Exclusive – Chelsea no rush for new boss
Chelsea are in no rush to appoint a new manager.
Julian Nagelsmann is the early favourite for the Stamford Bridge hotseat after the Blues sacked Graham Potter on Sunday.
But SunSport understands owner Todd Boehly is preparing for a long and thorough search for a new boss after seeing his first appointment flop inside seven months.
The Blues sacked Graham Potter after just seven months in charge and £330million spent in the January transfer window on Sunday.
    Potter’s unwanted record
Graham Potter leaves Chelsea with the joint-worst record of any manager in the club’s history during the Premier League era.
Potter lasted just six months in charge having replaced Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel last September.
Potter departs having won just SEVEN of his 22 league games in charge, drawing the same amount of times while losing eight.
His last came on Saturday at home to Aston Villa, with the 2-0 defeat enough to seal his fait.
With a 1.27 points per game rate, only Glenn Hoddle faired as badly as Potter, leaving with the same PPG.
    Remarkable Rodgers stat
SUNDAY marked the first time in eight years that TWO Premier League managers lost their jobs on the same day.
And remarkably Brendan Rodgers was involved in both.
Rodgers and Potter are the first Premier League managers to lose their job on the same day mid-season since 4 October, 2015.
Amazingly, Rodgers had been sacked on that day too by Liverpool while Dick Advocaat resigned from Sunderland.
The Reds got rid of Rodgers, who had led them to a second-placed finish in 2014, after three and a half years in charge after dropping down to tenth in the table.
Dutchman Advocaat kept Sunderland up the year prior and was declared a hero on Wearside but he walked away after failing to pick up a top-flight win in the first two months of the following campaign.

    What Chelsea’s statement said
Chelsea announced Potter’s sacking in a statement on their website shortly after 8pm tonight.
It read: “Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club.
“Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition.
“In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future.”
    Bruno Saltor taking the reins

    Gary Lineker tweets
Gary Lineker commented: “Another one bites the dust. Graham Potter the latest to be fired.”
Chelsea sunk to a 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa on Saturday, their TENTH loss of the season.
And despite the Stamford Bridge board showing faith to Potter and his project in the past, enough proved enough.

    Carragher reaction
Jamie Carragher joined fans in trolling Todd Boehly after Graham Potter was sacked – with Chelsea called “the worst run club in world football.”
Potter was only hired in September in replace of Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel.
And the comparisons between ex-Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and Todd Boehly were quickly made by fans online.
Liverpool legend Carragher tweeted: “Todd said he would be different to Roman.
“I feel for Graham Potter, but it was inevitable. You don’t change Tuchel for Potter. Ridiculous decision to start with.”

    More on Nagelsmann
Julian Nagelsmann made his name at RB Leipzig and was hired by Bayern after Hansi Flick left to take over at Germany.
The young manager won the Bundesliga last season but was sacked this month due to off-field dillemas.

    Todd Boehly’s statement
Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said: “On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea.
“We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome.
“Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season. We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high.”
    Next manager odds
Julian Nagelsmann is favourite for the Chelsea job following the departure of Graham Potter.
That’s according to bookmakers Betfair, who believe Nagelsmann is the clear frontrunner for the vacant position having priced him at 10/11 to succeed Potter at Stamford Bridge.

    Julian Nagelsmann – 10/11
    Mauricio Pochettino – 7/2
    Zinedine Zidane – 6/1
    Pep Guardiola – 17/2
    Oliver Glasner – 10/1
    Ruben Amorim – 10/1
    Luis Enrique – 11/1
    Diego Simeone – 12/1
    Brendan Rodgers – 12/1
    Thomas Frank – 12/1
    Jose Mourinho – 14/1

    Talks took place today
SunSport revealed this evening that Blues chief Todd Boehly had held crunch talks with Potter at the club’s Cobham training ground on Sunday afternoon.
And the American ultimately decided to wield the axe for the second time this season as the club is currently toiling in 11th place in the Prem table.
    Julian Nagelsmann is the favourite
The German is without a job having been surprisingly sacked by Bayern Munich and replaced by ex-Blues boss Tuchel.
Nagelsmann made his name at RB Leipzig and was hired by Bayern after Hansi Flick left to take over at Germany.
The young manager won the Bundesliga last season but was sacked this month due to off-field dillemas.

    Chelsea’s latest mangerial hunt
Chelsea now face a hunt for a new manager, just a few months after sacking Thomas Tuchel, who led the Blues to the Champions League in 2021.
Potter’s departure leaves Chelsea in chaos, less than a year after the takeover.
The next manager is a huge appointment for the new owners.
    £330m investment
Toddy Boehly and his fellow investors splashed £330m on new signings in January, taking their total spending well clear of £600m.
Graham Potter however struggled to find the right blend for the new recruits including £107m star Enzo Fernandez and £88m winger Mykhailo Mudryk.
Although they were understood to be backing Potter during a difficult transition period, they did want to see more bang for their buck.
    Bruno Saltor in charge

    Todd Boehly breaks silence
Co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali added: “On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea. We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome.
“Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season. Breaking – Chelsea statement
Chelsea have released a statement on Graham Potter.
The Blues wrote: “Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club.

    Who could replace Potter?
After Julian Nagelsmann, other candidates include former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, former Spain manager Luis Enrique, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Oliver Glasner, and even two-time former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese boss won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and three League Cups over two spells in West London.
Potter’s sacking is a major U-turn for the new Chelsea board.
Breaking – Potter sacked by Chelsea
Chelsea have SACKED Graham Potter after just seven months in charge and £330million spent in the January transfer window.
Potter was hired on a five-year deal worth £12m-a-year after Champions League-winning manager Thomas Tuchel was axed following a poor start to the season.
However, ex-Brighton boss Potter has been unable to turn Chelsea’s fortunes around with the Blues sliding to 11th in the top-flight after their 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.
The 47-year-old Englishman leaves Chelsea with the WORST record of any Blues manager in the Premier League era, being dismissed after a horror run.
Former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is one of the favourites for the Chelsea job now, with Julian Nagelsmann also available after his Bayern Munich sacking – himself replaced by ex-Blues man Thomas Tuchel.
Pochettino, 50, remains a free agent having been sacked by Paris Saint-Germain in June 2022 despite leading them to the French title.

However, ex-Brighton boss Potter has been unable to turn the club’s Chelsea’s fortunes around with the Blues sliding to 11th in the top-flight after their 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.
Bruno Saltor will take charge of the West Londoners until a permanent successor for Potter is appointed.
A club statement read: “Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club. Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition.
“In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter-final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid.

“Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future.”
“Bruno Saltor will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach.”
SunSport revealed this evening that Potter held crunch talks with the Blues brass at the club’s Cobham training ground on Sunday afternoon.
Potter met with Global Head of Transfers Paul Winstanley and Technical Director Laurence Stewart – both of whom recommended to the board that he be sacked.

He then met with co-owner Behdad Eghbali before being relieved of his duties.
A joint statement from Boehly and Behdad Eghbali read: “On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea.
“We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person.
“He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome.

“We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter-final ahead.
“We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high.”
Blues fans were over the moon at Potter being relieved of his duties, with one tweeting: “Finally we are free.”
Another said: “Congratulations to us all.”
And another said: “Am I dreaming? Did they finally do this? Love it.”
One chimed in: “Goodbye and good riddance as well as thanks for finally listening to the supporters.”
Potter, 47, leaves Chelsea with the WORST record of any Blues manager in the Premier League era, being dismissed after a horror run.
The former Brighton boss leaves Stamford Bridge with the worst points-per-game record of Blues bosses who have managed more than 20 games – picking up an average of 1.27 points per game.
Potter won seven of his 22 league matches in charge of the club, drew seven and lost eight.
That translated to the Blues collecting a mere 28 points from an available 66.

Potter fared slightly better in Europe, with the Blues set to face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals this month.
However, he still only won 12 of his 31 games in charge.
Former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is one of the favourites for the Chelsea job now, with Julian Nagelsmann also available after his Bayern Munich sacking – himself replaced by ex-Blues man Tuchel.
And reports claim new technical director Christian Vivell is “pushing” for the German to replace Potter.
Pochettino, 50, remains a free agent having been sacked by Paris Saint-Germain in June 2022 despite leading them to the French title.
Other candidates include former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, former Spain manager Luis Enrique, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Oliver Glasner, and even two-time former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese boss won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and three League Cups over two spells in West London.
Potter’s sacking is a major U-turn for the new Chelsea board.
Boehly had thrown his support behind Potter, who the club believed was the man to rejuvenate the squad.
Boehly and his fellow investors splashed out £330m on new signings in January, taking their total spending this season well clear of £600m.
Potter, however, struggled to find the right blend for the new recruits including £107m star Enzo Fernandez and £88m winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

Although they were understood to be backing Potter during a difficult transition period, Blues chiefs ultimately decided they need to see more bang for their buck.
Potter saw his side slump to a TENTH Premier League defeat of the season as they went down 2-0 at home to Aston Villa on Saturday evening.
That took Chelsea’s dire record in the league to just three wins in their last 13 since the turn of the year.
And unsurprisingly, a rising number of Blues supporters want to see the under-fire ex-Brighton chief relieved of his duties.
Some Chelsea fans started a petition to have Potter sacked in February after running out of patience with the inexperienced manager.
The club now face a hunt for a new manager, just a few months after sacking Tuchel, who led the Blues to the Champions League in 2021.
Potter’s departure leaves Chelsea in chaos, less than a year after the takeover.
The next manager is a huge appointment for the new owners.
Boehly heads up a consortium – along with Behdad Eghbali of Clearlake Capital – that bought Chelsea for £4.25billion last year from Roman Abramovich.
Potter’s appointment as Blues boss was never received warmly by the Stamford Bridge faithful.

It came on the back of the controversial dismissal of the beloved Tuchel.
And to make matters worse, Tuchel is now in charge of German champions Bayern Munich – who ran riot against title rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

Man Utd LIVE: Takeover LATEST, Newcastle reaction, Ten Hag new deal EXCLUSIVE, Qataris bid TWIST – updates

CAPTAIN Bruno Fernandes was spotted ordering his Manchester United team-mates to clap the travelling fans after defeat at Newcastle. The Red Devils were beaten 2-0 at St. James’ Park as the Magpies leapfrogged them into third.
Elsewhere, manager Erik ten Hag is set to be offered a new contract by United regardless of whether a takeover is completed, according to reports.
The Dutchman has made a huge impact in his first season at Old Trafford after joining from Ajax last summer.
And we’ve got the very latest on United’s takeover talks.
CASINO SPECIAL – BEST ONLINE CASINOS FOR 2023
    Dalot echoes Shaw’s feelings
Diogo Dalot has echoed Luke Shaw’s sentiments that Newcastle United’s stars wanted the win more than the Red Devils.
“Disappointment I think is the word, we wanted to come here and do what we planned,” Dalot told MUTV.
“We tried to find spaces and we knew they wanted to press high, even after that, we tried to play, but we could have been more patient.
“Especially in the last third, we could have been a little bit more patient with the ball to find the spaces, to create more chances. We have to show desire, beat them in desire and beat them in every challenge we have.
“I think they wanted that a little bit more than us today and that can not happen. If we want to fight for more, want to compete for the Premier League, we have to be more consistent, come here and dominate the game.
“We knew they were going to be intense and press high, but we have to beat it and be more consistent.”
    Weghorst future
Erik ten Hag has spoken about the possibility of Wout Weghorst staying at Man Utd.
The Dutch striker is currently on loan with the Red Devils until the end of the season.
“Of course [he could stay permanently] and I think he is doing a lot of elements of football [I like] – doing them really well. And he’s doing a really good job for us,” he said.
“Pressing: he is the leader of the process in pressing, starts the press, very good in backward pressing. He is taking up positions, his link-up play he’s doing really well. He is making good movements, making space for others, so he’s also good in set-plays, so he is really contributing to this team.
“I think after Christmas we play 25 games and we lost two and he played almost all of the games so he is really part of the success.”
    Shaw slams team mates
Luke Shaw was convinced where the buck stopped after Man Utd were beaten easily 2-0 at Newcastle.
“Not good enough,” Shaw told Sky Sports when asked about the team’s performance.
“I feel like every time I speak after games I’m always honest. As a team we have to be honest.
“I don’t think Newcastle won on quality today, they won on desire, passion, hunger, attitude. They had a higher motivation than we did.
“That can’t be possible. I feel I say the same every time we lose. They wanted it more. At Man Utd that shouldn’t be possible.
“It’s unacceptable. It’s not what we want to set out to be. In big games you need that hunger. We didn’t create too much.
“Maybe you can say it’s been coming. Our levels dropped before the international break. We have three days to pick it back up.
“The players had a chat in the changing room after with no staff round. It’s down to us. It was nowhere near good enough. We had to speak out in front of each other.
“It’s important. We’re a team. When we go out onto the pitch, we have to fight for each other. Sometimes it hasn’t looked like that.
“I’m sure we’ll speak again. We need to realise the problems quickly and change it round. We still can have a very good season but with results and performances like this we can’t.”
Ten Hag tears into his flops
Erik ten Hag has torn into his Man Utd players, after their disappointing performance against Newcastle.
Speaking after the game, ten Hag told Sky Sports: “I hate to say it but they were better today – especially their determination, passion and desire. They wanted to win more so they won.
“We had our opportunities but then you have to go for goal with the determination they did. It wasn’t good enough. We allowed them too many chances. You have to be hungry and give everything every game.
“Our attacking game wasn’t good enough. I don’t want to focus on one person. It was a team performance.”
    Slap in the face
Lisandro Martinez fumed after being subbed in Manchester United’s defeat to Newcastle – but Red Devils fans directed their fury at manager Erik ten Hag instead.
The Argentine centre-back was hooked for Facundo Pellistri in the 83rd minute of their defeat at St James’ Park.
Martinez reacted angrily, slapping a chair as he went to take his seat.
Fans were quick to comment on Martinez’s tantrum, with one saying: “Who saw Martinez on the bench? GRRRRRR.”
Another said: “Martinez slapping the bench chair!”
The Old Trafford faithful, however, directed their anger at Ten Hag as he also subbed Rafael Varane for fellow defender Victor Lindelof as they were chasing an equaliser.
    Fernandes wants fans respect
Bruno Fernandes was spotted ordering his Manchester United team-mates to clap the travelling fans after defeat at Newcastle.
The Red Devils were beaten 2-0 at St. James’ Park as the Magpies leapfrogged them into third.

Second half goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson condemned United to their latest disappointment in the Premier League.
A 7-0 drubbing to Liverpool, a goalless draw at home to Southampton, and then this mauling which left Erik Ten Hag shellshocked.
It was a miserable afternoon all-round for United, with many fans questioning Ten Hag’s decision to leave out Fred.
    Defender blow
Man Utd have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Kim Min-jae with Liverpool reportedly keen on the Napoli star.
He has attracted interest from a host of European clubs including Paris Saint-Germain.
Napoli are believed to be keen to tie him down to a new contract as a result, which could include increasing his buyout clause to £79million.
United have been linked to the South Korea international throughout the season.
But it seems rivals Liverpool have overtaken them in the race to sign the 26-year-old, according to Foot Mercato.
    Game over
    All over.
Callum Wilson has put the game to bed with a header from a corner from Kieran Trippier.
    The Toon go wild.
Ten Hag looks on. 2-0, all over.
    Goal!
    Newcastle United lead!
It’s a header from ex-Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock – who heads home.
The Toon deserve it. They have been the better team.
    Double save
Man Utd have David De Gea to thank for the keeping the scores level.
    Take a bow, son.

    Bore draw
We’re all square at Old Trafford at half-time.
Not much to talk about, really. Game of a few chances, with Newcastle perhaps squandering the best.
Man Utd will need to show a bit more in the second half if they have any designs of winning this game.
    Ten Hag’s role in takeover
Erik ten Hag is distancing himself from Man Utd’s potential takeover.
The Dutch tactician revealed he met one bidder Sir Jim Ratcliffe – but there was nothing more to their chance encounter.
“They leave me [alone] which is fine because all the others have to decide, it’s not up to me, he told Sky Sports.
“My job is to lead, to manage the first team, to let them perform and get the right results, that is what I have to focus on.
“In a previous press conference I said Sir Jim Ratcliffe, I met him and we shook hands but that is all. It was a coincidence because we coincidentally met in the corridor so not officially, I was not in contact with anyone.”
    The opposition
Newcastle are today’s opposition at Old Trafford.
Here’s how they will line up.

    Three changes vs Newcastle
Erik ten Hag has named his starting XI for the crunch clash at Newcastle.
And he has made three changes as he hopes the Red Devils can strengthen their grip on the top four.
Raphael Varane, Diogo Dalot and Antony all start.
Marcus Rashford missed England duty but is deemed fit from the outset today while Casemiro is suspended.

    Red Devils to return?
Two former Man Utd strikers are among the early contenders to replace Brendan Rodgers.
Leicester announced this afternoon the Northern Irishman had left the club after four years in charge following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is 14-1 to take over at the King Power while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is at 16-1 with Betfair.
Top if the pile, though, is Thomas Frank (5-1), Ange Postecoglou (17-2) and Rafa Benitez (9-1).
    ‘Tells you as it is’
Hughes, 59, told the Mirror: “Erik ten Hag has come in and steadied the boat that was rocking from side to side.
“He’s going to need to have time and he’s done the initial part of dealing with the demand that was on him as the manager of the club, stabilising everything.
“He looks like he’s instilled discipline into the group and the club as a whole.
“Playing under Sir Alex Ferguson, his standards for discipline and behaviour were strong, it was one of his mantras.
“It looks like Ten Hag has taken a little bit of that on board and it seems like he is a very straightforward and structured guy who just tells you as it is.
“Players can respond to that and maybe there were a few that were wavering or going on a different tangent – he’s managed to bring everyone together, which was required.
“I hope Manchester United sticks with Erik ten Hag.”
    Erik making his Mark
Mark Hughes believes Erik ten Hag is copying one key aspect of Sir Alex Ferguson’s managerial approach to help turn Manchester United around.
The Dutchman took over at Old Trafford in the summer and, after a nightmare start, is helping transform the club.
Ferguson led the club to a staggering 13 league crowns during his 26 years at the helm, often putting his no-nonsense approach into action with the infamous hairdryer treatment.
The first two of those, in 1993 and 1994, he had Welsh star Hughes in his team.
Now the Bradford manager is beginning to see small glimpses of Fergie’s success in the current Red Devils gaffer.
    Joao-ing around
Man Utd hope to steal Joao Felix away from Chelsea in the summer.
The striker joined the Blues on loan in January but it is believed they are seeking a permanent move.
However Chelsea did not include a clause in the deal to make the move permanent, so other clubs can make an approach.
United have been linked to Felix for some time and are monitoring his current situation, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Erik ten Hag is reportedly prioritising a move for a striker when the summer transfer window re-opens.
And it is believed Felix could be available for £88million, though the Red Devils are hopeful of a more “favourable deal”.
    Ten Hag on Weghorst transfer
Erik ten Hag has hinted Man Utd could sign Wout Weghorst at the end of the season.
The big forward has been a mainstay since joining on loan in January despite a lack of goals from him.
However, Ten Hag suggested the club will sign him permanently after declaring he was part of his long-term plan.
Asked about Weghorst being a long-term team member, he said: “Of course. I think he is doing a lot of elements of football really well.
“Wout is doing a really good job for us. He is the leader of the process in pressing, he starts the press and is very good in backward pressing.
“He is also taking up (good) positions and in his link-up play he’s doing really well.
“He is making good movements, making space for others, so he’s also good in set-plays.
“He is really contributing to this team. I think after Christmas we have played 25 games and we lost two – and Weghorst played almost all of the games so he is really part of the success.”
    Triple threat
Man Utd have a three-man shortlist for their central midfield needs in the coming summer.
According to the Daily Mail this list consists of Declan Rice, Frenkie de Jong and Jude Bellingham.
It comes with United weighing up the future of Scott McTominay, who Erik ten Hag recently praised for his versatility.
However, a lack of starting opportunities means he may look to go elsewhere, with today’s opponent Newcastle one team interested in his services in the summer.
    Bad losers
Manchester United were the “worst losers” under Sir Alex Ferguson.
That is according to Warren Barton, who recalled the 2001 4-3 classic which was headlined by a bust-up between Alan Shearer and Roy Keane.
Barton said: “Shearer said ‘by the way, where were you lot when it all kicked off with Roy Keane at the end?’
“The fact is, Big Al was very capable of looking after himself. He didn’t need anyone. It’s no secret that there was no love lost between the pair.
“Shearer had just celebrated wildly around St James’ after his goalbound shot had been bungled in by Wes Brown for an own goal to put us 4-3 up.
“Clearly it really wound up the opposition players. Keane and the rest of that United team were the worst losers.”
You can read the full story here.
    Morning, United fans
Marcus Rashford should return at Newcastle this afternoon – as United boss Erik ten Hag closes on a monster new contract.
And Leicester want Harry Maguire back on loan, while Luke Shaw will “definitely” sign a new contract.
That’s the pick of the talk around Old Trafford ahead of their first Premier League match after the international break.
Newcastle will leapfrog third-placed United if they win today.
So Ten Hag is especially keen for 27-goal frontman Rashford to be fit enough to start after missing England’s first two Euro 2024 qualifiers.
The Dutchman said: “I have good hope. He trained but he had to do some treatment.
“For me, it’s positive that he took that time to turn off from football [to go to New York].
“I’ve seen him back this week and he showed a lot of energy, a lot of motivation.”
Rashford’s strike partner Anthony Martial is also expected to return after injury.
SunSport exclusively revealed last night that Ten Hag is poised for a £3million-a-year pay hike, courtesy of a new contract until 2028.
And United chiefs want the deal to go ahead regardless of what happens over the club’s takeover saga.
On the transfer front, Leicester have joined the hunt for central defender Maguire following reported interest from PSG and West Ham.
Finally, left-back Shaw is expected to extend his Old Trafford stay, despite Ten Hag insisting he’s not been kept up to date with negotiations.
‘City eye United & Arsenal target Fati’
Manchester City are tipped to join United and Arsenal in reportedly pursuing Barcelona striker Ansu Fati.
The Spain whizkid has suddenly struggled for a first-choice spot with Barca this season.
And  Football Insider suggest City are keen on the seven-cap ace, 20.
The 20-year-old’s dad certainly seems happy for his son to move on.
He said recently: “If it was up to me, I would take him [to another team].
“As a dad, I am angry. Seeing Ansu play so little winds you up a little bit and sometimes I think as a father, not a coach.”
Ten Hag ‘still keen on Sesko’
Erik ten Hag is patiently monitoring Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Šeško, reports say.
Brighton’s Evan Ferguson and Atalanta star Rasmus Højlund have focused more in talk over a new striker for United this summer.
But transfer insider Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT that Ten Hag is in no mood to drop his pursuit of Slovenia hero Sesko, 19.
Ten Hag confident Rashford will be fit tomorrow
United are optimistic 27-goal striker Marcus Rashford will return at Newcastle tomorrow – after he missed England’s two games last week with injury.
Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag said: “I have good hope.
“He trained but he had to do some treatment, he had to do some individual training and he joined in the group (on Friday).
“For me, it’s positive that he took that time to turn off from football [to go to New York].
I’ve seen him back this week and he showed a lot of energy, a lot of motivation.”

When presenter Ed Chamberlin announced the news of Rodgers’ departure to the viewers, Henry proceeded to put his hand on Carragher’s thigh.
It was a clip which blew up the internet as people enjoyed the hilarious moment.
And the pair celebrated seven years since the memorable clip by reconstructing it during CBS Sports’ coverage of the Champions League last year.
Now, it was the turn of Boyd to act it out – while letting out a sarcastic gasp – as he worked as a pundit on Sky Sports during Celtic’s 2-0 win at Ross County earlier.

News broke that former Celtic manager Rodgers had left Premier League strugglers Leicester by mutual consent.
The smirking Boyd quickly placed his hand on the knee of James McFadden, who quickly brushed off his co-pundit and said: “I’m fine, I’m fine.”
Leicester were beaten 2-1 by Crystal Palace on Saturday and have decided to axe Rodgers in a bid to beat the drop after slipping into the relegation zone.
Coaches Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell will take charge on a caretaker basis.

Potter received the dreaded vote of confidence from his bosses last month but results have yet to improve.
And Saturday’s humbling by Villa has prompted Boehly to have another think about the direction his club is heading in.
SunSport understands the American held showdown talks with his close associates over Potter’s future at the club.
The under-pressure Potter wasn’t summoned to the West Londoners’ Cobham base by his boss.

He was already present at the ground when Boehly’s trusted staff arrived at Cobham.
It’s unknown whether the American has decided to wield the axe for the second time this season after giving Thomas Tuchel the boot in September.
Defeat to Villa has left Chelsea a whopping 12 POINTS off the Champions League places.
And Potter is refusing to offer any excuses for his side’s latest lacklustre display.

He told Match of the Day: “After a defeat there is always a disappointment.
“There is always a feeling we have not moved forward, that’s fair to say.
“We have to analyse the performance and look at the things we’ve done well and what we can do better.
“Defensively we’ve left ourselves too open but again if you look at the stats of the game we had chances ourselves, we had one-v-ones.
“But the most important thing, putting the ball into the net, we were second-best.
“I don’t like to blame anybody, I have to take responsibility.

“We are a team, we have to stay together, we are together. We win or lose together.
“We will recover and we will prepare for the next game. We need to respond, that’s clear. But we look forward to it.”
Chelsea’s dire record in the league currently stands at a meagre three wins in their last 13 games since the turn of the year.
And, unsurprisingly, a rising number of Blues supporters want to see the under-fire Potter relieved of his duties.
Those calls have strengthened now that former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is available.

A petition for his dismissal was launched back in February and has thousands of signatures.
Chelsea will be back in action on Tuesday, welcoming fellow under-performers Liverpool to Stamford Bridge. More

Martinez reacted angrily, slapping a chair as he went to take his seat.

Another said: “Martinez slapping the bench chair!”
The Old Trafford faithful, however, directed their anger at Ten Hag as he also subbed Rafael Varane for fellow defender Victor Lindelof as they were chasing an equaliser.

One tweeted: “United are down 1-0 to Newcastle and their manager subs in [Harry] Maguire and Lindelof in place of Lisandro Martinez and Varane.”
Another said: “Sorry, who can explain to me why Ten Hag has taken off both Varane and Martinez?”
And another said: “Doesn’t make sense in any way. Martinez has been our best ball player too.
“This is stupid on so many levels.”

And tensions threatened to boil over as Lisandro Martinez was spotted punching the dug-out after he was substituted off.

Then, after the final whistle, a host of dejected United players started to trudge straight off towards the tunnel.
But the raging Fernandes was spotted blasting his team-mates.
And he ordered them to follow him and go and acknowledge the away end.
But the anger did not stop there as the Sky Sports cameras then showed right-back Diogo Dalot involved in an argument with winger Antony – who had been taken off near the end.

Ten Hag told Sky Sports afterwards: “I hate to say it but they were better today – especially their determination, passion and desire.
When quizzed about his substitutes, he responded: “We were not happy. We played too high in midfield and it was easy for their two centre-halves to go and attack.
“We had to play a little bit deeper. Therefore we made the sub. Then we made changes to bring more energy.
“Then in the end we were losing so we decided to go with three at the back and play an extra offensive player and I decided to take both centre-backs off with Lindelof to defend the spaces.
“We have to deal with the setback and learn a lesson. So many times recently, we came back after Liverpool. I don’t have that concern. I believe in the team. I believe we’ll bounce back.” More

Man Utd ratings: Flops outclassed by Newcastle with De Gea sparing more blushes and Weghorst having day to forget

MANCHESTER UNITED were outclassed by Newcastle with only David de Gea sparring their blushes from further embarrassment. Second-half goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson put a dent in United’s Champions League hopes.

It was a day to forget for Erik ten Hag’s men, while Newcastle sit pretty in third.
Here is how Martin Blackburn rated Ten Hag’s performers.
    DAVID DE GEA – 7
Great double save to deny Isak and Willock. Bit of a mess with a goal-kick routine just before the Toon opener but then did brilliantly to tip Joelinton’s header onto the bar late on.
Could have been much worse but for the Spaniard.

    DIOGO DALOT – 5
Came in for the unwell Wan Bissaka. Deflected shot forced a save from Pope and one nice cross just evaded Rashford’s boot.
Had a tough time trying to keep the lively Saint Maximin quiet in the first half.

    RAPHAEL VARANE – 6
Solid defensively as he and Martinez spent much of the game on the back foot. Did well to deal with Willock as he chose the wrong option and went for goal.
Got forward at the end but his header from Sancho cross was tame and straight at Pope.

    LISANDRO MARTINEZ – 6
Great block from Isak’s shot and suggestions he handballed it rightly waved away.
Had a tough time trying to keep the Swede quiet but stuck to his task – looked bitterly frustrated as he sat on the bench after being subbed late on and was caught taking it out on the chair.

    LUKE SHAW – 5
Looked tired after his exertions with England and struggled against Willock for much of the afternoon.
Clever piece of defending to deny Burn a second goal and one useful cross as United searched for a leveller.

    SCOTT McTOMINAY – 5
Rewarded for his Scotland heroics with a rare start in the league.
Running battle with Guimaraes in the first half but came out second best for much of the game and not really a surprise when he was replaced by Fred as the visitors searched for an equaliser.

    MARCEL SABITZER – 5
Tried to push United on in the second half and opened the home side up a couple of times. Also saw a low shot blocked.
The on-loan man from Bayern Munich has been a useful addition to the squad but is not the same standard as the suspended Casemiro.

    ANTONY – 6
Seemed to fancy his chances against Burn early on and the match up between the two was watchable.
Great back heel to send Dalot away down the right but planted a volley over when he should have hit the target. Ran out of puff and was hooked on the hour.
    BRUNO FERNANDES – 5
Wanted a pen for a challenge by Schar but neither the ref or the VAR agreed he was too theatrical. Home fans chanted ‘there’s only one Bruno’ in support of Guimaraes and the Portuguese was second best this time.
Shrugged off too easily by Gordon.

    MARCUS RASHFORD – 5
Completed his rapid recovery from toe injury which kept him out of England duty to start here – but may as well have had another day off.
Just failed to get on end of Dalot cross but found chances hard to come by.
Wout Weghorst had a day to forgetCredit: Getty
    WOUT WEGHORST – 4
Hit the side netting early on after good work by Antony but that was one of only seven touches in the first half.
Things didn’t improve after the break so it was no surprise when he was hooked for Martial just after the hour.
    SUBSTITUTES
    SANCHO (for Antony 61) – 5
A couple of useful crosses but did not have the impact ETH would have hoped.
    MARTIAL (for Weghorst 61 ) – 6
Clearance off the line from Schar kept United in it and one missed chance.
    FRED (for McTominay 82) – 5
Could not stem the black and white tide as the Toon continued to dominate.
    PELLISTRI (for Martinez 83) – 5
Not really enough time to affect the game from an attacking point of view

    LINDELOF (for Varane – 83) – 5
Beaten too easily by Wilson for the second goal.
