Erik Ten Hag told the BBC: “We have to be more clinical and more ruthless and this game has to be finished by half time and we didn’t.
“But it is still a very good performance and it is still a big compliment to the team.”
That concludes our coverage of Manchester United’s win over Everton.

    Jordan Pickford reacts
Everton star Jordan Pickford stated that his team has “eight finals” left after his man-of-the-match performance against Manchester United.
Pickford told the BBC: “We know they are a good side with them being in the top four.
“We were still in the game with it being 1-0 but as a team unit we need to be better. We had a game plan and sometimes you have to hold your hand up. We have got to keep grafting and working hard.
“We know as a team we want to be much better and coming to Old Trafford we need to step up to the plate. We have eight games left and they are eight finals.”

    Harry Maguire speaks
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire admitted the hosts should have done more in the first half after all the missed opportunities.
Maguire told Sky Sports: “It was great football from ourselves and we were disappointed to only go in 1-0 up [in the first half].
“The game should have been gone. The lads started on the front foot, we were aggressive, we created chance after chance after chance and I think if the score was three, four or five nobody would have any arguments.
“So yes, we were disappointed to go in at 1-0 and we knew the second half would be different but I felt like we controlled the game well.
“We got a comfortable 2-0 win in the end and now we focus on the next. We had a game plan and got in behind them a lot.”

Man Utd 2 Everton 0: Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial seal vital win in race for Champions League football

ERIK TEN HAG was left thanking the unlikeliest hot shot in town as Manchester United took another stride towards nailing down a top four finish.Scott McTominay would never be anyone’s idea of a prolific midfielder, yet his killer first against Everton took his tally to FIVE in the past fortnight.

McTominay spun and drilled in the 36th-minute strike which finally broke the Toffees’ resistance and kept United in the box seat for the Champions League.
That followed four in two games for Scotland over the international break and matched his tally over the previous 18 months for club and country.
It was no more than United deserved, after battering the Blues from the off, with Anthony Martial’s point-blank second rubber-stamping a win that never looked in doubt.
Yet it wasn’t all roses for manager Ten Hag, as Marcus Rashford limped off with ten minutes to go, casting doubts on him making Thursday’s Europa League clash with Sevilla.

At least Martial has finally swapped the treatment table for the pitch again, if Rashford isn’t fit for the first leg of the quarter-final.
United will certainly need the Frenchman’s eye for a goal, because it took them an age to kill off a game they should have wrapped up long before the break.
They probably would have done had it not been for Jordan Pickford as well, as time and again the Everton keeper kept them out.
He scooped away one Rashford drive, got down smartly to deny the same man, and made it a treble by blocking his half-hit effort after initially dithering.

A strong right arm pushed a fierce Antony strike behind and then Ben Godfrey got back to nick it off the Brazilian’s toe just as he was about to pull the trigger.
It was just about the only time the Everton left-back won his own personal battle on a nightmare afternoon which eventually saw him hooked at half-time.
Godfrey seemed to spend the entire 45 minutes he was on the pitch turning and chasing back after being caught out by yet another 50-yard ball.
Safe to say he didn’t learn his lesson, and Sean Dyche’s decision to replace him with the more mobile Vitalii Mykolenko at least saved him further punishment.
By then United were a goal to the good, and Everton were merely fortunate that it wasn’t a whole lot more.
As it is, McTominay’s strike was all they had to show for it – and they had to wait until the 36th minute for that.
Rashford laid the foundations, by dancing and darting his way across the box looking for an opening.
When none came, the ball broke to Jadon Sancho on the right, who took a couple of touches and slid a precision pass through a packed area for McTominay.

And the Scottish midfielder raced behind the backline before spinning and letting fly with a shot that finally left Pickford standing.
With Everton lacking any threat up top, that was always going to be enough – and when Seamus Coleman slipped, and Rashford slid it right, sub Martial was on hand just to make sure. More

More joked he was still trying to work out how Aaron Wan-Bissaka failed to convert a glorious chance when the game was goalless.
Some supporters even suggested that the manager needs to fine himself for breaking his rule around being late.
Ten Hag dropped Marcus Rashford for missing a team meeting for oversleeping and he reportedly fines players if they are not on time.

This is not the first time the Dutchman has been late, however.
He didn’t turn up when was supposed to for a press conference earlier this season and joked he should be fined.
Man Utd started the second half ahead thanks to a goal from Scott McTominay.
Anthony Martial made sure of all three points as he slotted home after being set up by Marcus Rashford.
But United were dealt a blow as the red-hot England forward limped off with an apparent injury. More

How Premier League sides are performing to their wage bill
Premier League sides released their wage bills for the past financial year in March, which pretty much covers the current campaign.
The Bees have had the most value from Thomas Frank’s squad.
The club currently sit 9th in the table, despite having the 18th lowest wage bill in the Premier League.
This gives Brentford a plus nine differential, the biggest overachievement in the division.

With the annual wage bill at £68million, the club’s points tally of 43 means that they have only spent £1.6m per point.
In a similar theme, Brighton are also seeing great value in the club’s philosophy.
The Seagulls are currently challenging for a spot in Europe and are 6th in the table.
However, the South Coast side has the 14th lowest wage bill, giving them a plus eight differential.

Brighton have only paid £2m per point that they collected this season.
Whereas the league’s big spenders, such as Chelsea and Liverpool, have proved that spending big does not always yield results.
The two clubs have both paid £8.5m per point this season, with the duo struggling outside of the European qualifying spots.
Crystal Palace are the only club in the league that are in a corresponding position to their wage bill.

The Eagles are currently 12th in the table and have the 12th biggest wages bill at £133m annually.
Each point earned by the Selhurst-based side has cost £4.4m.
Newcastle are another one of the league’s overachievers.
The Magpies are currently 3rd in the table, despite only having the 9th largest wage bill.
However, with the club’s mega-rich owners, the wages are likely to increase over the next few seasons.
Manchester United have the largest wage bill in the league at £384m per year.

Rashford headed straight down the tunnel after coming off, handing his match worn short to a young fan as he did so.
The injury appeared to occur when the forward stretched out for a high ball.
He was then seen appearing to hold his groin.
Rashford was replaced by Wout Weghorst for the final ten minutes of the match.

Erik ten Hag will be left sweating on Rashford’s fitness – especially after the forward scored the opening goal and provided the assist for the second in the 2-0 win over Everton.
Rashford is United’s top scorer this season, with Saturday’s strike his 28th of the campaign.
And it would be a major blow if the forward was to be ruled out with injury – especially with a Europa League quarter-final and FA Cup semi-final on the horizon.
Speaking after the game, Ten Hag blasted the schedule as the reason for Rashford’s injury.

Saturday’s win over Everton was a third game in six days for United.
And Ten Hag told BT Sport on his forward: “We have to wait, it doesn’t look well.
“Once again that is due to the schedule. It can’t be that you play three games in six days.
“We have to protect our players. Everyone wants the best players on the pitch. Everyone wants to see great, entertaining football like today. But then you need your best players.”
Ten Hag opted to leave Rashford on the pitch, despite United leading the game 2-0.
Speaking on the decision not to sub him off early, Ten Hag said: “I have that consideration, fair question.
“But in that moment you want also Anthony Martial, just coming back, you want to bring him back in routines, togetherness.
“It is developing the team, working on cooperations, you want to see them together to bring them together for routines that will give us benefits for coming games.
“When they are together then we have two goalscoring players, clinical players who can finish games.
“That is what you need in the final stage of the season to be successful, and the other thing is there was no indication at all, any complaints in the last days or in this game I would have taken him off.”

Meanwhile, United legend Paul Scholes said on Rashford: “He’s been brilliant for us this season, you never quite know with Marcus, he does tend to go down quite a bit with injuries then all of a sudden pops up and makes a miraculous recovery.
“I’m just hoping it’s maybe a little bit of fatigue or a little bit of cramp.” More

But the United manager shuffled the pack and found a formula which left Everton barely able to cope with United’s attacking thrust.
The in-form Scott McTominay played in a more advanced role alongside Marcel Sabitzer.
Meanwhile Bruno Fernandes, who has previously played at No10 and right-wing this season, was left to drop into the space in front of the back four.
The 28-year-old pulled the strings from midfield while Sabitzer and McTominay overloaded the Everton box.

“Didn’t think he’d be capable of it due to the lack of discipline in his positioning, but he’s been brilliant once again today. His passing range is really valuable.”
Another fan added: “We used McFred as double pivot under Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] and now Ten Hag is using Bruno as the cdm [central defensive midfielder] + making McTominay cook as an 8.”
“The level of coaching and tactics are so clear.”

How Arteta has got Arsenal loving life on the road, from swapping dinner partners to playing ‘spot the difference’

ARSENAL will look to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table when they face Liverpool tomorrow. The Gunners currently boast an impressive eight-point advantage over title rivals Manchester City with just nine games to go.

Sunday’s trip to Anfield is expected to set the tone for the remainder of the season.
If Arsenal win, they will move one step closer to the Premier League trophy.
But a loss will leave them in a vulnerable position, with Pep Guardiola’s City side waiting to capitalise on any mistakes.
Previously, the prospect of an away day – especially at Anfield – would have struck fear into any Arsenal team.
    Read More on Arsenal
But this season has been different.
The Gunners boast the best away record in the Premier League, with a total of 34 points taken from 14 games.
That is a huge improvement from last season, when they ended the campaign with the sixth-best away record.
Since re-joining the club as manager in 2019, Mikel Arteta has gradually introduced small changes to squad protocols off the pitch in order to improve overall performance – especially on away days.

Arsenal’s away form has dramatically improvedCredit: Getty
And those changes have finally started to take effect.
According to the Evening Standard, the Arsenal squad always travel together the day before a game and stay overnight at a hotel.
A key part of their pre-match preparation is having a meal as a group the night before.
While this may sound like a standard procedure for most teams before an away day, Arteta has implemented a unique rule to make sure that players and staff rotate who they sit with during meal times.
The Arsenal boss also organises mental-based games – including spot the difference – for the players to take part in while at the hotel so that they remain stimulated.
Then on the morning of the match, the squad collectively go out on a walk around the local area.
This season, Arteta has also introduced some new features to the away dressing room.
Several posters are now taken to any game on the road in order to make the away dressing room feel more like the Emirates Stadium.
The two main banners – for ‘identity’ and ‘unity’ – can be broken down to represent each of Arteta’s key values.
The word ‘identity’ breaks down to read: intensity, discipline, enjoy, non-negotiables, trust, improve, team and you.
While the word ‘unity’ reads: unique, non-negotiables, identity, tradition and you.
Following Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage last month, the Gunners were pictured in the dressing room with a small replica of the iconic clock from the Clock End of the Emirates Stadium and formerly Highbury.
It later emerged that Arteta and his coaching staff chose to bring the clock to away games as part of a psychological strategy to make each dressing room more homely.
While these strategies have proved to be faultless so far this season, Sky Sports pundit, and former Liverpool star, Graeme Souness has heavily criticised Arsenal for them.
In his column for The Daily Mail, he wrote: “I read the story about Arsenal taking their home comforts into opposition dressing rooms and had to read it again to make sure it wasn’t a joke.
“Really? Is this what the modern game has become?
“So Arsenal players arrive at Fulham to find their own clock is on the wall along with their own pictures and stickers?
“It’s extremely strange and only a winning manager can get away with that.
“The Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is doing a fine job but he has form for such nonsense.
“Last season he had You’ll Never Walk Alone played over the loudspeakers at training to prepare his players for a game at Anfield. They lost 4-0, so that went well for them.
“When I walked into an opposing dressing room I didn’t want to feel comfortable. I didn’t want to feel like I was in my living room at home. I was at work. I was on enemy territory and I wanted to feel fired up.
“If I had arrived at an away ground to find a clock from Anfield waiting for me on the wall, I would have burst out laughing. And I would not have been alone.”

Arteta has introduced some key changesCredit: Reuters
Arsenal’s upcoming clash with Liverpool will act as a huge test.
The Gunners have not won a Premier League game at Anfield since 2012, so Arteta will be eager to end the torrid 11-year run of poor results. More

Premier League’s longest-serving managers revealed with Ten Hag already in TOP HALF after record number of sackings

ERIK TEN HAG joined Manchester United last summer with expectations the lowest they had been since before Sir Alex Ferguson took over in the mid-Eighties.But the Dutchman is enjoying quiet success with the club already, leading them to a first trophy since 2017 and closing in on Champions League football next season.
Erik ten Hag is the ninth longest serving Premier League manager, despite only joining Man Utd last summerCredit: Getty
Beyond his wildest expectations however, would be the Premier League’s latest manager longevity stats.
Former Ajax boss Ten Hag is now the NINTH longest serving manager in the league, having only joined nine months ago.
That is mainly down to the fact that all but TWO clubs in the Premier League’s bottom half have parted company with their managers this season.
Only Steve Cooper at Nottingham Forest and David Moyes at West Ham have managed to remain in post all season with their clubs in the bottom half.
    READ MORE PREMIER LEAGUE NEWS
And both of those managers are still the subject of speculation over their positions, with their sides losing in midweek.
The Premier League’s longest serving manager is Jurgen Klopp, who is in his eighth year at Liverpool.
And despite the Reds sitting eighth after a disappointing season, the German’s position is not thought to be under threat.
The Premier League’s second longest serving manager is Pep Guardiola, who arrived at Man City in 2016.

And with City still challenging for the treble, it is not thought that he will be going anywhere any time soon.
Thomas Frank takes the bronze medal, having joined Brentford in 2018.
And astonishingly, Mikel Arteta is the FOURTH longest serving Premier League manager.
It feels like only yesterday when the Arsenal boss took over from Unai Emery, but he has now been at the club for over three years and has the Gunners closing in on a first title in 19 seasons.
No fewer than four Premier League clubs are now managed by interim bosses – Southampton (Ruben Selles), Leicester (Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell), Tottenham (Cristian Stellini) and Chelsea, following the return of Frank Lampard.
And Saints interim boss Selles is already the 15th longest serving manager in the Premier League, having been in the hotseat longer than the permanent Leeds and Crystal Palace managers.
There have been 12 sackings in this season’s Premier League, beating the record of ten, which was set in four seasons including, most recently, 2017/18. More
