Major change to Man City’s Etihad stadium and it’s all to overtake rivals Man Utd in bold new redevelopment plans

But Pep Guardiola’s side are ready to overhaul the second tier of their north stand to add an extra 7,700 places.
That would take the Etihad up to a grand total of 61,000.
And it would see City close the gap on Man United’s 74,000 capacity at Old Trafford.
The Mail says City are now looking to gain planning permission after holding consultation talks with fans and local residents.

If successful, work will start as soon as November.
And City hope to have their stadium expansion completed for the start of the 2025/26 campaign.
It would see the Etihad reach the same size as Tottenham, Arsenal and West Ham’s stadiums.
And it will also match the 61,000 mark set to be hit by Liverpool’s redevelopment of Anfield.

City have hired architectural firm Populous for the job following their work at Tottenham’s new arena.
But City are also plotting to boost the land around their stadium with a new hotel, megastore, museum and fan park.
It’s all expected to be finished around a year after the stadium redevelopment.
And it will take City’s spending on their infrastructure to £1billion.
The club say “the construction period would be carefully planned around the football season to minimise the potential for disruption.”
City reckon that 2,600 jobs will be created, with locals getting priority.
Fans are also hoping for the addition of new bars and restaurants, as well as improved Metrolink transport. More

Man Utd facing Evan Ferguson transfer blow as Brighton line up new mega contract for 18-year-old wonderkid

BRIGHTON are lining up a new deal for teenage star Evan Ferguson. The striker, 18, has enjoyed a sensational breakthrough season.

Despite only agreeing a professional contract in October, the Seagulls are now preparing fresh terms to ward off any interest.
Ferguson’s form since making the step up to the first team has caught the eye of the Premier League’s big clubs.
Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea all tried to nab Ferguson ahead of Brighton when he made the move over from Bohemians in Ireland two years ago.
And their interest has not gone away thanks to his seven goals and three assists in 16 senior appearances this season.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
Tottenham have also been linked with a move for the Republic of Ireland international, who scored on his first start for Stephen Kelly’s side against Latvia last week.
Despite the interest, Ferguson is keen to continue his growth at The Amex following a flying start under Italian boss Roberto De Zerbi, who has been full of praise for the young striker.

Earlier this month, De Zerbi said: “He is unique for us in terms of quality, in terms of characteristic.
“He knows very well the way to score. I think he can and he has to improve, in the quality of play, in ball possession, to keep the ball better.

“But he is 18 and he will improve for sure, because I know the guy, I know his passion, his attitude. I have no doubt.”
Ferguson would be the latest in a host of Brighton stars to commit to new deals this season.
Moises Caicedo, Solly March, Alexis Mac Allister and Adam Lallana have all agreed contract extensions since De Zerbi’s arrival last year.
And Japan international Kaoru Mitoma could soon be due one as well. More

3 players who could run amok in Game Week 28 – a dozen teams set to pull double duty!

THE calendar has conspired to frustrate to Dream Team managers desperate for fresh transfers.Transfers are replenished on the first Friday of the month which means April’s batch won’t be available until Game Week 29.
However, some clever gaffers will have planned for this very moment and may have kept some of March’s allotment back so they can makes changes suited to Game Week 28.
With a dozen teams set to play twice this coming week, we’ve identified three players who could run amok (in a good way).
    James Maddison (£5.6m)
    A Dream Team gemCredit: GETTY
Fresh off what felt like his second England debut, the 26-year-old travels to a Crystal Palace side without a win since November on Saturday before welcoming Aston Villa to the King Power in midweek.
Leicester’s No10 averages 4.3 points-per-game this season, only four midfielders boast a better average at this stage (minimum three appearances).
This suggests that even an average week would mean a return of eight or nine points but given the relative favourability of his match-ups in the form of two bottom-half clubs, a double-digit haul could be on the cards.
Despite being limited to 20 league appearances this term, Maddison has registered nine goals and six assists in the top flight.
Dream Team bosses should always seek midfielders who provide regular goal involvements and the Foxes’ star has been in the top bracket for the last three years in that regard.

    Kaoru Mitoma (£4.5m)
    Brighton’s new fan favourite
The Japan international is one of the very few midfielders to average more points-per-game (4.5) than Maddison in 2022/23.
Brighton’s enterprising style of football has produced enough points for their midfield to share around liberally but Mitoma leads the way with 122 at this juncture.
The skilful winger, who was initially added to Dream Team at just £1.5m, has claimed three Star Man awards in the last nine Game Weeks.
In Game Week 28, he’ll play Brentford at the Amex (the Bees are generally less threatening away from home) before a trip to Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
The Cherries have conceded more goals (54) than any other Premier League outfit this season so Mitoma owners should be licking their lips.
    Jarrod Bowen (£3.9m)
    A rogue optionCredit: GETTY
West Ham have endured a season to forget so far and the fact they will start Game Week 28 in the relegation zone hardly screams: viable Dream Team assets.
But their No20 has been somewhat immune to the mediocrity around him this campaign.
In fact, plenty of Dream Team gaffers will be surprised to learn that only four players – Erling Haaland (£9.3m), Kieran Trippier (£5.7m), Kevin De Bruyne (£7.7m), Bruno Fernandes (£6.5m) – have earned more Star Man awards than Bowen’s six.

The Hammers host 20th-placed Southampton in a must-win game this Sunday before welcoming Newcastle to the London Stadium on Wednesday.
Granted, things could turn toxic if Bowen and company can’t vanquish Saints first up but the England international has a decent double Game Week on paper with both fixtures coming at home – even Eddie Howe’s side have conceded a few goals recently. More

I’m an ex-Man Utd star and was forced to neck a ‘Wes Brown Special’ – it nearly got me sacked by Sir Alex Ferguson

FORMER Manchester United striker Daniel Nardiello revealed Sir Alex Ferguson threatened to boot him out of Old Trafford after he necked a “Wes Brown Special” in a nightclub.Nardiello, 40, came through United’s academy before going on to play four games for the first team.

He also played for the likes of Barnsley, QPR and Rotherham and won three international caps for Wales.
But Nardiello recalled the time he was given a “Wes Brown Special” on a night out during his academy days.
After scoring in a game for United’s reserves, Nardiello’s team-mates urged him to go out and celebrate.
Speaking on the Under The Cosh podcast, he said: “I remember one time, I’ve played for the reserves at [aged] 16, 17 because they were short on players. A friendly game, come on, [played] 20 minutes and scored a goal.

“Got back to my digs and they [my fellow academy teammates] said, ‘Go out and celebrate. You’ve done really well, go out.'”
Having gone out in the city centre, Nardiello revealed he bumped into ex-United defender Wes Brown and one time Old Trafford striker David Healy.
Recalling the pair pulling him over to them, Nardiello said: “[I was] given us what he’s called a Wes Brown special.
“It was a triple gin, a triple whiskey and a triple vodka. He made us down all three.”

But word of Nardiello’s exploits quickly got back to United manager Ferguson.
And the Old Trafford icon hauled Nardiello into his office for a stern telling off.
Nardiello continued: “Anyway, Monday morning comes along and we’re in the office with Fergie and Neil Bailey and stuff.
“He [Fergie] said, ‘If you ever go out again in Manchester, you’ll be sacked from the club, you’ll leave the club.”
The ex-striker claimed Fergie “had spies out in Manchester” so if any of the academy players or first-team stars went out, word would get back to him.
Nardiello said: “Genuinely, he had his spies out in Manchester. It was known if we ever went out in Manchester.
“That was my first ever experience of it.
“In digs, I never went out like that again because you knew it was getting back and you didn’t want to get in s*** with the gaffer and Neil Bailey and the youth team guys as well.”

Man Utd told to ditch flop winger Jadon Sancho and seal Kaoru Mitoma transfer as Brighton star is ‘rare’ winger

MANCHESTER UNITED should get rid of Jadon Sancho and replace him with Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma, according to Red Devils legend Paul Parker.Sancho, 23, has started just two Premier League games since October as the England star continues to struggle to settle at Old Trafford.

Kaoru Mitoma has enjoyed a sensational first season with BrightonCredit: Reuters
He has registered just 10 goals and four assists in 63 appearances since arriving from Borussia Dortmund for £73million in 2021.
By contrast, Mitoma, 25, has been a standout player in the Premier League this season.
Joining Brighton for £2.7m in 2021 before being loaned out to Union Saint-Gilloise until last summer, the Japanese international has hit the ground running since breaking into the Seagulls’ side.
His five goals and one assist show just a fraction of the impact he has had on Roberto De Zerbi’s side and the south-coast outfit could command a big fee.

But Parker, who won two Premier League titles with Man Utd, believes he would be worth it as he can be a defender’s nightmare.
Speaking to MyBettingSites, he said: “Mitoma gave Trent-Alexander Arnold a very bad time but to be fair, a lot of people have done that.
“I really like him. He is very direct and he wants to go on the outside of his opponent, which is a rarity in today’s football. No defender wants that and he is very good at that.”
Parker, who received 19 England caps, is aware bringing in transfer target Mitoma would likely see one of United’s forwards exit the club.

Erik ten Hag is blessed with an array of options either side of the frontman including Marcus Rashford, Antony, Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial, Anthony Elanga, Bruno Fernandes and Facundo Pellistri.
But Parker insists he would have no problem with his old club axing Sancho.

He added: “I would love to see him at Man United but then they have to offload some of their wingers and they could start with getting rid of Jadon Sancho. I would rather have Mitoma in the squad than him.
“He has proven himself in the Premier League and I doubt that Sancho will ever do that. I think he should go back to Germany and play in his comfort zone where he is best.
“But if he comes to the club Man United needs to figure out what to do with Rashford, who is best at the left wing. But that’s a luxury problem to have two good wingers.” More

Craig Bellamy once stopped Newcastle training after X-rated rant on academy star for doing too many stepovers

EX-NEWCASTLE ace Craig Bellamy once stopped the team from training so he could blast an academy star for doing too many stepovers. The revelation was made by former Toon defender David Edgar.

And these standards were especially prudent for academy starsCredit: PA:Press Association
The Canadian revealed how he and fellow academy product Matty Pattison had been called up to join the first team for training.
However, things did not go to plan with Pattison irking Bellamy to the point where he physically stopped the team from playing until they left.
Speaking to the Under The Cosh podcast, Edgar explained how he tried to behave during the session
He said: “Speak when spoken to and don’t give the ball away when Craig Bellamy’s around.

“I liked him. I just thought he had very very high standards and he could be ruthless, don’t get me wrong, but just again, high standards and he loved football, just loved football.
“I was quite a simple player – you get it and move when you play with the first team. Matty was 15 stepovers and a couple of Cruyffs – one too many for Bellers’ liking.”
And Pattison’s continuous skills eventually incited the rage of the Welshman.
Edgar explained: “One time, he kept giving it away and he (Bellamy) just flicked the ball up, picked the ball up and he went, ‘No. Nobody’s training until you send that ginger f*** back’.

“He held on to the ball and I remember Shearer going, ‘Come on, Bellers,’ and I’m going, ‘F***ing hell, I’m doing all right here,’ but he was going, send them back.
“We got sent back. Sent us back to the academy because Matty was giving the ball away.
“‘He’ll never make it’, he (Bellamy) said.”
Despite Bellamy’s claim, Pattison would go on to make his debut a few months later, though Edgar actually made his Premier League debut before his team-mate.
However, a tragic series of events followed for the South African midfielder.
Edgar added: “Matty made his debut a couple months later. Look at Patter, man.
“Like I say, he made his debut, does his knee, his old man passes away, all in the space of a couple months.
Comes back [and] does his knee again, so you build that resilience to things like that [Bellamy’s insults]… that’s not going to bother you.
“Plus he was… he was ginger.”
Pattison made appearances for the Magpies before leaving for Norwich in 2007.
Meanwhile, Edgar played 23 times before departing for Burnley in 2009.

In Bellamy’s case, he enjoyed his most prolific period at Newcastle, scoring 43 goals in 128 games.
He would later go on to play for West Ham, Cardiff, Manchester City and Liverpool, where he landed the League Cup, before retiring at Cardiff in 2014. More

Premier League’s best paid players revealed with Haaland NOT first and bit-part Man Utd star in top five on £373k-a-week

KEVIN DE BRUYNE has topped the list of the Premier League’s highest-paid players. The Manchester City star, 31, rakes in £425,000 per week after agreeing a new deal with the English champions two years ago to keep him at the club until 2025.

But who else is challenging him for the boast of biggest salary in the division?
Well, according to L’Equipe, De Bruyne’s team-mate Erling Haaland comes next.
The Norwegian, 22, may be in his debut season in the Premier League but he is already being paid more than £400,000 per week for his services.
And he is repaying Man City with a remarkable goalscoring record, bagging a sensational 42 in 37 games in all competitions.

The Premier League’s top five earners
The third and final player to be earning above the £400,000-a-week mark is Manchester United keeper David de Gea.
However, the Red Devils shot-stopper is re-negotiating a new contract as his deal expires in the summer.

And he is set to take a wage cut in order to remain at Old Trafford.
The only non-Manchester-based player to feature in the top five is Liverpool’s Mo Salah.

The Reds forward, 30, penned a new deal last year to keep him at Anfield until 2025.
The improved wages included within the contract mean he now earns £373,750 every seven days.
But the fifth and final name on the list will come as a surprise to many.
While De Bruyne, Haaland, De Gea and Salah have all proven themselves to be integral to their respective clubs, it is hard to say the same about Man Utd man Jadon Sancho.
The English forward, 23, has started just two Premier League games since October.
Yet he is still raking in the same wage as Salah – making him one of the biggest earners in the league.
