Martin Odegaard’s low-driven effort was added to in the second half as Fabian Schar turned into his own net.
With the win, the Gunners moved back to within a point of league leaders Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
And Arsenal fan Morgan insisted the title race was not yet over, and that Mikel Arteta could still achieve their title dream.
Taking to Twitter, he said: “City still have to go away to Everton, Brighton & Brentford… all while battling Real Madrid over two legs… this Title race isn’t over.”

West Ham 1 Man Utd 0: De Gea howler costs Red Devils as second defeat in a week leaves them clinging onto top four spot

WITNESSING a howler at the London Stadium is nothing new for West Ham fans.To their relief, on this occasion, it came from the visitors – and there are no prizes for guessing who the Manchester United player at fault was.

David De Gea cost his side once again with a mistake you simply had to see to believe.
The limpest of long-range shots from Said Benrahma into the 27th minute followed by the flappiest of wrists from De Gea before watching it dribble over the line.
This was supposed to be a momentous occasion for the Spaniard, becoming the club’s most-capped keeper of all time with 540 appearances.
Instead, with his contract expiring next month, all the talk will be whether boss Erik ten Hag needs to finally dip into the market to end De Gea’s 12-year stint as United’s No.1.

United want to get back to being elite, but their first-choice keeper no longer is.
Their Dutch coach has endlessly defended his man in between the sticks.
The good outweighs the bad, Ten Hag insists. Forget about the errors, focus on the world-class reaction stops.
If only we could, Erik. Right now, it seems like De Gea is left red-faced every other week, whether it is with balls at his feet or letting them fly past him.

After making five mishaps leading to goals in all competitions last season, he is now on four this year, level with Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris. A stat chart you do not want to be leading.
Had it not been for a rather lenient and favourable refereeing decision from Peter Bankes, De Gea could have made two in one game with another hairy moment after the break.
You only have to think back to mid-April on that fateful Europa League quarter-final evening in Seville, where his embarrassing gaffes ultimately saw United knocked out.
Yet it is in the Premier League where these blunders hit hardest, none more so than when they are still sweating on securing a Champions League spot.
This result, thanks to De Gea and his misfiring team-mates, sees United blow the chance to jump above Newcastle into third while remaining just a point above fifth-placed Liverpool with a game to spare.
De Gea aside, this was another away-day performance to forget for the Red Devils. Of the nine Prem games they have lost this season, eight have been on the road.
Marcus Rashford? Invisible. Bruno Fernandes? Anonymous. Casemiro? Missing.
United may be on course to lift two trophies in Ten Hag’s debut year in charge, but carry on like this and it could end on a seriously sour note.
With the ownership still up in the air, missing out on Europe’s biggest competition would simply be catastrophic.
And to top it all off, United were made to look increasingly average by a West Ham team who at their very best this campaign have struggled to be average themselves.
The Hammers are surely safe now. Seven points off the drop with three games left, and with relegation rivals Leeds and Leicester still to play.
At last, David Moyes can turn his focus to getting the East Londoners into a first major European final since 1976 ahead of a Europa Conference League semi.
Moyes returned to his strongest starting XI after a sickness bug ravaged his squad. Skipper Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Nayef Aguerd all recovered to feature.
After the last-gasp 1-0 loss away to Brighton, Ten Hag reintroduced Wout Weghorst to lead the line for the first time in just over a month to inspire some attacking intent.
It was a ferocious start, West Ham winning the ball high up the pitch and United countering with pace. Marcus Rashford blazed over before Fernandes, Antony and Eriksen went close.
De Gea had shown some early shaky legs at the back with a pass straight to Rice, but was soon left face down in the turf wanting to be gobbled up.
Benrahma won the ball just inside United’s half and galloped goalwards. There was little danger with Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof back to cover.
Replays showed that De Gea’s left foot slipped before Benrahma’s tried it from 25 yards, but he still managed to get an incredibly weak hand to it and there was no deflection, and no hiding place.
He was lucky not to be facing a penalty last in the first half as Lindelof looked to have clearly handled another Benrahma attempt. VAR bizarrely chose not to intervene.
De Gea came out for the second half and immediately had a pass intercepted. He then flapped at a long throw that was bundled in by Michail Antonio, only to be harshly deemed a foul.

United never looked like bailing their keeper out, even with Weghorst being hooked for Anthony Martial. It was 2-0 in the 73rd minute but Soucek’s header was a yard offside.
A first Prem win against his old club United for 11 years, Moyes ought to raise a glass of Spanish red to De Gea the disastrous. More

Man Utd fans SLAM Erik ten Hag’s tactical switch for West Ham clash as Weghorst’s role leaves them baffled

BAFFLED Manchester United fans slammed Erik ten Hag’s tactical tweaks at West Ham.The Red Devils boss opted to start Wout Weghorst for the trip to the London Stadium.
Wout Weghorst started in the No10 for Man Utd at West Ham
That forced Bruno Fernandes out wide to little effect
But rather than playing the giant forward up front as a traditional No9, Ten Hag deployed him in the hole as a No10.
That saw Marcus Rashford lead the line with Bruno Fernandes pushed out wide on the left and Antony on the other side.
Quizzed on whether the peculiar selection was down to West Ham’s physical approach, Ten Hag said: “You understand what management is, but yes absolutely.
“His height, good header, he wants to run, and especially it’s about the long balls, second balls, and Wout is good in such moments.”

However, the decision left United supporters watching on at home furious – especially with Weghorst’s difficulty winning aerial duels throughout his time on loan at the club from Burnley.
And plenty piled in on social media lamenting their manager’s call.
One said: “Ten Hag started Weghorst ‘because of height’ and that brother hasn’t won any aerial balls since.”
Another wrote: “I really will never understand why Ten Hag sticks Bruno out on the wing to accommodate Weghorst.”

A third added: “I love Ten Hag but I don’t get the man’s obsession with playing Weghorst as the No10.”
A fourth typed: “Weghorst on my life is the worst player I’ve ever seen. Get Ten Hag out now.”
And a final user commented: “Well done Ten Hag. We’re playing with ten men, take Weghorst off he’s useless in this role.”
Eventually, the moaning Red Devils supporters got their wishes when Ten Hag hauled the ineffective Weghorst off on 57 minutes and sent Anthony Martial on.

But the mood among United fans had already been worsened even further by a David De Gea shocker in the first half.
The blundering goalkeeper inexplicably let a tame Said Benrahma shot from the edge of the area somehow slip through his fingers and trundled agonisingly over the line to put the Hammers ahead.
That proved to be the only goal of the game and could deal United a major blow in their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
It could have been a heavier defeat – but West Ham were denied a penalty despite the ball striking the arm of Victor Lindelof in the area.

Fans rage ‘what’s the point in VAR’ as West Ham denied penalty for ‘most obvious handball’ by Lindelof against Man Utd

WEST HAM fans were left raging after VAR denied them a penalty following an apparent handball by Victor Lindelof. Late in the first half of the encounter between the Hammers and Manchester United, Said Benrahma’s cross struck the arm of Red Devils defender Lindelof.

The ball appeared to strike the arm of Victor Lindelof
But the ref opted against giving a penalty
However, referee Peter Bankes and VAR official Stuart Attwell deemed the Swede had not caused an offence in the action.
The pundits in the BT Sports studio were unanimous in calling for a penalty, while fans online raged at the decision.
Joe Cole said: “Without a doubt [it’s a penalty]. [Said] Benrahma hits it and he’s moved his arm towards the ball.
“I don’t understand for the life of me why VAR hasn’t given it. It doesn’t make sense. If you’re David Moyes, you’re furious, it’s a nailed-on penalty.”

Taking to Twitter one said: “Is this not the most obvious example of handball there is?”
A second typed: “How is that not a pen? He literally moved his to purposely handball it.”
A third remarked: “Oh my goodness gracious me. Biggest handball I’ve ever seen he pulled his arm back out 🤣🤣🤣🤣.”
“That’s handball all day and twice on a Sunday unless you’re Manchester United,” commented a fourth.

A fifth declared: “That is absolutely handball from Lindelof. Begs the question what the point of VAR really is?”
Another added: “Lindelof has almost caught that.”
Fortunately for the Hammers the decision did not matter in the end as they ran out 1-0 winners after David de Gea failed to stop Benrahma’s tame strike.
Victory leaves West Ham seven points clear of the relegation zone with three games remaining.
Fourth-placed United however are nervously looked over their shoulders as rivals Liverpool are only one point behind. More

Lacazette opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark but Montpellier hit back with a quick-fire double from Elye Wahi to lead at half-time.
The 20-year-old Frenchman repeated the trick after the break to put his side well on top – but Lacazette was not finished.
He scored six minutes later to spark a comeback with former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren also getting in on the act.
But with ten minutes left, Montpellier were still ahead and incredibly Wahi almost scored a fifth – his effort whistling just wide of the post.

The shocking incident occurred 27 minutes into United’s Premier League clash at West Ham on Sunday.
Said Benrahma got hold of the ball in United’s half before freely dribbling towards goal.
Despite being surrounded by several defenders including Luke Shaw, Benrahma managed to get in sight of De Gea’s net.
And he instinctively pulled the trigger as he was closed down outside the box.

The shot lacked the brute power to sail past De Gea as he got down to make the save.
But incredibly, he failed to palm the ball away strongly as his left foot appeared to slip slightly.
And De Gea instead sent it into his own net in a horror mistake.
The veteran was left lying face-down as West Ham went on to hold their goal and seal all three points.

And boss Erik ten Hag cut a distraught figure on the sideline as he immediately bowed his head.
It was a far from ideal error from De Gea, whose mistakes saw United crash out of the Europa League last month.
He is on the verge of penning a new Red Devils contract, albeit taking a huge paycut in the process.
And United fans have demanded the club rip up De Gea’s deal, else they will take action themselves.
One supporter said: “De Gea I swear to god I‘ll rip your contract with my own hands.”
Another declared: “If Ten Hag gives De Gea a new contract I’ll riot.”
One noted: “Whoever is giving contracts at United should tear that De Gea contract up. We’re tired.”
Another added: “Bruh. De Gea is actually getting a new contract. Club is disgusting.”
Match pundits also had plenty to say at half-time of the match.
Rio Ferdinand told BT Sport: “You can’t excuse it, it’s a bad mistake. I think he’ll take full responsibility for that. When you take a look, he does slip slightly, but that’s no excuse.
“He’s got full contact on the ball there, it’s not like he’s stretching and getting fingertips. It’s a big, big mistake.”

Peter Crouch added: “David de Gea has had a shocker, we can’t dress it up. He can’t set himself.
“But even then, if you look at De Gea’s position, he’s backpedalling, and then he cant get on the front foot at all. You cant justify it at all, it’s a terrible mistake.” More

Arsenal player ratings: Martinelli terrorises Newcastle but Jesus not at best as Gunners keep title hopes alive vs Toon

ARSENAL kept their title dream alive with a battling win over Champions League hopefuls Newcastle. The Gunners had a big slice of fortune as Toon hit the woodwork twice, while Aaron Ramsdale also produced a series of stunning saves.

Gabriel Jesus was not at his best as he spent a large portion of the game moaning and throwing himself to the groundCredit: Getty
At the other end Martin Odegaard produced a captain’s performance and better finishing could have seen Mikel Arteta’s side out of sight by half-time.
Granit Xhaka was brilliant at both ends of the pitch and on another day he or Gabriel Martinelli would have picked up the Man of the Match award.
Ramsdale also put in a heroic performance once again and the Gunners will be confident they can pick up maximum points from their last three games as this was their toughest game left… on paper, at least.
Here is how SunSport’s Kealan Hughes rated the Arsenal display.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
    Aaron Ramsdale – 9
Got down well to deny Joe Willock and keep his side in front midway through the first half.
Produced several saves after the break to somehow keep his side ahead as Newcastle piled on the pressure – his point blank save from Sven Botman’s header the pick of the bunch.
    Ben White – 8
Dealt with Newcastle’s dangerman Alexander Isak well and helped out Kiwior.
Had to be switched on at all times on and off the ball and he was – a very assured display.

HOW TO GET FREE BETS ON FOOTBALL
    Jakub Kiwior – 8
Escaped a penalty being given against him for handball in the opening ten minutes thanks to VAR.
An otherwise stellar performance, very impressive given this was just his fourth Premier League appearance and second start.
    Gabriel – 8
Deserves credit for keeping a lid on Callum Wilson and an extra mark for keeping a clean sheet at St James’ Park, a difficult feat this season.
    Oleksandr Zinchenko – 6
Two of Newcastle’s biggest chances came down Arsenal’s left flank as Jacob Murphy caused the Ukrainian problems, and he was hooked just after the hour mark.
He was useful on the ball however and moved into midfield to help his side retain possession when they were in need of a breather.
    Jorginho – 7
Was a calming presence in midfield and was able to get Arsenal going in the first half.
But he provided little protection for the back four after the break when Newcastle started to apply pressure and overran the Gunners’ midfield.
    Granit Xhaka – 8
One pinpoint through ball for Bukayo Saka in the first half that the winger ought to have scored from.
Produced a goal-saving tackle to deny Willock when the former Gooner looked certain to score.
    Martin Odegaard – 9
Scored a brilliant daisy-cutting drive from long-range to break the deadlock – a real captain’s goal.
Cut open the Toon backline on multiple occasions in the first half and had another effort cleared off the line.
    Bukayo Saka – 6
Had a lively first half but should have scored to double his side’s advantage when put through by Xhaka.
Was quieter second half and a bit leggy as he has been in recent games.
    Gabriel Martinelli – 8
Squandered a few chances in the first half including one where he was one-on-one with Nick Pope with the goalkeeper saving well.
But he was a constant threat with his movement and pace and was very unlucky to see one curling effort bounce back off the bar, while it was his cross that was turned into the net by Fabian Schar for Arsenal’s second.
    Gabriel Jesus – 5
Spent most of his time throwing himself to the ground claiming fouls and was probably the worst of Arsenal’s attacking players.
Some clever touches in and around the box but did not show enough given his talent.
    Subs
    Kieran Tierney (for Zinchenko, 61mins) – 7
Brought on to shore up the Arsenal defence and he did exactly that. Showed good leadership.
    Leandro Trossard (for Martinelli, 80mins) – 5
Did not influence the game as he would have liked but he did not see much of the ball, in fairness.
    Thomas Partey (for Odegaard, 80mins) – 6
Helped to settle the game down and deterred any late Newcastle pressure.
    Read More on The Sun
    Reiss Nelson (for Saka, 87mins) – 5
Did not have enough time to affect the game with Arsenal happy to defend their lead when he was brought on.
    Eddie Nketiah (for Jesus, 87mins) – 5
Was involved in a flare-up in added time and booked for pushing Schar, though it did help to waste time. More
