Arsenal in shock Dominic Calvert-Lewin transfer pursuit as Mikel Arteta looks to expand squad for Champions League

ARSENAL are considering a shock swoop for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to reports.Mikel Arteta currently has just two out-and-out strikers at his disposal in Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah.

However, both players have suffered injuries this season, consequently leaving the Spaniard short in attack.
While January signing Leandro Trossard has the ability to lead the line – as previously highlighted by Arteta – the Arsenal boss is keen to add another natural No.9 to his ranks.
And according to Football Insider, Calvert-Lewin has emerged as a target.
The Gunners are hoping that the 26-year-old will be available for a reduced price come the end of the season, especially if Everton are relegated to the Championship.

Arteta is understood to be an admirer of the striker and he is keen for the club to launch a bid when the summer transfer window opens.
That is despite Calvert-Lewin’s injury history.
The Everton star has made just 12 appearances so far this season.
He was absent for the start of the Premier League campaign due to a knee injury and he has missed the club’s last seven games while recovering from a hamstring issue.

Alternatively, Arteta could look to Hale End academy graduate Folarin Balogun to bolster his attack.
The 21-year-old is currently enjoying a successful spell in France with Reims.
Balogun has scored 17 goals in 28 league games for the Red and Whites, making him one of the most prolific players in Ligue 1. More

Newcastle end clean sheet drought as Kieran Trippier becomes first Dream Team defender to reach 200 points this season

LIGHT the beacons!Newcastle ended their clean sheet drought with a 2-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday as Kieran Trippier (£5.7m) became the first defender to pass 200 points in Dream Team this season.
The reliable right-back provided his eighth assist of the campaign as Eddie Howe’s side comprehensively outplayed the Red Devils at St James’ Park.
Erik ten Hag’s men mustered just one shot on target in the game and by the second half it felt inevitable that the Magpies would register their first clean sheet in all competitions since January.
    Back on trackCredit: GETTY
The mini drought was a painful one for a sizeable chunk of Dream Team managers as Nick Pope (£4m) and Newcastle’s first-choice defenders are among the most popular assets in the game.
The England goalkeeper banked a much-needed five points having failed to notch any positive returns in the previous eight Game Weeks.
In fact, Pope has reclaimed his place at the top of the goalkeeper rankings from David de Gea (£4.1m) as there was just one point between them prior to Game Week 28 – the Spaniard incurred a minus point in the north east.
Fabian Schar (£3.6m), Dan Burn (£4.1m) and Sven Botman (£3.3m) all added eight points to their respective tallies at the weekend.
The latter is the only one of Howe’s preferred back four not inside Dream Team’s top ten defenders right now – he’s one point adrift in 11th.
But there’s no doubt Trippier was the big winner of the fixture.

The 32-year-old claimed his eighth Star Man award of 2022/21 to swoop 15 points when all was said and done – only Kevin De Bruyne (£7.7m) has more Star Man awards (nine) at this stage.
At the time of writing, no player has scored more points than the England defender this Game Week.
Having moved onto 210 points overall, Trippier now holds a whopping 74-point lead at the top of the rankings among defenders – Ben White (£4.5m) is the new name in second place.
Not only is Trippier the first double centurion in his position, he may well finish the season as the only defender on 200+ points.
Now that Newcastle’s clean sheet drought is over, gaffers will be wondering how many more they can register in the coming weeks.
Howe’s side face West Ham, Brentford, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Everton and Southampton before the end of April – a relatively favourable run all things considered. More

“And I think as well, because I’ve been part of that process as a kid myself, I’m passing on a load of knowledge to them so I’m having conversations and stuff, which I love.
“But I enjoy my golf as well. So I want to play a bit of golf and family time as well.”
He added that family circumstances would currently prevent him taking on a full time job as a manager.
Terry commented: “The reason I left [Aston] Villa, I’ve not really said, but was a family reason.

“I had to kind of come back home and be with my family and stuff, just to kind of support them.”
In a very frank admission, the ex-Chelsea skipper even said that other coaches at Aston Villa were better at it than him.
He stated: “I always see myself as a coach in the long term.
“I enjoyed the coaching side of it but I have to say there were better coaches than me.
“We had Craig Shakespeare and Richard O’Kelly at Villa, they were better coaches than me.
“I always saw myself as a manager, but I went for a couple of jobs when I left [Villa], didn’t get those jobs and got a bit deflated with it.
“So I’ve just decided against it.” More

However, Potter could soon find himself back in the dugout with Leicester keen to find out his immediate plans, claim the Mail.
The Foxes dismissed Brendan Rodgers as boss with the team 19th in the league and in danger of getting relegated.
It is unclear whether Potter would be keen to return to management so soon after his Chelsea disaster.
Leicester chiefs are yet to identify a primary target to take charge until the end of the season.

The club are thought to be long-term admires of Potter from his days at Brighton.
They reportedly view him as a potential candidate and if they were to stay up, he could be a top choice for the summer if an interim man is appointed for the remaining ten games.
Rafael Benitez, Jesse Marsch, Ralph Hasenhuttl and Adi Hutter are other names in the frame alongside Potter.

Owner Khun Top supposedly did not want to sack Rodgers after four years in charge, but he felt he was left with little choice after a run of no win in seven.
Potter departed Chelsea with the joint-worst record of any manager in the club’s recent history.
Bruno Saltor is in interim charge of the West Londoners with owner Todd Boehly eyeing ex-Bayern Munich man Julian Nagelsmann, former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and previous Barcelona gaffer Luis Enrique.

Aubameyang last featured in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham in February and started just four Premier League games under Potter.
He was signed by former boss Thomas Tuchel and never really fit into Potter’s plans.
So when Chelsea announced the 47-year-old had been sacked on Instagram, Aubameyang ‘liked’ the post.
He has been left frustrated by his lack of game time in recent weeks, which included being left out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad for the knock-out stages.

Aubameyang, 33, was also omitted from the matchday squads against Leicester, Everton and Aston Villa after scoring just one Premier League goal for the Blues.
His future at the club is in doubt with Barcelona plotting his return, having sold the striker to Chelsea for £10million last summer.
Aubameyang appears keen on the switch after being spotted celebrating with his former team-mates following their El Classico win at the end of last month.
Barcelona reportedly like the idea of bringing Aubameyang back to the Nou Camp as a “low cost option” amid their financial issues.

Inter Milan are also interested in the Gabon international and Chelsea reportedly want to sell to them over Barca because they are not happy with the Spanish club’s attempts to lure him away.

Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring from the penalty spot during the first half and doubled his goal tally with a superb strike after the break.
Granit Xhaka also got on the scoresheet shortly after unlikely goalscorer White popped up with a composed finish within two minutes of the second-half restart.
The right-back had scored just one Arsenal goal prior to Saturday, so he was unsurprisingly surrounded by his teammates who were keen to celebrate with him.
However, Zinchenko left many fans completely perplexed with his particular celebration.

How Chelsea could line up under Julian Nagelsmann next season including another huge transfer spree for Bayern stars

CHELSEA could embark on ANOTHER huge spending spree in the summer after sacking Graham Potter. Potter was sacked after the club dropped into the bottom half of the table following a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa, and the move could see Julian Nagelsmann appointed as his successor.

A look at how Chelsea may line-up under Nagelsmann
The German was surprisingly sacked by Bayern Munich over the international break, with ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel replacing him.
Nagelsmann remains one of the most sought-after coaches in European football despite parting ways with Bayern, meaning Chelsea need to put their neck out to ensure they land him.
This could come in the form of transfer promises, to which Nagelsmann may point to a number of stars he is familiar with.
RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku is said to be “signed and sealed” as a Chelsea player following a medical in September.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
Nagelsmann may also green-light a raid for Josko Gvardiol, one of the Blues’ main targets last summer.
Firepower is also a huge issue for Chelsea, and ex-Arsenal star Serge Gnabry may be a perfect remedy.
The German has found his place to be on the bench for much of the season, and with discussions over a contract extension said to be “getting complicated”, a transfer may be on the cards.
Alternatively, a familiar face may fancy some redemption at Stamford Bridge.

An alternative look at Chelsea under Nagelsmann
Timo Werner left the Blues last summer after two frustrating but successful years.
The attacker was known for being crucial in Chelsea’s style of play but was often the culprit of lacklustre finishing or numerous offside calls.
Should Nagelsmann want to bring in another forward, Werner could prove both an effective and popular choice.
Another area the Blues will need recruits in is midfield.
Enzo Fernandez was brought in for an English record of £107million, and while he has impressed, midfield partner Mateo Kovacic could be sold amid interest from Manchester City.
N’Golo Kante’s injury issues mean he is no Mr. Reliable for Chelsea either, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher are not the standard of player the club need to win the big trophies.
This is where Bayern star Leon Goretzka comes in.
The 28-year-old is a star of the Bavarians and would be the most difficult to sign out of any of the stars mentioned.
However, with reports suggesting Manchester United loanee Marcel Sabizter may have a future in Munich under Tuchel, this may open a pathway for Chelsea to sign Goretzka.
    Read More on The Sun
Chelsea had a previous interest in signing him while he was still at Schalke, but ultimately failed as Bayern beat them to the punch in 2018.
A face familiar to the Premier League in the form of Illan Meslier may also be brought in to upgrade the goalkeeper situation. More
