According to The Mirror, the league leaders pay their players just shy of £98million each year.

The annual wage bill for each Premier League club
That is a world away from the biggest budget in the Premier League – which is held by Chelsea at £212m.
Todd Boehly’s £600m spending spree over the last nine months has seen them edge ahead of Man Utd in the wage bill standings – with the Red Devils shelling out £211m.
They are followed by Man City at £182m, Liverpool at £158m and Tottenham at £110m.
Then come Arsenal – the first side limiting their wage bill to under the £100m mark.

The biggest budgets outside of the top six come from Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham and Newcastle – all between £76m and £90m.
They are followed by Leicester, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Wolves and Southampton.
Among the most threadbare wage bills are Leeds, Bournemouth and seventh-place Brighton – who spend just £35m per year on their players’ salaries.
But the smallest annual wage bill is Brentford’s.
Thomas Frank’s entire squad earns just over £30m per year – but are punching well above their financial weight as they sit eighth in the Premier League table. More

Jones, a former stalwart in the United team, has been dogged by physical issues in recent seasons.
In fact, he has only been able to play 21 games in the last four years.
The Red Devils surprisingly handed him a new four-and-a-half year deal in February 2019 – believed to be worth 110,000-a-week.
With the contract finally set to expire at the end of this season, the Express claim that Jones has cost United £28.5m since 2018.

Jones, 31, initially joined United from Blackburn in a £16m deal back in 2011.
He’s claimed to have been earning £59k a week during his first four years at the Theatre of Dreams, before penning a new £74k deal in 2015 and moving up to £110k three years later.
Jones showed plenty of promise in his early Old Trafford years, helping them to Premier League glory in 2013 and being labelled a future England captain by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Frequent injuries began to hamper his progress, however, with Jones having reached more than 20 Prem appearances in a season just once since the 2014-15 campaign.

In total he has played 229 times for United, although he hasn’t featured at all this season.
He made five appearances under Ralf Rangnick last term, having missed the entire 2020-21 campaign.
Jones recently spoke to Sky Sports while attending Man United’s Carabao Cup Wembley triumph over Newcastle United.
He said: “It’s been a long road, there’s no hiding from that – at times physically and mentally.
“I’m a strong character and I love playing football. I’m doing everything I can to get back on the pitch.
“When you’ve had all the issues and injury wise, it’s hard to deal with that.
“The club have been absolutely fantastic with me. I think I’ve had good support around me from family and friends.
“I’m grateful for that and I want to be back outside.”

Antonio Conte reveals both he and Harry Kane could STAY at Tottenham.. but they’ll need Champions League football

ANTONIO CONTE has hinted that Tottenham qualifying for the Champions League could have big ramifications on the future of Harry Kane and even his own.Spurs go to Southampton today sitting in fourth, ahead of a chasing pack that includes the likes of Newcastle, Liverpool and Brighton.

Conte, 53, is widely expected to leave when his contract expires in the summer.
What happens to key man Kane — whose deal is up at the end of next season — is a subject on the lips of every Tottenham supporter.
Yet when it was put to Conte what kind of effect having such uncertainty over the manager and star player is having on the club, the Italian responded in a way that suggested there is a scenario where BOTH could stay.
He said: “To finish in the top four could be very important for everybody, first of all for the club and for the players, the manager and the fans.

“For sure if you finish in the top four many, many situations are more simple because you know that we are going to play Champions League.

But surely every fan will be praying that the club’s all-time 270-goal record scorer Kane can be convinced to sign a new deal.
Even if he does not, SunSport understands it is unlikely chairman Daniel Levy would sell to another English club this summer.
It means the most probable outcome, should Kane refuse to pen fresh terms, is he leaves on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.
Conte says it is on the club and the player to resolve the situation, rather than him.
But he does see Kane, who turns 30 in July, as being able to emulate the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski in playing at the highest level well into his fourth decade.
The ex-Chelsea boss added: “We are talking about a player that is showing every day to be a really, really good professional.
“I see for him, for the rest of his career, a brilliant future because he takes care of himself — not only on the pitch but off the pitch.
“This is the key. When you overcome 30 years old, if you take care of yourself then you continue to stay at the top. Cristiano Ronaldo is a really good example. We have a lot of important players that continued to have big, big careers for the rest of the time that they played.”
On whether he had any frustration that Kane’s contract situation remains unresolved, Spurs boss Conte replied: “You know very well that in this type of situation it is difficult for the coach to force the situation on the other side.

“The player and the club will try to find the right situation.
“For sure, I can tell you that every coach wants Harry Kane in his team. But then there are a lot of different situations that you have to see to find a situation. It is on the player and the club, not on me.” More

But the 31-year-old dropped down the pecking order in the new era at St James’ Park and left to join Forest in January.
He welcomed his former club to the City Ground last night but Alexander Isak secured a brace and the three points for the Magpies as his last-ditch penalty earned a 2-1 victory.
Newcastle also had a goal controversially disallowed when Sean Longstaff was deemed to be offside in the build-up of Elliot Anderson’s headed effort.
However, the ball was played by two Forest defenders BEFORE hitting Longstaff.

The Toon faithful were understandably furious, with even the rulebook backing up their side, with legend Alan Shearer even telling VAR to “f*** off”.
But after the game Shelvey took aim at his old team and told Sky Sports: “I didn’t think [Newcastle] would whinge as much as they did on the pitch. But it is a game of football.
“I represent this football club now. I will give it my all. But yeah, a lot of whingebags in their team.”
Although he did add: “I will tell them that, only in a jokey way. I hope they get into Europe and have just positive words about the club.”

Shelvey made 202 Toon appearances, chipping in with 18 goals, but took to the field just three times in the Premier League this season.
His contract was due to expire in the north-east this summer.
Ironically, though, Shelvey was just two starts away from triggering a contract extension with the Magpies.
The six-cap England international last played for them in the Carabao Cup win over Bournemouth on December 20.

NEWCASTLE legend Alan Shearer has told VAR where it should go, in not-so-nice terms. The Magpies saw a goal disallowed in their 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest when Sean Longstaff was deemed to be offside in the build-up of Elliot Anderson’s headed effort.

However, the ball was played by two Forest defenders BEFORE hitting Longstaff.
The Toon faithful were understandably furious, with even the rulebook backing up their side.
Shearer joined in with the chorus of anger online, saying on his Twitter page: “Oh f… off VAR.”
The Premier League all-time top goalscorer later added: “I’ve sat in the stand as a fan. I’ve sat in the studio as a pundit.

“I’ve watched in the pub tonight with my mates and you’re getting it all wrong VAR. It’s not what you told us.”
The X-rated rant comes just days after he blasted the handball law when Manchester City were awarded a penalty in the Champions League.
It came as RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Henrichs saw the ball strike his arm from close range after Rodri’s downward header in mid-air.
Shearer was up in arms online with the decision, writing: “What a pile of s*** the handball law is. #pathetic.”

Despite the introduction of VAR, refereeing continues to suffer from a lack of efficacy.
Former Prem whistler Mark Halsey has also voiced his displeasure with the current use of VAR and the offside law.
He told SunSport: “The offside law is an ass.
“It’s a nonsense decision (Longstaff offside). Surely it’s a deliberate play by Forest defender Felipe?
“But goals being ruled out for something like this does not sit right with me.” More

But a couple of his coaching methods have caught the eye, namely playing Anfield noise through speakers during a training session ahead of their trip to Liverpool.
Most recently, Arsenal’s players were pictured holding a replica of the iconic clock from the Clock End in the changing room following their 3-0 win over Fulham last weekend.
And Souness has ripped apart both of Arteta’s ideas.
Speaking in his column for The Mail, he said: “I read the story about Arsenal taking their home comforts into opposition dressing rooms and had to read it again to make sure it wasn’t a joke.

“Last season he had You’ll Never Walk Alone played over the loudspeakers at training to prepare his players for a game at Anfield. They lost 4-0, so that went well for them.
“When I walked into an opposing dressing room I didn’t want to feel comfortable. I didn’t want to feel like I was in my living room at home. I was at work. I was on enemy territory and I wanted to feel fired up.
“If I had arrived at an away ground to find a clock from Anfield waiting for me on the wall, I would have burst out laughing. And I would not have been alone.”
Arsenal crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday evening as Sporting Lisbon beat them on penalties in the last-16.
But they are still in the box seat to win the Premier League title and can extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points with a win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
