Man Utd face battle to keep hold of young star for crunch run-in as he’s called up to international duty

MANCHESTER UNITED are facing a battle to keep a hold of Alejandro Garnacho for their season run-in. This is because Argentina have called him up for the Under 20 World Cup.

Garnacho has been named in his nation’s squad to take part in the tournament despite its schedule clashing with Man Utd’s season run-in.
The competition is set to commence on May 20, meaning Garnacho would miss the final two Premier League games of the season and the finals of the FA Cup and Europa League should they make them.
According to Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, United “do not want to give up” the winger for their last few games of the season.
Meanwhile, he reports the Argentine Federation and Under 20 coach Javier Mascherano are doing “everything possible” to include Garnacho in the squad.

Argentina had originally failed to qualify for the tournament, but after Fifa stripped Indonesia of hosting rights due to their opposition to Israel’s participation, the South Americans have stepped in to host.
Fifa rules on this club vs country matter state: “Clubs are obliged to release their registered players to the representative teams of the country for which the player is eligible to play on the basis of hisnationality if they are called up by the association concerned.
“Any agreement between a player and a club to the contrary is prohibited.”
However, outside of specified international windows, it is not compulsory for a club to release a player.

Reacting to the news, some United fans were left worried about their chances for the rest of the season, with one saying: “We want him for the finals noooo (if we reach it of course lol)”
A second said: “Hope he don’t go.”
A third typed: “If we had more depth he could go but we are at a crucial stage of the season and Garnacho is important to us specifically since we don’t have that much depth!”
Garnacho hinted he was nearing a return to action after posting a photo of himself wearing pink boots.
The 18-year-old has scored four goals and added five assists since breaking into the United first team this season.
Garancho has also made four appearances for the Argentine U20 side, with Barcelona legend Mascherano giving him high praise.
Speaking about the teen last June, Mascherano said: “Alejandro is a great player, with a lot of potential to continue growing.
“It is clear that by playing in the club he plays for, and above all the importance his club gives him for the future, will depend on him for what he is capable of.”

Meanwhile, fellow defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is expected to be out for the rest of the season with a knee issue.

However, following reports which suggested Bellingham could now STAY at Borussia Dortmund, fans are once again speculating Bellingham’s next club could be announced soon.
It comes after former Swindon, Middlesbrough and Barnsley ace Jan Age Fjørtoft hinted at some “significant news” set to come out of Germany.
He tweeted: “I understand that there will be significant news coming out of German football in the coming days.”
And fans are convinced Fjørtoft is in fact referencing news regarding the future of Bellingham.

One fan said: “We all know that it is confirmation of Jude Bellingham‘s transfer to Manchester City in the summer.”
A second speculated: “Bellingham to Anfield”, with a third adding: “Bellingham to Real Madrid, Here We Go.”

Although a fifth fan suggested: “Bellingham staying at Dortmund.”

However, other fans believe the news could even relate to recently appointed Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel.
One fan said: “Tuchel and Bayern part ways [with] mutual agreement 🤝🏽🙄.”
A second wrote: “Tuchel to get sacked by Bayern and reappointed Chelsea manager? (…we can dream).”
Despite a less-than-ideal start for the ex-Chelsea manager, which has seen Bayern win just one of the five games he has been in charge, leaving the German champions just yet seems highly unlikely.
Tuchel’s side are back in action in the Champions League this evening and are faced with the monumental task of trying to overcome a three-goal deficit against Pep Guardiola’s Man City. More

Tottenham and Brighton hit with biggest Premier League fines of the season after De Zerbi and Stellini bust-up

TOTTENHAM and Brighton have been fined £100,000 each following the touchline brawl between the two benches in the recent Premier League game. The ill-tempered match, that saw interim Spurs boss Cristian Stellini and Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi clash before kick-off, flared up in the second half with a mass confrontation between staff from both dugouts.

That led to Stellini, who appeared an innocent bystander, and De Zerbi being sent to the stands and both clubs have now been fined by the Football Association.
An FA statement read: “Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion have been fined £100,000 each for a mass confrontation that occurred during their Premier League match on Saturday 8 April.
“Both clubs admitted they failed to ensure their benches conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and did not behave in a way which is proper during the 58th minute.
“An independent regulatory commission imposed their fines following a subsequent hearing.”

The £100,000 punishments are the biggest fines dished out to Premier League clubs this season.
The previous highest is understood to be the £75,000 for Manchester City for failing to ensure their players behaved in an orderly fashion at Arsenal in February.
Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Brighton was shrouded in controversy as Brighton had two goals disallowed and two strong penalty appeals waved away.
Fans were left in disbelief that Karou Mitoma’s effort was ruled out, claiming the ball had in fact hit him on the shoulder.

The Seagulls also felt they should have been given a penalty when Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg appeared to trip Mitoma in the box.
And the red cards for the gaffers were brandished following a melee between the two dugouts after Alexis Mac Allister’s strike was disallowed.
PGMOL chief Howard Webb had to apologise for the errors after the game.
A seething Lewis Dunk did not hold back at VAR in his post-match interview.
The Brighton centre-back dropped an F-bomb at the start of the chat, before quickly apologising.
    But his rant continued.
He fumed: “There’s no point having VAR in the game if you’re not going to make big decisions like that.”
Webb also apoogised to the Seagulls when they had a perfectly legitimate goal chalked off for offside in the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.
They were also unhappy this weekend when Christian Pulisic escaped punishment for an apparent handball in the Chelsea penalty area – although De Zerbi’s side did come back to in 2-1. More

Everything ‘idiot’ Boehly has done at ‘Mickey Mouse’ club Chelsea was a mistake including Lampard, slams Jamie O’Hara

CHELSEA owner Todd Boehly’s “Micky Mouse” decisions have all been a “mistake” this season, claims Jamie O’Hara.Former Tottenham ace O’Hara put Boehly on full blast after the Blues crashed out of the Champions League with a 4-0 aggregate loss to Real Madrid.

That means the West Londoners’ interim manager Frank Lampard has lost all four of his matches ever since his surprise return to Stamford Bridge to replace Graham Potter.
O’Hara lashed out at Chelsea’s owner as he called him “a bit of an idiot” and claims everything he did was wrong.
That includes the “shocking” appointment of Lampard as he’s “too low on confidence” and all the players are “totally lost” under his coaching.
O’Hara told Grosvenor Sport: “Everything Todd Boehly has done so far has been a mistake.
    Read More on Chelsea
“The recruitment has been shocking; he brought in Graham Potter and all his backroom staff which turned out to be a nightmare, and now they haven’t won a game yet under Lampard – so you’d have to say that’s probably another mistake appointing him.
“In my opinion, Todd Boehly’s a bit of an idiot, and he’s thrown Frank a bone to ‘come and bring Chelsea back’, but Frank’s too low on confidence – he has lost all eight of his games as a manager in 2023!
“It’s Micky Mouse stuff what has happened at that football club recently; they’ve got a billionaire owner in Boehly, but you could have all the money in the world and not have a clue how to run a football club.
“It’s been a joke – Boehly has actually buried the mentality of that football team, and the DNA of Chelsea is completely lost at the moment. They need to find it again, and quickly.

“I don’t know where his [Lampard’s] career goes from here. I think he’s a bit lost for ideas; he needs to go away and work on his managerial skills and game.
“I look at Chelsea and they just look totally lost under him; the players don’t know what they’re doing.
“There’s no point in doing another managerial change now, unless that manager is guaranteed to be there at the start of next season.
“I don’t know who the manager is that they’re trying to get, but he’d want to bring in his own people and own staff and have a fresh start. They wouldn’t want to come into this – it’s a poisoned chalice right now.” More
