Best XI of Premier League stars at risk of relegation this summer as rivals look to swoop in transfer market

THE Premier League battle for survival is hotting up with NINE teams desperately trying to retain their top-flight status. And, as almost half of the division fights to stay up, the rest will be eyeing up cut-price deals for the array of stars who could find themselves in the Championship next season.

That includes several international players – with a select group of Gareth Southgate’s England squad in there.
But who makes up the best XI of players in the relegation scrap?
    GK: Jordan Pickford
Pickford has been England’s undisputed No1 for years – but that status could come into doubt if Everton go down.
He played a key role in their survival a year ago and will need to be on top form to do the same again this term or else Tottenham may swoop.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
An honourable mention for Keylor Navas, who could go from Champions League winner to Championship within a couple of years. Although he is only on loan at Nottingham Forest.
    RB: Ricardo Pereira
One of the best right-backs in the Premier League before the first of three serious injuries in 2020, Ricardo is just getting back to full fitness.
He scored the final goal for Brendan Rodgers with a belter at Palace and is simply too good for the Championship should Leicester go down.
    CB: Marc Guehi
The ex-Chelsea man has shown his class at Crystal Palace and has forced his way into the England set-up.

Like Pickford, he has been linked with a move to Tottenham for the next step in his career.
    CB: James Tarkowski
Tarkowski gets the nod ahead of the likes of Joachim Andersen, Max Kilman and his own Everton team-mates Michael Keane and Conor Coady.
Another who would surely have plenty of Premier League suitors with Newcastle missing out on him a year ago.
    LB: Neco Williams
The left back in the team is Williams as he impresses for Steve Cooper at Forest.
The Wales international, and former Liverpool star, has proven he is Premier League quality and causes opposition full-backs plenty of trouble when he pushes on down the wing.
    CM: Declan Rice
He has the West Ham armband and probably captains this XI, too, given his leadership and quality.
Rice looks destined to leave for Champions League football in the summer after rejecting new contracts with the midfielder a No1 target for Arsenal.
    CM: Ruben Neves
Like Rice, Neves is Wolves’ captain and has been linked with Manchester United for the last few transfer windows.
The Portuguese star boasts bags of quality, especially with his ability to rifle the ball home from distance.

    CM: Youri Tielemans
The Leicester and Belgium star may not quite be hitting the heights of his 2021 FA Cup-winning goal this term, but he is undoubtedly still a classy operator.
His contract at the King Power expires in the summer and he is set to walk away for nothing, allowing the likes of Arsenal or Manchester United to snap him up on a free transfer.
    RW: James Maddison
One of the very best players in the country, let alone in the relegation battle – Leicester need Maddison over the remaining fixtures to fire them to safety.
Many of the ‘Big Six’ would want the England star in their team, Newcastle had two bids rejected last summer but will surely go back in for him – while Manchester City and Tottenham are also reportedly keen.
Leicester will be unable to keep hold of James Maddison and Youri Tielemans if they go downCredit: Alamy

    ST: Diego Costa
It was quite the shock when Costa returned to the Premier League with Wolves and, in truth, he has not made much of an impact.
One thing is for sure, though, the experienced fiery forward will not be lining up in the Championship – but finding another English team could be tricky.
    LW: Wilfried Gnonto
The Leeds teenager has burst on to the scene this season after making his Italy senior debut in the Nations League, moving to Elland Road from Zurich.
The forward hobbled off on international duty last month and his absence could be a crucial blow – but Gnonto will be not short of options come the summer.

Other notable mentions should go to the likes of Tyler Adams, James Ward-Prowse, Eberechi Eze, Amadou Onana, Philip Billing, Matheus Nunes, Morgan Gibbs-White and Alex Iwobi in midfield.
And the forwards include Harvey Barnes, Wilfried Zaha, Rodrigo, Adama Traore, Brennan Johnson and Jarrod Bowen.

Man Utd ‘want to trigger Kim Min-jae’s bargain release clause but face transfer battle with two Premier League rivals’

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly interested in triggering the release clause of Napoli star Kim Min-jae, but will have to fend off a lot of competition. The Mail Online has reported that the Red Devils are among three Premier League clubs who are keen on a move for the centre-back.
Kim Min-jae has managed two league goals from centre-half in the league this season
The 26-year-old is rumoured to be interested in a move to the English top flight and will have plenty of options if his clause is triggered.
United are said to be joined in the chase for the South Korea international by Liverpool and Tottenham.
Kim has been a crucial part of Napoli’s impressive campaign this season.
He has featured 36 times for the club already as they sit 16 points clear at the top of Serie A with a Champions League quarter-final tie with AC Milan to come.

The former Fenerbahce defender joined the Italians in the summer for a modest £16million, but is understood to be valued significantly higher now.
The £40million release clause in his contract would see him leave for below his market value after only one season at the club.
Napoli could try to remove the clause by offering Kim a fresh set of terms despite his recent arrival.

PSG ‘set to ditch Newcastle transfer target Ekitike after just 12 months’ putting Premier League clubs on alert

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN are tipped to offload Newcastle target Hugo Ekitike after ONE season. The French striker, 20, has also previously been linked with Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan.
Hugo Ekitike has struggled to unseat PSG’s famous trip of frontmen and it’s thought PSG could transfer-list him in the summerCredit: AFP
PSG landed the Under-20 international on loan from Reims last summer.
That deal means the Ligue 1 leaders have to buy him at the end of the season, but Le Parisien suggest he will then be transfer-listed.
Ekitike has, unsurprisingly, struggled to displace Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar up front.
But many pundits have been disappointed by his efforts.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Ekitike has managed just four goals in 27 matches across all competitions for PSG.
Boss Christophe Galtier admitted the 6’2″ frontman was unhappy with his “limited playing time”.
Galtier said earlier this term: “I told him that I was in part responsible, but that he was also responsible.
“When you have the attacking trio that we have at PSG that requires a lot of commitment and resilience and you have to keep going.

“Clearly, he is a talented player, who must make up for his lack of game time in training.
“We have said that he must work more, must bring more intensity so that when he comes on, he can add more. He has lost confidence because he hasn’t played much.”
Ekitike is thought to have rejected a £33million Toon bid ahead of his move to PSG.
And Erik Ten Hag’s United were reportedly in contention to sign him last summer. More

Chelsea XI: Kepa; James, Fofana, Koulibaly, Cucurella, Chilwell; Fernandez, Kante, Kovacic; Felix, Havertz.

“There is a lot of personality, a lot of games for Chelsea and international experience. We need players who are able to handle the pressure.”
The return of N’Golo Kante, 32, from injury is a huge boost for Chelsea as he makes his first Premier League start since August.

Bruno’s two changes from the loss to Villa are to drop Mykhailo Mudryk and Ruben Loftus-Cheek for Kante and Wesley Fofana.
Saltor admitted during Monday’s pre-match press conference that he has never selected a starting line-up during his coaching career.
He said: “Tomorrow is going to be the first time [I pick a team].
“I have been coaching for four years and have been coaching under Graham [Potter].
“Obviously, he has been the manager and he always had the last word. It’s quite clear that it’s not been the case.
“I feel good. It is my duty. A duty and a responsibility. I am at a really important club and I want to try my best.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool are without Virgil van Dijk for the trip to West London, while Mo Salah drops to the bench.

Kevin De Bruyne wears matching tracksuit as Man City star enjoys stroll through Cheshire with wife Michele

HE’S the Premier League’s best-paid and arguably most silky-skilled star. But Manchester City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne opted for the simplest of pleasures as he strolled with his family in a Cheshire village on a day off.

KDB made it even more plain as he wore matching grey tracksuit top and bottoms in his walk with wife Michelle.
De Bruyne was pushing two-year-old son Suri in a pram.
The couple, who have three kids, basked in the gentle sun and a goal-den glow from Saturday’s demolition of Liverpool.
The Belgium hero drilled City 2-1 up and then crossed for Jack Grealish to round off a 4-1 Prem win at the Etihad.

But De Bruyne looked reflective as he pushed a buggy on Tuesday.
Maybe that’s partly because champions City remain eight points behind leaders Arsenal, albeit with a game in hand.
But with the arrival of British Summer Time, KDB, as well as the clocks, has sprung forward as the 31-year-old regains his peak form.
Grealish’s purple patch might be one reason for that as the Englishman, for now at least, is overshadowing Pep Guardiola’s overseas brigade.

Mo Salah’s shock opener for the eighth-placed Reds was shrugged aside as Guardiola’s men highlighted the gulf this term between last season’s top two.
That made the day for Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp as grey as KDB’s tracksuit.

But he is already heavily linked with a return to the Premier League as Spurs search for someone to replace the departed Conte.
Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter have all been mooted as potential options.
But Rodgers is the frontrunner and could bring several Leicester players with him should he arrive in North London.
Among them is midfielder Youri Tielemans, 25 – who is out of contract and expected to depart in the summer.

Harvey Barnes, 25, is another talented operator who could be looking for a move, particularly if Leicester fail to avoid relegation.
The Foxes sit two points adrift of safety with ten games to play.
And Spurs could be searching for more attacking options if Harry Kane departs in the summer.
Tottenham’s record goalscorer is being heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

How Rodgers could set up Spurs without Harry Kane
That could mean Spurs look for a different type of forward option in the form of No10 James Maddison, 26.
Conte’s 3-4-3 formation meant there was no place for a playmaker behind Kane, but Rodgers reverting to a back four could create a spot for the England international.
And Maddison is a player Spurs may try to sign whether Kane leaves or not as he can play on the right or off of the striker.
Then, outside of the Leicester contingent, Brentford keeper David Raya is a name Spurs are reportedly monitoring.
The Spaniard, 27, is a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris – who is preparing to enter the final 12 months of his deal.
