Tottenham ‘to go toe-to-toe with arch-rivals Arsenal in shock transfer race for England star’

TOTTENHAM are ready to rival Arsenal in the race to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, according to reports.Spurs are desperate to bolster their leaky defence under a new manager next term.

The North Londoners have already conceded 57 goals in the Premier League this season, including 15 in their last four games alone.
According to the Standard, Tottenham have identified Guehi as an ideal summer addition.
The former Chelsea starlet has shone for Palace this term, earning an England recall in March.
Guehi, 22, arrived at Selhurst Park from the Blues in an £18million switch in 2021, and would likely fetch the Eagles significantly more than that sum now.

Cristian Romero and Eric Dier have been in poor form for Ryan Mason’s side, while Clement Lenglet’s loan from Barcelona is set to expire.
Tottenham are set to face stiff competition from fierce rivals Arsenal for Guehi’s signature.

The Gunners are looking to bolster their centre-back options, having struggled without injured William Saliba.
Rob Holding has not been up to scratch, while £20m January signing Jakub Kiwior is yet to earn Mikel Arteta’s full trust.

Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit hits out at Gunners’ transfer activity and questions ‘mistake’ of signing flop

ARSENAL legend Emmanuel Petit has hit out at the club’s transfer activity and questioned the “mistake” of one flop signing. The Gunners take on Chelsea tonight at the Emirates as they look to reignite their faltering title hopes.

Arsenal had put themselves in an unbelievable position to finally lift their first league championship since the Invincibles in 2004 and have been top of almost all of the season.
But things began to change last Wednesday when Kevin De Bruyne’s double and an Erling Haaland masterclass put Manchester City in the driver’s seat despite sitting in second place.
Pep Guardiola’s side followed up that 4-1 triumph over Arsenal and then took top place with a 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday.
Despite their title dreams appearing to go up in smoke, it has still been a memorable campaign for Arteta and his young squad with a return to the Champions League confirmed for next season.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
However Petit, who won the Double at Arsenal and later played for Chelsea, thinks it could have been better as he hit out at one big “mistake” Arteta made in the transfer market.
The French star told Compare.bet: “I don’t think Fabio Vieira has shown as of yet, that he is the right level to play for Arsenal.

“When he signed I thought to myself ‘this guy looks very lightweight for the Premier League’. I don’t think he’s ready for the Premier League physically and mentally.”
The Portuguese playmaker, 22, is still acclimatising to the ferocious pace of the top flight after his £30m summer switch from Porto last summer.

He has made 31 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions but has scored just twice.
Petit added: “You can also say that he’s struggled not getting consistent game time and when you compare him to Emile Smith-Rowe, who I think has a future with Arsenal, he’s not the same.
“Respectfully, I think it was perhaps a mistake signing Vieira.”
And he was not the only one to feel the wrath of the ex-midfielder.
Rob Holding has deputised in central defence alongside Gabriel since William Saliba was injured last month.
And Petit added: “I can see Gabriel doesn’t have the same confidence when he plays with Holding, he looks like a different defender.
“Defensively Arsenal are not as strong when Saliba and Gabriel do not play together, it impacts on the rest of the team, they don’t play the same way.
“[Ben] White and [Oleksandr] Zinchenko don’t attack enough when Saliba isn’t there. It affects them mentally and with their confidence, they miss him when he’s not there.
“I don’t want to criticise Holding, he puts in a lot of effort and has done his very best, but if you want to win titles I think it’s difficult for Holding to play every game as he’s been required recently.”

LAURA WOODS struggled to hold back tears as a Leeds fan embarked on an epic rant on talkSPORT over the potential appointment of Sam Allardyce.A report emerged earlier that the Elland Road club “have sacked Javi Gracia” after just 11 matches in charge and are set to hire Big Sam to try and save them.

“I’m sick of being a Leeds fan!” 😡😓“What’s the point in getting Sam Allardyce? These clowns may as well sell the club.”This #LUFC fan demands the club has a complete reset and gets new ownership. 😱 pic.twitter.com/921t761Ftd— talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) May 2, 2023

The Spaniard replaced Jesse Marsch in the dug-out in February but he has won just three of his 11 matches in charge.
Sunday’s 4-1 defeat at Bournemouth was the club’s five-straight loss and only goal difference separates them from 18th-placed Nottingham Forest.
Now owner Andrea Radrizzani, who told a fan that he is “responsible for this s***” after Leeds suffered a fifth-straight defeat, will pull the trigger with just four games left to save their Premier League status.
We revealed last night that Allarduce was a shock candidate to take over.

Relegation specialist Big Sam, 68, has been out of management for two years after last working at West Brom.
The former England boss has worked for several Premier League clubs over an illustrious career, including Bolton and West Ham, and has a reputation for swooping in to save clubs from the drop.
Although his last rescue attempt, when he arrived at West Brom midway through the 2020-21 season saw the club relegated to the Championship.
And one fan reacted to the news by launching a stunning rant live on talkSPORT.

They began by saying: “Well I’ve stopped crying anyway.”
That instantly sent Arsenal fan Woods and co-host Ally McCoist into hysterics.
They continued: “Sam Allardyce, what’s the point? Four games left, paying somebody a load of money just on a hope and a prayer that we’re going to get a result at West Ham.
“These clowns! Radz, should just sell the club now, let’s get the [San Francisco] 49ers in, spend the money on a proper manager, instead of these sausages.”
He then went on to blast “sicknote” striker Patrick Bamford for his glaring miss against Leicester last week, saying: “He looked like Peter Crouch had shrunk in the wash and tripped over his shoe-laces.”
The laughter continued to fill the studio as Woods and McCoist struggled to hold back, and it got even harder towards the end of the call.
The fan added: “I get kinky time off my wife when Leeds get a result. I haven’t been to second base in months.”
And that sparked even more laughter from the hosts as they struggled to get any words out as the fan finished by demanding that the club should “start from scratch”. More

Icardi, 30, has a year left on his contract. However, his PSG prospects are bleak faced with competition from Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar.
The eight-cap international is on a season-long loan to Galatasaray.
He has scored 14 goals in 19 games, setting up seven more, to help the Istanbul giants top the Super Lig.
Reports in Turkey now claim Fulham sources have said a deal is in place to sign Icardi during the summer.

The west Londoners are thought ready to pay PSG around £13million for the frontman.
Turkish outlet AsMarca.tr claim Icardi is close to agreeing personal terms with Fulham officials.

One fan fumed: “If Fulham even entertain buying Mauro Icardi all those responsible need to be dragged to the coast and fired from a cannon into the North Sea, we won’t be having any of that foolishness here.”
A second said: “I really do not want Icardi at Fulham! Waste of money in my opinion! It could be less spent on a player Marco [Silva] can develop tbh.”
While a third added: “Icardi brings circus levels of distractions….not sure he’s the answer to any question Fulham have.”
The former Sampdoria and Inter Milan ace has five major trophies with PSG and a host of individual prizes in Italy.

GRAEME SOUNESS has revealed his favourite pundits following his Sky Sports retirement. The Scot announced after Liverpool’s 4-3 victory over Tottenham on Sunday that it would be his last live broadcast.

Upon hanging up the mic, Souness chatted with Simon Jordan to lift the lid on his punditry secrets.
Asked to name the pundits he likes while chatting to William Hill show Up Front, Souness said: “I like Roy (Keane). I like listening to Roy.”
When Jordan pressed him for who else he likes, Souness revealed his nickname for Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.
He added: “The Chuckle Brothers can be entertaining.”

The 69-year-old then continued: “I think Gary Neville and Carragher can be entertaining. It makes me chuckle anyway.”
Souness was then asked what Keane was like during Man United’s 7-0 humiliation at Anfield earlier this season.
He responded: “I think Roy was boiling inside but took it gracefully.
“He knew his team hadn’t turned up, they’d been miserable.”

Provocatively asked about Neville’s political statements, with the ex-full-back having joined the Labour Party last year, Souness was initially coy.
He then admitted: “I think he does overstep the mark with some of these crusades that he goes on.”
Souness fought back tears as he announced his retirement from Sky Sports after 15 years last Sunday.
Speaking about his decision, he said: “I’m going to miss you guys, the guys behind the scenes, our makeup girl, I’ll miss you all.
“You know, for me, I decided that football management wasn’t for me anymore. I had the wrong temperament for it, the wrong personality.
“And then I was given the opportunity to do this and it’s been magnificent. It’s just been the most fantastic time for me, because I love football, I care about football and I worry about it going forward.
“But in Sky’s hands, it’s in good hands, safe hands, and I think over the years we’ve created a Premier League with great detail and I think we look after football very well.
“But for me personally, I’ve got the buzz of live football coming to some fantastic games and some fantastic stadiums and some great events.
“I think I owe 100 apologies to people, but we haven’t got time for that.”

Which teams have the most favourable Dream Team fixtures this May? Manchester City twice as busy as other teams

IT’S coronation season here in the United Kingdom and there’s a crown poised above Pep Guardiola’s head.Manchester City have finally overtaken Arsenal at the top of the Premier League and the Etihad residents have a game a hand on their title rivals as well.
Not only that, City remain active in the Champions League and the FA Cup as they chase an historic treble.
Naturally, Dream Team gaffers will want to stack their teams full of Guardiola’s troops this month but it’s always wise to analyse the schedule before committing to a strategy.
With that in mind, let’s run through May’s fixtures for the current top eight teams…

    Leeds (h)
    Real Madrid (a)
    Everton (a)
    Real Madrid (h)
    Chelsea (h)
    Brighton (a)
    Brentford (a)

On current form there’s no possible match-up that will intimidate Erling Haaland (£10.2m) and company but a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid, the undisputed masters of the competition, promises to be highly competitive.
It’s worth noting that the Hammers’ visit to Manchester takes place on Wednesday night as part of Game Week 32, prior to May’s transfer refresh.
Brace yourself for gargantuan returns for those fixtures against Leeds and Everton, those encounters could get very messy for the relegation candidates.

    Nottingham Forest (a)
    Wolves (h)

Once again, the Gunners take on the Blues tonight in their first Game Week 32 fixture meaning they will have just four games remaining after this month’s transfer refresh.
An away day at St James’ Park followed by a game against the free-scoring Seagulls represents a tricky double header for Mikel Arteta’s men but they should finish strong against Forest and Wolves.
Many Dream Team bosses will be swapping their Arsenal assets for City equivalents this coming Friday.

    NEWCASTLE

    Arsenal (h)
    Leeds (a)
    Brighton (h)
    Leicester (h)
    Chelsea (a)

The Magpies’ testing fixtures against Arsenal and Brighton are offset by games against three teams who have desperately struggled in recent weeks.
Eddie Howe’s men have scored 20 goals in their last six outings with the likes of Callum Wilson (£4.1m) and Alexander Isak (£4.2m) plundering plenty of points of late.
    MANCHESTER UNITED

    Brighton (a)
    West Ham (a)
    Wolves (h)
    Bournemouth (a)
    Chelsea (h)
    Fulham (h)

Erik ten Hag’s side travel to the south coast this week so gaffers predominantly thinking of post-transfer refresh plans should focus on the fixtures from West Ham onwards.
All things considered, it’s a favourable set of match-ups from Game Week 32 until the season’s end in the form of teams safe from relegation but too far from European qualification – on-the-beach teams tend to give up points at the end of term.
Man United also have the FA Cup final to play in JuneCredit: GETTY
    LIVERPOOL

    Fulham (h)
    Brentford (h)
    Leicester (a)
    Aston Villa (h)
    Southampton (a)

It’s a similar story for the Merseysiders who, aside from Villa, face nothing but unmotivated mid-table opponents or relegation fodder.
The Reds have underwhelmed this season but the likes of Diogo Jota (£4.4m), Mohamed Salah (£8.5m) and Cody Gakpo (£4m) have shared loads of goals around between them this past month.
    Clean sheets remain elusive, however.
    TOTTENHAM

    Crystal Palace (h)
    Aston Villa (a)
    Brentford (h)
    Leeds (a)

Just four fixtures remain for a club who desperately want the season to end.
Harry Kane (£8.9m) continues to provide healthy returns for his backers but only a brave (or naive) Dream Team manager will be thinking about bringing in more Spurs players as the campaign concludes.
    ASTON VILLA
Ollie Watkins has blanked in three consecutive fixturesCredit: GETTY

    Wolves (a)
    Spurs (h)
    Liverpool (a)
    Brighton (h)

Unai Emery’s side are in much better form than Spurs but still their point-scoring opportunities are limited to just four fixtures.
And it’s a relatively difficult quartet of match-ups as well.
Ollie Watkins (£6.4m) has been sensational since the World Cup but it’s worth flagging that he’s blanked in his last three games.
    BRIGHTON

    Man United (h)
    Everton (h)
    Arsenal (a)
    Newcastle (a)
    Southampton (h)
    Man City (h)
    Aston Villa (a)

With seven fixtures to play (six after transfers are replenished) only Man City are busier before than Roberto De Zerbi’s side from now until the end of the season.

Brighton’s midfield crop of Solly March (£4.7m), Kaoru Mitoma (£4.6m), Pascal Gross (£3m) and Alexis Mac Allister (£3.4m) have registered 517 points between them in 2022/23.
However, while the Seagulls have an appealing number of games at their disposal, the majority of them promise to be challenging tests in between respites against the Toffees and Saints. More

However, his joy was short-lived as Liverpool went straight up the other end to win it as Diogo Jota sealed a 4-3 triumph.
That sparked wild celebrations, including from Klopp, who appeared to suffer a freak injury during the pandemonium.
The atmosphere on the Kop afterwards was electric as fans serenaded both the players and their manager.
And they celebrated Klopp by chanting his song to the tune of The Beatles hit “I Feel Fine”.

“Pretty much everyone misunderstood it, everybody.”
He then added: “My song, don’t sing it. If you want to sing it, sing it after the game in the bar, wherever.
