That was when he launched an exocet dead-ball missile from 30 yards during a 3-1 defeat for Saints.
The ace recently hit out at his Southampton teammates for not doing enough all season following their relegation.
Skipper Ward-Prowse backed the club to bounce straight back to the Premier League, but said standards have slipped from day one this season.
Southampton have sacked two managers and suffered a club record 24 defeats with two games left to go.
Ward-Prowse said: “It’s disappointing. It is a moment that has been coming.
“We knew we had put ourselves in a difficult position.
“When these things happen you go away individually and as a club and ask if you have done enough? I don’t think we have. We talk about leaving things out there and ultimately that is why we are where we are now.
“Have decisions been right? Have we been good enough on the pitch? Have we done enough as a team to progress? I believe we should be performing at a better level than we have done and we have not done that on a consistent basis.

Chelsea ‘receive £30m bid from Premier League rivals for Levi Colwill’ and fans say club are ‘not serious at all’

CHELSEA have received a £30million bid from Brighton for Levi Colwill, according to reports. The defender has had great success on loan at Brighton this season and has emerged as one of England’s most promising left-footed centre-backs.

And following the clubs’ respective campaigns, which saw Chelsea hit a record low and Brighton a record high, the Seagulls have submitted a bid to try and coax Colwill to stay at the Amex Stadium.
However, Sky Sports report the bid was rejected, with Chelsea having “no plans” to sell the 20-year-old.

Colwill made 17 Premier League appearances on the South Coast during the season, becoming a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s fluid system which champions building up from the back.
The former academy graduate was given his Premier League debut last August by ex-Seagulls boss Graham Potter when Brighton claimed their first-ever league win at Manchester United.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
De Zerbi has already resigned himself to losing star names such as Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister.
As a result, Brighton have already set about recruiting reinforcements ahead of their inaugural season in European football.
Brazilian Joao Pedro has already been brought in for a club record £30m, with the club’s bid for Colwill matching this.
However, Chelsea fans seemed to be almost insulted by the bid, with one fan reacting: “Embarrassing bid that.”

A second fan said: “Big jokers!”
A third declared: “£30m for Colwill Brighton are not serious at all.”
While a fourth remarked: “£30m? That’s a f***ing insult, especially after charging us £60m for [Marc] Cucurella.”
The Blues are set for a mass exodus of stars this summer, with a bloated squad which saw some players forced to get changed in corridors.
Todd Boehly sanctioned a £600m spending spree on new talent over his first two windows since buying the club.
But with no Champions League football – or any kind of European football for that matter – next season, Chelsea’s books are set to take a big hit.
Consequently, a clearout is needed, and new boss Mauricio Pochettino has already taken to the task of cutting his squad down to size.
Colwill’s fellow centre-back Kalidou Kouliably is one of those who could make way during the close season.
Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta, a versatile defender, is also likely to leave.
Loanees Joao Felix and Denis Zakaria will not be turned into permanent transfers by the club, though SunSport understands the former has been offered to Newcastle.
Long-term stars Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are set to be among the first names out of the door at Stamford Bridge, with reports linking them to Manchester City and AC Milan respectively.
    Read More on The Sun
Meanwhile, Mason Mount also appears to be set for a move to Manchester United after reportedly agreeing terms with the Red Devils.
Sky’s report also adds that Pochettino has Colwill “firmly in his plans” beyond the transfer window. More

And according to The Telegraph, the playmaker is now expected to join United ahead of the summer transfer window.
The same report claims talks between the England international and the Red Devils have progressed positively since last Thursday when Erik ten Hag’s men beat the Blues 4-1 at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old is determined to leave Chelsea and the club won’t stand in his way.
In fact, the West Londoners will try and attract a fee as high as possible in order to avoid losing him for free in 2024.

Mount has also attracted interest from Arsenal as well as Liverpool but it appears United are winning the bidding war.
The versatile midfielder as well as forward’s departure signals the start of a major overhaul under Chelsea’s new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
This comes after Manchester City held positive transfer talks with Mateo Kovacic’s representatives.
Todd Boehly is open to selling Kovacic after he also entered the final year of his contract.

And “concrete talks” have now begun between the two Premier League giants over a summer deal.
Pochettino has also offloaded Joao Felix and Denis Zakaria who returned to Atletico Madrid and Juventus respectively after their loan stints ended.
Chelsea academy graduate Dujon Sterling, on the other hand, has joined Rangers.
And Ruben Loftus-Cheek appears to have agreed a move to AC Milan. More

I played with greats like Cantona, Cole, Lineker, Vialli and Zola… here’s why Haaland is BETTER than all of them

MARK HUGHES played with some of the greatest strikers that football has ever seen. There was Eric Cantona and Andy Cole at Manchester United, Gianluca Vialli and Gianfranco Zola at Chelsea and Gary Lineker at Barcelona.
Mark Hughes reckons Erling Haaland is already the best striker England has ever seenCredit: PA
Hughes played with countless legendary forwards like Eric CantonaCredit: PA:Press Association
Yet the Welshman has never seen anything quite like the machine that is Erling Haaland.
Hughes was no ordinary front man himself but he has been blown away by Haaland’s first season at City where he has already bagged an astonishing 52 goals with FA Cup and Champions League finals still to come
He told SunSport: “I can’t say I’ve ever seen a phenomenon quite like Haaland. And he will surely only get better because he’s clearly driven.
“He’s not going to get motivated by money because he’s already a very wealthy young man.

“He just wants to make his mark on the game. For him it’s not about how many cars he’s got in the garage or whatever.
“It’s about ‘What can I do to make people remember me in the game?’ That’s his motivation.”
There are few in the game, if any, who can discuss Haaland’s attributes with such authority.
When it comes to playing alongside the greats, not just forwards – and even signing some as a manager – Hughes has seen and done most of it.

He teamed up with Eric Cantona in the charismatic double act that helped Sir Alex Ferguson end 26 years of title hurt in 1993 and made it back-to-back triumphs the following season.
Amongst his Old Trafford alumni were also Cole, Brian McClair, Paul Scholes, Bryan Robson, Norman Whiteside, David Beckham and Ryan Giggs.
In a brief spell at Barcelona in the 1986-87 campaign his front-line partner was Gary Lineker. While on-loan at Bayern Munich he shared a dressing room with Lothar Mattheus
And, after scoring a total of 163 goals in 473 games for the Red Devils he left for Chelsea in 1995 and his sidekicks were Gianfranco Zola and Gianluca Vialli.
He then went on to play for Southampton linking up with the mercurial Matt Le Tissier.
When Hughes cut his teeth in management with his country before moving to Blackburn and then found himself the first boss of the Abu Dhabi era which began with the £32.5million entrance of Brazilian Robinho.

But before Sheik Mansour began his £2billion onslaught on the game it was Hughes who signed Vincent Kompany and Pablo Zabaleta.
However, for all those famous names he has played and worked with, his admiration for Haaland knows no bounds.
The 59-year-old insists that with Haaland big is beautiful, saying: “There have always been big strikers in the game, players that would knock defenders around.
“But there were always compromises, there was always something that they weren’t quite as good at.
“They maybe weren’t quick enough, or technically they weren’t the best, maybe their heading could have been better.
I can’t say I’ve ever seen a phenomenon quite like Haaland. And he will surely only get better because he’s clearly driven.Mark Hughes
“But you look at this kid and there isn’t anything he can’t do.
“He’s got power, he’s got pace, he’s got intelligence as well. And he can tie in with the kind of football Pep Guardiola plays.
“He’s got so many talented players around him and he’s very quickly understood that.
“He’s constantly scanning the game and thinking: ‘How can I best hurt the opposition?’
“Haaland is an intelligent footballer and he can quickly work out what he needs to do to turn opposition defences.
“He recognises that he can hurt teams in so many different ways.
“That’s what makes it really difficult to cope with him – he’s a combination of physicality, pace, and he’s bright too.

The Welshman had a strong connection with Andy ColeCredit: PA:Empics Sport
“Pace frightens defenders anyway and that’s not generally something you see in big strikers who are six foot three or whatever.
“Sometimes you get guys who are quick but don’t know how to use it.
“Decision-making gets in the way. They get themselves into dangerous situations but then cross when they should pass, or pass then they should shoot.
“Playing alongside the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva has only helped his education and honed an intelligence that was already developing when he was at Borussia Dortmund.

“Pep Guardiola’s influence is obviously crucial too. Really there’s nothing he can’t achieve, no limits.
“He will keep lifting himself to new, amazing levels because he is, indeed, a phenomenon the likes we’ve never seen in this era – and maybe ever.” More

Bruno, 25, is already Newcastle’s highest earner on £120,000-a-week but will be handed improved terms on his current deal, which expires in 2026, ahead of next season’s Champions League campaign.

Mags boss Eddie Howe was tight-lipped over Bruno’s fresh terms when quizzed last week.
But he said: “The club is very keen to protect their assets and be ahead of the curve in terms of contract length and making sure we’re in a strong position.
“But also recognising players who have done well and rewarding them for their performances.”
SunSport revealed on Wednesday that Portuguese forward Joao Felix has been offered to Newcastle after being bombed out by Chelsea following his sixth-moan loan deal.
He is surplus to requirements at parent club Atletico Madrid, who are now trying to get him off their books.
Felix, 23, has also been touted to go to Paris Saint-Germain but wants to stay in the Premier League and play Champions League football.
Atletico are ready to strike another loan deal but want a modest fee plus the player’s wages of around £200k a week covered, which would be a sticking point for Toon boss Eddie Howe.
The Blues paid Felix’s wages in full after signing him on loan in January for a fee of £9.7million. More
