ERIK TEN HAG stunned Paul Ince and baffled many viewers by handing the pundit a bottle of wine live on Sky Sports. The Manchester United chief acted after Ince claimed the Red Devils showed him a “lack of respect” by not inviting him for a drink when he bossed Reading at Old Trafford in the FA Cup three months ago.

The former United and Liverpool midfielder looked “embarrassed” as a smiling Ten Hag made the gesture in a pre-match interview for Thursday night’s Premier League clash at Brighton.
“I owe him one,” said a beaming Ten Hag as Ince put his arm round the Dutchman and replied: “That’s so kind.”
The ex-England star suggested the pair should share it after United win the FA Cup – with only the final to come against neighbours City on June 3.
Some curious fans were keen to know why Ten Hag had made the gift to Ince.

“Any context?” was a popular response.
But all observers seemed to agree that Ten Hag was a “class act”.
One said: “Literally have no choice but to Love ETH.”
And another, noticing the former Blackburn chief’s bashful reactions, posted: “Ahhh, Ince is so embarrassed, he doesn’t know where to look does he.”

Ince had hit out following Reading’s 3-1 third-round loss on January 28.
He claimed he was “disappointed” he and his family were not asked in for a glass of wine or even a cuppa, whereas legendary ex-manager Alex Ferguson invited him to meet
He said: “Whoever it is, win, lose or draw, you say pop in for a drink.
“Whether it’s wine or tea it doesn’t really matter.
“None of their staff did that so that was disappointing.
“I couldn’t give a monkey’s but I just pride it on myself, as a manager, whether or not you get beaten, you say come in for a glass of wine.”
At the time Ten Hag was furious with Reading’s physical approach – especially a challenge from Andy Carroll that sidelined Christian Eriksen for three months.
He said:  “This is a tackle – and the two tackles after it – that don’t belong on a pitch. Because there is a high risk of injuring your colleague.
“So, it’s worse and I’m left wondering about that.”

Bruce, 62, wore the captain’s armband for much of the season as club skipper Bryan Robson was left sidelined with injury.
But the pair lifted the Premier League trophy together at Old Trafford in what was Man Utd’s first league title since 1967.
And Bruce has now spoken about the scenes after the triumph, confirming England captain Robson led the clean-up the following morning.
Speaking to The Athletic he said: “We had a great time and it was a great time.

“There was so much pressure on us. Man United not being champions for 26 years… incredible.
“My neighbours came to the party — Janice and Phil from across the road. They brought a bottle and joined right in.
“Everyone brought drinks, it was spontaneous. There were probably 60 at the party. Every player came.
“I went to bed at two, maybe three. I was woken up when I heard this clinking noise — bottles being put away. I thought, ‘Surely someone is still not at it’.

“I went downstairs. It was 7am. Bryan Robson, the captain of England no less, was tidying up with his wife Denise. Robbo was mopping, Denise doing the dishes.
“They’d slept in the spare room, though I’m not sure they went to bed. I need to ask them.”
Bruce would go on to win two more Premier League titles with Man Utd before departing in 1996.
But Robson left two years earlier in 1994 after United’s second successive league triumph.
Meanwhile, head coach Ferguson finished his 27 years in charge at Old Trafford with an astonishing 13 Premier League titles.

After Haaland’s 35th league goal, Gary Lineker tweeted: “A Premier League record for @ErlingHaaland. 35 goals. That’s nuts.
“Thoughts are with @alanshearer at this difficult time.”

Manager who Tottenham turned down throws hat in the ring for West Ham job if club sack David Moyes

PAULO FONSECA remains interested in the West Ham job should David Moyes depart. The Hammers have identified the Portuguese coach – who is currently at Ligue 1 club Lille – as a potential replacement.

Moyes, 60, recently revealed he is already planning for next season – but there are question marks over his long-term future after a poor Premier League campaign.
And SunSport understands that Fonseca, 50, is keeping an eye on the situation in East London from afar.
It is also understood that Fonseca is open to leaving Lille this summer should he not receive assurances over available transfer funds, despite being under contract until 2024.
Jobless pair Graham Potter and Brendan Rodgers, as well as Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, have also been linked.
    Read More Football
Fonseca came close joining West Ham in 2018 at the end of Moyes’ first spell, meeting with owner David Sullivan, only for Manuel Pellegrini to take over for a brief stint.
Since then, he has managed Roma and then Lille, taking the latter from 10th to fifth this season – yet they are still 10 points off a Champions League spot with five games left.
Fonseca is known for his attacking style of play, one which almost saw him land the Tottenham job in 2021 only for negotiations to break down late on.
The message from inside West Ham is that Moyes is expected to be in charge next season – yet this is largely dependent on results in their final four games.

Despite spending £160m last summer, relegation is still on the cards after Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City, sitting in 15th just four points above the bottom three.
The run-in is a tricky one, welcoming Manchester United to the London Stadium on Sunday before a trip to Brentford followed by two defining clashes against 17th-placed Leeds and 16th-placed Leicester.
West Ham are also tipped to reach the Europa Conference League final with this month’s semi-final versus AZ Alkmaar considered a favourable one.
Lifting the club’s first piece of silverware since 1980 – and securing European football for a third successive year – could buy Moyes more time.
However, fans are wary that Moyes would then be entrusted with yet another squad rebuild, especially given the fact skipper Declan Rice is likely to leave for a hefty fee. More

Roma ‘slash transfer price of Man Utd target Tammy Abraham and are willing to let him go in summer’

ROMA are reportedly willing to sell Tammy Abraham for a cut price amid interest from Manchester United. It was claimed last month that the Italian giants are holding out for £70million – the value of Chelsea’s buy-back clause.

But now it is understood he could be offloaded for just £39.5m.
According to Calcio Mercato, Jose Mourinho’s men would be open to selling Abraham for little more than the £35m they paid Chelsea in 2021.
It comes following a difficult season for the ex-Blues man in which he has scored nine times in 46 appearances.
That is a significant drop off from the 27 goals he registered in his first campaign in Italy.

Speaking about his recent struggles, Abraham said: “I know I haven’t been the real me, I know I haven’t been playing the best I can be, but I am human at the end of the day.
“I’ve been low in confidence, but today I had to show the fans I’m still me and I am still willing to fight for the team and do as much as I can for the team.”
Yet despite his poor form, Man Utd, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain are all reportedly interested in the 11-cap England man.
But the Red Devils are also looking at alternative options – namely Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Meet Tom ‘Pongo’ Waring, the last top-flight star to score 50 goals in a season.. nearly a CENTURY before Erling Haaland

ASK AI to design the exact opposite of Erling Haaland and Tom “Pongo” Waring might be the result.Except for a magical figure, achieved 92 years apart, bonding the supreme lean machine with a Merseysider nicknamed after a dopey dog.

Aston Villa legend Waring was the last player before the Manchester City superstar to bag 50 club goals in a top-flight season.
But  modern-day monsters like the Norwegian hero might shudder if they heard of Waring’s lifestyle.
The Times claim he’d hunt for any beer left on the terraces when he turned up for training on Mondays.
And he was more down to earth than down the gym.
    Read More in Football
Such was his rapport with fans, 23,000 watched his debut for Villa RESERVES after he signed for £4,700 from Tranmere in 1928.
Born in Birkenhead – as was Everton’s scoring sensation Dixie Dean – Waring even combined football with work for the The Hercules Motor and Cycle Company in Aston.
He was famously scared of no-one and never doubted his ability – understandably for someone on his mighty club wages of… 30 shillings a week!
Waring told Arsenal boss Herbert Chapman in 1931: “You’d like to buy me, Herbert, wouldn’t you? I am better than any of your lot.”

And when his own Villa manager lambasted him for failing to help out his midfield, he responded: “If you want me to do two jobs you can pay me 60 shillings a game.”
The club’s then-skipper Billy Walker wrote in his autobiography: “There were no rules for Pongo.
“Nobody knew what time he would turn up for training—ten o’clock, eleven o’clock, twelve o’clock.”
And in the days well before energy drinks perhaps Pongo was ahead of his time – at least if you interpret another Walker anecdote extremely generously.
The ex-England inside forward revealed Waring would “go round all the refreshment bars on the ground and finish off the lemonade” left by customers.
Pongo’s half-century of goals came in 1930-31, with 49 in the old First Division when Villa were runners-up to Arsenal and one in the FA Cup.
In contrast, Haaland has notched 34 Premier League goals, plus three in the FA Cup, one in the EFL and 12 in the Champions League… with potentially nine more games to come.
Waring finished with 167 goals in all for Villa from 1928-35, also netting four in five matches for England.
And whatever other goal records Haaland goes on to achieve in England it’s unlikely he’ll do it with such an array of clubs as Pongo.
Those included Barnsley, Wolves, Accrington Stanley, Bath City, Graysons, Birkenhead Docks, Harrowby, New Brighton and Ellesmere Port Town.
And when he died aged 74 in December 1980, his ashes were scattered in Villa’s Holte End goalmouth before a game with Stoke City.
