Erik ten Hag forced into another Man Utd defensive reshuffle with Maguire on bench as he struggles with injury

HARRY MAGUIRE has been named on the bench for Manchester United’s clash against Aston Villa despite battling an abdominal injury. Erik ten Hag has selected Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw at centre-back.

Maguire’s problem kept him out of the 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Thursday while he was suspended for FA Cup semi-final win over Brighton last weekend.
He is now fit enough for a place amongst the substitutes, putting himself forward for selection to help with Ten Hag’s defensive woes.
The boss has just one fit recognised centre-back with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez both out injured.
Man Utd’s game versus Aston Villa is the club’s ninth this month.

Due to fixture build-up, Ten Hag has rotated with Antony dropping to the bench, being replaced by Marcel Sabitzer in the starting XI.
It means Bruno Fernandes is likely to take his place on the right-wing.

Jadon Sancho starts on the left and Marcus Rashford leads the line with Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial named as subs.

Angry Man Utd fans march outside Old Trafford demanding full sale by hated Glazers ahead of Aston Villa clash

FURIOUS Manchester United fans marched to Old Trafford to vent their anger against the club’s owners once again and demand a full sale. The organised protest saw thousands of Red Devils supporters gather in Manchester and make their way to the stadium ahead of the clash with Aston Villa.

And they once again vocalised their hatred of the unpopular Glazer family – just as they famously did when they stormed Old Trafford two years ago, postponing the clash against Liverpool.
Fan group The 1958 set up the march, which saw the large mass gather at the Nags Head pub, approximately ten minutes away from the ground.
Many of the supporters carried banners, wore gold and green scarves and held flares aloft.
They chanted for the Glazers to get out of the club amid the ongoing question marks regarding a possible sale.

But talk of a part-sale – which would see brothers Joel and Avram Glazer keep a stake in the club – have left fans fearing the worst.
And instead they want a full sale only, with Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani ready to stump up the cash to purchase the entire club.
United fan and billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, though, would prefer to buy a stake which would see the Glazer siblings likely remain involved in some capacity.
And the Ineos chief is said to be the new favourite to complete a takeover, with his third bid reportedly bigger than the Qatari offer.

Four US hedge funds, including Elliott Management and the Carlyle group, are willing to provide finance for the Glazers to stay on, although their offers will only be assessed if the two main bids are rejected.
The Glazers value United at £6bn but the club’s share capitalisation value on the New York Stock Exchange fell 2.5 per cent to £2.6bn yesterday after initial rises in expectation of a sale were reversed by close of business.
On the pitch, Erik ten Hag’s side face in-form Aston Villa.
The Red Devils can take another giant step towards Champions League qualification with three points.

Captain Harry Maguire is only fit enough for the bench as he recovers from the abdominal injury that forced him out of Thursday’s 2-2 draw at Tottenham.
That means the Dutch boss goes with a back four of Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Harry Kane says Spurs have ‘lost their values’ since Mauricio Pochettino left after huge slump under Mourinho and Conte

HARRY KANE has admitted that Tottenham lost some key club values following the departure of former manager Mauricio Pochettino.Tottenham have struggled to compete at the top of the Premier League in recent years amid the club’s ever-changing managerial structure.

Since Pochettino’s departure in 2019, five different managers have taken charge of the Lilywhites – but none of them have been able to lead the club to silverware.
Jose Mourinho was appointed following Pochettino’s dismissal, but he lasted less that 18 months in the job before being sacked.
Former Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason then took over temporarily until Nuno Espirito Santo was named as the club’s new boss in June 2021.
The ex-Wolves manager was at the helm for just five months before he was replaced by Antonio Conte, who was sacked last month.

Conte’s right-hand man Cristian Stellini became Tottenham’s interim manager following the Italian’s departure, but he was dismissed after just four games following the club’s shocking 6-1 defeat to Newcastle.
Mason is now in charge of the first team once again until Spurs chiefs appoint a new permanent manager.

But Kane has admitted that one reason for the club’s disappointing run of form is that they have lost some core values amid the repeated chopping and changing of managers.
When speaking to Sky Sports, the striker was questioned about how Tottenham could improve.

He answered: “They are conversations that need to be had toward the end of the season.
“I feel like we lost a bit of what the values are at this club over the last few years.
“It’s about finding a way to get back on the same page again and obviously even with the fans as well.
“The fans were great (against Manchester United) on Thursday, getting behind us and being with us and Ryan and having that relationship.
“I’m not going to express it all here but there are conversations that we’re open to having because ultimately we all want to improve and get better. That goes from the top right through the club and that’s our aim.”
Kane became Tottenham’s all-time top goalscorer in February when he led Spurs to a 1-0 win over Manchester City.
The striker developed a close relationship with Pochettino when the pair worked together at Spurs.
When asked about the club’s Pochettino era, he said: “Yeah I think whenever you have a good moment as a team, I think we had three or four really good years when we were competing at the very top and that was without spending loads of money.
“We had a really good mixture of young and experienced players. It’s impossible in football to click your fingers and go back to the good times and say ‘let’s go back to what it was’, because every season and every situation is different.
“But I feel like there were some values at that time and some culture that really made us achieve the things we did.
“So maybe we’ve lost parts of that over the last few years and it’s about looking back at that and seeing the good things we can take from that and trying to implement that in the future.”
Tottenham are currently competing for a place in the Champions League.

The Lilywhites sit fifth in the Premier League table, six points behind fourth-placed Man Utd.
They are set to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. More

Aston Villa star Alex Moreno reveals key advice Pep Guardiola gave him as Barcelona youth as he prepares to face Man Utd

It came after 17 years without top honours for Betis and Moreno owns a green bracelet that commemorates the win.
Villa’s last major win came in the 1996 League Cup final success against Leeds.
But their boss Unai Emery convinced Moreno to leave Betis for Villa in a £14million January deal with a plan to have them competing for titles again.
Moreno said: “This is the ambition and to fulfil this we have to be focused on the biggest prizes together as one club, not as individuals.

“It is an historical club. Unai explained it, what he envisions and his ambition, and what he aspires to do. That is why I was so keen to join.
“It is a club that’s been away from the highest level for a while and Unai believes we can do big things with this team.”

After a bad start to the term under ex-boss Steven Gerrard, Villa are now sixth with five games left and six points behind today’s hosts Manchester United in fourth.
Moreno’s career has taught him achieving your dreams requires patience.

He signed for Barcelona’s youth set-up aged 17, learning from Pep Guardiola and training with the likes of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi.
Moreno said: “The only words from Guardiola I remember were to listen, enjoy the moment and don’t get too carried away. Feel it, enjoy it and act normal.”
After Barca, he had to forge a career in Spain’s third and second divisions with Mallorca, Rayo Vallecano and Elche before “fighting his way” to La Liga with Betis in 2019.
Moreno said: “To Betis, I owe a lot. They trusted me and I grew there. I played at a high level, Pellegrini made me better.
“I still have a lot of friends there and keep receiving nice messages from them.”
Moreno makes connections with Villa fans through streaming videos and online gaming.
And it has helped that his fine attacking play, which has led to three assists, has become key to Emery’s winning tactics.
The Catalonia-born star is also enjoying his personal life as, just before his arrival at Villa Park, he proposed to his girlfriend at the famous Trevi Fountain in Rome.
But he is missing his two puppies who are back home in Seville and awaiting approved paperwork before they can make the trip to England.
The prospect of a European spot is keeping Villa focused, though and he added: “Five months ago the situation was very different.

“This is a result of the work that has been done together in order to change the situation.
“There is now a possibility for us to finish in Europe but it is about focusing on the next five games, which for us are five finals — and that starts on Sunday.” More

Man Utd legend Wes Brown went bankrupt over huge debt to taxman and car firm after losing millions in property deals

Brown, 43, spent 19 years at Manchester United – coming through the academy to make 262 appearances, winning 11 major trophies.
He also earned 23 senior England caps before finishing his club career with spells at Sunderland, Blackburn and then Kerala Blasters in India.

But according to the Daily Mail, he fell into a six-figure debt with HMRC and failed on car repayments.
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
The report adds that two creditors lobbied for Brown to be made bankrupt.
It is said the former £50,000-a-week ace only owed a few thousand pounds to the car finance firm.
But it was a series of property deals that went wrong and scuppered the 1999 Treble winner, known as one of the nicest men in football.
Brown lived a lavish lifestyle during his 20-year relationship with his wife and the mother of his three children Leanne from Real Housewives of Cheshire.

But their divorce was costly and has left Brown moving into a modest rented pad at ‘mate’s rates’ from United striker Rashford, while former team-mates Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney have been particularly supportive of their pal.

A source told the Mail: “It may seem like Wes was earning big money — to most people he was — but the trouble was he was also trying to keep up with the lifestyle of team-mates earning five or six times more than he was.
“Most of his money disappeared in bad property deals. He overpaid on the farm that Leanne lives in. He spent something like £6million or £7m to buy that.
“They have tried to sell it but haven’t managed to, even after lowering the price to £4.75m. Any money left is tied up in the farm.
“A previous property of theirs was once listed at £4.5m but took seven years to sell, finally going for £2.4million — almost half price.”
The report adds that Leanne thought she was owed a whopping £500,000 from fellow former Housewives co-star Dawn Ward.
However, Brown’s ex-wife is said to have written off that debt.
