Declan Rice has made 229 appearances for West Ham after rising through the ranks at their academy
The Blues have had a longstanding admiration for Rice, but Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg took to Twitter to seemingly confirm their concrete interest.
He said: “Chelsea is definitely in the race and highly interested – confirmed! He’s one of the top candidates in order to strengthen the defensive midfield.”
Graham Potter’s side already splashed out a whopping £107million on Enzo Fernandez in January to sure up their midfield.

The 24-year-old has been ever-present in David Moyes’ Premier League side this season managing two goals and two assists.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with attracting the England star to the Emirates Stadium despite their public interest in Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.
The league leaders are looking to improve on their squad depth as they gear up for a likely return to the Champions League for the first time in six years.
Mikel Arteta has already strengthened his midfield with the January addition of European Championship winner Jorginho.

Rice has long been touted for a move to a ‘big six’ club, but will be focused on keeping West Ham in the league until the summer.
The East London side are in a relegation scrap and currently find themselves in 17th place just two points off rock bottom.
They face bottom of the table Southampton in their next game at the London Stadium. More

Man Utd star Alex Telles not wanted by Sevilla on permanent transfer after full-back’s loan spell

SEVILLA allegedly do not want to sign Alex Telles permanently from Manchester United this summer. The 30-year-old Brazilian international left-back joined the Red Devils from Porto for £15.8million in 2020.

But Telles was deemed surplus to requirements at United by Erik ten Hag.
He made just 26 appearances last season, netting once in the Champions League and providing four assists in the Premier League.
That led to him joining Sevilla on a season-long loan back at the beginning of the campaign
That agreement between the two clubs, who have just been drawn together in the Europa League quarter finals, did not include an option to buy.

However, the Daily Mirror is now claiming that they have no intentions to try and keep him.
Discussing his future recently, Telles said: “I don’t think about the future because that depends on what I do now. Now I have to play and train.
“I’ve always said that I’m happy at Sevilla, I’m treated very well and now I have to play and do my best, which is the most important thing.”
Tyrell Malacia, 23, arrived at Old Trafford at the start of the season to add further competition at left-back.

It seems highly-unlikely that Telles will be given an opportunity to impress back at United, which means he looks set to have to find himself a new club.
He has featured 26 times so far this term for Sevilla.
But despite their progress in Europe, they have struggled domestically, sitting a lowly 13th in LaLiga. More

Roy Hodgson ready to make shock return to Crystal Palace to replace Patrick Vieira as boss

ROY HODGSON is ready to make a shock return to Crystal Palace to replace axed Patrick Vieira. The veteran former Eagles boss, who was replaced by Vieira at Selhurst Park in 2021 after four years in charge, is willing to return until the end of the season to keep Palace in the Prem.

Eagles chairman Steve Parish made the call to sack Vieira in a 7am call on Friday morning, with the club three points above the relegation zone and without a win in 2023.
Hodgson, 75, came to the rescue when he was first appointed in South London following Frank de Boer’s disastrous 77-day spell as Eagles boss and fought off relegation on a shoe-string budget across his four years.
The former England manager had insisted that last year’s brief stint at Watford, which ended in relegation from the Premier League, would be his last gig as a manager.
But talks with Palace chiefs this weekend have progressed well and he is ready to step back in once again.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Under-21s manager Paddy McCarthy, a former Palace captain, will take charge of the side at Arsenal on Sunday and is highly regarded at the club.
The 39-year-old has turned down a number of job opportunities in the last 18 months on the promise of progress at Palace and could well be part of Hodgson’s first-team staff should the ex-Liverpool manager make a comeback.
A move to appoint Hodgson once again, even only until the end of the season, would be a huge departure from Parish’s plan to move forward as a club under a more progressive manager following four years of a pragmatic approach.
Vieira made a flying start to life as a Premier League boss, introducing a more free-flowing style and leading them to an FA Cup semi-final last season.

However, he looks set to miss the rest of the season after boss Erik ten Hag confirmed that the winger will be sidelined long-term with an ankle injury he sustained last week.
The unfortunate ace is still coming to terms with the blow, but he was seen out and about on Friday afternoon in Hale Village.
Garnacho was pictured leaving Cibo Restaurant on crutches after a late family lunch.
Meanwhile, it comes in the same week that the livewire made a huge decision regarding his international future.
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
Garnacho was born in Madrid and has represented Spain at youth level but qualifies for Lionel Scaloni’s World Cup winners due to his mother being born in Argentina.
He initially received a call-up to the South American country’s senior squad for two World Cup qualifiers a year ago but did not make an appearance in either game.
After scoring four goals in four caps for their U20s to help them win the 2022 Maurice Revello Tournament he then missed out on the squad for Qatar in November.
That allegedly led to Spain getting back in touch with him to try and persuade him to switch his allegiance – but Garnacho allegedly politely declined.

He was then included in the Argentina squad for their upcoming friendlies with Panama and Curacao only for the blow he suffered against Southampton on Sunday to rule him out.
Bernardo Romeo, coordinator of Argentina’s youth teams, was the one to reveal to publication Ole that the United ace “had been called by the coordinator of Spain’s teams”.
He said: “Alejandro Garnacho was very clear, he told me that he answered him out of respect, but he has decided to play for Argentina.”
Romero added that the attacker “is very convinced of playing for the Argentine National Team. You enter the house and he has all the photos with Messi.”
Garnacho, who moved to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in October 2020, said after he pulled out of the latest Argentina squad: “It is difficult to put into words how I feel at this moment.
“I am disappointed to miss the opportunity to be with my teammates from the Argentine national team, in what would have been a great moment of pride for me and my family.” More

Fans realise why Newcastle star Kieran Trippier pretended to take penalty before Alexander Isak scored against Forest

Magpies captain Trippier initially grabbed the ball as if he would be the taker.
Furious Forest stars tried to put the right-back off – his old Tottenham team-mate Serge Aurier delaying the kick by standing by the spot and Keylor Navas being booked.
Trippier appeared unfazed by it all, grinning knowingly.
And at the last moment the former Spurs man revealed why – handing the ball to ice cool team-mate Alexander Isak.

The Swede calmly slotted home from 12 yards, sealing an important three points for Eddie Howe’s men.
Isak had already scored in the match, cancelling out Emmanuel Dennis’ chip with a shinned volley.
Newcastle fans loved their team’s psychological tactic, with one writing: “Last week the pretend to time waste corner was amazing.
“This week, Trippier pretending to be taking the penalty is SO clever. Like properly clever as a way to take the pressure away from Isak.

    “Excellent coaching. Elite.”
A second tweeted: “If that was intentional it was absolutely immense. Trippier just stands there taking all of the pathetic gamesmanship. Superb.”
To which a third replied: “I think it was. You could see Trippier’s grin as it went on. He was trying not to laugh and give it away.”
Another added: “They had me fooled haha. To the point where I actually tweeted saying that I don’t like Trips on penalties!”
A further user posted: “Add ‘Kieran Trippier pretending to be about to take the penalty, before handing it to Isak last second’ to the list of classic #NUFC s***house moments this season, by the way.”
Newcastle’s 2-1 win took them to within one point of fourth placed Tottenham going into Saturday’s fixtures – while still possessing a game in hand on the North Londoners.
