Raheem Sterling’s Chelsea fate revealed as flops face huge wage cuts with Boehly set to split dressing room

RAHEEM STERLING is one of the Chelsea players who will NOT lose a penny in Todd Boehly’s cost-cutting plans.SunSport revealed yesterday the Blues face problems in the dressing room as the co-owner slashes wages following the club’s Champions League exit.

But the move does not apply to everyone in the squad.
Sterling signed for Chelsea last July but BEFORE American Boehly insisted on all new contracts containing a 30 per cent penalty clause.
The measure was later put in place by the club to ease the pain of failing to qualify for the lucrative competition.
But Sterling and at least one other new player — believed to be defender Kalidou Koulibaly — will avoid taking a heavy financial hit as a result of the Blues’ poor season.

Chelsea lost their Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday and are 17 points adrift of the top four in the Prem, necessary to play in next season’s tournament.
They look set to play their first season with no European football since 2016, triggering a huge drop in revenue.
The incoming pay cuts are causing significant unrest in the dressing room — with some paying the price for failure in Europe and others not.
Sterling’s contract only underlines the current confusion at Stamford Bridge, while Boehly battles to build a sustainable long-term business model.

The England winger was the first major signing under the new regime which took over from Russian Roman Abramovich last May.Sterling joined on July 14 for £47.5million from Manchester City as a marquee transfer on a five-year deal.
Koulibaly came a day later on a four-year contract for £35m. Wesley Fofana, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Marc Cucurella and Carney Chukwuemeka were signed later.
Boehly then brought in a further six senior first-team players in January during a record spend that added up to around £600m for the season.
The wage bill is £300m per year. Boehly is hoping to shave £100m off that with his salary sacrifice plans.
And the American is also looking to offload a raft of players this summer to reshape the massive squad and to stay within the rules on Financial Fair Play.
Now the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech,  Aubameyang, Mason Mount, keepers Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy and even Kai Havertz could be sold to help balance the books.

Major injury blow for Arsenal with fears Saliba is out for the season and will miss title race

But Gunners boss Mikel Arteta admitted: “He is not progressing as quick as we hoped — it’s a bit delicate.
“There is some improvement but he is not at the level needed to throw him onto the pitch  to compete in this league.”
Asked if the injury could sideline Saliba until next season, Arteta added: “I don’t know. Probably next week we are going to have more certainty.”
Saliba, 22, has been a defensive rock alongside Gabriel as Arsenal chase a first title since 2004.

He started every Prem game before being forced off during last month’s Europa League shootout defeat to Sporting Lisbon.
But he has missed the last four matches,  including the 2-2 draws at Liverpool and West Ham when the Gunners blew a two-goal lead in both.
Arteta added: “We want to be very certain when we push him that he is ready to absorb the load and the risk  we will take — and at the moment it’s not possible to do that.”

Police are investigating a racially aggravated tweet aimed at Saka, who was also racially abused after missing a spot-kick in England’s Euro 2020 final shootout defeat to Italy.
Arteta said: “Experiences help and what he went through at Euro 2020 was tough. But if he had any doubt about how much people love, respect and admire him at the club, he had a very overwhelming reaction from everyone.
“It can be something very positive that can  give him a big lift — and he deserves it.”

Asked if Saka will take the next penalty, the Spaniard replied: “Yes. If not, I will go on the pitch and throw him the ball!”
Arteta insists his players are fired up to get their title challenge back on track.
Ahead of the home clash with bottom-club Southampton, Arteta said:  “I’ve sensed a real determination to do better and demand more of each other.
“I’ve had to stop them in training because they’ve wanted it so much and we need to leave something for Southampton. That’s when we have to show it.” More

And ex-Three Lions skipper Rooney was at the peak of the Red Devils’ golden era, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League, also netting a club record 253 goals in 559 games.
But the DC United manager still thinks he didn’t quite climb the heights that four other Old Trafford icons did.
CBS’s Morning Footy asked Rooney who he’d pick – after they chose him, Sir Bobby Charlton, Paul Scholes and former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The ex-Everton striker replied: “Yeah I think for me, Sir Alex of course will be on there.

In fact, it’s probably harder to choose a United quartet than it was for artist Gutzon Borglum to select the four leaders on Rushmore.
