Man Utd face losing key man for FA Cup final and Prem run-in… with Liverpool legend to have final say

MANCHESTER UNITED could be left without Alejandro Garnacho for the final few games of the season. That is because the Argentine, 18, is set to be called up by his country for the U20 World Cup.

The tournament begins on May 20, meaning he would miss the Red Devils’ Premier League matches against Bournemouth and Fulham.
He would also be absent for the FA Cup final if Man Utd come through Brighton at Wembley on Sunday.
However, United are reluctant to release Garnacho – who is recovering from an ankle injury.
Fifa rules state that clubs are “obliged to release their registered players to representative teams of the country for which the player is eligible to play on the basis of his nationality if they are called by the association concerned”.

Football’s governing body also outline that “any agreement between a player and a club to the contrary is prohibited”.
However, these rules are not compulsory for tournaments that take place during a domestic season.
Former Liverpool and Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano is the head coach of Argentina’s U20s.
And according to The Telegraph, he will fly over to England next week to try and convince United to release Garnacho.

This is not the first time the teenager has been at the centre of controversy in recent months.
When he was not selected for the World Cup in Qatar, Mascherano was forced to defend Garnacho amid reports he had been omitted due to attitude problems.
Mascherano said: “The first time [Lionel] Scaloni [Argentina manager] brought him in March, and then when we went to Toulon, he behaved spectacularly.
“Garnacho is a respectful boy. He formed a very nice bond with the boys who play in Argentina even though he didn’t really know them.
“I really don’t know why they say what they say, but with us he had a behaviour and predisposition that was 10 out of 10.
“Obviously Garnacho is a great player. There is a reason he is playing for Manchester United at the age of 18.”
Mascherano’s comments came after Erik ten Hag and Bruno Fernandes both hinted about his poor conduct off the pitch.
Garnacho has contributed four goals and five assists in 32 games for Man Utd this season. More

Chelsea AND Spurs fans fume as Pochettino becomes odds-on favourite for Blues job after Nagelsmann pulls out

BOTH Chelsea and Tottenham fans are fuming after the latest update regarding Mauricio Pochettino and the Blues’ job.The 51-year-old Argentine has been out of work since he was sacked by Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season.
Mauricio Pochettino has held ‘multiple rounds of positive talks’ with ChelseaCredit: AFP
SunSport confirmed in January that he was on Chelsea’s radar.
And now he is being linked as a permanent replacement for Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea contacted him over the job and now several reports are claiming that he has boosted his chances of landing the gig after “a series of positive talks” between him and the West London club.
However, due to his Tottenham connections, many Blues supporters do not want him anywhere near their dug-out.

One fan tweeted: “@todd_boehly … You better not hire Pochettino to Chelsea.”

The ex-Spurs head coach is more likely to get the job now after Julian Nagelsmann dropped out of the running, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim is also now seen as an outsider for the Chelsea role.
But Luis Enrique has NOT been placed among the top candidates for the position.
The Spaniard, 52, flew to London for talks with club bosses two weeks ago, but things have not progressed since then.
And that could leave the door open for Spurs – who are keen on the ex-Barcelona man despite Daniel Levy previously holding reservations about his lack of Premier League experience.
Poch has also been linked with a return, and some supporters that are desperate to have him back are fuming with the Chelsea speculation.
One wrote: “Why would you want Poch if he’s been talking to Chelsea? No thanks.”
While another said: “Please Poch, don’t go to Chelsea. Please. That will be the finisher, I can’t take any more hits…..”
Pochettino is one of Spurs’ most successful and popular managers in recent history – despite failing to win a trophy with the club.
He averaged 1.89 points per game – the most for any Tottenham boss in Premier League history with a minimum of 38 Premier League games in charge.

Arsenal cult hero calls on Mikel Arteta to cull five stars for Southampton clash… including Bukayo Saka

ARSENAL manager Mikel Arteta has been urged to drop FIVE players for their next Premier League game. The Gunners are hoping to recover from two consecutive draws, where they surrendered two-goal leads in both games, against Liverpool and West Ham.

And Jeremie Aliadiere has named five players he thinks Arteta should rest against basement-boys Southampton.
The match against Saints should be a perfect opportunity for the North Londoners to get their Premier League title campaign back on track.
Arsenal are heavy favourites against 20th-placed Southampton, who have won just one of their last eight top-flight games.
And while the Gunners remain top of the table, Manchester City are only four points behind and have a game in hand.

The two teams will meet on Wednesday for a potential title-decider at the Etihad.
Ahead of the showdown, Aliadiere urged Arteta to rest several players, including Bukayo Saka, who he said looked tired against West Ham on Sunday.
Speaking to Metro, he said: “He was rested before the Liverpool game. He’s played a lot of games and has been amazing this season.
“Playing against Southampton, Gabriel Martinelli and Buyako Saka have played a lot this season and these players that carry the ball a lot, they dribble and cover a lot of ground, it’s the end of the season and they are still young.

“On Friday night I agree Arsenal should rest those players. We’ve got Leandro Trossard and Emile Smith Rowe and players who have not played much football lately.
“They are ready to come in and do a job for Arsenal.
“I’m sure Mikel Arteta will be thinking of that, especially with the Manchester City game in mind, which comes quickly after.
“I agree he will probably rest Saka and see how the game goes.
“If he doesn’t need to come on (from the bench) then great, give him the day off. Get him ready for that Manchester City game.”
When asked if he thought Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard should be dropped, Aliadiere added: “Yes, all those guys.
“I think you’ve got a very fair point – Thomas Partey was not at his best against West Ham. He was losing the ball too cheaply and did not seem sharp.
Aliadiere feels Thomas Partey should also be droppedCredit: Alamy
Aliadiere thinks Jorginho should replace players like ParteyCredit: Alamy
“As a player, some days you just don’t feel it. You don’t know why, you get on the pitch and you are not as sharp as you were in training a few days ago or in the last game.
“Mikel Arteta is seeing players every day on the field, he will know, but I totally agree.
“If I was manager I would rotate for that game and change some of the boys who look tired to get them refreshed and ready for the Manchester City game.
“That’s going to be the one you don’t want to lose. As much as they are top players who have performed so well this season, I think against Southampton we have got enough players – Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe, Jorginho – to have them in the starting XI and still win the game.”
Aliadiere also gave an insight into the mood within the Arsenal camp after their two costly draws.
He said: “They’re still feeling very confident and it is still in their hands.
“I think it is more the press and the public around the club who are making them feel that they are out of it.
“The game against Manchester City away is coming up, it’s like it is already lost in people’s minds.
“That won’t be in the players’ minds at all. Arsenal have proven this season that they can go anywhere and get a result.
“City are a top side and we know it will be a difficult game but I still believe that Arsenal can go there and not lose.
“Everything is to play and it’s in our hands. I’d rather be in our situation than having to chase like City. That would have been a tougher situation.
Pep Guardiola’s side Manchester City are close behind Arsenal in the Premier LeagueCredit: Getty
“The last two results have been very disappointing and the boys are very down about it. They are maybe not really understanding how it happened.
“They were 2-0 up and started both games really well. It seems that after 25, 30 minutes things are changing.
“They don’t have much of an explanation for it or an understanding. It’s one of those things where it has just happened.
“They are still very, very confident and Mikel Arteta has a big job on his hands to keep the boys believing. It’s not because of those two results that the race is over, it’s far from it.”
When asked if he still thought his old club will etch their name on the Premier League trophy, Aliadiere replied: “Yeah, 100 per cent. One million per cent.
“I definitely still believe. You know what, I’m going to say it… I can even see us going to the Etihad and winning. I really do.
“Manchester City have had a big game in the Champions League, another big semi-final (FA Cup) on the weekend.

“I know they might have a better, bigger squad than we’ve got, but I can see us going there and getting something. I really do believe we will end up winning the title.”

For whatever reason, Angel Di Maria at United never quite worked.
After one awkward season, he left for PSG before eventually moving to Juventus last season.
The 35-year-old may have lost some pace but has lost little of his technical ability or guile in front of goal.
