Weghorst, 30, has netted twice for United in cup competitions since his arrival but has failed to find the target in his 15 Premier League appearances.
United have been linked with the likes of Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen as they look to add a world class striker to their squad this summer.
However, Weghorst has been vocal about his ambition to stay at the club, but the decision will not be up to him.
He is expected to go back to Burnley following the end of his loan spell.

Kompany will have talks with the striker over his future and if it lies at Turf Moor for their return to the Premier League.
The Belgian manager, however, has wished Weghorst his best and hopes he can achieve success before the season ends with an FA Cup final against Manchester City on the horizon.
He told The Mirror: “He’s a player from Burnley football club who has played in the top four of the Premier League for Manchester United and also for Holland
“The most important thing for me – and it’s a tough one for me to say obviously because of the Cup Final – is for him personally to finish the season on a high.

“But still, I want him to do well and we will have the conversation.”
Weghorst had been in good form for Besiktas in the first half of the season, scoring eight goals in 16 league games while on loan.
It was an improvement on his efforts during his initial six months at Burnley.
He was signed by the Clarets in January 2022 in a bid to save their Premier League status.
However, he only managed to score twice in 20 appearances for the club. More

Forgotten ex-Spurs ace Palacios, 38, spent two-and-a-half years at Spurs after a 2009 move from Wigan.
The Honduras star scored once in 86 appearances.
And he became a firm fan favourite thanks to his no-nonsense approach in midfield.

The ace replaced Sandro in midfield but lasted only moments after suffering an ankle injury.
Palacios then had to be stretchered off the field, signalling it could be a serious problem.
And the star, who ended his pro career in 2019 with Real Betis, will now be hoping he can return home to Miami without any complications.
But it was good news for Tottenham’s other ex-players as they recorded a 7-1 win over their celeb opponents.
Defoe was the star of the show as he netted a hat-trick.

But it was the reigning Premier League champions’ second goal that left the keeper with egg on his face.
Pep Guardiola’s men doubled their lead just two minutes later with usual suspect Erling Haaland’s header after a pinpoint cross by man of the match Gundogan, who made it three in the second half.
Haaland sent the ball to Pickford’s right side with the England international flying the other way.
The 29-year-old performed such a ridiculous dive that he even went crashing onto his own post.

But Haaland’s header was very clever as he knew Pickford would be going to his left because that was where all the open space was.
However, the striker caught the keeper by surprise as he went for his right side instead.
But that didn’t save Pickford from all the banter by fans who took to social media immediately after City’s second.
One supporter tweeted: “England’s No1 goalkeeper, Mr Jordan Pickford.”

Fans can’t believe Pickford hasn’t given away a penalty for ‘PUNCHING’ Haaland as they joke ‘he learned that from KSI’

FANS have been left shocked that Jordan Pickford avoided punishment after “punching” Erling Haaland. Manchester City were threatening to extend their 3-0 lead as they broke away on the counter-attack against Everton.

Riyad Mahrez’s cross into box was looped up into the air by Toffees defender Nathan Patterson.
And as the ball dropped back to earth, Pickford caught Haaland on the back of the head with a clumsy effort to knock the ball away.
But the goalkeeper managed to avoid getting booked or conceding a penalty, despite clattering into the Norwegian striker.
Fans were quick to have their say on the incident and their reactions varied between shock at Anthony Taylor’s decision-making and confusion at Pickford’s goalkeeping.

One said: “Pickford definitely learned that from KSI last night.”

Everton 0 Man City 3: Gundogan’s stunning double keeps Champions marching to title with easy win over toiling Toffees

Last week he got both goals in the win against Leeds before also missing a late penalty – and he was at it again at Goodison.
Gundogan struck two beauties – one each side of the interval – and also teed up Erling Haaland to nod in his 52nd goal of the season.
The Germany international waited until the final 14 minutes of the campaign to decide the title race 12 months ago with his two late goals against Aston Villa.
This year he is doing everything in his power to make sure the battle with Arsenal doesn’t go the distance.

Pep Guardiola made four changes as he looks to juggle his option ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League return with Real Madrid.
And despite City having almost all the possession, Everton coped well with the champions for the opening 35 minutes and actually had the clearest chance.
James Tarkowski headed down a Dwight McNeil corner and Mason Holgate couldn’t wrap his foot around the loose ball at the back post.
City had been restricted to long-range efforts but then clicked into gear in devastating fashion during the final 10 minutes of the half.

Riyad Mahrez swung over a cross from the right and Gundogan did well just to control it on his thigh – so what followed was truly special.
With his back to goal, he flicked a right-foot volley into the corner and beyond the despairing dive of Pickford.
The club captain – making his 300th appearance for the club – wasn’t finished there though and two minutes later he helped take the game further away from the Toffees.
Foden sent the German international away down the left and he hung up a delicious cross for Haaland to nod beyond Pickford.
It was only the Norwegian’s third touch of the game – but as is so often the case, he only needs one to make his mark.
It was his 52nd goal of the season – and this one at the home of the Toffees legend Dixie Dean – who scored a top flight record of 63 some 95 years ago.
For an Everton side who have scored more than one in a home game just once this season, it looked like a long way back.
Ilkay Gundogan was the star of the show at GoodisonCredit: PA
When star striker Dominic Calvert Lewin failed to re-appear for the second half, it looked even an even bigger mountain to climb.
And within six minutes of the re-start, they knew the game was up as Foden was fouled on the edge of the box by James Garner.
City had options but it was the skipper who stepped up and floated a delightful 20-yard curler past Pickford.
Everton could have caved in but know goal difference could yet be decisive in their bid to beat the drop so kept at it.
They could even have pulled one back as Tarkowski’s header was pushed onto the bar by Ederson while Yerry Mina nodded another one over the bar.

Their battle to hang onto the top-flight status they have had since 1951 hangs in the balance.
Meanwhile, City know five points from their final three Prem matches will be enough for a third straight crown. More

Ex-Crystal Palace boss Vieira said winning the Premier League title at Old Trafford in 2002 “made it even more special” – right in front of Keane.
Reminiscing on their famous rivalry, Vieira said on Sky: “Of course it can get really sweet, especially when you go to Old Trafford and win it over there. That made it even more special.”
Following the subtle dig, Keane glanced at Vieira and shook his head as he appeared speechless.
He then joked about Vieira: “He was really nice to me before he came on air, and then he starts!”

Keane went on to say the years he spent battling Vieira on the pitch were “great days” that he still misses.
He said: “It was brilliant, you really really miss it because it was aggressive, it was nasty, there was some top quality play [and] there was obviously pace to the game.
“And you knew every time you played Arsenal from United’s point of view that result was going to be so vital if you wanted to get your hands on the title, and honestly they were great days.”
And later on in the broadcast Keane threatened to reignite the rivalry by hilariously pretending to throw punches at a laughing Vieira.
