Martinez confessed it would be “easy” to move to one of Europe’s top clubs who regularly compete at that level.
And when manager Unai Emery criticised him for contesting a late corner which Arsenal scored from, it seemed Villa would struggle to hold on to their No1.
However, the 30-year-old kept his 33rd clean sheet in 99 Villa appearances to surpass Mark Bosnich and Brad Friedel’s record of 32 in 100 appearances against Bournemouth at the weekend.
Afterwards he spoke of his pride at setting the new standard and confessed: “It’s a great feeling.

Martinez joined Villa from Arsenal in 2020 for a bargain £17million and revealed he has never felt more at home.

It’s been a truly remarkable season for Victor Osimhen – and clubs around Europe are taking noticeCredit: Rex
Premier League clubs have been keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old as he continues to lead Napoli to the Serie A title with his outstanding performances.
Chelsea are believed to be among those in the hunt and could offer out one of their own players to get the Nigerian.
Calciomercato report that the Blues’ hierarchy could use Christian Pulisic to try and get the deal over the line.
The American, 24, has struggled to reach his best form consistently since arriving at Stamford Bridge and could be used as a counterweight in any deal.

Even with the midfielder involved, Napoli would likely still command a huge fee.
That might not be a problem for the London club who have not been shy about splashing the cash this season.
Chelsea shelled out £323million in the January window, which is more than teams in Serie A, LaLiga, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 combined.
And owner Todd Boehly is believed to be willing to spend big again and is already looking forward to next season.

SunSport exclusively revealed that Spurs stars were left stunned by the comments, with several wanting Conte axed now.
The 53-year-old slammed the players — and also attacked Tottenham owners — in an extraordinary outburst on Saturday, calling the situation “unacceptable”.

Here SunSport takes a look at five potential replacements for the Italian.

    Mauricio Pochettino
Mauricio Pochettino is the current bookies favourite to land the job.
The Argentinian gaffer led Spurs to the Champions League final in 2019 but was sacked just six months later.
Poch, 55, has been out of work since being leaving Paris Saint-Germain last July.
And ex-Arsenal man Paul Merson has urged Spurs to sack Conte and replace the Italian with former gaffer Pochettino.

    Marco Silva
SunSport exclusively revealed last week that Fulham boss Marco Silva is emerging as a top contender for the Spurs job.
The 45-year-old led Fulham to promotion from the Championship last season and now has the Cottagers challenging for a European place.
Silva has previously managed in the Prem at Hull, Watford and Everton, with Spurs now understood to be interested in his services.

    Luis Enrique
Spaniard Luis Enrique has been out of work since stepping down as Spain gaffer after a disappointing World Cup campaign in Qatar.
The Spaniard quit following the Round of 16 penalty shootout defeat to Morocco.
But the 52-year-old did win two La Liga titles as manager of Barcelona, as well as the Champions League in 2015.
And reports suggest Enrique is open to becoming Spurs boss.

    Thomas Tuchel
German gaffer Thomas Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea last September.
Spurs have a track record of hiring former Blues bosses in Jose Mourinho and Conte, although that is yet to work out for them successfully.
However, SunSport exclusively revealed earlier this month that Tuchel would need to be convinced that the Tottenham job is right for him.
The 49-year-old led the Blues to Champions League glory in 2021.
    Zinedine Zidane
Football icon Zinedine Zidane has been linked with both the Manchester United and Chelsea jobs in the past.
However, the former Real Madrid gaffer reportedly snubbed the chance to manage United because of the language barrier.

But the 50-year-old could now be a candidate for the Spurs hot seat.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who claim the Hammers brass are “clearly under a spell” cast by Still – despite him not having a pro license.

Erling Haaland odds-on to become second player ever to register 400 Dream Team points in a single season

IT turns out Erling Haaland was just toying with Dream Team gaffers.Between Game Weeks 20 and 26, the Norwegian poacher trundled along at a relatively modest rate while Marcus Rashford (£6.7m) closed the gap at the top of the rankings.
At one point, it looked as if it was only a matter of time before Manchester United’s homegrown hero would ascend to the throne.
However, Manchester City’s No9 has responded with a frankly ridiculous 66 points across the last two Game Weeks to reassert his dominance.
    A centre-back’s worst nightmare
This explosive burst started with a clutch penalty at Selhurst Park but he truly burst into life with FIVE goals past RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
Haaland was withdrawn just after the hour mark on Tuesday night having plundered 38 points at the expense of the Bundesliga club.
He then registered his sixth (yes, SIXTH) hat-trick of the season at home to Burnley on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s side booked their place in the FA Cup semi-finals with a comfortable 6-0 victory over the Championship leaders.
The Norwegian poacher’s treble against the Clarets, again produced in just over an hour, resulted in a 23-point influx.
Suddenly, Haaland is 88 points clear of Rashford at the top of Dream Team’s rankings and the contest for individual supremacy once again looks to be a procession.
    A proper No9Credit: GETTY
Having moved onto 344 points overall, he’s now odds-on to breach the 400-mark before the campaign’s end, something achieved only once before in Dream Team history.

Cristiano Ronaldo became a quadruple centurion in 2007/08, the season that resulted in the first of his five Ballons d’Or, and while the likes of Mohamed Salah (£8.7m) and Harry Kane (£7.8m) have come close since, the Portuguese’s record tally has never truly been threatened.
With 42 goals in all competitions so far this term, Haaland has to be considered a phenomenon regardless but how close will he get to Ronaldo’s all-time record of 477 points?
    A memorable seasonCredit: GETTY
He’s 133 adrift of that humongous tally at this stage meaning he needs to average approximately 10.2 points every Game Week from now until the end of the season.
To put that into perspective, he averages 9.6 points-per-game so far this term.
With Man City likely to make the FA Cup final and intent on Champions League glory, Haaland will have more fixtures at his disposal than most.
Whatever happens, the prolific 22-year-old’s debut Dream Team campaign will be remembered as one of the most spectacular introductions in the history of the game. More
