Gabriel Jesus reminds Dream Team gaffers of his pedigree with 13-point haul against Leeds

SOME of Arsenal’s more pessimistic supporters feared that the knee injury Gabriel Jesus (£4.8m) suffered at the World Cup would derail their title challenge. As it happens, the Gunners compensated for the Brazilian’s absence impressively with Eddie Nketiah (£3.4m) and Leandro Trossard (£4m) stepping up at different times to ensure the wins kept coming.
Still, there’s no doubt the four-time Premier League winner’s return to action has given Mikel Arteta’s side a boost ahead of the run-in.
As if to underline this point, Jesus scored a brace at home to Leeds on Saturday to ensure Arsenal matched Man City’s 4-1 win earlier in the day to therefore maintain their advantage in the title race.
    A subtle message of confidence
The 26-year-old scored a penalty to open the scoring with usual spot-kick taker Bukayo Saka (£5.6m) on the bench because of an minor injury niggle.
Then in the second half he was on hand to convert Trossard’s smart pullback, just as a No9 should.
Naturally, his performance would have been noted by Dream Team bosses.
Gabriel Martinelli (£3.9m) claimed the Star Man award but Jesus’ haul of 13 points was the biggest of the game and the joint-best registered by a forward at the weekend among all fixtures.
Having been the second-most popular player in the game prior to Game Week 1, the former Man City striker provided healthy returns for a sizeable chunk of gaffers before the World Cup break.
He was transferred out of tens of thousands of teams when news of his three-month lay-off broke but a double-digit haul upon his first league start back gives Arteta and Dream Team managers a nice selection headache.

There’s only space for three starters in the front line but Martinelli, Trossard, Saka and Jesus would all be justifiably aggrieved if named on the bench when fully fit.
Rotation is inevitable and sensible in a real world context but potentially problematic in the realm of Dream Team.
Will Jesus start every game at centre-forward between now and the end of the campaign?
If so he would clearly be a brilliant Dream Team option.
However, if he’s to share duties with Trossard and/or Martinelli (Saka is a lock on the right when fit) then he may not be given the necessary minutes to provide plentiful returns.
With transfers set to be refreshed on Friday, there must be a few Dream Team bosses tempted to bring Jesus back into the fold… it is Easter weekend after all. More

Averaging 1.27 points per game, he is the club’s joint-worst boss with Glenn Hoddle in the Premier League era.

The Mirror claim owner Todd Boehly has the Portuguese boss’ name in his list of potential targets.

He is also offers Prem experience after being in the dugout at Hull, Watford and Everton.
Reports also suggest that ex-Bayern Munich manager Julian Nageslmann and former boss Mauricio Pochettino remain in contention for the job.

Chelsea ‘can only appoint Julian Nagelsmann if Bayern Munich AGREE’… and clubs could face off in Champions League semi

CHELSEA have begun their hunt for a new manager after sacking Graham Potter. However, if they are to appoint Julian Nagelsmann they may be forced to wait until the summer.

Chelsea could face Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern in the Champions League later this seasonCredit: Alamy
That is because Bayern Munich has a sensational clause in Nagelsmann’s contract which means any club wanting to hire him before the summer needs to speak to them despite them sacking him.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Kaveh Solhekol revealed: “The information we got from Sky Germany is that there has been no contact between Chelsea and Nagelsmann or his representatives.
“Another obstacle is Chelsea would have to speak and negotiate with Bayern Munich if they wanted Nagelsmann.
“There is still a clause in his contract which means Bayern Munich would have to agree to him moving to another club before the summer.”

The two sides remain in the Champions League, and could face one another in the semi-finals if they both progress past their quarter-final opponents.
Should this occur, it will see Thomas Tuchel return to Stamford Bride for the first time since being sacked earlier in the season.
However, both teams face a very difficult task in doing so.
Chelsea face reigning champions Real Madrid, while Bayern face English champions Manchester City.

On the clause, Solhekol added: “I think Bayern have been very clever [and] very cute in protecting their interests.
“Obviously they don’t want Nagelsmann going to Chelsea and revealing all the secrets of the way they operate.
“So [there are] obstacles, but I don’t think the obstacles are insurmountable.
“If Chelsea want him they need to contact his representatives, they need to contact him and speak to him and they also need to speak to Bayern Munich.”
As many as SEVEN bosses have been earmarked for the Chelsea job.
In the meantime, Ex-Brighton star and Potter assistant Bruno Saltor has been handed the reins until a successor is appointed. More

But he has since struggled to establish himself as a regular name in the starting line-up.
And Ten Hag is becoming more and more frustrated as a result.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Dutchman is losing patience with Sancho – so much so that he could decide to let the winger leave at the end of the season.

Fans left baffled by Eddie Howe’s time-wasting remarks after Newcastle beat Man Utd… as Arsenal supporters pile in

And after the game Howe responded to Erik ten Hag’s accusation that Newcastle deliberately ran the clock down during their goalless draw at Old Trafford earlier this season.
Ten Hag called the tactics “annoying” but Howe could not understand the claim and hit back at the Dutchman after the match.
He said: “I want to make one thing very clear – we want the ball in play. We want a quick game.
“I don’t get where this time-wasting nonsense has come from because it’s not us and you saw today, we wanted the ball back in play as quickly as possible. High energy, high tempo.”

However many football fans sided with Ten Hag, with Arsenal supporters particularly quick to point out Howe’s hypocrisy.
Many suggested Newcastle time wasted throughout their match at The Emirates and produced tactics to reduce the amount of time the ball was in play.
One fan said: “Only when it suits but Howe is a hypocrite because he has time wasted.”
Another added: “Yes, definitely not 😂 he should go back to the Emirates game and tell us how many minutes was the ball in play.”

A third said: “’ve never seen a team waste as much time as they did at Emirates.”
And another commented: “Rewatch the game against Arsenal then Eddie lad. Started time wasting from 30 seconds in. I get that’s a part of the game and you gotta do what you gotta do, but at least take it on the chest and not back off.”
Howe was delighted with his side’s performance in the win over United, as the Magpies dominated for large parts.
He said after the game: “I’ll always stand up for my team. I’ll always stand up for what I believe is right, and that’s what I’ll always do. I think if something’s not accurate, then naturally you want to put the right point across.
“But we fully deserved the win. We showed real belief. Today is a blueprint for how we want the team to play, in almost every phase.” More

But the 24-year-old now has a new agency having been pictured with his new team Jonathan Barnett and David Lee.
And ahead of the upcoming summer window, he could look to move away from West Ham after a disappointing first season at the club.
Scamacca joined back in July from Serie A side Sassuolo for £30.5m, and has shone in the Europa Conference League with five goals in nine outings.
However, owing to injury and poor form, he has made just 11 Premier League starts, scoring only three times.

He is currently fighting to win back his place in the team from £15m January arrival Danny Ings.
West Ham boss David Moyes has previously questioned Scamacca’s “physical data” in relation to his running statistics this campaign.
And ahead of the Euros next summer, the Italy international could use his new agency to look for a new home to win a place in Roberto Mancini’s squad.
CAA Stellar already represent the likes of Jack Grealish, Jordan Pickford and Ben Chilwell.

Despite his struggles, La Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that Inter Milan are targeting a move for Scamacca.
The Serie A side are looking to replace veteran frontman Edin Dzeko, 36, at the end of the season.
The publication claims that talks between the former Manchester City ace and Inter over an extension have stalled. More

‘It just can’t happen right now’ – Thomas Tuchel to block Liverpool from signing key transfer target

BAYERN MUNICH boss Thomas Tuchel is set to block Liverpool from signing Ryan Gravenberch, according to reports. The Reds are supposedly in the market for a midfielder this summer with the likes of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of contract at the end of the season.

Gravenberch is reportedly a target for Liverpool in a £25million move, but the deal is set to be blocked by Tuchel.
The new boss is keen to hand all his players a chance to prove themselves at the club.
Gravenberch was signed by Bayern last summer from Ajax for a fee of £16million.
However, he failed to establish himself under previous boss Julian Nagelsmann, starting just four games this season.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Liverpool’s move for the 20-year-old “just can’t happen right now”.
He says: “Gravenberch didn’t enjoy playing under Nagelsmann.
“Now that Nagelsmann has gone, Tuchel will give everybody a fair chance.
“Gravenberch is a phenomenal talent, has got physicality, intelligence and dynamism.

“But he just needs shaping a little bit to understand that game management. That will come with age and experience.
“Therefore, Tuchel will absolutely give him a fair chance. And because there’s so little time left in the season, that is likely to extend into the pre-season as well.
“That means that links with Liverpool coming back in are very much premature at this stage.
“Unless there’s a scenario where the player is really saying he’s unhappy and driving that exit, I just don’t think he will leave.
“And when you get a new manager coming in, it will be the opposite with Gravenberch.
“He’ll be looking to make a statement and prove to Tuchel that he’s worthy of playing, starting and contributing.” More

Next Premier League manager sacked odds: Steve Cooper and David Moyes favourites to be axed

STEVE COOPER is favourite to be the next Premier League manager relieved of his duties. That’s according to bookmakers Betfair, who’ve priced the Nottingham Forest boss at 11/10 to become the 14th managerial casualty of the 2022-23 season.

We’ve reached the business end of the campaign, but that clearly won’t stop clubs from considering their options.
Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers and Chelsea boss Graham Potter become the 12th and 13th top-flight departures of the season yesterday, and Betfair think Cooper is most likely to follow suit.
Nottingham Forest extended their winless run to seven matches over the weekend when drawing 1-1 with Wolves at the City Ground.
Daniel Podence scored a late equaliser to leave Forest in 15th position with 27 points from 28 matches, and a single point above the relegation zone.
Forest have now dropped 15 points from winning positions in home Premier League games this season, the most of any other side.
Next Premier League manager to leave his position (14th)Betfair odds

    Steve Cooper – 11/10
    David Moyes – 5/2
No Manager To Leave – 7/2
    Thomas Frank – 11/1
    Ruben Selles – 14/1
    Julen Lopetegui – 14/1

Think YOU know who will be the next Premier League manager to depart? Register a new account with Betfair and when you stake £10, your account will be credited with £30 in free bets to spend on anything you like!

Cooper’s side are now second-favourites to be relegated from the division at 10/11 with perhaps the most difficult fixtures remaining.
Forest still have to face Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal in their final ten games and tomorrow’s trip to Leeds is a genuine six-pointer.
David Moyes is next in the betting at 5/2.
The Scotsman, 59, has spent much of the season as favourite to be the next manager axed but looks more assured after their 1-0 win over Southampton.
The Hammers have 27 points and a valuable game in hand over the majority of their relegation rivals.
No manager to leave is available at 7/2, ahead of outsiders Thomas Frank (11/1), Ruben Selles (14/1) and Julen Lopetegui (14/1).
