However, joining the Premier League for the first time ever will cost the Bedfordshire side – as they will have to make huge improvements to their stadium to comply with trop-flight regulations.
Chief executive Gary Sweet said they would have to “pretty much rebuild” one stand at Kenilworth Road.
Sweet told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “It is maybe more of a gargantuan task than building a new stadium.
“There’s rather a lot of work to do.

“We’ve got about £8m, maybe £10m of improvements to do which is pretty much rebuilding one stand in less than three months, which is some task.
“It’s just really to comply with Premier League’s broadcasting requirements and some facility requirements that are needed.”
Sweet said the club “hoped to be putting a spade in the ground” to build the 23,000-seater stadium “at the end of this year or early next”.
Luton have had planning permission for their new ground since 2019.

Sweet added: “It’s quite a heavy investment for football at that level for us and will firmly put us into the Premier League bracket.
“But just to be able to get Kenilworth Road ready now, just for maybe two or three years, is maybe more of a gargantuan task than building a new stadium.”
Luton are in action again on Saturday against Rotherham at the New York Stadium. More

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson slams Newcastle for ‘taking the fun away’ from football

LIVERPOOL legend Mark Lawrenson has slammed Newcastle for ‘taking the fun’ away from football. Newcastle have been coming under increased scrutiny for supposed time-wasting on their march into the Premier League’s top four.

Manager Eddie Howe says accusations are overblown and Toon star Jacob Murphy made a cheeky gesture to Erik ten Hag after the Manchester United boss’ accusations about gamesmanship earlier this month.
But Liverpool legend Lawrenson was under no illusions as to who the worst offenders in the league were.
Lawrenson told Off The Ball: ” I’ll tell you who the worst are, I think, is Newcastle.
“Newcastle do it all the time now.

“In regards to the next season I think the Premier League are going to have a little bit of a look at this.
“Maybe even say ‘I tell you what, if you can walk, off you go’.
“And the game will go on and I think that would quickly stop it. It’s genuinely here all the time now.”
Lawrenson believes that teams plan their time wasting antics before the game.

He added: “It is [planned] 100 per cent. It’s very, very frustrating. It’s difficult for the referee.
“All of a sudden if they go down and stay down, then the ref has no other option. He might go over and say ‘are you alright’ to the player who’s injured and they’ll respond ‘no I’ve done this, or that’.
“That’s crept into football and, for me, it takes some of the fun away from it. All of a sudden, teams now realise.”
Newcastle are having a superb season and currently sit third in the Premier League and remain on track to qualify for next seasons Champions League.
Eddie Howe’s side travel to inform Aston Villa on Saturday lunchtime. More

Gary Neville changes top-four predictions as Man Utd, Newcastle and Tottenham battle it out

Spurs have played a game more than Newcastle and Erik ten Hag’s United, while also sitting three points behind them.
The Toon’s good form has led to Neville changing his predictions from earlier in the campaign.
The pundit now believes Newcastle WILL secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.
Neville told Sky Sports: “What a week for Newcastle. To beat Manchester United, West Ham away and then Brentford away, that’s a tough week and to get nine points – that’s a brilliant performance.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
“I didn’t have them down as top-four probably three weeks ago and even after the United game, I thought ‘well they’ve got three tough away games now in West Ham, Brentford and Aston Villa.’
“You’ll probably drop points in that and it will give Tottenham and Liverpool maybe a chance.
“But looking at them now, watching them closely against Manchester United – where I thought they were absolutely brilliant – I think they will finish in the top-four now because their confidence will be so high.
“I thought Man Utd were really poor against Newcastle. But what we’ve seen with this side under Erik ten Hag is that they do respond and they do bounce back.

“They were dominant against Everton but beating Brentford was really important. Six points from that week doesn’t look so bad now.
“They do respond and come back which will mean they do finish in those Champions League places.
“With Tottenham, they were pretty fortunate against Brighton. But it gives them a chance, they’re still in it.”
Although Spurs have played an extra match, they have a chance to overtake their rivals as they meet both United and Newcastle this month. More

How many points-per-game does Erling Haaland need to break Cristiano Ronaldo’s Dream Team season record?

HERE at Dream Team HQ we have long abandoned the pretence that Erling Haaland (£9.3m) faces any credible competition in the realm of Dream Team this season.Marcus Rashford (£6.8m) threatened to make it a two-horse race briefly but Manchester City’s No9 seemed to take that notion personally and he’s since opened up a 92-point lead over his cross-town rival at the top of the rankings.
And so, in search of tension in relation to the Norwegian’s exploits, we’ve been forced to consult the history books.
Cristiano Ronaldo holds the all-time record for most points in a single campaign – the Portuguese superstar amassed a whopping 477 points in 2007/08.
In fact, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is the only man to ever register 400+ points.
    A memorable campaignCredit: GETTY
A quadruple century looks a formality for Haaland at this stage.
The 22-year-old added a further 22 points to his tally this Game Week at the expense of Southampton and Bayern Munich.
A brace against Saints returned 12 points while a goal and assist versus the Bavarian giants produced ten more.
Haaland has banked 83 points in his last four outings, which is incredible even by his standards.
With 366 points to his name, he’s 34 shy of becoming just the second player ever to rack up 400 in a season – only an significant injury in the next few days will deny him that taste of history.

Whether he can overhaul Ronaldo’s imposing record is another matter and his chances may hinge on City’s progression in the Champions League and FA Cup.
    On the prowlCredit: GETTY
If Pep Guardiola’s side were to combust in Munich and give up their three-goal aggregate lead before suffering a shock defeat to Sheffield United at Wembley – a severely unlikely double – then Haaland would be have ten games remaining from this point.
He would therefore need to average 11.1 points-per-game to make up the 111 needed to level Ronaldo’s total – not beyond Haaland but a tough ask.
For reference, he averages 9.6 points-per-game in 2022/23 to date.
Assuming City convert their significant advantage over Bayern and qualify for the semi-finals before getting past the Blades, Haaland would have 13 games at his disposal.
City’s prolific poacher would therefore need to average 8.54 points-per-game to claim the record – very achievable.
Haaland has scored 45 goals in all competitions this seasonCredit: GETTY
Now let’s say Guardiola’s men reach the Champions League final as well as the FA Cup final, that would give Haaland 14 fixtures, which would allow for an average of 7.93 points-per-game to topple Ronaldo.
These scenarios assume Haaland will start every available game which may not be the case – it wouldn’t be that surprising if Julian Alvarez (£4.2m) led the line in the FA Cup semi-final, for example.

But with City chasing a treble, their top scorer is assured the vast majority of minutes if fit.
Ronaldo’s record, which once looked unassailable, is very much under threat. More

Premier League stars could make a lot of money if they joined OnlyFans
The 22-year-old has been on fire for the Cityzens since his summer transfer, as he scored his 45th goal of the campaign against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
And despite earning £375,000 per week, he could be making a lot more money if he set up an account with the adult website.
He could pocket an estimated £3.3million per month due to his Instagram following of nearly 27m.

However, Haaland would not be the top earner in the Premier League.
That crown would go to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian star, with his 58m followers, would be expected to earn an incredible £7.5m per month.
The rest of the top five is made up with Tottenham’s Richarlison in third, Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus in fourth, and Manchester United’s Raphael Varane in fifth.

Despite being the Premier League’s top earner, Kevin De Bruyne would be sixth on the list as he would earn an estimated £2.72m per month.
He is followed by Man United stars Casemiro who would rake in £2.6m per month and Marcus Rashford, who could earn £1.98m.
The final two would be England captain Harry Kane and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, the pair would both earn around £1.8m. More

Interest in Firmino is expected to be high given the attacking options he can offer and that he’s available on a free transfer.
Spanish publication El Nacional have reported that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is aware of the situation around Firmino and may look to convince the 31-year-old to move to the Spanish capital.
Star striker Karim Benzema’s contract is up in the summer although reports suggest an extension has been verbally agreed.
The report adds that there are not many strikers that Madrid can sign because the club don’t trust them or they are too expensive.
