He has not played a single match since being frozen out by Watford halfway through last season.

At the conclusion of the interview, Rose asked Howe: “Do you need a third-choice left-back by any chance?”

Howe and Rose’s fellow pundit Kieron Dyer cracked up laughing.
The 29-cap former England defender left Spurs on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.
He subsequently signed for Watford, but would only make nine appearances for the Hornets before being ditched by Claudio Ranieri.
Dyer responded to Rose by joking: “I thought he wanted to be a sailor!”

Dan Burn has been Newcastle’s regular starting left-back this season, with Matt Targett in reserve.
SunSport revealed this weekend that the Toon are confident of landing Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney in a £30million switch this summer.

And Spurs have initiated contact with Sporting over potentially signing Goncalves, according to Record in Portugal.
Goncalves, who can play out wide or in the middle, previously spent time with Wolves.
But some Tottenham fans have been left baffled by the rumours.
Supporters have questioned why work is reportedly being done on transfers, despite the club not currently having a permanent manager.

Transfer chief Fabio Paratici also quit the club in midweek after he failed to overturn his ban from certain football activities.
One aggrieved fan wrote on Twitter: “Signing players without having a manager is very Spursy. The board need to step down ASAP.”
Another said: “Doing this without an official permanent manager being put in place first. This club…”
And a third quipped: “I’m honestly so confused by us. What even are we.”

Julian Nagelsmann had been the front runner for the job before he withdrew from the race on Friday.
Chelsea have held several rounds of positive talks with Pochettino and their admiration for the 51 year old is growing.
According to The Telegraph the move towards the former Spurs manager has been welcomed by players in the dressing room who are said to be ‘positive’ and ‘excited’ by the potential appointment.
Chelsea’s England stars have international team-mates from Spurs who have worked under Pochettino.

And, the report adds that there is acknowledgement within the squad for his coaching skills, alongside his reputation for being a good motivator and man manager.
However the 51 year old’s potential arrival will not be good news for all the club’s players as the report adds that Pochettino would be in favour of backing a squad clear out.
As many as 10 first team players may need to be moved on with the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Conor Gallagher, Mateo Kovacic, Cesar Azpilicueta and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang just a few players facing an uncertain future at the club.
It would be interesting to see how Chelsea would potentially line-up under Pochettino with so much change to the club’s playing squad expected over the summer.

Pochettino currently tops the club’s three man shortlist which also contains Burnley’s Vincent Kompany and the recently revealed unknown candidate Ange Postecoglou.
The report says that Chelsea had been concerned about Pochettino’s links to Spurs but those fears have subsided significantly, as he is thought to not see it as an issue having not yet been contacted by Spurs over their managerial vacancy.
Chelsea are back in action on Wednesday night as they host Brentford at Stamford Bridge with Frank Lampard still looking for his win as caretaker manager. More

The North Londoners dropped points in a shock 3-3 draw against bottom-of-the-table Southampton on Friday at the Emirates.
And defeat against City, who have two games in hand, at the Etihad on Wednesday could officially end Arsenal’s dreams of a first title in 19 years.
But Merson claims there could be some more twists and turns along the way.
The TV pundit believes the Citizens could also fall victim to another relegation struggler that will leave it all on the pitch in their bid for survival.

And the 55-year-old reckons Everton could deliver a blow during a time when Pep Guardiola’s men may turn their attention to the Champions League, which is the one trophy they’ve never won.
That is why the former England international is still confident Mikel Arteta’s men can win the Premier League.
Merson told Sky Sports: “I’m still quite confident. I think the fixtures will catch up with Man City.
“The one game you don’t want to play in between Real Madrid is Everton away.

“Sean Dyche is going to make it very difficult. This is why everyone loves the Premier League.
“Top has just played bottom and they’ve had to score two goals in the last minute.
“Someone’s only got to run through next week, or two weeks’ time, and Ederson comes out to give away a penalty or gets a red card. It changes that quickly.
“Man City beat Arsenal 3-1 away, a few days later they went to Nottingham Forest and drew 1-1. They could have won 100-1!
“That’s how quick it changes, and it was back in Arsenal’s hands. If I was Arsenal, I wouldn’t lose faith yet. Honestly, I wouldn’t.” More

Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney names the one Arsenal star who could stop ‘pace and power’ of Man City’s Erling Haaland

WAYNE ROONEY reckons Arsenal are better off trying to exploit Manchester City’s defenders rather than worry about Erling Haaland. The Manchester United legend doesn’t believe the Gunners have anyone able to individually match Haaland’s “pace and power”.

Wayne Rooney has urged Arsenal to focus on their own game rather than worrying about HaalandCredit: Reuters
Haaland has scored 32 goals in 28 Premier League games this season
That’s because star centre-back William Saliba is currently out injured.
Saliba, 22, has not featured for Arsenal since March 16 and it is currently unknown when the French defender will return to action.
The Gunners could be without Saliba when they come up against goal machine Haaland in Wednesday night’s mammoth encounter at the Etihad.
Norwegian sensation Haaland has netted 32 goals in 28 Premier League games this season, and has 48 strikes in 42 outings in all competitions.

But Rooney believes Mikel Arteta’s side must “impose their own game” on City with Saliba currently sidelined by a back problem.
Writing for The Times, Rooney said: “How do they stop Haaland? With William Saliba injured, there’s no prospect of matching his pace and power individually, and the only way is to go out and try to impose their own game.
“City can be vulnerable when you hit them in the transition and you saw it against Bayern Munich, particularly when Leroy Sane should have scored after Bayern won possession and broke on them.
“These are the opportunities you can get against City, and Arsenal have the players to capitalise in a way that Bayern didn’t — the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.”

Rooney urged the Gunners to get at City’s defenders when the two sides meet on Wednesday night in a potential title decider.
He continued: “Arsenal should focus on how to expose those City defenders rather than focus too much on Haaland.
“The mindset needs to be: nobody thought we’d be here, and now we’re playing for the title – so let’s go and take it.
“If they go with that positive approach, it’ll be a great game. If they sit back and wait? Do that against City and you die a slow death.
“City are exceptional and cannot be contained, so it’s about what they can do in attack themselves, and about having no regrets.” More
