The Red Devils’ only other options are Marcus Rashford, who has been in superb form this season, and the injury-prone Anthony Martial.
The Old Trafford club will likely spend a large fee on bringing a striker in this summer.
The two big names being linked are Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen but Scholes think’s Maritnez would be a good choice.
Scholes spoke to BT Sport on Thursday night following United’s 1-0 over Real Betis.

He said: “I like Lautaro Martinez at Inter Milan.
“I think he is a Ten Hag type of player, he likes a centre forward that will run about, be aggressive, get against people.
“I like United’s current options, I like Rashford, I like Martial, but Martial just can’t stay fit. So there are options out there.”
The former midfielder also spoke about Harry Maguire’s situation at the club.

He said: “Harry’s in a difficult position not playing games but I think his attitude there with the interview saying ‘it doesn’t matter if I’m playing or not, it’s my job to make sure I can make the club as successful as they can be.
“I think that guarantees him in the England situation as well. It’s a good thing.
“It’s good for Man Utd as well that he will go away and get a couple of games that will only bode well for Manchester United.”

Five clubs Danny Rose could join after training with National League club ahead of return to football

Free agent Danny Rose is currently training with non-league York CityCredit: Getty
He did punditry for Sky Sports last week on old club Tottenham as they crashed out of the Champions League against AC Milan.
Rose racked up 214 appearances for Spurs during 13 seasons at the club.
In that time he had loan spells at Sunderland, Newcastle, Bristol City, Peterborough and Watford.
He also earned 29 caps for his country and played five times at the 2018 World Cup.

The left-back signed for the Hornets on a free transfer two summers ago but made just nine appearances as the Hertfordshire side.
They were relegated to the Championship last season and now he is unemployed and free to join any club interested.
    Here are five possible destinations:

    YORK CITY
We revealed that Rose, who is from Doncaster, Yorkshire, has been training with the National League side with a view to building up his fitness at this stage.

They are currently managed by interim boss Michael Morton, who joined the club in December as assistant manager, having previously spent time as Youth Development Phase Lead coach at Leeds.
He joined the Whites in 2005 while Rose was coming through at the club and is now tasked with pulling the Minsterman up the table, where they are currently 18th.
And the introduction of an ex-Premier League defender could be just the tonic he needs.
    SUNDERLAND
Rose already has experience of playing for the Black Cats, who are pushing to try and reach the Championship play-offs.
Boss Tony Mowbray could view the addition of the left-back as worthwhile for the run-in – and it is not too far away from his Doncaster home.
    DONCASTER ROVERS
Which brings us to his hometown club.
Rose will undoubtedly have higher aspirations than League Two, but he has previously revealed how he has missed living in the north to Sun Sport.
But if Rovers could persuade him, then he could get a short-term fix at his local side.
    INTER MIAMI
David Beckham’s side love and ex-Prem ace or two and would provide an attractive proposition for Rose if they were keen.
But the standard of the MLS could be a factor, along with the fact that it is thousands of miles away from his Donny home.

The Greek club were linked with a swoop for Rose back in September.

‘The player is ours!’ – Jose Enrique leaks Liverpool’s first summer transfer with Bayern star on brink of shock move

Thiago Alcantara and Arthur Melo have missed plenty of time with injuries, while Stefan Bajcetic has now been ruled out for the season.
Liverpool have been linked with a stunning swoop for England star Jude Bellingham.
But according to Enrique, they’ve already sealed a move for another midfield wonderkid.
Appearing on a live stream, the Spaniard was asked about Bayern Munich youngster Ryan Gravenberch.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
He said: “This player is ours, amigo… He said ‘yeah’.”
Enrique, 37, then elaborated: “It’s the same agent as me, team Raiola.
“We had a meeting not long ago in London, this is our player.”
His co-host then interrupted him, warning: “Be careful, you’re on live!”

Gravenberch burst on to the scene with Ajax before making the switch to Bayern last summer for a fee rising to around £20million.
He has struggled to make an impression at Allianz Arena, however, starting just ONE Bundesliga match this season.
Despite his lack of action, Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann backed Gravenberch to become one of the world’s best midfielders.
He told Sky Germany in October: “I had a good conversation with Ryan this week.
I’ve told him that he is going to be one of the best midfielders in the world one dayJulian Nagelsmann
“I’ve told him again clearly what the difference is from his role last year, when he always played from the start.
“It’s not quite so easy for a young player to come in at 20 and only come on for 20 minutes. It’s just a whole different approach.
“He is of course sad that he doesn’t play much, but not frustrated or angry at all. He’s a great guy, who will continue his development.
“I’ve told him that he is going to be one of the best midfielders in the world one day, and I’m committed to that.
“He just has to adjust a few things, and he will do that.”

The winger, who boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed will be sidelined long-term with an ankle injury, has also had things to sort regarding his international future.
Garnacho was born in Madrid and has represented Spain at youth level but qualifies for Lionel Scaloni’s World Cup winners due to his mother being born in Argentina.
He initially received a call-up to the South American country’s senior squad for two World Cup qualifiers a year ago but did not make an appearance in either game.
After scoring four goals in four caps for their U20s to help them win the 2022 Maurice Revello Tournament he then missed out on the squad for Qatar in November.

That allegedly led to Spain getting back in touch with him to try and persuade him to switch his allegiance – but Garnacho allegedly politely declined.
He was then included in the Argentina squad for their upcoming friendlies with Panama and Curacao only for the blow he suffered against Southampton on Sunday to rule him out.
Bernardo Romeo, coordinator of Argentina’s youth teams, was the one to reveal to publication Ole that the United ace “had been called by the coordinator of Spain’s teams”.
He said: “Alejandro Garnacho was very clear, he told me that he answered him out of respect, but he has decided to play for Argentina.”

Romero added that the attacker “is very convinced of playing for the Argentine National Team. You enter the house and he has all the photos with Messi.”
Garnacho, who moved to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in October 2020, said after he pulled out of the latest Argentina squad: “It is difficult to put into words how I feel at this moment.
“I am disappointed to miss the opportunity to be with my teammates from the Argentine national team, in what would have been a great moment of pride for me and my family.” More

Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani, a member of the Gulf state’s ruling royal family, has tabled a bid believed to be under the Glazers’ £6billion asking price.
Al Thani’s bid is reportedly worth £5bn but he is promising to wipe the club’s debt and fund upgrades for both Old Trafford and Carrington.

But one of Britain’s richest men, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and his Ineos group also made a bid.
Locally-born United supporter Ratcliffe, 70, has pitched that he will put “Manchester back into Manchester United” with a “British bid to make the club a beacon for a modern, progressive, fan-centred approach to ownership”.

And today it was his turn to head to Old Trafford to take a look at what he could be buying.
Andy Currie and John Reece, the co-owners of Ineos with Jim, were in attendance at the Theatre of Dreams as was Rob Nevin, chair of Ineos Sport and long-time right hand man to the billionaire.
And they were also joined by Jean Claude Blanc, CEO of Ineos Sport, and Sir Dave Brailsford, Director of Sport at Ineos Sport.
Ratcliffe – who owns Ligue 1 side Nice – was snapped arriving at Old Trafford and being greeted by chief executive Richard Arnold.

Just like the officials representing the Middle East, the group are believed to be meeting staff members of various departments, including football, financial and commercial as well as receiving a tour of the Theatre of Dreams and the Carrington training ground.
Both the stadium and training HQ are in need of a revamp, and the trip will have allowed them to assess how much would be needed for a makeover.
The Daily Mail are now reporting that second bids now need to be in by midweek, with Wednesday the likely deadline, in a “tightening of process” with any final bids set to have an Easter deadline.
Second offers will be invited to be made to the US bank Raine Group, who are handling the sale on behalf of the Glazers.
They will then consult with American owners before determining who their preferred bidder is and then giving them full access to United’s accounts and then further negotiations could take place.
Two other bidders that are believed to be from the USA are also allegedly in the frame and will be doing the same.
Ratcliffe is a petrochemicals tycoon who at his peak was worth around £21BILLION.
He runs multi-billion-pound chemicals giant Ineos, which owns French club Nice, Swiss side Lausanne, plus a third of Formula One team Mercedes.

SunSport pictures showed the visitors at the stadium and protected by club-branded umbrellas before getting into black Mercedes people carriers to make the trip to Carrington.
And there they sat down for TEN HOURS of positive talks on Thursday to discuss the possible takeover.
That included discussions with various departments including financial executives and recruitment staff across both the football and business sides of the club.
However, neither the Glazers nor Sheikh Jassim were present, while Erik ten Hag was in Spain as United beat Real Betis to reach the Europa League quarter-finals.

The Daily Mail state Sheikh Jassim has now reportedly been given until the middle of next week – likely Wednesday – to make a second bid with final offers needed to be in by Easter.
And The Times report he is expected to improve the initial £5billion offer submitted in February.
Current owners the Glazers remain defiant in their £6bn asking price for United.
Sheikh Jassim, a member of the Qatari royal family, sent his delegation to meet the Glazers’ deal brokers, the Raine Group.

Shahzad Shahbaz, president of the Nine Two Foundation set up as the vehicle for the proposed takeover, attended with his legal, corporate and investment adviser, Fady Bakhos.
Both men are expected to be senior figures at the club if the Qatari bid is successful.
Today there will be a similar tour for Sir Jim Ratcliffe, one of Britain’s richest men, who heads up the Ineos delegation which includes ex-British Cycling chief Sir Dave Brailsford.
The Ineos team arrived at Old Trafford this morning.

Ratcliffe wants to buy out the Glazers’ majority stake – 69 per cent – while the Qataris want full control.
Two further unnamed groups are reportedly in contention to buy United while there have been various investment offers, including from Elliott Management.
It is still unclear if the Raine Group will progress into the next phase of the process with one exclusive bid or multiple offers.

Having been team-mates during Olmo’s time at the Bernabeu, Bale and CR7 probably have their own ideas about who keeps in better shape but the Portuguese doc was in no doubt.
The ex-Los Blancos doctor previously told Ideal in 2020: “Perhaps the best athlete I’ve ever seen is Bale.

The medical expert also said Real Madrid fans did not see the best of the Welsh wizard during his time in Spain, because he was suffering from several injuries.
Bale, 33, hung up his boots in January following a disappointing World Cup with Wales.
After Ronaldo leapt 8ft 5ins into the air to score a header against Sampdoria in 2019 he revealed his fitness secrets that keep him going and claimed he could play on until he was 41.
His mum Dolores also backed up his claim last year.
The Madeira-based mum-of-four told presenter and comedian Guilherme Geirinhas: “I’ve already asked him if he wants to be a coach when he stops playing.
“He told me he wants to enjoy life. He’ll play until he’s 40.” More
