ARSENAL fans were up in arms at claims of reports VAR made the incorrect decision to award John Stones’ goal in their 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.US broadcaster NBC made the claim during their coverage of the match without explaining where the reports were from.

Stones gave his side a 2-0 lead with a brilliant header on the stroke of half-time.
The goal was initially ruled out for offside but following a lengthy VAR check the decision was overturned due to Ben White’s foot playing Stones onside.
However some fans are convinced the wrong call was made – which was fuelled by the claim on NBC.
Another angle of the incident also emerged which appeared to show Stones was offside.

Despite fan’s theories of wrongdoing, the PGMOL have confirmed the correct decision was made.
In addition, NBC Sports are understood to have later clarified the alternative angle arguing otherwise was wrong.

Some fans are also unhappy Jack Grealish was only booked for an altercation with Thomas Partey where he grabbed the Arsenal star by his shirt collar.
Manchester United star Casemiro was sent off for a similar incident against Crystal Palace earlier this season.
Arsenal defender White and City’s Phil Foden also clashed at the final whistle with the latter pushing his England team-mate. More

Fans in hysterics as damning Chelsea stat flashes up on the TV and shows just how bad they’ve been this season

FANS have been left in hysterics after a BT Sport stat underlined just how dreadful Chelsea’s season has been. The Blues lost again last night to west London rivals Brentford as their appalling season continued to head south.
Chelsea have scored one goals in their last seven games in all competitionsCredit: PA

It is now five defeats for Chelsea with Frank Lampard also losing all five games of his reign.
But a simple stat from the night before seemed to emphasise just how bad things have become – and fans could barely believe their eyes.
A day before the Chelsea game, Leeds were taking on Leicester in a huge relegation at Elland Road.
With the Foxes leading in the second-half, broadcasters BT Sport produced a graphic showing that both sides had the potential for goals.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Despite their struggles this season, Leicester and Leeds sat top of the charts for most amount of goals by bottom-half Prem sides.
And it did not take long for fans on Twitter to spot the most interesting element of that stat.
Chelsea were only sixth on the list of most goals by bottom-half sides, underlining their severe scoring issues.
And is if that wasn’t enough, their entire team has fewer goals than Manchester City’s Erling Haaland alone.

Kai Havertz is Chelsea’s top scorer in the league with seven goals
Blues fans were left to despair but rival supporters could not hide their glee.
One tweeted: “What’s even funnier, is Chelsea being at the bottom of this graphic, after spending £600m on players and £100m replacing managers.”
Another added: “It’s even funnier that they only just scraped enough goals to be in it.”
And another joked: “Frank Lampard guiding Chelsea back to the top six!”
Nottingham Forest’s three goals last night mean they now trail Chelsea by just a single strike.
This is particularly incredible given they have just seven goals away from home all season.
Chelsea only have six goals more than the league’s lowest scorers Everton. More

But despite the scoreline, supporters were still singing his praises as he donned matching ear defenders alongside the mascot beside him before kick-off onto the pitch.
His team-mate Danny Ings, formerly of Aston Villa, did a similar thing earlier in the campaign to support nine-year-old Riley Regan, who has autism and struggles with loud noises, out.
The youngster feared people would make fun of him for wearing them, so the striker was determined to show that he was not alone and pulled on a pair himself.
And Tim Ream was also lauded by fans for his show of support for Fulham’s young mascot before their defeat to Arsenal last month by performing a similar gesture.

Now Bowen has repeated the gesture as he guided a young Hammers fan from the tunnel out onto the pitch as “Forever Blowing Bubbles” blasted out over the PA system in front of a raucous crowd.

Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Arsenal turned ugly at the final whistle as both sets of players came to blows.
A brace from Kevin de Bruyne and strikes from John Stones and Erling Haaland delivered a hammer blow to the Gunners’ title chances at the Etihad.
But despite the hefty victory and Arsenal barely being able to lay a glove on the reigning champions, it remained a fiery encounter throughout.
Arsenal fans called for Ruben Dias to be sent off at the end of the first half when he kicked out at White – with Michael Oliver showing him a yellow card.

Jack Grealish and Thomas Partey came to blows in the second period when the Man City man nudged over the Arsenal midfielder.
The Ghanaian responded by storming into Grealish and pushing his hand into his face.
And those aggressive vibes continued at the final whistle when Haaland and White appeared to get involved in a confrontation.

Now a clip has emerged of what started that trouble, and it shows White approaching Foden, who appeared as a late sub, before grabbing hold of his fellow England World Cup squad member’s collar while appearing to say something to him.

Foden attempts to shove White away, although the defender clings onto his rival’s shirt, before the pair are eventually separated as team-mates, including Haaland, race in before squaring up.
One fan reacted to the footage by asking: “Why is White picking on Foden?”
Another called White a “f***ing weirdo” as another tweeted: “Doesn’t care about football but he’ll randomly square up to the international colleague who played 10 minutes.”
While another commented: “Where was this energy during the 90 minutes????”
On White, who left England’s squad back in Qatar early, another added: “And they wonder why they sent him home in the WC.”

Arsenal’s season collapse is like Keegan’s Newcastle demise… Toon fans still wonder how they never won it 27 years on

WHEN the maths finally tells Arsenal this unexpected and exciting title challenge has bitten the dust, expect plenty of positives to be aired. That this is just the first step and they’ll be back next season and challenge for years to come.

That this will have been character-building and the players will be even stronger from the experience.
Mikel Arteta, of course, will have learned so much from how an advantage was thrown away and the same mistakes will not be made next time.
It won’t be long before they get that title for the first time since 2004.
The problem is it doesn’t always work like that.

Not when you have been so far ahead.
Not when you have this moment in time and fail to grasp it.
Not when you have blown successive two-goal leads to Liverpool and West Ham, then needed a fightback to only draw at home with doomed Southampton, followed by Wednesday’s 4-1 loss at Manchester City.
Three wins would have backed up Arteta’s pre-match theory that this encounter would not define the season because they would still be in the driving seat even in defeat.

If this plays out as we all now expect, it will be very hard to come back from.
Gunners fans only have to ask the team two places below them in the table what it means to blow a title and what the aftermath can be.
You can’t always just consign it to history and go again like Manchester United did to win the first Premier League.
Or, indeed, Liverpool more recently in 2019-20 after going so close the year before.
Newcastle fans still pick over the final months of that 1995-96 campaign and wonder how?
A very good book on that season is called ‘Touching Distance’, a quote from then chairman and owner Sir John Hall about how close they were without being able to light the cigar.
They haven’t been close to even opening the packet since.
Even when they broke the transfer world record for Alan Shearer at £15million the following season the seeds of doubt had been sown.
    The wounds had not healed.
Disappointment can lead to frustration, can lead to desperation and you start running on sand.
Rash decisions can be made on players.
    Managers can be doubted.
Fans can turn on each other as the fingers start to point.
If Arsenal fail to win this by a handful of points, for years to come fans will wonder how they blew that pair of two-goal leads.Neil Custis
Kevin Keegan never got over it and walked eight months after Newcastle had surrendered the title despite the club desperately wanting to keep him.
The Magpies tried to keep banging on the door but soon they weren’t even heard.
People always remember the defeat at home to Manchester United followed by the incredible 4-3 loss at Liverpool as turning the tide.
Yet with six games to go they blew a 1-0 lead at Blackburn by conceding in the 86th and 89th minutes to lose.
The penultimate game was a draw at Nottingham Forest and ended with Peter Beardsley holding his head in his hands.
Win those two and maybe they don’t wilt and draw at home to Tottenham on the final day when they know the game is up, as news filters through from The Riverside.
That’s six more points. They lost it by five.
If Arsenal fail to win this by a handful of points, for years to come fans will wonder how they blew that pair of two-goal leads.
How they couldn’t beat Southampton at home.
Players’ body language after that draw was like Newcastle’s at Ewood Park. It told you that it was slipping through their fingers.
‘Stand up for the Champions’ sang City fans on Wednesday.

Frank Lampard gives passionate defence of Chelsea flops after FIFTH straight loss and has ‘no problem’ with fans booing

FRANK LAMPARD launched a passionate defence of his Chelsea players after they were booed off at half and full time.An own goal from Blues skipper Cesar Azpilicueta and a 78th minute strike by Brentford sub Bryan Mbeumo condemned Chelsea to a fifth straight defeat since Lampard took over as caretaker boss.

Their eight game winless run is also the worst for 30 years but Lampard claims his players did their best and that he does not care what people think.
He said: “I won’t sit here and bemoan the players. I feel the opposite for the players tonight.
“We controlled the game and created more chances. With 20 per cent more confidence we win the game, probably.
“No disrespect to Brentford. Normally we win the game, we don’t because of the moment we’re in.

“They performed like they wanted to win. Are we dynamic enough in the final third no?
“Is there an issue with confidence in the squad? Yes. Those things won’t change overnight. I’m just supporting them.
“I understand the fans booing, they want us to win. when we win they cheer. When we lose I understand they’re disappointed.”
“We had a foothold in the game but Brentford  always turn you round with corners and throw-ins and the goal came from that.
“In the second half we were more dynamic and created more chances on the counter attack. It wasn’t an application thing.
“We have to keep working and fighting to create opps to score goals. Two things, maybe aren’t goals in the team and when you’re low on confidence.
“Maybe a fresh Auba scores those goals… but it’s a clear issue with the squad that’s why we haven’t scored enough goals for a team like Chelsea.
“The only way out of it is work. There is clearly a confidence problem and you can see that in the players’ faces.

“The players aren’t bemoaning each other at the moment. I came here for a reason because the results are not what they want.
“I took it on knowing the jeopardy and I’m proud to be here.”
Chelsea have scored only 30 goals in 32 Premier League games this season. They are 11th and sit eight points behind Brentford.
This was boss Thomas Frank’s 100th win as Bees’ boss and he will celebrate with a small glass of red wine to toast the fact his team has now surpassed last season’s points tally of 46.
This is also Brentford’s second successive win at Stamford Bridge. Last season’s was their first since 1939.
Frank said: “It is so nice to win. After a spell of pressure in the second half we controlled much of the game.
“I was surprised by their line up. I have so much respect for them but it is no secret that Chelsea is in a bad place.
“But this is still Stamford Bridge, it is still Chelsea and they still have unbelievable players.

RIYAD MAHREZ’S head was bleeding during Manchester City’s thumping win over Arsenal. The Algerian star, 32, was dropped to the bench despite his hat-trick in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.
Riyad Mahrez was spotted with blood pouring down his head
He came off the bench to replace Ilkay Gundogan in the 72nd minute of the statement 4-1 victory.
But in the aftermath of City’s fourth goal deep into injury time, Mahrez was spotted on the TV cameras with blood pouring down the side of his head.

And plenty of City fans were concerned about their hero on Twitter.

One said: “Why is Riyad Mahrez bleeding?”
Another wrote: “What’s up with Mahrez’s head?”
However, it did not seem to dent his mood too much as he celebrated closing the gap on Arsenal to two points with two games in hand.
Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland turned on the style by running the show.

Haaland twice assisted his superstar pal either side of a John Stones header.
And Haaland grabbed his 49th goal of a remarkable season with that 95th-minute finish.
The result means City have one hand on the Premier League trophy and moved a giant step closer to a fifth title in six seasons.
Ruben Dias escaped a red card when he kicked out at Ben White just before half-time.
That sparked the first of three melees – with Thomas Partey and Jack Grealish angrily going head to head in the second half and then Haaland and White clashing after the full-time whistle.
