Lukaku set to return to Chelsea ‘against his will’ with Inter Milan ‘unable and unwilling to finance another transfer’

ROMELU LUKAKU will reportedly have to reluctantly return to Chelsea at the end of his Inter Milan loan despite wanting to stay in Italy. The 29-year-old striker helped the Serie A giants to title glory in 2021 before heading back to the Blues in a £98.5m move.

But his second stint at Chelsea failed to turn into the dream he envisioned and he returned to Inter on loan last summer.
However, the Belgian striker has endured a frustrating campaign on the injury front and has scored just seven goals in 24 games.
Even though he has endured those difficulties, he wants to remain with Inter, but he appears to be set for disappointment, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
They claim that Lukaku will return to West London “against his will” as his loan club is not able to afford the potential cost of another move.

They recently announced losses of £694m over the past decade along with an annual operating loss of around £133m.
That means that chiefs will be forced into trying to make savings this summer along with the prospect that they may miss out on qualification for the Champions League and the financial rewards that would bring.
This update states that they feel they have not received enough in return from Lukaku this term to justify the £6.9m loan fee plus the cost of covering a significant part of his £325,000-a-week wages.
And now Inter are planning ahead for a future without the ex-Everton and Manchester United man in attack.

The report also stresses that Lukaku wants to stay so that he is prepared to take a wage cut.
He has also scored some vital goals in recent weeks, especially in the Champions League, as he netted the winner against Porto in the last-16 as well as getting one in last week’s 2-0 first-leg quarter final win over Benfica.
But now it seems that he will have to go on a red-hot streak until the end of the season in order to try and change Inter’s minds.
It also leaves Chelsea with a potential dilemma as they will need to balance the books after Todd Boehly’s huge outlay on new signings.
And the striker will no doubt have been viewed as one of the players that the club could sell in order to recoup funds. More

Rafael Benitez reveals he snubbed multiple Premier League clubs but wants to return to English football

RAFAEL BENITEZ has already snubbed offers from Premier League clubs. But despite so far turning teams down, the Spaniard is eager to work at another top-flight England side.

Benitez, 63, has been out of work since being sacked by Everton in January 2022.
But he appears to be getting the itch to return to the game.
Speaking to the Telegraph, the former Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle manager revealed: “I have had several possibilities this season.
“But the conditions that I think are necessary were not there and I preferred to wait for another option.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
“I have also had proposals from outside, but our preference has always been the Premier League.”
After leaving Liverpool in 2010, Benitez had a short stint in charge of then-European champions Inter Milan.
Following nearly two years out of the game he returned to the Premier League with Chelsea, winning the Europa League.
On his West London stint, he added: “It’s not lost on anyone that [Roman] Abramovich’s Chelsea were the strongest team in the Premier League when I arrived at Liverpool.

“We competed with them and beat them in the Champions League several times, those games had a lot of tension and it’s not easy for a fan to forget the emotional part.
“Fortunately, we more than fulfilled our objectives of qualifying directly for the Champions League and, on top of that we also won the Europa League. I think everyone now sees it as a success.”
Benitez went on to manage Napoli and Real Madrid, before returning to England with Newcastle.
After a tumultuous three-year stint at St James’ Park that included relegation and a promotion, the experienced boss walked away at the end of his contract.
A move to the Chinese Super League with Dalian Professional in 2019 appeared to signal the end for Benitez in the English top flight.
But he returned in 2021 for an unpopular six-month stint with Everton.
Benitez was recently in talks with Leicester before the Foxes appointed Dean Smith.
While Leeds were also believed to be interested after parting with Jesse Marsch.

Glazers ‘plan to own Man Utd for another DECADE in huge takeover blow’ with fans raging

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have been left raging as the Glazers reportedly plan on staying in charge for another DECADE.In a fresh takeover blow, the Red Devils have received a minority investment offer from American group Carlyle.

Fans have reacted angrily to the news on social mediaCredit: AFP
Current suitors Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani are yet to meet the Glazers’ £6billion price-tag for a full buyout.
And the current United owners are now considering a minority option, meaning they will retain control at Old Trafford.
ESPN claims the Glazers are now warming strongly to the idea of staying put.
They reckon they can eventually double United’s valuation with fresh outside investment.

And the Glazers plan on sticking around for at least 10 more years.
Fans were left fuming on Twitter as they reacted to the news, with one saying: “If the Glazers dare to stay after all of this, there will be protests like never seen before.”
Another declared: “Full sale only! This is a pivotal moment in our history. The Glazers need to go.”
One noted: “United currently owe £969.6m through a combo of gross debt, bank borrowings and outstanding transfer fees.

“A reminder that United were debt free before the Glazers took over in 2005. Enough is enough.”
Another added: “They should leave United, we are tired of them.”
It’s the latest twist in a crazy takeover saga which has seen bids of £5bn come in from Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim.
The duo’s offer came as the deadline for bids was extended by 48 hours in farcical scenes.
And United announced last week that there was to be a THIRD round of bidding until the end of the month.
Racliffe and Sheikh Jassim are believed to be the only willing participants left for a full takeover.
But their dreams could be dashed following the Glazers’ talks with Carlyle over a minority stake.
Former United star Gary Neville blasted the links, saying: “No thank you! This doesn’t work for United!
“The Glazer PR machine keeps leaking this type of minority partnership out there bi-weekly whilst stressing it’s a confidential process. Full Sale Only.” More

Alli was pictured with a balloon in his mouth surrounded by gas canisters
Alli has returned to parent club Everton and undergone surgery on a hip injury that has ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.
His injury brought to a close a torrid short spell with Besiktas, but now Cebi has talked up the possibility of him signing a permanent deal with the club.
That is despite the forward hitting headlines for the wrong reasons after he was pictured with a balloon in his mouth surrounded by gas canisters.
The Mail are reporting that Besiktas president Cebi is considering a move for Alli if he “leaves Everton for free” at the end of the season.

The ex-Spurs man still has 12 months left on his Toffees contract, but it remains to be seen whether the Premier League club want to keep him.
And Everton manager Sean Dyche remained coy on Alli when asked about him in the wake of the balloon picture emerging on social media.

He said: “You can only guide people with what you think is good for them.
“Eventually players have choices, so we recommend they make good choices.

“But behind that, he’s factually injured. He’s come back with a proper injury that’s going to take some time to get sorted out, so he’ll use that period wisely, I hope.”
When asked about his future, Dyche added: “He is not here. He has an injury which will keep him out for some time.
“Some of the stuff reported – they know what they should and shouldn’t be doing.
“As a manager you cannot control everything in their lives. Should we be following them all day? You can only guide them.
“He has an injury which will take a while to sort out – it will be a number of weeks.”
Alli, who is dating model Cindy Kimberly, joined Everton on a free transfer from Spurs in January 2022 – although the Toffees could be made to pay as much as £40million if certain performance benchmarks are met.
The first £10m is due if he makes 20 appearances for the club.
To date, Alli has played 13 games and is yet to register a goal contribution.

The 24-year-old Alexander-Arnold has come under fire this term for his defensive frailties at right-back, with Lineker previously leading calls for him to be deployed in midfield.
And after Jurgen Klopp opted to play him further forward yesterday, the England international showed everybody what he is capable of.
Alexander-Arnold produced two assists in the rout and also enjoyed 140 touches of the ball as he played a key role in the demolition job at Elland Road.
And Lineker once again took to Twitter to say: “Said it for years: I’d love to see @TrentAA play in midfield regularly.

“It’s the position he grew up playing. Play to your strengths.”
Alexander-Arnold progressed through Liverpool’s academy as a midfielder before switching to full-back after making the breakthrough into the first-team.
Despite heavy criticism from pundits and supporters, Klopp has long persevered with playing him in that position as the ace has rewarded that faith by helping the Reds to Champions League, Premier League, Fifa Club World Cup, FA Cup and League Cup success over recent years.
And his German coach was full of praise for his performance on Monday.

Klopp said: “He won the ball back for the first goal from that position as well, stepping really out there – it was good. Yeah, impressive.
“I think also the highlight was then the last pass [his assist for Nunez], but he had a few more from that position.
“Wherever Trent is [on the pitch] he can be decisive with his passes, he was very often for us, that’s how it is, tonight was a good game, you could see that he enjoyed it.” More

But reports on Monday revealed Tottenham are also eyeing up the ex-Barcelona boss.
And his arrival could make for some interesting transfer business for the Lilywhites.
Enrique only left his role with the Spain national team four months ago following their last-16 exit at the World Cup.
As a result, he will still have a close relationship with many of the players he worked with.

Arsenal stars hit with furious fan backlash after posting video of stars ‘blanking’ young mascot

ARSENAL stars have been slammed after appearing to ignore a young mascot as they signed her shirt. The Gunners’ title hopes suffered a major blow as they were held to a 2-2 draw at West Ham on Sunday.
Arsenal shared a clip of their players signing a shirt for their mascot at West Ham on SundayCredit: Twitter
Fans were quick to criticise it as the players barely acknowledged the youngsterCredit: Twitter

Mikel Arteta’s side were led out on to the pitch at the London Stadium by a young girl after she was picked to be their mascot for the day.
But their was a fierce backlash online after footage showed her meeting all of her heroes when they arrived at the ground.
Arsenal’s cameras were on hand to capture the moment as she stood outside the dressing-room holding a jersey while the players arrived.
Each member of Arteta’s team stopped to sign the shirt, but it appeared that they hardly said a word to the young Gooner and quickly moved on.

Arsenal shared the clip before kick-off against the Hammers, captioning it with: “Making memories with our mascot.”
However, eagle-eyed viewers of the video were quick to hit at the players for hardly interacting or even acknowledging the kid.
Sun Sport columnist and Talk TV host Piers Morgan tweeted: “Come on guys, at least one of you say hello to her?!!”
“Somebody please say hello to the poor girl,” blasted one.
    Most read in Football
Another said: “Look how much she loves Martin Odegaard – one smile and hello from him would have made her year!”
A fellow fan said: “Interaction with the girl makes memories not just signing a shirt.”
Another asked: “Not a single player fancy saying hello to her?”
“Look how much hope and adoration she has in her face and how much just a smile, nod and/or hello would have made her day,” wrote a fellow angry supporter.
“Absolutely blanked the poor kid,” commented another viewer of the clip.
Another said: “Sad not one player even looks at the girl or acknowledges her.”
While another tweeted: “Memories of being blanked by your heroes.”
As another fumed: “Obviously too much of a stretch to say. ‘Hi thanks for being our mascot today.’”
The girl’s father has since taken to Twitter to insist she had a great afternoon, writing: “My daughter had a lovely time as mascot for Arsenal. There was only a small window to meet the players and she enjoyed it very much.
“[Martin] Odegaard is her favourite player so to hold his hand onto the pitch was very special.”
However, after the viral clip sparked much debate, TalkSport host and avid Arsenal fan Laura Woods admitted that it was a bad look.

But she also moved to add some more context to the debate after speaking with the club.
She said on talkSPORT Breakfast: “I agree, it doesn’t take a lot just to acknowledge somebody with a smile. I think that video is quite symptomatic of football and footballers now.”
Laura Woods has discussed the incident on TalkSPORT this morningCredit: Getty
Woods then added: “To add a little bit of context, I actually messaged the club because I think they thought ‘they all stopped and signed the shirt this is great’.
“Maybe that in itself is the problem that there’s now a disconnect between what you’re meant to do for those kinds of mascots.
“The club did say it’s part of a matchday experience so that’s not the only interaction she had with the players.
“She was a mascot, she went out on the pitch with them, she would have been on the pitch with them during warm-ups.
“I think there’s a lot of things we don’t see, but that’s not excusing that video because I watched it a couple of times over and in my head thought ‘oh wait was it cut off afterwards, maybe they did [acknowledge her]’ and I went back and watched it and they didn’t.
“Maybe it’s quite a good lesson, the reaction of the normal fans. It’s a pre-match routine and I get that, you’re in your bubble, but it doesn’t really take long just to make eye contact.
“I watched that little girl and the way she’s waiting for eye contact or any sort of acknowledgement.
“The Young Gunners get these incredible experiences so I’m hoping somewhere else along the line she had a great day and got that interaction but in that moment, what does it take to just say hi?”
Fellow talkSPORT host Ally McCoist then added: “I thought it was shocking, I’ve been saying for a while now the gap between a footballer and the fan is bigger than it’s ever been.
“That was agony watching that, I was watching it thinking someone must give her a pat on the head or something, but nothing.”
Meanwhile, the youngster was not the only one looking for autographs from the Premier League leaders.
West Ham’s Declan Rice was spotted getting Odegaard’s signature after the game.

England star Rice loves collecting jerseys from his biggest rivals, and boasts an incredible collection featuring the likes of Mason Mount, Harry Kane and Jack Grealish.
But fans were all saying the same thing as they believe that the interaction with Odegaard was a clear sign that Rice is going to join them this summer. More

Only Erling Haaland has earned more Dream Team points than Ollie Watkins among forwards since Game Week 21

THE job Unai Emery has done at Aston Villa really can’t be underestimated. When Steven Gerrard was dismissed back in October, the club were 17th in the Premier League – they’re now sixth.
The ex-Villarreal coach has improved the Villains from back to front but his biggest success story has to be the reinvention of Ollie Watkins (£6.1m).
Previously deployed on the right wing or as one half of a strike partnership, the 27-year-old is now leading the line solo, as he did successfully at Brentford, with immense results.
A man in the form of his life
And Watkins produced his best performance of the campaign this past Saturday when he dismantled a usually resolute Newcastle defence.
Eddie Howe’s side have conceded the fewest goals in the top flight this season but Fabian Schar (£3.8m) and Sven Botman (£3.1m) were run ragged by Villa’s No11, who assisted the hosts opener before scoring two of his own in a 3-0 win.
It wasn’t just the direct goal contributions that reflected well on Watkins but the nature of his overall performance too.
His knock down for Jacob Ramsey (£2.3m) was high class and his penetrating runs in behind Newcastle’s back four made him a persistent threat as the visitors wilted in the Midlands.
Naturally, Watkins claimed the Star Man award for his masterclass and with it, 20 Dream Team points, his biggest single-game haul of 2022/23.
He’s also the joint-best performer of Game Week 30 so far, level with Diogo Jota (£3.9m) who took Leeds for 20 points on Monday night.

Watkins has been one of the league’s most in-form players since the mid-season break for the World Cup in Qatar, as best evidenced by his Dream Team returns.
In fact, only Erling Haaland has produced more points among forwards across the last nine Game Weeks.
DREAM TEAM POINTS SINCE GAME WEEK 21:

    Erling Haaland – 128
    OLLIE WATKINS – 95
    Marcus Rashford – 84
    Gabriel Martinelli – 81
    Mohamed Salah – 76
    Harry Kane – 64

These numbers are particularly impressive considering Villa have not had additional European fixtures to bolster their schedule.
That seems likely to change next season though as Emery’s men look set to qualify for either the Europa League or the Europa Conference League.
Dream Team bosses should focus on the task in hand but it’s difficult not to think about Watkins’ starting price for 2023/24 already.
Emery is doing a fantastic job at Villa
The ex-Brentford striker has scored 15 goals and provided seven assists in all competitions this season with 11 of those goals coming in his last 12 games!
At the time of writing, he appears in just 2.5% of teams and that wise minority of gaffers will be hopeful of more points in Game Week 31 when Watkins takes on Brentford and Fulham, two teams increasingly “on the beach”. More
