Chelsea and Liverpool ‘looking to raid Southampton’s £40m midfielder Romeo Lavia’ after relegation to Championship

CHELSEA and Liverpool are both reportedly preparing to battle it out for Southampton star Romeo Lavia. The 19-year-old joined the Saints from Manchester City last summer for £14million.

The midfielder has shone on the South Coast during his 33 appearances despite Southampton being relegated from the Premier League.
Those displays also brought international recognition with Lavia winning his first Belgian cap earlier this year.
With Euro 2024 on the horizon, Lavia is unlikely to want to drop down into the Championship with Saints and seems one of the players certain to leave St Mary’s once the transfer window re-opens.
The Times claim that Southampton see him as “their most valuable asset” as they plot a rebuild and are likely to demand at least £40m for him.

And they also state that both Chelsea and Liverpool are in the running to sign him.
However, despite a clause that says he can be brought back to the Etihad if Man City match any bid made for him, his former club are not believed to be keen.
Jurgen Klopp is planning his own overhaul at Liverpool over the coming months with long-serving stars such as James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain due to depart Anfield with replacements needed.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s director of recruitment Joe Shields signed Lavia for Southampton before he made the switch to Stamford Bridge.

And this update claims he is after the ace again – although he has allegedly struggled to convince everyone at the club to make the move.
Chelsea reportedly sent scouts to watch Lavia against Brighton last weekend but the final decision is likely to come down to incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino. More

It took another five minutes for him to be treated and then lifted on to a stretcher.
Manager Erik ten Hag entered the pitch to console his player and admitted after the match the injury was “serious”.

To add to the manager’s woes ahead of the FA Cup Final next weekend, Luke Shaw was subbed at the break with a back problem and replaced by Tyrell Malacia.
The good news for Ten Hag was the return of Marcus Rashford after he had missed two games through injury and illness.

Nice appointed Didier Digard as caretaker boss in January following Lucien Favre’s dismissal and are set to make a permanent appointment at the end of the season.
According to L’Equipe, Potter is favourite to land the job.
The Nice board is claimed to have unanimously approved the former Blues boss as a potential appointment and preliminary talks are said to have already taken place.
Nice are owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos, however, who find themselves otherwise occupied.

Ineos are front-runners to buy a majority stake in Manchester United from the Glazers.
The endeavour is said to be Ineos’ No1 priority at the moment, leaving Nice’s managerial hunt in limbo.
In addition to Potter, Nice like Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, although they accept that convincing the Italian to join would not be possible at present, given the Seagulls’ success.
Nice are also claimed to like Thiago Motta, Franck Haise and Regis Le Bris.

Following L’Equipe’s report, Telegraph reporter Matt Law claimed that Potter will NOT become Nice manager.
The 48-year-old was quickly linked with the vacant Leicester job after being axed by Chelsea.
While he has also been loosely connected with the vacant Tottenham gig.

Ten Hag begs Man Utd to buy ‘better players’ for title fight – but transfer targets like Kane and Mount could cost £365m

But they remain well adrift of local rivals Manchester City – who sit 17 points clear of their neighbours heading into the final weekend of the season.
And Ten Hag has admitted his squad needs to be bolstered significantly if they are to end their decade-long pursuit of a league title.
Speaking after the win over Chelsea, he told Sky Sports: “It is a good base to build on but standards have to go up and demands have to rise.
“We have to work in the summer with this squad but we also have to strengthen in the window with this squad.

“We want to compete for the title but it has to be realistic. It is what is there.
“Now, we are far away so there is a lot of work to do but we need better players if want to compete for the highest.”

The size of Ten Hag’s transfer kitty this summer looks set to depend on who owns the club.
The Glazers’ sale continues to drag on as British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani are embroiled in a bidding war.

United have been linked with signing a host of huge players and could shell out as much as £365million on FIVE stars.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane is the most high-profile target as he prepares to enter the final 12 months of his contract.
But the England skipper could still set United back £100m as Spurs hold out for a huge fee for their all-time record scorer.
Another Three Lions star seemingly on the market is midfielder Mason Mount.
The Chelsea man also has just one year left on his existing deal and has been linked with United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Ten Hag is keen to acquire him for £55m, but Blues owner Todd Boehly is believed to be commanding £80m.
And Mount’s childhood friend, Declan Rice, is expected to cost even more when he departs West Ham.
The 24-year-old Hammers captain has been priced at £100m by David Moyes’ men.
And interest from a number of Premier League giants – such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd – could drive the price through the roof.
Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae is another summer pursuit that will cost around £40m.
    Read More on The Sun
And Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong could come in as competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.
But he is also valued at around £45m – so nobody is expected to come to Man Utd on the cheap this summer.
