Owners Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, José E. Feliciano, Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss added: “The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the Board is proud of.
“We are delighted that Mauricio will be joining Chelsea. Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record.
“We are all looking forward to having him on board.”
Pochettino had been out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

He is one of the most successful and popular managers in recent times at Spurs, Chelsea’s bitter London rivals, despite failing to win a trophy with the club.
He averaged 1.89 points per game – the most for any Tottenham boss in Premier League history with a minimum of 38 Premier League games in charge.
The ex-Southampton chief capped off his five-year stint at White Hart Lane by leading Spurs to the 2019 Champions League final, where they lost to Liverpool.
But he was sacked just months later following a poor start to the next campaign before eventually taking over at PSG in January 2021, winning the Coupe de France and Ligue 1 prior to his departure.
Potter was sacked by Chelsea in April despite being hired on a five-year deal worth £12m-a-year.
He was appointed after Boehly sacked Champions League-winning manager Thomas Tuchel following a poor start to the season.

Potter won seven of his 22 Premier League matches in charge of the club, drew seven and lost eight.
Chelsea are in a mess after Boehly splashed out £330m on new signings in January, taking their total spending this season well clear of £600m.
Interim boss Frank Lampard won just one match in charge of the Blues as they ended the season 12th with their lowest ever Premier League points total.

Sky Sports pundits predict which of Leicester, Leeds and Southampton most likely to make immediate Premier League return

THE Sky Sports pundits have predicted which of the relegated clubs are most likely to make an immediate return to the Premier League.Leicester and Leeds followed Southampton into the Championship on a dramatic and heartbreaking final day of the season.

Southampton, Leeds, Leciester… Which club is most likely to bounce straight back up to the Premier League? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/CCWBO1maRp— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) May 28, 2023

Sam Allardyce’s side were comprehensively beaten 4-1 by Tottenham.
Leicester were safe in the live table when Harvey Barnes fired them in front at home to West Ham.
But Abdoulaye Doucoure’s sweet strike rescued Everton, despite the Foxes holding on to take all three points against the Hammers.
And now the three crushed sides all face a return to the second tier – with Roy Keane, Micah Richards and Jamie Carragher unconvinced there is a standout candidate to jump straight back up again.

Richards said: “It’s hard. I mean probably Leices… it depends who they keep, who stays and who goes.
“We always talk about Southampton being a stable club, the way they recruited and brought players in then sell them on.
“So you would stay Southampton are quite stable. It’s an open-ended question.”
Keane seemed to suggest Leeds’ managerial situation could be problematic – with Allardyce set to leave Elland Road after his brief and unsuccessful four-match stint.

It is a similar situation at Leicester with Dean Smith brought in for the final eight games of the season but unable to retain the Foxes’ top-flight status.
Carragher agreed, and referenced the fact that Saints have already lined up Russell Martin from Swansea to take over at St Mary’s.
The ex-Liverpool defender added: “Southampton, even before the last game, know who their manager is next season, they’ve brought in Russell Martin straight away.
“It will be really interesting how long Leeds or Leicester actually take to appoint a new manager or whether these managers that are there stay on.
“Dean Smith said he’s not quite sure if he’s going to be there or not.
“I think they’ve got to be really decisive and announce that in the next week or so.”
    KING POWER SHIFT
Of the three relegated teams, Leicester are set to see their expensively-assembled and highly-paid squad decimated the most.
Youri Tielemans and Caglar Soyuncu are two of the seven players out of contract this summer who look set to walk away for free.
James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Wilfried Ndidi and Timothy Castagne are all expected to be sold, too.
Fans on Twitter also shared their views in the replies.
One said: “Southampton will come back fairly easily as they have planned for this. Leeds might come up as their squad is full of Championship players, Leicester have a bigger issue as there will be a huge exodus in the summer.”
Another wrote: “Can’t see Southampton losing many players this summer. Leeds will lose players and Leicester might lose a good 40 per cent of the first team. Southampton might have the better chance to come back up.”

A third added: “Both Leeds and Leicester to bounce back, I have that hope.”
But a final user commented: “I truly think none of the three will come back up immediately.”

Arsenal’s pot for their Champions League return CONFIRMED… thanks to goal from their former star Olivier Giroud

OLIVIER GIROUD may have left Arsenal in 2018 but his latest goal for AC Milan helped out his former club.Giroud was on target as AC Milan beat Juventus 1-0 – a result that secured his side Champions League football next season and means Juve cannot qualify.

As a result, Arsenal’s chances of having a successful return to the competition have been boosted as they will now be in Pot Two for the draw.
Uefa use their coefficient system to determine the seedings for European competition with the Gunners sitting 23rd.
It looked like the Gunners were going to be in Pot Three and potentially be drawn in a group of death.
But, with Juventus failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League Mikel Arteta’s side’s place in Pot Two was confirmed.

The Italian giants were eighth in the coefficient rankings but fortunately for Arsenal they missed out – with a 10 point deduction in Serie A playing a huge part.
By being in Pot Two it now means that Arsenal can only face one of Europe’s big hitters in the group stage.
As of now, Barcelona, Napoli, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica and Feyenoord could all be visiting the Emirates, as well as the winners of the Europa League out of Roma and Sevilla.
Giroud could make a return to north London as AC Milan sit in Pot Three thanks to their win over Juventus.

Watch Mykhailo Mudryk tell cameraman to film him from better angle with Chelsea fans calling flop signing ‘unreal’

MYKHAILO MUDRYK appeared to tell a cameraman to film him from a better angle as he took part in Chelsea’s end of season lap of honour. Chelsea’s dismal campaign concluded with a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle, in which Mudryk was an unused substitute.

Mudryk was very happy when the cameraman obliged
The Ukrainian winger has struggled following his £88million move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January and has yet to score for the Blues in 15 appearances.
The 22-year-old still appears to have the backing of the Chelsea fans who fully expect him to come good.
The winger amused fans with his antics during the end of season lap of honour.
Mudryk, along with the rest of his teammates, was being filmed whilst applauding the supporters.

Micah Richards makes bold Chelsea prediction for next season but Carragher tears it to shreds and Keane looks seething

FORMER Manchester City star Micah Richards believes Chelsea will challenge for a place in the top four next season. The Blues finished the 2022-23 campaign in the bottom half of the Premier League table for the first time since 1996, despite spending almost £600million on 16 new players over the past year.

Carragher and Keane appeared to disagreeCredit: Twitter / @SkySportsPL
However, Richards is convinced that they will bounce back next season under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.
When speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports, the ex-England defender said: “I think Chelsea are going to be really good next season under Poch. Top four, challenging maybe a little bit more.
“The players that they’ve got, Christopher Nkunku coming in. They need a striker, they’ll get that sorted, but I think Chelsea will be challenging big next season.”
Richards then went on to highlight the importance of Reece James’ likely return to full fitness as well as the impact that Wesley Fofana could have.

However, his comment on the Frenchman did not go down well with fellow pundit Roy Keane.
The former Manchester United star claimed: “Who?! He’s been dreadful, he’s been dreadful!”
Jamie Carragher was quick to agree and highlight the flaws in Chelsea’s recruitment process.
He added: “I know they’ve spent a lot of money, but who are these players?

“I think [Enzo] Fernandez has got great pedigree. The goalkeeper is a problem, they’ve got no striker, [Nkunku] might come in and make a difference, Mykhailo Mudryk has obviously come in for a lot of money, he’s got pedigree but…”
Many fans on social media appeared to agree with Carragher and Keane.
One person tweeted: “Most of the players they have are bang average.”
Another added: “Carra is right. Reece James is always injured now, can’t rely on him for a full season. To me Chilwell and James can only play for a few months then they’ll miss majority of the season through injuries.”
A third wrote: “12th to top four?? Their issues are too big, Poch is a top coach, but it will take time getting to know some of these guys and all that. Best Chelsea can do next year is 6th.”
While a fourth joked: “Yeah top four of the relegation zone.”
Chelsea are expected to announce Pochettino as the club’s new first team manager in the next few weeks.
The former Tottenham manager has already signed a three-year contract with the Blues, but he will not be able to start work until July 1. More

De Gea, 32, was presented with the trophy at Old Trafford following the 2-1 win over Fulham on the final day of the season in which the stopper saved his first penalty at home for nine years.
His Red Devils team-mates joined in the congratulations and celebrations for the long-serving No1, whose future remains unclear.
But ex-United captain Keane was typically blunt in his reaction as he ripped into the Spaniard once again.
The Irishman told Sky Sports: “United had to improve from last season – they were so bad defensively.

“You wouldn’t keep him as a No2 would you? He wouldn’t want to be a No2 – he’s been the No1 for ten years.”
Micah Richards tried to defend De Gea by stating: “He’s done well for United over the years.”
But Keane snapped back immediately: “I don’t think so. I think he’s done okay. What big deal is that [winning player of the year four times]?
“He was trying to leave the club to go to Real Madrid.”
There is still plenty of doubt over whether or not De Gea will be at Old Trafford next season.
His current £375,000-a-week contract expires next year and is keen to extend his stay but United want him to take a dramatic pay cut.
SunSport revealed the ex-Atletico man could be offered a money-spinning testimonial should he accept the reduced wages.
Porto’s Diogo Costa, Everton No1 Jordan Pickford and Brentford goalkeeper David Raya have all been linked as possible replacements for De Gea, while United also have Dean Henderson ready to return from an injury-hit loan with Nottingham Forest. More

Premier League club’s former stadium is now abandoned field dubbed a ‘travesty’ surrounded by car park and flats

WHAT was once a rocking, vibrant Premier League football stadium is now a rocky, overgrown abandoned field. And the last person to score a goal there believes the miserable state of this iconic former ground is a “travesty”.

A block of university flats went up but little elseCredit: Phil Shephard-Lewis – The Times
Rather than stands packed out with jubilant supporters roaring their team on, instead lies a forgotten patch of land.
Sandwiched between an open-air car park and De Montfort University accommodation, the pitch is a wild, weedy mess surrounded by metal fences and walls covered in graffiti – one a relatively recent addition wishing the team well in Europe.
Reports in 2019 suggested the demolished and derelict stadium plot, sold to developers for £3.75million, could finally be reinvigorated with a large complex of flats and houses – but there remains no progress.
And ex-winger and academy graduate Matt Piper is calling for something to be done at his former stomping ground, Leicester City’s Filbert Street.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
Piper told SunSport: “It’s a travesty. I had hope for it when they built the student accommodation there and then I thought they would do something with the rest of the derelict car park.
“It’s just not a nice place around there and there should be some kind of memorial for Filbert Street.
“I’m gutted about all that and hopefully one day something will get unveiled there – I’m not so prosaic for it to be something about the last goal!
“But it would be nice to have a memory there to remind the Leicester fans about Filbert Street.”

The stadium played host to the Foxes for 111 years, from 1891 to 2002, before they moved a couple of hundred metres south on the River Soar to the 32,000-seater King Power Stadium.
In 1928, the ground welcomed a record 47,298 for a 3-0 FA Cup away win for Tottenham, although the capacity dropped to 22,000 by the time of its closure.
During World War II, it was damaged by Nazi bombs and then by fire – with many of the repairs done by German prisoners of war.
But even so, despite the raucous atmosphere in the ‘Double Decker’ stand, former manager Martin O’Neill joked he would take prospective new signings in through the back door to avoid them seeing the crumbling East Stand.
Filbert Street saw Leicester win 10-0 against Portsmouth in 1928 and draw 6-6 with Arsenal two years later in a pair of staggering results.
The pitch also survived the record winter of 1962-63, with Leicester emerging as the Ice Kings as English football was largely wiped out for three months, plus Gordon Banks once made a diving save to catch a DOG in 1965.
But it was the 3-3 stalemate with the Gunners in 1997 that lives long in the memory for Piper for more than one reason – with a stunning Dennis Bergkamp hat-trick and four goals in the final six minutes, including three in injury time.
Piper added: “Filbert Street holds amazing memories, I first went down when I was six.
“I always dreamt of being out there and pulling on that Foxes shirt. I would sit with the Foxy Ladies cheerleaders and the other apprentices – I grew up with wicked memories of Filbert Street.

Dennis Bergkamp scored a memorable hat-trick in a 3-3 draw in August 1997Credit: Getty
“My favourite game was that Arsenal 3-3 in 1997 – I actually got punched in that game by a Leicester City fan because I stood up and clapped when Dennis Bergkamp scored that goal against Matty Elliott.
“I am a football fan, first and foremost, and when he scored that goal, I was like, ‘Yep that’s the best goal I’ve ever seen live.’ Muzzy equalised and he came up and stayed true to his word and clipped me across the face then dad hit him with an umbrella.
“I never found him – hopefully we can find him and I can shake his hand.”
Leicester’s success in the 1990s under O’Neill prompted the need for stadium expansion and improvement.
But with two of the stands backing on to housing, the decision was made to build a new stadium and the club moved to what was then called the Walkers Stadium in 2002.
It meant the final game at Filbert Street was a 2-1 win for Leicester over Spurs.
Although Micky Adams’ side were already relegated, a huge crowd turned out to wave farewell to the much-loved stadium.
    ‘ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE’
And Piper’s fantastic diving header for his beloved boyhood club ensured his name would be etched into Leicester’s folklore forever – and the Foxes finished the Premier League season with more wins (five) than managers (four).
‘Pipes’ – who now does local radio covering Leicester and has his own academy after his playing career was cut short by 14 knee surgeries – is still pinching himself over that moment 21 years ago.
He said: “Scoring the last goal at Filbert Street is what dreams are made of.
“Sitting in there as a six-year-old, if you had told me that 14 years later I’d be scoring the last ever goal at that iconic ground… that was my most special memory from my football career.
“Absolutely unbelievable. The day was a blur but as I get older and my career ended as it did, that goal becomes more and more special.”

Like Piper, many Leicester fans remain disappointed by the lack of investment or development on the Filbert Street site and long to see the area rejuvenated.
But despite its horror state these days, there are still a few nods to the club’s former home through the club mascot Filbert Fox, the King Power Stadium being on Filbert Way and the road running past the uni flats called Lineker Road after the city and club’s most famous son.

Roy Keane speaks out on Kane, Mount and Rice to Man Utd rumours ranking them from most exciting to worst target

ROY KEANE has had his say on Manchester United’s transfer plans for the summer – and ranked the options. The Red Devils are set for another big summer in the market as Erik ten Hag continues his rebuild ahead of their return to the Champions League.
Harry Kane is Manchester United’s No1 transfer targetCredit: AFP
United, who finished third and 14 points off champions Manchester City, continue to be strongly linked with England trio Harry Kane, Declan Rice and Mason Mount.
Kane is their primary target with the club desperate for a new No9 while best pals Rice and Mount could bolster the midfield.
West Ham captain Rice could be on his way to Arsenal, though, while a Mount switch is dependent on United meeting Chelsea’s reported £55million valuation for their academy graduate who has one year left on his deal.
But straight-talking Keane has no doubts which of the three targets is the most important to transforming the Old Trafford side.
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
Asked who can challenge Manchester City for the title next season, Keane told Sky Sports: “I hope it’s United, obviously depending on the takeover and recruitment.
“They have to get a world-class striker but it’s going to be difficult because City are brilliant with a great, great manager.
“I wouldn’t be so sure about Mount.
“They’re going to be linked with lots of players but the one that would excite you really is Kane.”

Micah Richards challenged him on his Mount comment.
And former Red Devils skipper Keane continued: “He’s just gone off the boil a little bit. I know he can bounce back and he’s got qualities and I was raving about him a few years ago.
“He’s just gone missing the last year or two, had one or two injuries, the fact he can’t get in a bad Chelsea team.
“I wouldn’t be hanging my hat too much on him in terms of improving United and closing the gap, I think he’s a good player but would he improve United? I’m not so sure.
“I think Rice would, he would be a decent signing but in terms of the excitement and goalscoring, they’ve got to go for Kane but can you see Spurs selling to United? Very, very difficult.”
Kane has also been linked with Real Madrid while Newcastle could even make a shock swoop.
So should United miss out on the England captain, the likes of Victor Osimhen, Randal Kolo Muani, Goncalo Ramos and Evan Ferguson are possible alternatives.
