Skipper Declan Rice as well as Tomas Soucek and Nayef Aguerd were all missing from the matchday squad when the team news dropped an hour before kick-off.
The trio would all have started the match against the reigning Premier League champions.
Rice had played every minute of West Ham’s 33 league games this season but was sent back to London this afternoon along with fellow midfielder Soucek and defender Aguerd.
Kurt Zouma is also out through injury.

And their absences will be a crushing blow for David Moyes’ side.
To make matters worse, the Hammers only filled seven of the nine spots on the bench – and two of those were goalkeepers in Alphonse Areola and Joseph Anang.
Flynn Downes partners Lucas Paqueta in midfield while defenders Vladimir Coufal, Thilo Kehrer, Angelo Ogbonna, Aaron Cresswell and Emerson Palmieri start.

City know they will return top of the table with a win, while the three points would virtually secure West Ham’s Premier League survival.
But they will have to try and do it without their influential stars.
Moyes told Sky Sports: “Unfortunately overnight three of the players took ill so we had to change it around.
“Hopefully it’s not too bad, the sickness.
“Obviously, we had named some of the players not here in the side.
“Two or three are unwell and there’s nothing we can do about it.
“It only happened today, we sent them home at 2pm.
“It was too late to bring any of the younger boys up.
“It was always going to be tough, we will try and make it as difficult as we can.
“Anything out of the game will be a bonus.”
Pundit Gary Neville added: “I’ve not had anything like that I can remember.

CHELSEA have reportedly completed their 17th signing of the season. The Blues have found that spending £600million-plus on talent does not necessarily equate to performances on the pitch.
Norwich youngster Alex Matos has reportedly ‘completed’ a transfer to Chelsea
However, it has not deterred them from continuing to bring in fresh faces.
The latest reported acquisition Todd Bohely and Co have made will see Alex Matos join the club on a free transfer.

It was reported last month how Chelsea were in “advanced talks” to sign the prodigy.

Born in 2004, Matos joined the Canaries from Luton in 2016 at Under 12 level.
He signed a scholarship with the club in 2021 and he has been a regular for Norwich’s Under 18 side this season.

The winger has appeared eight times in the Under 18 Premier League, scoring and assisting once each.
Chelsea’s trigger-happy approach to transfers in their senior squad has caused chaos behind the scenes, with Graham Potter being forced to make a number of stars change in the corridor despite making the dressing room bigger.
Frank Lampard has since taken over the helm, but things have only gotten worse with six defeats on the spin under the interim boss following the latest lacklustre performance against Arsenal.
Reacting to the news, one fan online joked: “Have to make the dressing room bigger again.”
A second said: “Chelsea completing more transfers than wins this season.”
While a third added: “Oh boy another kid because we lost yesterday 😍.” More

    Haaland reacts:
“Special night. A special moment, I am really happy and proud, what more is there to say?”
“Of course I knew about it, we tried to create the chances to score goals, but they didn’t make it easy, they came to defend for 90 minutes.”
“Me and Jack spoke before the game, he said he wanted to give me the assist for the record breaking goal. Perfect ball from Jack.”
“I was really grateful for the guard of honour, everyone hit me in the back, but I am really lucky.”
“I’ll go home now, play some video games, eat something and then sleep, that is what I will do.”
Erling Haaland reflected on his record breaking goal with Sky SportsCredit: Getty
    And on Erling Haaland:
Guardiola then reflected on Erling Haaland breaking the record and the Norweigan forward’s impact on his side…
“He is unbelievable, how many goals he has already scored to help us to win games.
“He is a unique person, the person is so special and he deserves the guard of honour that we have done to him because it is an incredible milestone.
“Maybe one day he will break his record, but yes he has scored a lot of goals”
Pep Guardiola reflects on the game:
“Really pleased, five games left, one of the games we had in hand we have used it well.”
“Now we recover quick, for Saturday at 3pm against Sam Allardyce.”
“In the second half John (Stones) helped us a lot to attack better down the right hand side (…) We were a little bit anxious in the first half in the defence, and the defenders were making stupid fouls, but that is the reality and in general with this amount of games sometimes you drop a little bit.”
“In the end we had much more chances than them, and it is three more points, we keep going.”
    Two more to go…
Erling Haaland has scored against 17 Premier League teams so far this campaign in all competitions.
The only two he hasn’t scored against are Brentford and Chelsea.
There is still time, as he faces both of those teams before the end of the season.
    He couldn’t, could he?
Of course he could, he is Erling Haaland.
    Record breaking Haaland
You have to be some player to be given your own guard of honour at the end of a Premier League game.
But that is exactly what Erling Haaland is, a special, special player.
Tonight he scored a delightful chip to break the record for the most goals scored by a Premier League player in a single season, it was his 35th league goal this campaign.
That takes him to 51 so far for the season in all competitions, and there are still games to go!
    He is simply a sensation.

    69. Manchester City 1-0 West Ham
Alvarez has another go from distance, but this time it is within reach for Fabianski, and the Polish stopper makes an easy enough stop.
It is West Ham’s turn to come forward now, and Paqueta shows some lovely footwork on the edge of the box, not for the first time tonight.
    68. Manchester City 1-0 West Ham
Michail Antonio’s game has come to an end, as he is replaced by Danny Ings for West Ham.
Antonio looks disappointed to be coming off, and rightly so, he has caused Ruben Dias problems tonight…
    67. Manchester City 1-0 West Ham
The free-kick is crossed in by Julian Alvarez, but high and wide over the crossbar.
    Waste.
    65. Manchester City 1-0 West Ham
Jack Grealish wins a foul from Ben Johnson deep in the attacking third.
    62. Manchester City 1-0 West Ham
Vladimir Coufal looks as though he has got a hamstring injury, and goes down to be swapped off the pitch for Ben Johnson.
    60. Manchester City 1-0 West Ham
West Ham have shown a bit of purpose since going a goal down, and they get down the right hand side with Coufal here.
He crosses towards the back post, but it is cleared for a corner by Kyle Walker.

A NEW report in France has claimed that a Champions League-chasing side will make Wilfried Zaha their “priority signing” if they qualify. The 30-year-old’s £130,000 a week five-year deal at Crystal Palace expires this summer.

He is wanted by several high-profile clubs across Europe.
And Palace have rejected offers for him in the past, with Arsenal previously making a move in the summer of 2019.
We revealed how the Eagles have made one more bid to keep Zaha by offering him £200,000-a-week to stay.
That would make him by far Palace’s highest-paid player in their history, and tie him down for four more years.

However, they now appear to be facing a fresh fight to hang on to their star man.
Foot Mercato are claiming that Ligue 1 side Marseille are now plotting a swoop.
They state that Zaha, who has appeared over 400 times for Palace, will reject a £9m-a-year offer from Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Ittihad.
And after his entourage opened talks with Marseille last month, this fresh update claims that they remain ongoing.

Marseille president Pablo Longoria and sporting director Javier Ribalta are reportedly “ready to move heaven and earth” to complete the deal.

And Zaha is allegedly “very interested” in the move – but he has made playing in next season’s Champions League his main ambition as he decides on his future.
The Ivory Coast international will now be Marseille’s “priority signing” should they qualify for Europe’s most elite club competition.
They are second in the Ligue 1 standings with five games left to play, which would ensure them a direct path into the group stages. More

Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim is hoping to complete a full takeover of United after submitting a new bid at the end of April.
The Middle Eastern banker hopes to see off interest from British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
And Bild claims Sheikh Jassim has big plans for the Red Devils should he replace the Glazers this summer.
The ambitious tycoon is hoping to land not one, not two, but THREE members of France’s squad who finished runners-up in December’s World Cup.

The top name on Sheikh Jassim’s list is Paris Saint-Germain superstar Mbappe, who has 35 goals this season.
The 24-year-old only signed a new contract with the Ligue 1 champs last year and reportedly pockets a mammoth £5.3million each month.
Sheikh Jassim also hopes to bolster Erik ten Hag’s midfield with the capture of Eduardo Camavinga, 20.

But he could jump at the chance to re-establish himself as a midfielder after being deployed at left-back for most of the season.
Real are also confident of winning the race for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
And that would likely relegate Camavinga to an even lower spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield pecking order.
The last player on Sheikh Jassim’s list is winger Kingsley Coman.
Despite only being 26 years old, he has already won titles in numerous countries with Bayern Munich, Juventus and PSG.
And Coman would likely solve United’s problem right-hand side, with Antony and Jadon Sancho both struggling to impress consistently following their own big-money moves.
The reports of Sheikh Jassim targeting the trio come after The Sun revealed Neymar was a top target for the mega rich banker.

We recently caught up with Miriam Chisholm, who performed brilliantly to win January’s monthly competition!
“I’m not sure I can quite believe it, to be honest. It’s a huge surprise because, although I knew I was close, I thought it ended when January ended! I think it just goes to show it’s good to keep going with all your teams – the monthly prize is a nice touch.
“I think most people had brought in the Newcastle defence along with the Kane/Haaland/Rashford combo up top, so it was just midfield I concentrated on. I picked three of the usual names and tried to go with a flyer as the fourth – James Ward-Prowse then Casemiro. Guess my luck was in!”
    Good luck! More
