And they set the tone for that Champions League campaign in the group stage when they won five and drew one of their six matches.
One of those came at home to Dynamo Kyiv in a comfortable 4-0 victory.
In the match, left-back Evra produced a remarkable piece of skill when marauding down the wing.
The Frenchman, who spent eight years at Old Trafford between 2006 and 2014, burst forward and laid the ball off to Nani.

He then carried on his run and received the one-two, before audaciously taking it on the turn and popping it through the legs of Pape Diakhate.
After Evra’s sensational skill, he still had the composure to lay it into Carlos Tevez, but the Man Utd striker’s shot was saved by Oleksandr Shovkovskiy.
However, Evra did not forget the ludicrous skill and in 2021 revealed what Diakhate said to him after being bamboozled.
Sharing the clip, Evra tweeted: “I used to meg [nutmeg] people just for fun 🤩.

“At the end of the game, that defender said: ‘Evra, you can’t do that to me, I’ve got kids’ 😅😂🔥🙏🏽.”
Evra played 379 games for Man Utd, winning five Premier League titles, the Champions League and three League Cups.
He then moved to Juventus and claimed two Serie A titles, before brief spells at Marseille and West Ham brought the curtain down on his career as he retired in 2019.
Evra also holds a remarkable record of having reached FIVE Champions League finals – four of which he lost.
He was a part of the 2004 Monaco side that lost 3-0 to Jose Mourinho’s Porto.
He then featured in both the 2009 and 2011 finals in which Barcelona defeated Man Utd.
And in 2015 he succumbed to Barcelona for a third time as Juventus went down 3-1 in Berlin. More

Chelsea ‘ready to make Gavi one of Premier League’s highest earners’ after positive transfer talks with Barcelona star

Chelsea reportedly want to sign Barcelona star GaviCredit: Reuters
Gavi, 18, is one of the most sought-after talents in Europe after breaking into the Catalonian giants’ first team.
Chelsea are willing to do whatever it takes to get him to Stamford Bridge, with AS claiming that the club will “break the bank” to sign him.
The outlet also suggested that the player’s representatives have been in talks with the London club and co-owner Todd Boehly and that it has yielded positive results.
The report does say that Gavi has always preferred the idea of staying at Barcelona, which means the Blues will have to change his mind.

He only recently signed a new contract at the Nou Camp, keeping him at the club until 2026.
However, the Catalan giants are unable to register him as a first-team player due to financial problems.
If the issue is not resolved then the midfielder could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season as his contract will be void.
For Gavi to stay at the club, he would have to either reduce his wage demands or players will have to be sold to make room in the wage budget.

Jurgen Klopp uses amazing Ferrari analogy to explain why Liverpool are not signing Jude Bellingham

JURGEN KLOPP has compared Liverpool’s failure to sign Jude Bellingham to a child not getting a Ferrari at Christmas. The Reds had been interested in signing the England international but as Klopp argued, a move proved to be too expensive.

Liverpool are keen to add to their midfield options this summer and Bellingham, 19, would have been an ideal option.
However, the club will have to move on to new targets.
Klopp, 55, was asked about the interest in the Borussia Dortmund star, and at first refused to discuss the speculation.
He said: “If I don’t speak about players we sign and don’t sign, why would I now speak about this kind of speculation? Really nothing to say about it.

“It’s not about Jude Bellingham now, my answer now. Definitely not.”
The German was pressed on the matter and he gave in to elaborate on the club’s position.
He compared the potential transfer to a child asking for a Ferrari for Christmas, something that would not be “a good idea”.
He added: “I never understood why we constantly talk about things we theoretically cannot have.

“We cannot have six players in the summer, where everyone is £100 million, for example. That’s kind of clear.
“You have to realise what you can do and then work with that.
“We are not children, if you ask a five-year-old what they want for Christmas and they tell you I want to have ‘a Ferrari’, you wouldn’t say that’s a good idea.
“It’s too expensive and, anyway, you cannot drive it.
“That’s how it is. If this kid is then unhappy his whole life because he cannot get a Ferrari it would be a really sad life.
“It’s just what can you do, and you work with that, nothing else to say about it.
“It’s always how I worked. What we need and want, we try absolutely everything to get it.
“But there are moments you have to accept that this or that is not possible for us, and you step aside and do different stuff.”
Dortmund are believed to have set an asking price of £130million for Bellingham.

Liverpool could now turn to cheaper targets such as Mason Mount, Youri Tielemans, who is available on a free transfer, and Bayern Munich star Gravenberch.
That is a bonus for the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea, both of whom hold a long-term interest in Bellingham. More

And Malouda, 42, is keen to see the French international in the Premier League.
He revealed that he has been trying for a “very long time” to convince Mbappe, 24, that Chelsea should be the club he joins.
Malouda told ICE 36: “I’ve been campaigning for him to join Chelsea for a very long time!
“So far, I’ve failed but I will keep trying.

“Hopefully, we will see him in the Premier League because that is the most competitive league in the world – it would be great to see him here.
“There are not that many teams that can give him what he wants and there are not that many teams that can build their team around him.
“He is a leader, he’s just been appointed the captain of the French national team and he will be looking for a leadership role at his next club, which can create problems.”
Chelsea have spent a fortune since last summer on new players but have seen very little success, with the club sitting in 11th place in the Premier League.

Malouda was in turn asked if Blues co-owner Todd Boehly could be preparing a move for Mbappe.
He replied: “I think Boehly and everyone in football already knows about Kylian.
“Any owner would have Mbappe on his list, but it’s really about the right connection on a human level.
“We can talk about the millions he would cost in transfer fees or wages, but it’s always the human relationship that has the biggest impact on the decision of any player.”
Despite Mbappe being linked with an exit from the Parc des Princes, the Ligue 1 giants are determined to keep hold of their star player.
And the forward has recently admitted that he is determined to win the Champions League with the club.
He said: “The next step? Winning the Champions League. I have already made a final, semi-final, quarter-final, round of 16 … I have done everything but win.
“That’s all I need. Where [I want to do it]? In Paris. I’m a Parisian and under contract. So it’s PSG.” More

Former Premier League star admits ploughing Land Rover into Co-op store while 3 times over the drink-drive limit

A FORMER Premier League star mounted the pavement and ploughed into a Co-op while three times over the drink-drive limit.Ex-Sunderland striker Danny Graham was driving his Land Rover through the exclusive Wynyard Estate in County Durham when the horror unfolded.

Graham, 37, mounted the kerb before smashing the flash motor into the village Co-op store.
Shocking pictures showed the 4×4 wedged in the front of the shop, which suffered substantial damage.
Graham, who also had stints at Middlesbrough, Watford, Swansea and Blackburn Rovers, today admitted drink-driving.
He has now been banned from driving for two years and given a 12-month community order in which he must carry out 180 hours unpaid work.

Graham was also handed a 90-day alcohol ban, which will be monitored by a tag that can detect even a “small glass of sherry”.
Chairman of the bench Nigel Guerin warned him he would be jailed if he flouted the driving ban, saying: “You are a well-known person and a lot of people in Wynyard will know you.
“If you get behind the wheel of a car I’m sure someone will get in touch with the police.”
Teesside Magistrates’ Court was told the forward was breathalysed at hospital after the crash in November last year.

He was found to have 230mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 80mg.
The shop had to close for five days and stock worth more than £5,000 was damaged – with a total loss of around £32,000.
Michael Lawson, prosecuting, said: “Luckily, no-one was injured as a result of this collision.”
The court was told Graham had never been arrested before the “unwise incident”.
Veteran striker Graham began his playing career at Middlesbrough in 2004 where he scored one goal in 15 appearances for the club.
After spells on loan at Leeds United, Darlington, Derby County and Blackpool, he signed with Carlisle in 2007.
He spent two years at the club and scored 29 goals before moving to Watford.
Graham left the club for then-Premier League side Swansea in 2011 and made 54 appearances before his three-year stint at Sunderland.
He left the Black Cats in 2016 and spent four years with Blackburn Rovers where he netted 45 goals in 158 appearances.

Marcel Sabitzer & Ruben Dias feature in the best Dream Team XI of Game Week 29

A ROUND of applause for Alistair Woodward, Dream Team’s outright most prosperous gaffer of Game Week 29.The Notts County supporters racked up 124 points this past week thanks to a host of Manchester-based players.
Let’s take a closer look at how he topped the pile…
Harry Kane will have to work on his Mancunian accentCredit: DREAM TEAM
Ederson (£4.8m), Nathan Ake (£4.9m) and Ruben Dias (£6.6m) all registered eight points each against Bayern Munich having missed out against Southampton because of Sekou Mara’s (£1.5m) consolation goal.
Tuesday night’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Etihad was just the second time the Bundesliga champions have failed to score in a game this season – an indication that it’s a good time to back Manchester City defenders.
Their Portuguese centre-back has been in particularly great form of late and now finds himself eighth in the rankings among assets in his position.
Dias’ quality comes at a price though, at £6.6m he’s far by and away the most-expensive defender in the game.
Lisandro Martinez (£4.7m) is now joint-second among defenders having taken Everton for eight points, despite taking a minus one hit at home to Sevilla on Thursday night.
However, the World Cup winner’s hopes of maintaining the silver medal were dealt a blow when he was carried off the pitch (by opposition players for some reason) with what could be a significant injury.
    A commanding presenceCredit: GETTY
Alistair has correctly identified that Jack Grealish (£4.7m) is currently the best City midfielder to accompany Kevin De Bruyne (£8.1m).
    Most read in Football
Now providing regular goals and assists, the England international was the joint-best performer in his position this week having registered 18 points.
Grealish has now amassed 61 points across the last eight Game Weeks – Alistair is among the 8.4% of gaffers who have benefited from this fruitful spree.
As for KDB, he notched ten points to become just the second double centurion midfielder this term.
Bruno Fernandes (£6.4m) was the first and he moved onto 209 overall thanks to a seven-point haul in Game Week 29.
Alistair’s ace up the sleeve was undoubtedly Marcel Sabitzer (£3m) – a man who appears in just 0.2% of teams!
The Austrian delivered by far his best performance in a Manchester United shirt yet when he bagged a brace against Sevilla in midweek.
Limited in some technical aspects, the loanee 29-year-old is a good runner and shooter – attributes he used to great effect against the La Liga outfit to bank 18 points.
    An ownership of just 0.2%
Up front, it’s a familiar trio and quite possibly the most-popular combination in the game currently.
Although that may change now Marcus Rashford (£7.1m) is likely to miss some games (how many is not yet known) having picked up an injury – he added five points to his tally in Game Week 29.
Harry Kane (£8.5m) scored his 25th goal of the season last weekend against Brighton – a tally that would be mightily impressive if it wasn’t for Erling Haaland’s (£9.6m) freakish figure of 45 – and he picked up the Star Man award too for lovely 13-point haul against difficult opposition.
    Read More on The Sun
Man City’s No9 now has 366 points to his name after taking Southampton and Bayern for 22, which would be the biggest Game Week haul of the campaign for the vast majority of players but is almost par for the course for the Norwegian, such is his pedigree.
Great work, Alistair, that Sabizter shout has to go down as one of the great masterstrokes of the season! More

The Reds have been linked with Jude Bellingham for several transfer windows.
But reports this week claim they have pulled out of the race for the England international, 19.

The Dutch youngster only joined Bayern from Ajax last summer for £16million.
But he has started just four games in all competitions this season and could already be looking elsewhere for game time.
Liverpool are said to have sought discussions with Gravenberch’s management ahead of a move for the Amsterdam-born star.
Speaking recently to Ajax Showtime about his first season with the German champions, he said: “Ideally, I would like to be successful at Bayern.
“But if that doesn’t work out and I don’t get a chance, then I might have to look around.
“At the moment I’m not thinking about it and I hope that I can change my situation at Bayern by training and playing well.”
He went on to add: “For me, this season is just the first season where I’ve been struggling and not being able to play much. As a player, you also get better through such experiences.
“I’m still very young and I’m glad I’m experiencing something like this now and not later in my career.”
Alongside his promising club career, Gravenberch has already been capped 11 times by the Netherlands.
However, he did not make Louis van Gaal’s squad for the 2022 World Cup.

How Man United could line up against Brighton
Marcus Rashford could miss the match after the club confirmed he will be out for a “few games” following an injury during the win over Everton.
This means that Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag could give a chance to Anthony Martial to impress on the left wing.
The French attacker is capable of playing across the frontline and could fill in for the England international if he is unable to feature.
Alternatively, exciting prospect Alejandro Garnacho would also be able to deputise off the left-hand side.
