Newcastle 6 Tottenham 1: Spurs suffer humiliating first-half capitulation as Toon take giant step towards top four place

TOTTENHAM sunk to a new low as they were blitzed by top four rivals Newcastle in a nightmare opening 21 minutes. And now Eddie Howe’s side are dreaming of a return to Europe’s top table after thrashing hapless Spurs in front of a rocking St. James’ Park.

Billed as a battle for the Champions League, Newcastle would have been given a tougher game by local ninth-tier side Heaton Stannington.
Even for shambolic Spurs’ standards, this was a horrifying new low.

Some of their shell-shocked supporters started making the 280-mile trip back home after the Magpies’ third just nine minutes in.

Given how high they are housed in the Leazes End, it would have been 5-0 by the time those on the slow side made it to the bottom.
Howe’s Mags were exceptional as they took a giant leap towards securing a top-four finish, but they weren’t 5-0 up inside 21 minutes brilliant.
For that to happen you need a willing partner to roll over, and Tottenham were more than happy to oblige.
Starting with a four-man defence for the first time in 15 months, nobody had a clue what they were doing.

Not for the first time, Antonio Conte was proved right about this hopeless rabble. Three, four, or five, it makes no difference when they’re individually as bad as this lot.

No shape, no urgency and certainly no commitment or fight.
At half-time on Sky, ex-defender Danny Rose – who hasn’t kicked a ball for 16 months – laughed: “All I’ve been thinking all half is how am I unemployed!”
Forget about the Champions League – they are now six points off fourth – there’s a good chance they’ll miss out on Europe altogether now.
Despite not finishing below seventh since 2008/09, nobody who watched this car crash would bet against that happening now.
A broken football club from top to bottom, this will sting for a long time.
For the Geordies, life doesn’t get any better.
Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak both bagged braces, with the £60million Swede taking his season’s tally to 10 in his 11th start.
Joelinton and Callum Wilson scored the others, leaving Howe’s side third and six points ahead of the chasing pack as they look to seal Champions League football for the first time in 20 years.
Just 59 seconds were on the clock when the rout began.
Joelinton picked it up on the left wing before cutting inside past two hopeless challenges.
Harry Kane pulled one back for Tottenham just after the restartCredit: Getty

The Brazilian’s low effort was saved by Hugo Lloris but he could only parry to Murphy, who buried into the roof.
Spurs fans immediately started chanting ‘We want Levy out’ – yet it was about to get a whole lot worse for them before long.
Joelinton made it 2-0 six minutes in, darting in off his left wing to pick up Fabian Schar’s raking ball  before taking it around Lloris slotting into an empty net.
A great goal but what on earth was right-back Pedro Porro and Cristian Romero doing allowing him in like that?
Next up was Murphy’s second three minutes later, a 25-yard thunderbolt beyond the rooted Lloris.
A brilliant strike leaving the winger genuinely shocked he had it in him but it was woeful from Eric Dier Son Heung-min this time.
The ball into him was poor and the South Korean was weak, allowing Fabian Schar to nick it off him with ease.
By this stage the Spurs players were arguing everywhere you looked.
Interim boss Stellini was ranting and raving, pointing here and there – not that anybody is listening to him anymore.
The North Londoners had never been 3-0 down inside 10 minutes in the Prem before.
The heavens then opened, and it was raining more goals before long.
Callum Wilson added more misery as he grabbed a sixthCredit: Getty
To be fair to Tottenham, they held on for another 10 minutes before it was four.
Dejan Kulusevski lost on the left of Toon’s box, with Joe Willock driving towards halfway and releasing Isak in behind Eric Dier with a gorgeous pass with the outside of his boot.
The Swede buried into the bottom corner – and he did exactly the same TWO minutes later.
Some neat play down the right had Spurs chasing shadows before Sean Longstaff’s backheel teed Isak up to shoot across the hapless Lloris.
It was about keeping it to single figures now with 70 minutes remaining, so Davinson Sanchez – mercilessly booed by his own fans last week – was on for Pape Sarr to shore things up.

Skipper Lloris was hooked at the break for Fraser Forster and the supporters still inside St James’ celebrated ironically when Harry Kane made it 5-1 in the 49th minute.
Yet any hopes of damage limitation were ruined when sub Callum Wilson diverted Miguel Almiron’s wayward shot home with his first touch, 65 seconds after replacing Isak.  More

However Aubameyang only arrived at Stamford Bridge on deadline day in September last year but has endured a difficult time in west London.
The Mirror are reporting that Barcelona manager Xavi has a list of targets and is set to offer Kante a two year deal whilst the club want an answer from Aubameyang by the first week of June.
Kante joined Chelsea in 2016 for £30million from then Premier League champions Leicester City.
The Frenchman played a key role as France won the 2018 World Cup in Russia and has also helped the Blues win the Premier League Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup.

The 32 year old recently returned to action against Liverpool earlier this month having been out with a hamstring injury since last August.
The midfielder is expected to sign a two year extension at Chelsea with the Blues having an option for a third.
This hasn’t stopped Barcelona from trying to convince the French international to make the move to Spain.
The Catalans are expected to have to rely on free transfers and sell players amidst their well documented financial woes.

Aubameyang made the move from the Nou Camp to be re-united with his former boss Thomas Tuchel but the German was sacked after the pair had just one game together.
The 33 year old has struggled for playing time and was removed from the Blues Champions League squad to make way for new signings Joao Felix, Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk.
This season the Gabon forward has only scored once in the Premier League and twice in the Champions League across 18 games this season. More

And it’s not the first time Murphy has delighted fans with his antics on the pitch.
Earlier this season Murphy left football fans in hysterics after waving goodbye to Duje Caleta-Car when the Southampton star was sent off.
Murphy also cheekily taunted Manchester United last month and gave a priceless reaction to Fulham boss Marco Silva raging at St. James’ Park earlier in the campaign.
So fans on social media were once again left in stitches by Murphy following his reaction to his second goal against Spurs.

Paul Scholes makes U-turn on Man Utd star and backs him to become ‘huge player’ after calling him a ‘clown’

PAUL SCHOLES has performed a remarkable U-turn on “clown” Antony and now says the Brazilian has the potential to be a “huge player” for Manchester United. The winger, 23, moved to Old Trafford from Ajax last summer after boss Erik ten Hag made the same switch but has struggled to hit top gear despite a few bright sparks.

United legend Scholes has been one of Antony’s biggest critics, however, the ex-England ace has now changed his tune following the star’s recent displays.
Speaking on BT Sport this week, Scholes said: “It took some convincing from me, especially after the start of the season, but I think since that Everton game at home [on April 8] he has become a different player.
“I felt he became a bit predictable, always coming in on his left foot and he needed to add different dimensions to his game and I think in the Everton game he did that.
“He started to run in behind Ben Godfrey, he did it two or three times and was clean through on goal but didn’t quite get the goal.

“He started to beat people on the outside and now his confidence is there and he’s starting to look like the player we all expected.”
Antony, who will be hoping to start for United in today’s FA Cup semi-final with Brighton, scored and produced an assist in last week’s 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest to take his goal contributions to 14 for the season.
And after previously hitting out at his tricks, Scholes has now stated that nobody will have any complaints over the “silly” stuff if he continues to produce the goods.
He added: “He’s still going to do his silly stuff but we don’t mind that if he’s producing stuff like this, producing goals and a pass for Dalot.

“He needs more of those goals, he needs to get himself in the box and he will score a lot of goals in this team in the next couple of years.
“He’s 22 years of age, Brazilian lad, has come from a different country. It was going to take him a bit of time to settle in but now – ok, we’re coming to the end of the season – but in the next couple of years he could be a huge player for this club.” More

Stellini also hooked Pape Sarr after just 23 minutes following Newcastle’s fifth goal, with Davinson Sanchez coming on in his place.
The changes had the desired effect as Spurs stopped the rot and grabbed a goal of their own shortly after half-time.
Fans joked at Lloris’ expense and one claimed he may have played his last minutes for the club.
One supporter quipped: “His back was hurting from picking the ball out the net.”
Another added: “Premier League career done!”
A third said: “Lloris should just retire!”
Another commented: “Lloris has had to come off with an injured soul.”

A few weeks earlier he handed Aston Villa a goal after he fumbled Douglas Luiz’s long-range strike for Emi Buendia to tap in.
After the match a downbeat Lloris admitted his side’s performance was “embarrassing”.
He said: “It’s very embarrassing. We should apologise to the fans that travelled and to the fans who watched the ga,e.
“We didn’t show a great face today. We could not match the performance of the Newcastle players.
“We completely missed the first part of the game, the second half is a different story but it’s really painful today.
“We could not fight, we were late in all the aspects of the game and Newcastle had a great performance, they were very aggressive.
“It’s difficult right now to asses and analyse the performance but the first thing is that there was a lack of pride.
“It was strange, we could not even react, we could not even bounce back into the game. But Newcastle deserve a lotof credit, they were very dynamic and knew just what to do with and without the ball.” More

Fans in hysterics at Danny Rose’s outfit as they joke he’s ‘either a train conductor or about to belt out a Cheryl song’

FANS have poked fun at Danny Rose for his strange outfit choice. The former England international appeared on Sky Sports for their coverage of Newcastle vs Tottenham.

Rose played for both clubs and provided insight into the two teams in his role as pundit.
But viewers watching on were more concerned with his attire – in particular his choice of cap made by fashion brand Ruslan Baginskiy, which costs around £300.
Fans mocked the ex-defender and likened his hat to something popstar Cheryl Cole would wear.

Fans stunned as Spurs bring on Davinson Sanchez after 23 MINUTES following five-goal meltdown a week after he was booed

TOTTENHAM were forced to turn to boo-boy Davinson Sanchez after a five-goal collapse inside 23 minutes at Newcastle. There were only 61 seconds on the clock when Jacob Murphy rifled the Magpies ahead at St. James’ Park.

Tottenham caretaker boss Cristian Stellini had opted to experiment with a back four rather than the club’s more traditional three-man defence.
And it soon blew up in his face when Joelinton doubled the advantage in the sixth minute.
Murphy grabbed his second just moments later before Alexander Isak got his name on the scoresheet.
Then, just as the clock ticked into the 21st-minute, Tottenham were floored again as Isak made it five.

Stellini had seen enough, and he was forced to turn to Colombian defender Sanchez, the man he subbed on and then off last week, to shore up his backline against ruthless Newcastle.
He replaced midfielder Pape Sarr as Spurs switched to a three-man defence – but the damage was already done.
One fan reacted to the decision on Twitter with: “Davinson Sanchez, the man who was booed by his own fans and substituted as a sub last game, is coming on. Unbelievable.”
Another wrote: “Bringing on Davinson Sanchez for damage limitation controls, 5-0 down in 20 minutes is absolute peak Spursy.”

A fellow fan said: “Justice for Davinson Sanchez.”
While another added: “Spurs’ response to going 5-0 down after 23 minutes is to put on a defender, Davinson Sanchez, who was booed by his own supporters last week. Already looks damage limitation.”
It comes just a week after Tottenham fans booed Sanchez in the 3-2 loss to Bournemouth.
Sanchez came on in the 35th minute for the injured Clement Lenglet but his mistake led to Dominic Solanke putting the Cherries’ 2-1 ahead on 51 minutes.
The Colombian was booed with his every touch afterwards and as he was brought off just before the hour as Spurs chased the game.
Sanchez, 26, joined the club from Ajax in 2017 for £42m and has played over 200 times for the club, though he has largely been overlooked this term.
And he has done little to appease fans with some shaky performances this season, including a disastrous “thin air” tackle during last month’s FA Cup defeat at Sheffield United.
