But with the game on a knife edge heading towards full-time, Dortmund started to pile the pressure on Chelsea.
Thankfully for Potter and Co, Chelsea’s defence stood tall and batted away Dortmund’s attacking onslaught.
But in one moment of the game, it looked like despite the win, Chelsea could also be losing a key player.

Kevin De Bruyne has earned the most Star Man awards this season but who are his closest rivals?

IT should go without saying that Dream Team assets who collect regular Star Man awards are worth their weight in gold.Coming out on top of the match ratings earns a player an additional five points, equivalent to a goal.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at which individuals have been named Star Man most often so far this season.
5 – Ruben Neves (£2.9m), Marcus Rashford (£6.5m), Mohamed Salah (£8.6m), Riyad Mahrez (£6.1m), Nick Pope (£4.7m), Martin Odegaard (£3.6m), Thiago Silva (£5.7m)
Neves has quietly collected five Star Man awardsCredit: GETTY
Seven players are level on five Star Man awards right now with Neves being the most surprising inclusion as the only one among them yet to breach the 100-point mark.
In fact, 35.3% of the Wolves midfielder’s 85-point total have come from Star Man bonuses.
Three of Rashford’s five Star Man gongs have come in the last eight Game Weeks, coinciding with his most prosperous form of the campaign.
Salah makes the cut having produced a 10/10 performance against Man United on Sunday.
The Egypt international banked 21 points at Manchester United’s expense and, more broadly, he’s amassed 60 points in his last six outings.
Mahrez registered three Star Man awards in as many Game Weeks from late January to mid-February.
    Most read in Football
Manchester City’s Algerian winger didn’t notch his first point until October but he’s made up for his slow start and is now the fifth-best asset in his position.
    A man in form
Newcastle’s clean sheets may have dried up recently but Pope remains in pole position for the Golden Glove.
The Magpies have conceded just 17 league goals in 2022/23, eight fewer than the next-best defence, and their first-choice goalkeeper has been key to their impressive campaign.
Pope’s third Star Man award came in Game Week 5 and for a while he topped the metric among all assets.
Odegaard claimed three Star Man gongs in three consecutive games separated by the World Cup break.
Arsenal’s captain has nine goals and six assists in the Premier League this term.
Lastly of this crop, it’s Chelsea’s crocked Brazilian centre-back.
The Brazilian defender actually produced a streak of four Star Man awards in a row between Game Weeks 4 and 8.
Silva has been a class act despite the Blues’ problems in the final third.
    6 – Bruno Fernandes (£6m), Erling Haaland (£9m)
    A laughing matter
The main reason Rashford isn’t higher in this list is that he’s had to share Star Man awards with his Portuguese team-mate since the restart.
Fernandes may not have plundered as many goals as the England international but his all-round performances have been instrumental to the Red Devils’ uplift under Erik ten Hag in recent weeks… the 7-0 defeat aside.
The 28-year-old briefly jumped ahead of a certain Belgian playmaker to take the crown of Dream Team’s best midfielder this season but he’s since dropped back down to second, though the gap is just four points.
Fernandes has earned 7+ match ratings 28 times in 2022/23, more than any other player.
Many Dream Team bosses would have expected Man City’s No9 to have claimed more than six Star Man awards given his mountainous points tally of 278.
However, it’s worth remembering that many of Haaland’s best performances have been characterised by ruthless efficiency – he rarely registers many touches.
The fact he is frequently quiet outside of one or two key moments in the penalty box has sometimes hindered him in the match ratings, where City’s all-action midfielders tend to do well.
Haaland’s last Star Man award came back in Game Week 19 – he’s due one.
    7 – Kieran Trippier (£6.3m)
Dream Team’s outright best defenderCredit: GETTY
We’ve written so much about Newcastle’s right-back this season but it’s going over the key points.
Trippier’s ginormous total of 190 points owes plenty to his Star Man tally, achieved through his dual purpose in Eddie Howe’s set-up.
Not only has the England international contributed to the aforementioned defensive record, he has also been a force to be reckoned with in terms of chance creation.
His crossing, both from open play and set-pieces, has been superb and, truth be told, his team-mates should have converted his service into more goals than they have in reality.
But WhoScored’s sophisticated system takes into account Trippier’s attacking output and so he has been duly rewarded.
    8 – Kevin De Bruyne (£7.6m)
    Who else?Credit: GETTY
No prizes for guessing who tops the pile, it’s the man who so frequently looks like the best player on the pitch.
When De Bruyne is on song he’s pretty much unplayable and therefore unbeatable in the match ratings.

Man City’s chief creator has provided 17 assists in all competitions and is leading every underlying metric related to playmaking imaginable.
After a relative lean patch between Game Weeks 16 and 21, De Bruyne has responded with 31 points in five appearances since. More

Tierney is reportedly unhappy at the club and Newcastle have been made aware of the situation, claims the Evening Standard.
Arsenal are yet to decide whether they want to sell the Scot.
However, if they offloaded him they would want to receive more than the £25million they paid Celtic for him in 2019.
Leicester were also keen on Tierney, who has three years remaining on his deal, but they instead signed Victor Kristiansen from FC Copenhagen.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
Tierney has featured 26 times for Arsenal this season.
But only four of those appearances have been starts in the Premier League.
Former defender Mikael Silvestre has claimed the 25-year-old faces an “impossible task” when it comes to regaining his place in the team.
However, Tierney is expected to play in the Europa League with Arsenal up against Sporting Lisbon in the Round of 16 on Thursday.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, Butt won six Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the Champions League, being part of the treble-winning team in 1998/99.
He admits to not being the most talented in the squad but it was his passion that allowed him to play amongst the best.
Butt told the Daily Mail: “I always knew I wasn’t as good as Scholesy and Giggsy and Becks.
“But I knew they couldn’t outrun me or outfight me. I was driven by that.”

But he departed in March 2021, admitting he was left unhappy at the direction United were going in.

Butt now works as Salford’s CEO and he opened up on his surprise career move.
He said: “You don’t go through seven years of coaching badges to toss it off and not do it again.
“But I got to a fork in the road and I went the other way. I wasn’t happy at United so I left. I had a bit of a chip on my shoulder if I am honest.
“I was sick of people upstairs telling me about football. If I was to tell people in the boardroom how to run a football club they would just look at me wouldn’t they?
“But they have the right to talk about developing players? So I was p***ed off about it.

“Eventually I left but before that I went and did a CEO course. I didn’t ever want to be one. I just wanted to be more in tune with a chief exec, to be more empathetic.

Chelsea ‘looking to poach Frenkie de Jong transfer from under Man Utd’s noses in £70m summer swoop from Barcelona’

CHELSEA are hoping to poach Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong from under Manchester United’s noses, according to reports. The Blues are planning to launch a bid worth £70million to prize him away from the Nou Camp.

De Jong, 25, wants to stay at Barca but could be forced out due to the club’s financial situation.
Reports suggest that club president Joan Laporta and manager Xavi see selling the midfielder as one of the ways to solve their off-field problems.
Barcelona may not be able to sign players this summer with LaLiga effectively putting a transfer ban on them until they can balance the books.
The league’s chief Javier Tebas has publicly called for the club to reduce their spending and suggested they may have to make cuts of £178million.

He said: “They have to reduce their investment in players and we have encouraged them to sell players because for every amount they raise in sales they can spend 40 per cent of that.”
Man Utd and Chelsea were both in the hunt for De Jong last summer.
The Red Devils saw multiple bids fail in landing him and he the player expressed his desire to fight for his place at the club.
United boss Erik ten Hag worked with De Jong at Ajax and he is again thought to be interested in going back in for him at the end of the season.

Man Utd in huge Qatari takeover boost with Fifa refusing to ban nation states from owning clubs

FIFA chiefs have NO intention of intervening to prevent nation states buying clubs.Prem clubs are demanding action from League chief executive Richard Masters about Newcastle’s Saudi overlords.

Court documents in the US revealed lawyers for Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and Newcastle chairman Yasir al-Rummayan claimed they were both part of the state’s government.
That appeared to fly in the face of the “legally binding assurances” about the control of the club given when the £300m takeover was approved in 2020.
But Sun Sport has been told by senior Fifa figures that there is no reason to expect any moves by world chiefs to intervene.
And in a boost to the Toon Saudis as well as the Qatari bid for Manchester United, Fifa President Gianni Infantino has made it clear he is entirely relaxed about the state ownership debate.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
A source close to the Fifa President said: “Gianni has the same view now that he had when he was at Uefa.
“He said then that he believed any investment in football is good, wherever it comes from, provided that it is good investment.
    “That position has not changed.
“He is the President of Fifa now and he believes what the game needs is investors, good people who want to put money into football, provided it is good.”

Infantino’s stance is no real surprise given his close links to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.
It is believed by many that the Fifa President is actively seeking to aid Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup, although Zurich insists Infantino is entirely neutral on that matter.
But the news may be a relief for the Newcastle leadership especially with Masters feeling plenty of heat from rival club bosses who are demanding some form of action before this month’s next meeting of the Prem’s 20 “shareholders”. More

Man Utd takeover enters next stage with interested parties to meet Old Trafford chiefs TOMORROW

MANCHESTER UNITED’S takeover talks are set to ramp up further as club chiefs prepare to meet potential new owners on THURSDAY.The Glazer family, who took full control at Old Trafford in 2005, revealed in November they were open to selling or handing off a stake in the club.

Since then, Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe have both submitted their interest in purchasing the footballing institution.
According to The Mail, those that have made it through to the second stage of the process are now due to meet Man Utd bosses on Thursday.
It comes as merchant bankers Raine Group – put in charge of finding a buyer or investors – step up talks with potential bidders.
Following last month’s deadline for parties to declare their formal interest, Raine Group whittled down the possible options.

And a “period of due diligence” is already underway, with interested parties beginning that process last Monday.
Bidders are able to request financial information before travelling to Old Trafford for more in-depth discussions.
Neither Sheikh Jassim or Ratcliffe are expected to be at the talks, but representatives for both are set to attend.
Following the next stage, Raine Group will then select a specific party who will be allowed to see Man Utd’s financials in extensive detail.

They will then be asked to submit a final offer – with the Glazers eyeing a price in the region of £6billion.
Along with the two public offers from Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe, at least two other bidders are thought to be interested.
There is also potential for the Glazers to remain involved in the club in some capacity.
And it is still possible they could decide not to sell at all, although investment for a £2bn renovation of Old Trafford is something that will likely require financing.
The Qatari bid want a deal to be completed by the summer transfer window in order to hand Erik ten Hag substantial funds.
And there is hope a change in ownership could happen as soon as the end of March, but the process would have to speed up if it was to be completed in the next few weeks. More
