Man Utd analysts spotted one struggling star ‘only ever tried to pass to Cristiano Ronaldo to get praise from him’

He later signed for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr and his departure coincided with United’s best run of the season.
United won seven in a row and stars such as Marcus Rashford enjoyed a newfound freedom in attack.
Ronaldo seemingly had a big influence on his team-mates and according to The Athletic one attacking player used to constantly pass to the Portuguese in order to receive his praise.
It is claimed many United players were in awe of Ronaldo when he first arrived, and his winning mentality was viewed as a positive influence.

But over time players began to cower in his presence and were unable to match the big demands and standards he set.
Ronaldo is also believed to have called for captain Harry Maguire to be “demoted” to the bench and labelled the centre-back “part of the problem”.
CR7 even made line-up suggestions and stated who he felt was his ideal strike partner.
Since leaving Old Trafford Ronaldo has not been able to escape irritation with Al-Nassr being knocked out of the Saudi Cup this week.

Fans notice subtle change to BT Sport’s Premier League coverage and they say it’s ‘great news’

VIEWERS of BT Sports were delighted with a change to their usual programming last night. The broadcaster was screening the crunch Premier League title showdown between Manchester City and Arsenal.
Peter Walton was not in the hot-seat for BT Sport last night as usualCredit: BT Sport
Fans noticed the change during coverage of Man City’s win over Arsenal
The Cityzens thrashed the Gunners 4-1 as a brace from Kevin de Bruyne and strikes from John Stones and Erling Haaland delivered a hammer blow to the North London club’s championship chances at the Etihad.
However, those tuning in to the action appeared to be delighted that BT Sport had swapped ex-Prem referee Peter Walton in favour of Mark Clattenburg as the go-to guy for officiating decisions.
After De Bruyne’s early opener, viewers quickly took to Twitter after being surprised when Clattenburg was brought in to discuss it.
“BT Sport have sacked off Peter Walton for Clattenburg. Best news of the week,” declared one.

Another wrote: “Peter Walton has been binned off BT? Great news.”
While another said: “BT Sport have f***ed Peter Walton off in favour of Mark Clattenburg for the biggest game of the season.”
But not everyone was happy to see the diverse Walton, who Sun Sport has learned was absent due to a long-standing personal engagement, replaced.
One tweeted BT Sport asking: “Mark Clattenburg?! Where’s Peter Walton?”

Erling Haaland makes Dream Team history while Kevin De Bruyne reclaims midfield throne

MANCHESTER CITY vs Arsenal was billed as a climatic title-decider between two top teams. In reality, the contest resembled bottom-half club’s typical visit to the Etihad.
A meeting between title contenders is supposed to feel different but what occurred on Wednesday night was all too familiar; Pep Guardiola’s side dominated, Kevin De Bruyne’s (£8.1m) class shone through, and Erling Haaland (£9.9m) scored.
    Same old, same old.
The Gunners still hold a two-point lead over City but the latter have two games in hand and a more favourable set to fixtures to boot.
The Fat Lady isn’t singing just yet but she’s finished her vocal warm-ups and the sound check is complete.

City’s performance was a monumental one in the context of Dream Team as well.
Their two central protagonists, De Bruyne and Haaland, both made significant moves after ripping through Arsenal’s core time and time again.
The brilliant Belgian scored twice and provided the pinpoint cross for John Stones’ (£5.8m) header while the prolific poacher notched two assists before he bagged his customary goal in stoppage time once he’d let his hair down, quite literally.
That late strike helped Haaland leapfrog his team-mate in the match ratings to claim the Star Man award, his ninth of the season – the joint-highest tally of 2022/23.
    Most read in Football
When all was said and done, the 22-year-old added 17 points to his total to take him past an historic milestone.
Haaland is now officially just the second player in Dream Team history to pass 400 points in a single season (403 and counting).
Cristiano Ronaldo was the first quadruple centurion and his all-time record of 477 points is under serious threat with City’s No9 still active in three competitions.
    Inevitable
The defending English champions have seven league fixtures remaining, at least two Champions League games, and an FA Cup final to fulfil.
Given that Haaland averages 9.6 points-per-game, the legendary Portuguese forward should fear for his record’s safety.
As for De Bruyne, a 15-point haul at the Gunners’ expense meant he reclaimed the midfield throne from Bruno Fernandes (£6.7m).
Man United’s midfield talisman travels to Spurs this evening but he’ll need seven points to draw level with his cross-town rival on 227.

It’s worth noting that De Bruyne’s average of 5.5 points-per-game is in a bracket of its own among assets in his position to have played a substantial number of games – Fernandes’ is 4.4 by comparison.
    Read More on The Sun
Haaland reaching milestones and De Bruyne reigning supreme among midfielders is hardly fresh news but for both of them to stamp their authority on the title race and Dream Team in the same night is quite something.
Good luck to any gaffers trying to make it to the end of the season without both of City’s main men in their XI… you’re going to need it. More

“We’re not even in this, we’re not even participants in the game. I was gutted.”

Mikel Arteta’s side were outplayed in the title clash with City winning 4-1.
Ryanair reacted by sharing a photoshopped snap of KSI on board one of their planes, carrying his signature ‘Prime’ bottle.
But they also photoshopped the energy drink, who partner Arsenal, to make it read ‘bottled it’.
They added a caption which read: “Limited edition made with real Gunner tears”.

KSI replied saying “funny”, but indicated he was hurting behind the smile.
Fans are joking that Arsenal have bottled winning the league in the outbreak of their Etihad defeat.
Earlier this month they were eight points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side – that gap is now down to just two points with Arsenal having played two games more.
After beating Brighton on New Year’s Eve Arsenal had 43 points from just 16 games – no team with that amount of points at that stage of the season has failed to win the title.

Per Opta, they are also the first side to go four consecutive Prem games winless while starting the day top for each match since Arsenal themselves in March 2008.
According to a supercomputer there is just a ten per cent chance Arsenal will win the league.
It tips the Gunners to earn just nine more points from their five remaining games, which could mean defeats to Chelsea, Newcastle, or Brighton.
City goalkeeper Ederson also trolled Arsenal fans by turning to the away end and pretending to cry after the full-time whistle. More
