Tottenham’s all-time top scorer, 29, headed in to earn a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
That was his 209th strike in the Premier League, moving him one clear of Rooney on 208.
But Kane has done it in just 317 appearances – whereas Rooney played 491 times in England’s top flight.
And the current Three Lions captain, who is also our country’s all-time top scorer, is now just 51 goals behind Alan Shearer’s all-time record of 260 goals.

Manchester United have made the star one of their top summer transfer targets as Kane’s future remains in the spotlight.
It has been another year of disappointment for him at club level and he is still yet to win a trophy during his incredible career.
He only has a year left on his contract at Spurs as speculation continues to mount, but ex-Manchester City ace Richards believes it would be a tragedy if he ended his career without silverware.
During a passionate rant on Sky Sports, he said: “Harry Kane has remained focused on what he’s needed to do and he does what he does best and is scoring goals.

“But there’s going to be a time, especially in the summer, when he is going to have to make a decision.
“Who is the manager going to be and what are their plans going forward because a player with so much quality to have not won anything, I just don’t know how he sleeps at night.
“He’s an unbelievable talent and he’s got nothing to show for it apart from just the goals.
“Some people would just take the goals, he’s a Spurs legend already and what he has done has been absolutely incredible.

Erik ten Hag reveals ‘admiration’ for David Moyes as Man Utd boss call his West Ham rival ‘brave’ for replacing Fergie

ERIK TEN HAG has always loved a challenge — and they do not come much bigger than when Manchester United gave him a call 12 months ago. When United decided he was the man to drag them off their knees, Ten Hag was leading Ajax to a third successive title and one of the hottest managers in Europe.

The glamour of Old Trafford was always going to trump Amsterdam but bossing England’s biggest club meant a more glaring spotlight than at any other Premier League side.
Yet replacing Ralf Rangnick was one thing — tonight Ten Hag faces the man who had the most thankless job of all in stepping into Sir Alex Ferguson’s boots ten years ago.
United take on a West Ham side managed by David Moyes, the man Fergie helped pick as his replacement but who was sacked after just ten tortuous months.
Ten Hag had one year’s experience at the time — a title-winning campaign with Go Ahead Eagles — when Moyes arrived at Old Trafford in 2013.

Even a managerial rookie as he was then knew what a mission impossible the Scot had taken on.
Whether Dutchman Ten Hag, 53, would have done the same is, as he pointed out, hypothetical.
But it is one of the reasons why he has huge respect for 60-year-old Moyes.
Ten Hag admitted: “It is quite clear that when you have to succeed Sir Alex, it is a really difficult job to do.

“He did it and had the bravery to do it — that is why I admire him. He has also spent so long in the job with many Premier League clubs.
“So he is a great manager with a lot of skills. We have to play our maximum if we want to get the result we need.”
After the drama of Thursday’s last-kick penalty loss at Brighton, that result is a win — to help seal a top-four finish which looked nailed down yet is suddenly far from it.
With the Hammers still chasing points to secure safety, as well as a Europa Conference final, Ten Hag knows there can be no lack of focus.
For all he is turning United into a force again — the EFL Cup is won and an FA Cup final awaits — there have still been way too many wobbles.
In six away games against the Prem’s top dogs, they have managed only one point and were hanging on for that after coughing up a two-goal lead at Tottenham.
Ten Hag added: “We have to keep our heads clear but also I demand passion from my players.
“But I am telling the players that if you want to be in four competitions, you need so much energy and a good game plan.
“You can’t do it at 99 per cent, it has to be 100 and for 95 minutes. We like it but it costs energy. That’s our job and Sunday we go again.”
No one is more determined to go again than Luke Shaw, whose rush-of-blood handball handed Brighton their spot-kick.
Shaw has been United’s most consistent performer, switching from left-back to central defence and has told his team-mates they will be stepping into the lion’s den this afternoon.
He said: “We know how good their crowd is and they will be fired up, they’ll get their team fired up and we must be ready.
“They are a really good team and have good momentum. We have to play the game, not the occasion.

“What’s even more disappointing is we were so comfortable but have been dragged back into a fight we didn’t want to be in, so we must refocus.”

Ex-Chelsea boss Avram Grant celebrates Coronation by brutally trolling Todd Boehly.. and fans love the ‘naughty’ caption

EX-CHELSEA manager Avram Grant celebrated the Coronation with a hilarious and brutal troll of Blues owner Todd Boehly. And fans could not get enough of his “naughty” comment.
Avram Grant posted a photo with King CharlesCredit: Instagram
Grant, 68, took to Instagram on the day of King Charles III was crowned at Westminster Abbey.
He posted a wonderful photo of him meeting the monarch at a black-tie event, with the pair laughing together.
And the Israeli captioned it brilliantly.
Grant wrote: “Congratulations to the new King.

“In this picture, I’d just told him that someone would buy Chelsea and make himself director of football…”
The cheeky message was seemingly in reference to new Blues owner Boehly – although he is technically chairman but not director of football, with that role shared by Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.
The American billionaire bought the Stamford Bridge club for £4.25billion last May and pumped in another £600million on transfers this season.
But it has not worked out as planned – with Chelsea going through three managers and still slumped in 11th in the Premier League while being dumped out of all cup competitions.

And fans flooded the comments of Grant’s post in hysterics.
    One said: “Naughty that, Avram!”
    Another wrote: “That caption.”
And a third added: “Tell ’em, Avram.”
Grant, a friend of Roman Abramovich and director of Chelsea, managed the club from 2007 to 2008, taking them to the Champions League final in Moscow.
He was sacked within days of the heartbreak against Manchester United – before going on to coach Portsmouth, West Ham and Ghana.
Now he is the Zambia national team boss, having taken on the job in December 2022.

Arteta begs Arsenal to celebrate wildly if they score last-gasp winner as he fears this is best chance to ever win title

MIKEL ARTETA has told Arsenal players and staff: Go crazy if we score another late Premier League winner. The referee for the Gunners’ clash at Newcastle today is Chris Kavanagh, the official who complained about wild celebrations by Arteta’s men after Reiss Nelson’s 97th-minute winner over Bournemouth in March.

Reiss Nelson’s winner against Bournemouth prompted an FA probeCredit: AFP
Kavanagh’s match report led to an FA probe, to the fury of Arsenal fans and the bemusement of Gunners boss Arteta.
He said: “Even when I am watching TV and another team scores in the 97th minute, and they celebrate like that… they should do.
“This is the beauty of this sport. When you have the chance to do it — do it!”
Meanwhile, Arteta has admitted Arsenal may never have as good a chance to win the Premier League.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
The Gunners boss reckons the current campaign has been the toughest he has known in more than 20 years in English football.
But in an era of state-backed clubs such as Manchester City and today’s opponents Newcastle, Arteta knows it is only going to get more difficult.
Newcastle, under a Saudi Arabia-led consortium, have gone from flirting with the Championship to being on target to qualify for the Champions League.
Given Arsenal’s own transformation into title contenders this year, could their hosts this afternoon mount a similar challenge next season?

Arteta said: “I don’t know. They have performed really well this season and they deserve to be where they are.
“We have done the same. But next season will be something completely different in my opinion.
“From my experience — 22 years here — this has been the most difficult league that I have participated in.
“Next season looks like it is going to be even harder. But this one, with four games to go, I’m telling you, it’s the hardest I have ever been involved in.”
After leading the way for so long, Arsenal surrendered the initiative to City by losing 4-1 at the Etihad last month.
They need to win at St James’ Park today to have any hope of overhauling the club where Arteta won two titles as Pep Guardiola’s assistant.
When asked if this season was the best chance for a team like Arsenal to lift the title — given the financial advantages of City and Newcastle — Arteta said: “It is the best time because this is the moment right now.
“The best time is when you have something and try to take it, because you don’t know when you are going to have another opportunity. That’s what we are trying to do.
“We are going to Newcastle to try to win and continue to be there.”
    ‘LEADERSHIP, EXPERIENCE & YOUTH’
The acquisition of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from City last summer was designed to inject a winning mentality into Arsenal.
But after their April slump, Arteta needs players like captain Martin Odegaard and long-serving Granit Xhaka to show how far they have come in the past year.
He said: “It’s a collaboration of all the players and how they connect with each other. And finding the right balance between leadership, experience and youth.
“I think we have a good mixture. Can we evolve, can we get better? For sure, yes. And that’s what we aim for.”
Whatever happens in the remainder of the season, the Spaniard will seek further evolution of his team in the transfer market this summer.
All the Gunners’ rivals in what is now a Premier League Big Seven will strengthen. Newcastle and City will doubtless spend more of their resources on significant signings.
Arteta said: “We have to compete with those teams because we are Arsenal Football Club.
“The demands are to be the best in everything we do, so we have to find a way to do that.”
If Arsenal can somehow find a way to win the title, it will be a remarkable achievement.
But after being front-runners for most of the season, would coming second feel like failure — even if it was to the City machine that combines the most expensively-assembled squad in English history with one of the greatest coaches?

Arteta said: “When the season finishes, we will know where we are. But I certainly wouldn’t use those words.”

Juventus want to offer Man Utd outcast Mason Greenwood fresh start in Italy and hope Paul Pogba can help seal transfer

They have sounded out Greenwood’s camp.
And Juventus hope a long-term loan deal can be agreed this summer.
Milan and Roma are also keen on signing Greenwood.
There have also been noises about a move to Turkey too.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
But Juve hope having Paul Pogba in the squad will sway things their way.
Greenwood’s alleged rape and assault charges were dropped in February.
He has not featured for United since January 2022.
And the forward is currently training alone away from their Carrington base.

Greenwood, 21, still has two years left  on his £75,000-a-week contract.
And United fear they will struggle to attract a serious fee if they opted to sell.
That makes a long-term loan his likeliest chance of a move.
But that’s only as long as the club Greenwood joins covers his wages. More

And the Bees are heading the queue for him.
Thomas Frank’s club fear Spaniard Raya will leave in the summer — although they have slapped a £35million price on his head as some Premier League giants, including Manchester United, begin to look at him.
Republic of Ireland international Kelleher is the keeper they want to take over if Raya does go.
Liverpool would help out Kelleher, 24, after years of patience as their No 2 choice.

The price would need to be about £10-12million for the Anfield reserve.
Kelleher also has interest from Brighton but they would have to sell Robert Sanchez to create a vacancy.
Meanwhile, Brentford are ready to battle Crystal Palace for Sunderland left-winger Jack Clarke.
The goals and assists by the former Leeds and Spurs wideman, 22, make him one of the top-rated Championship stars.

Clarke has been tracked by Palace for some time but now Brentford are looking closely at a summer deal.
Sunderland will look for at least £10m for him if they fail to get promoted — and the two London clubs will be first in the queue.

And the ability of Clarke to run with the ball from deep suits both when they are playing on the counter.
Busy Palace will face a lot of competition to sign brilliant Blackburn youngster Adam Wharton, 18.

And the champions’ incredible season means the 22-year-old Norwegian will collect a pot of gold to add to an array of winners’ medals.
It is understood that Haaland will collect around £1m each for lifting the Premier League and Champions League trophies.
He would pick up a further £350,000 if City beat neighbours United in the first all-Manchester FA Cup final next month.
Haaland will also fill his boots if he is successful in various end-of-season awards — some of which are already in the bag.

He has already set a new high for Premier League goals in a season and will finish as top scorer — banking a similar amount to his FA Cup bonanza.

City have similar incentives in place for Kevin De Bruyne, preferring to hand out big bonuses for success and keep their wage bill under control.
Haaland is also a serious rival to World Cup winner Lionel Messi in this year’s Ballon d’Or — given to the best player on the planet — which Etihad insiders claim is worth another £1m payout.

Man Utd ace Amad Diallo set for summer exit after strong loan transfer at Sunderland as Red Devils look for foreign deal

WINGER Amad Diallo is open to leaving Manchester United on loan again next season — for a spell in Europe. The 20-year-old has been a hit at Sunderland this term but word has gone out to find a club on the continent that may suit his style.

Diallo is slight and a less physical league — such as in Holland — may help him develop.
United want to keep Diallo for the long term and believe he has a big future at the club.
Therefore, Red Devils officials would prefer a loan arrangement over a permanent move.
United bosses are happy to see him go abroad rather than have another spell in the Championship.

Diallo has scored 12 goals in 36 Championship games this season for the Black Cats.
The Ivory Coast-born youngster was raised in Italy, where he joined the Atalanta youth system in 2015.
In 2019, he scored on his debut for the senior team, making him the first player born in 2002 to score in Serie A.

Diallo has appeared for the Ivory Coast four times, scoring once.
Back in January, Utd boss Erik ten Hag admitted he had reservations about recalling Diallo back from his loan.
Ten Hag said: “We consider everything but I have a little bit of reservation about that because I don’t want to stop the process.
“He has made really good progress there so I’m happy with that.
“But young players need experiences and when we decide for him to come back, he has to be a player who can compete for the starting XI or minimum to come on for a lot of games and make an impact.” More
