Watch insane moment Gent defenders high five each other SECONDS before Danny Ings scores for West Ham

TWO oblivious Gent players high-fived each other for their defensive work – then just seconds later saw Danny Ings sneak in to score for West Ham. The Belgian side almost got to half-time with their clean sheet still intact against the Hammers in the Europa Conference League first-leg quarter-final tie.

But a bizarre moment between centre-back Kamil Piatkowski and wing-back Alessio Castro-Montes undid their hard work.
Piatkowski and Castro-Montes were high-fiving each other as Vladimir Coufal took the quick throw for West Ham.
The distracted pair were celebrating blocking a previous West Ham attack.
Coufal’s quick throw found Jarrod Bowen deep inside the box.

The 26-year-old swivelled and sent a low ball across the six-yard box which Ings only had to tap home.
It was the striker’s first ever goal in Europe but replays suggested it was preventable from a Gent perspective.
Had Piatkowski and Castro-Montes not been celebrating their previous good work they would likely have snuffed out West Ham’s quick thinking attack.
Gents blushes were spared in the second-half as Hugo Cuypers equalised to leave the game level-pegging before the second leg at the London Stadium next week.

Both sides could have scored a winner during a frantic final 20 minutes with Gent forward Gift Orban hitting the crossbar with a sensational overhead kick.
The 20-year-old Nigerian has been compared to Erling Haaland due to his recent scoring exploits.
Despite neither side finding a second goal, there would be late drama as Piatkowski was sent off for a tackle on Lucas Paqueta as the midfielder charged through on goal.
But a long-winded VAR check saw the decision reversed.
VAR also got involved earlier in the game to chalk off Nayef Aguerd’s strike, leaving fans furious. More

Gordon shrugged his manager off on the touchline, with coach Graeme Jones having to calm the £45million January signing down before veteran Matt Ritchie had a stern word with him following the final whistle.
Speaking ahead of Newcastle’s clash with Aston Villa on Saturday, Howe said: “He [Gordon] felt the need to apologise.
“A part of me understood why he acted like he did but you don’t want to see a player react like that because it looks like he doesn’t have the discipline he needs. If he had an issue, come and see me in private.
“That’s how I felt he should have acted but he’s a young player learning.”

Howe continued: “He accepted he was overly emotional and apologised. We had a 10/15 minute chat and moved on very quickly.
“As his manager, I need to help him. His enthusiasm, aggression and motivation levels are very high. He is fiercely determined to do well and achieve.
“That is one of his hallmarks and strengths, and we want to embrace that – we love that about him – but in certain moments he needs a cool head as well. He just needs some refining around the edges.”
Meanwhile, Howe also revealed Newcastle will compete for “elite” players like Declan Rice if they qualify for the Champions League.

The West Ham star is set to leave the Hammers this summer, with Saudi-owned Toon recently linked with a shock summer move.
Newcastle sit third in the Premier League and are gunning for a first top four finish since 2002/03.
And Howe did not quash talk of making a move for Rice when asked about the England midfielder.
He said: “We want to build the best squad we can. A lot will depend on what competition we are playing in next year as to what we can and can’t do.
“We want elite players because we’ve got an elite squad, so if we do add anyone they’ve got to be better than what we’ve got.” More

And he has returned to parent club Everton for treatment as his future remains uncertain.
The news of his injury came just 24 hours after the former Tottenham man was pictured with a balloon in his mouth surrounded by gas canisters.
And Toffees head coach Dyche has now sent a pointed message to the ex-England international.
Speaking about Alli on Thursday, he said: “You can only guide people with what you think is good for them.

“Eventually players have choices, so we recommend they make good choices.
“But behind that, he’s factually injured. He’s come back with a proper injury that’s going to take some time to get sorted out, so he’ll use that period wisely, I hope.”
When asked about his future, Dyche added: “He is not here. He has an injury which will keep him out for some time.
“Some of the stuff reported – they know what they should and shouldn’t be doing.

“As a manager you cannot control everything in their lives. Should we be following them all day? You can only guide them.
“He has an injury which will take a while to sort out – it will be a number of weeks.”
Alli joined Everton on a free transfer from Spurs in January 2022 – although the Toffees could be made to pay as much as £40million if certain performance benchmarks are met.
The first £10m is due if he makes 20 appearances for the club.
To date, Alli has played 13 games and is yet to register a goal contribution.
His Everton contract runs until the end of the 2023/24 season.
Meanwhile, Dyche’s side are in the middle of a relegation battle as they head into the final eight games of their season.
Everton sit 17th in the Premier League table, above the drop zone by virtue of goal difference.
Next up for the Merseyside outfit is a clash with Fulham at Goodison Park on Saturday. More

Chelsea ‘set for EIGHT-MAN transfer firesale with Mount and Kante’s futures at risk’ as they look to balance books

CHELSEA are set to sell EIGHT players this summer in a massive clearout. The Blues need to balance the books after reporting losses of £121.3m for 2021-22 and £274m across the last two campaigns.

Owner Todd Boehly needs to balance the booksCredit: Getty
Incredibly, those figures do not take into account the West Londoners splashing out more than £600million on players this season.
Struggling Chelsea also look set to miss out on European football next term with the club way down in 11th in the Premier League and needing to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final.
That has prompted a Stamford Bridge panic with pressure mounting on new owner Todd Boehly to cut the losses or risk Financial Fair Play sanctions.
Now the Mirror state eight players are on the chopping block ahead of the transfer window reopening at the end of the season.

That includes midfield stars Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and out-of-contract N’Golo Kante who would leave for free.
Academy graduates Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are also named as part of the culling.

Forwards Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could all be axed, too.
Kante’s deal expires in the summer and he was thought to be close to penning a three-year extension.

However, this latest news could see the 32-year-old – Chelsea’s third-highest earner on £290,000 per week – walk away as a free agent as Arsenal consider a swoop.
Mount, Kovacic, Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek and Aubameyang will all go into the final 12 months of their contracts this summer.
Gallagher and Ziyech, meanwhile, are tied down until 2025.
Manchester United and Liverpool are tracking Mount’s situation while Manchester City and Bayern Munich could battle it out for Kovacic.
Chelsea blocked Gallagher joining Everton for £45m in the summer and Merseyside rivals Liverpool could launch a shock bid this year.
Loftus-Cheek reportedly held talks with AC Milan over a £25m move while Pulisic’s Stamford Bridge spell appears to be nearing its end.
Ziyech was set to go to PSG on loan in January but a deal collapsed – however, he is expected to be let go especially given how many new attackers have joined this season.
Aubameyang’s time at Chelsea has been rather disastrous and the outcasted striker, snubbed by ex-boss Graham Potter, could join Inter Milan or even return to Barcelona.

Chelsea fans in disbelief as new footage shows Wesley Fofana READING seconds before Chelsea concede against Real Madrid

CHELSEA fans have been left in disbelief after footage emerged appearing to show Wesley Fofana READING just before Real Madrid scored. He and a number of other players appeared to switch off and the mistake proved costly for the Blues stars as the Spanish side took a set piece quickly, and Marco Asensio was able to fire in the side’s second goal of the night.

Chelsea went on to lose the first leg of the quarter-final 2-0 and it got even worse as Ben Chilwell was sent off and will miss the second leg.
But fans are even more upset with the result as it appears the second goal could have been avoided if the players were more alert.
In the clip posted on social media, Reece James has his back to the ball and Wesley Fofana appears to be reading a note handed to him by one of the substitutes.
And the club’s supporters have slammed them online.

A second commented: “Is nuts, half of them backs turned, pointing, yeah Cucarella does at least move, Fofana (whose legs the ball goes through ) looks like he’s reading a book ….little things make the difference…it ain’t over but so frustrating to concede soft goals.”

A third pointed out: “They’re aren’t even focused on defending the corner. It’s almost like everyone already gave up.”
A fourth wrote: “Only subs that could have brought that note on are either Gallagher or Mount..that’s on Lampard! Sending on a note before a set piece is defended..shocking!”

After the game, interim boss Frank Lampard admitted his players switched off after going down to ten men.
He said: “The disappointing thing is you give away a set-piece and switch off for the second goal with ten men.
“I don’t think with ten men they carved us open. That was due to the spirit.
“And I think at that part of the game we had our chances, three pretty good chances. Joao [Felix] early, Raheem [Sterling], Mason [Mount] near the end. So there’s some good things, but the result is a reality.
“I just said to the players, special things can happen at Stamford Bridge. They’re a good team, but we have to believe.” More

But now Sport Bild state Diaby’s former club PSG are going to launch an attempt to bring him back to the Parc des Princes.
And the battle for his signature could see Bayer Leverkusen sell the rising star for QUADRUPLE the price they paid for him in 2019.
The German outfit spent £13.2million to land Diaby from boyhood club PSG after he made 34 first-team appearances in 2018-19, scoring four.
The former Crotone loanee has gone from strength to strength with Leverkusen, racking up 48 goals in 162 games, including 13 in 38 this term.

But with Arsenal tracking his progress for the last two years and Newcastle circling, the Bundesliga side managed to keep hold of their ace in the summer and January transfer windows.
However, they are becoming increasingly resigned to losing him at the end of the season – but are desperate to make maximum profit.
SunSport revealed it will take a bid of more than £50m to land Paris-born Diaby, who is under contract until 2025.
And the chance to link up with Kylian Mbappe and possibly Lionel Messi if he renews his contract could be the best offer for the ten-cap senior France international.

A host of Europe’s top clubs are thought to be interested in signing him including Man Utd, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool reportedly pulled out of the race earlier this week as they do not intend to spend such a hefty fee – thought to be around £130million – on one player.
And Scholes feels Man Utd are in the running to secure the teenage superstar’s signature.
Speaking on BT Sport, he said: “I think they [Man Utd] are contenders [to sign him].

“If you went back a couple of years you’d have said no chance. Even back to the start of this season.
“But now I think they have to be. He would look at this team and think this is up and coming for the next few years.”

Yet despite Scholes’ hope that Bellingham will move to Old Trafford, he feels 14-time European champions Real Madrid will ultimately come out on top.
