Legendary Premier League manager looks unrecognisable in throwback pics as players tell him to bring back flares

A LEGENDARY Premier League manager has stunned fans in throwback pictures showing him wearing a top hat. The gaffer has made his name not just in the top flight of English football but all around the EFL.
A legendary English manager is barely recognisable in younger days as he wears a dapper red suit
This manager has made quite a name for himself in his 40 years of management
His long managerial career started all the way back in 1980 and his successful time in the dugout has seen him win eight promotions with various clubs.
Few bosses can rival that level of success in getting teams up and he even has a knack of rescuing sides from relegation.
Just ask Huddersfield fans who have seen this well-known footy manager arrive in February and put them within a point of survival.
The man in question is of course Neil Warnock who sat down with SunSport to reveal his managerial secrets.

The 74-year-old even shared some old photos that will likely leave fans with their jaws on the floor.
Warnock can be seen in one throwback pic wearing a black top hat and an old-fashioned red jacket.
The young, fresh-faced Warnock looks timid and unassuming as he poses for the camera, which makes a complete contrast to his gruff and hardened image of today.
Another old black-and-white snap also shows Warnock, who was a winger in his playing days, pictured with big bushy hair and a full beard.

He appears to be wearing his York City kit while grimacing at the camera.
Despite his old-school persona, Warnock is not in favour of returning to the fashions of his youth.
He told SunSport: “I wouldn’t bring back flares although one of the lads told me, ‘Gaffer, they’re returning!’”
Warnock first managed Gainsborough Trinity in 1980, the first of 19 clubs he would take over during his astonishing career.
It appeared as though Middlesbrough would be his last last club after he announced his retirement in 2022.
But he surprisingly came out of retirement to take over at relegation-threatened Huddersfield in February.
He has successfully revived the Terriers and yesterday’s win at Cardiff leaves them within touching distance of Championship safety.

I’m an ex-Liverpool defender… Klopp put me up front against Arsenal when I was drunk and we got a last minute equaliser

STEVEN CAULKER has revealed he was left “sh***** himself” before his Liverpool debut – when Jurgen Klopp threw him on as a striker against Arsenal. The defender was a surprise loan signing from QPR in Klopp’s first season as Liverpool manager.
Caulker’s time at Liverpool was short but he was involved in a few dramatic momentsCredit: EPA
But things were not going well off the pitch for the star and he has opened up in recent days over his issue with alcohol.
Caulker had been drinking the night before the Anfield clash with Arsenal and wondered if he was even sober enough to play.
But events would take an even stranger turn when Klopp famously subbed him on to play up front – with Liverpool nicking a dramatic late draw.
Caulker told the popular Under the Cosh podcast: “I was sh***** myself and thought ‘I’m gonna start here.’ Because they had seven centre-halves out injured.

“And I was thinking ‘Oh my God, am I even sober? How the f*** am I going to do this? That train journey up, I was panicking because I hadn’t been taking care of myself, I was a mess.
“I don’t remember who played centre-half but [Klopp] put someone else in. He said to me ‘go warm up’ but we were losing 3-2. But he said ‘no, you’re coming on. I’m going to put you up front’.
“We ended up getting the equaliser and after the game he just came over high-fiving me [and saying] that they all think it’s crazy until it works.”
Caulker made himself a nuisance in the box in his cameo appearance but it was Adam Lallana who volleyed home in the dying seconds of the game.

The two players would also be at the centre of another dramatic finale only 10 days later.
Norwich had drawn level with the Reds at Carrow Road to make it 4-4 in stoppage time.
But then Caulker – again playing in an advanced position – would see his effort blocked before Lallana scored an incredible late winner.
Caulker, now 31, would move to clubs in Scotland and Turkey before eventually coming home earlier this year as he joined Championship side Wigan. More

Man Utd, Newcastle and Spurs in James Maddison transfer race with £60m Leicester star ‘to leave even if they stay up’

JAMES MADDISON is reportedly set to leave Leicester City even if they survive in the Premier League. The Foxes are currently 18th in the top-flight ahead of tonight’s crunch relegation showdown with Everton at the King Power Stadium.

Their 26-year-old talisman has endured a difficult campaign on the injury front, but he has still managed to fire in nine goals and provide seven assists.
However, despite being the frontrunner to claim their player of the year prize, the Telegraph claims that his five-year spell at Leicester will come to an end this summer.
The club desperately need to balance their books following a record £92.5m loss in their financial accounts and Maddison is their biggest saleable asset.
Maddison is also about to enter the final 12 months of his contract, which means this is the last opportunity for Leicester to cash-in rather than risk losing him for nothing next year.

And he has a host of teams chasing his services including Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle.
The Magpies have been long-time admirers of Maddison and even lodged two bids worth £40million and £45m last summer.

However, both offers were turned down and the player stayed put.
Since then Maddison has gone on to enjoy a fine campaign with the struggling Foxes and earned a place in Gareth Southgate’s England World Cup squad.

Newcastle are set to make a renewed attempt to bring him to the North East and look certain to be able to offer the attacker the prospect of Champions League football.
But so do United, and both are expected to table bids of between £45m and £60m for him.
Managerless Tottenham also want the ace, and they are believed to be readying a move of their own to try and snatch him from their rivals.
The former Coventry City and Norwich man was also recently likened to Man City’s £100m man Jack Grealish, who boss Dean Smith managed previously at Aston Villa.
Smith said: “I think they are different types of players but they both know they’ve got ability and want to push themselves to become the best.
“I think when you’ve got players that have that personality and character they push you as coaches and you want to go and help them become better players. James seems to have that as well.
“He’s always looking to see what he can do better. He’s really engaging in the meetings we have and tactical meetings, and very vocal as well. I can see that similarity (with Grealish) of wanting to push himself.
“I’m liking what I’m seeing in training so far and he’s not disappointed in the games either. All the players are really focused and James is certainly one of them.” More

Klopp outraged refs’ bosses with his claim that Tierney was biased against his side.
That came despite Tierney leaving Spurs boss Ryan Mason incandescent for not dismissing match winner Diogo Jota for splitting Oliver Skipp’s head open with a high boot
Klopp went before the Sky cameras to claim: “We have our history with Tierney, I really don’t know what he has against us.
“He has said there [are] no problems but that cannot be true.”

Klopp’s comments seemed a blatant breach of FA rules
The German was booked for celebrating Jota’s winner by steaming up to fourth official John Brooks.
And while Klopp escaped with a caution rather than a red card, PGMOL bosses are furious.
In a strongly-worded and unusual statement, a spokesman said: “PGMOL is aware of the comments made by Jurgen Klopp after his side’s fixture with Tottenham Hotspur.

“Having fully reviewed the audio of referee Paul Tierney from today’s fixture, we can confirm he acted in a professional manner throughout including when issuing the caution to the Liverpool manager.

The FA is now under pressure to act and clamp down on Klopp. More

And supporters reckon there’s a sickening culture of failure after Spurs blew an amazing comeback at Anfield.
After fighting back from 3-0 down to level in stoppage time, Tottenham saw Diogo Jota fire Liverpool to victory.
One fan posted: “Easy to play when the pressure is off at 3 nil. Turn up when it matters for a change.”
And another claimed: “The key question is how in the hell did Conte manage to finish 4th with these bunch of losers?”

Spurs sacked interim chief Cristian Stellini last week and handed Ryan Mason his second temporary stint in charge.
And they were flattered by the scoreline at Liverpool, even if it needed Jiota to end their recovery by rifling home on 94 minutes.
Star man Harry Kane went level with Wayne Rooney on 208 in the all-time Prem scoring charts, behind only Alan Shearer’s 260 goals.

And many fans say they wouldn’t blame Kane if he did leave.
One said of Tottenham’s latest demise: “We come back to this every week, it’s always the same old story.”
Another said: “Conte recognised and called out the owners in a way most of our fans have simply refused to do in years.”
Conte had blasted Spurs on and off the field in an infamous press conference last month.
He said: “They are used to it here. They do not want to play under pressure. They do NOT want to play under stress.
“Tottenham’s story is this – 20 years there is the owner & they never won something. Why!?”” More

But Liverpool then went straight up the other end and won the game 4-3 thanks to Diogo Jota’s dramatic strike in the dying moments.
And Klopp celebrated by storming up to fourth official John Brooks and staring him down – while also hurting his leg in the process.
He was subsequently booked for his actions, explaining after the game that he feels ref Tierney has an issue with him.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “We have our history with Tierney, I really don’t know what he has against us.

“What he said to me when he gave me the yellow card is not OK.”
Klopp has history with Tierney as he previously got angry at the official in the wake of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw away at Tottenham in December 2021.

In that incident, Klopp could be heard telling him: “I have no problem with any referees, it’s only you.”
Spurs interim boss Ryan Mason was also left fuming with Tierney as he felt Jota’s kick to the head of Oliver Skipp should have been a red card.
He said: “It’s probably the clearest red card you will see on the football pitch.
“I have to be careful what I see but ultimately that’s an impossible one to miss.
“When you talk about endangering an opponent, to draw blood from a stud when his head if 5.5ft in the air just baffles me.
“That type of decision is the difference between winning the game or not.

And Etihad chief Pep Guardiola has openly claimed that Walker cannot play in his new system.
But it’s understood the 76-cap star would still prefer to see out the final year of his  £150,000-a-week deal.
Walker’s admirers might also be put off by a possible fee of up to £25million for the ex-Tottenham ace.
Nonetheless, the Daily Star say Villa have joined a string of clubs showing interest in him.

Walker has lost his regular City place this season, although Guardiola has stressed it’s down to tactics not form.
The Etihad chief now plays with two full-backs who can move inwards to virtually become midfielders when the title favourites press forward.
Guardiola said: “He cannot do it. To play inside you have to make some educated movements.
“He has other characteristics. He will always have pace. He will be the fastest in this room at 60 years old.

“The reason why is tactical. It’s not because we lost faith in Kyle.”
Guardiola toned down that verdict by adding: “He can play coming inside and he has done it many times, but like in the position he will maybe need time to do it and we don’t have time.”
And he even softened his clear opinion further by not ruling out a future role for Walker.
He said: “What they have to do is two things. Don’t complain or there will be a problem. And try to do it better and better so when I need them, they will be ready.
“Look at Nathan Ake this season. Last season he didn’t play one minute and now he is undroppable.” More
