Man Utd star Casemiro opens up on heated spat with Bruno Fernandes the last time pair played at Wembley

TO watch Casemiro tearing into Bruno Fernandes you would be forgiven for thinking there is problem between the two.It was the end of the Carabao Cup Final as Fernandes began to celebrate the 2-0 win over Newcastle when Casemiro grabbed him by the arm and started remonstrating.

He was unhappy that Fernandes had shot rather than teed him up for a simpler chance near the end of the game.
It was the same at the final whistle of Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa at the end of April after Fernandes lost the ball in the closing seconds.
But Casemiro explains these are just examples of how the pair drive each other on as he opened up about his close relationship with someone he describes as ‘the engine’ of the team.
Casemiro, 31, said: “I have a very good relationship with Bruno, we get on really well, and as you get to know him as a player, I can say this with complete confidence, he is one of the most important players at the club and everyone sees what a great player he is.

“We could spend all day talking about how good Bruno is because he is a fantastic player but to be honest and I say this to him, I expect a great deal from him because in my eyes, he’s one of the most important players in the team.
“So, when he misses a chance, when one of his passes goes astray, we always want him to do everything perfectly but these are normal conversations.
“I’ve never had an argument with Bruno, the opposite in fact, I just always demand a lot from him, and he demands a lot from me too.
“Behind the scenes too, sometimes we’ll say to each other, ‘You could have scored, you could have done better there, because you’ve got the quality to do it’.

Indeed Casemiro puts it down to fellow Portuguese speaker Fernandes that he has been able to settle in to United so seamlessly in his first season.
He said: “When I arrived here, and it was down to the language, I was fortunate that Bruno would always help me a great deal. He was always brilliant with me.
“He taught me lots about the club, what it means.
“When I speak about Bruno, I have great affection for him because he’s a player that helped me from the beginning in terms of the language and he’s a fantastic player, an incredible player, someone who brings a great deal to the team.
“He’s the driving force of the team, the one that helps us the most. The team’s engine if you like.”
That ‘engine’ will need to be at full throttle for Saturday’s FA Cup final as they take on Champions Manchester City who are heading for a treble.
For United victory would make it a domestic Cup double on top of a third place league finish.
Nobody could have predicted that after an opening day loss followed by that 4-0 thumping away to Brentford.
The fear after that game was Casemiro would run a mile from his prospective move to Old Trafford from Real Madrid where he had won five Champions Leagues and three La Ligas.
Quite the opposite, he sent a message to United’s Director of Football John Murtough that he ‘would fix it’.
He said: “To be honest I did say that. I was speaking to my agent, and with John too about this afterwards.
“I’d said this after it had happened because I was also very excited and I was aware that my period at Real Madrid had come to an end and I was really upbeat about coming here and taking on this new project, this new challenge. It was clear in my mind.
“I had no second thoughts at all.
“I knew that it wouldn’t be an easy challenge because it was a tough defeat to take for us but I think the excitement of coming here and making a change. We knew that there was still a long way to go.
“I think the difference from then to now is the time that the manager has been here.
Apart from the EFL Cup final, Casemiro and Fernandes also exchanged words after beating Aston Villa at the end of AprilCredit: @footballdaily
“We understand his philosophy when it comes to working and that’s normal in football.
“In my eyes the manager has had a great season, the club has had a great season but of course we’re excited and it’s lovely to playing in a FA Cup final.”
Casemiro was part of the Real team that beat City over two legs in the Champions League semi-final last season.
He also helped the Red Devils gain revenge for a 6-3 drubbing at The Etihad, a game he came on in after 59 minutes with the team 4-1 down, with a 2-1 victory in the return fixture at Old Trafford.
So he knows they can be beaten and how to do it.
He said: “We know that we have to play very well because they will give us a good game.
“They play very good football, have a great manager, great players but every game is a different story, a different film as we like to say.
“It’s a very important game but we also know that it’s one you should enjoy. It’s a final to enjoy.”
Casemiro has become a hero in the stands at Old Trafford for his contribution in this his first season.
He was devastated by the two red cards he received that kept him out of action for a total of seven games, having already been suspended for one after receiving five yellows.
Without him United just weren’t the same.
His impact has been in contrast to some other high profile players that can be named who came to Old Trafford towards the latter part of their careers.

He said: “The club and fans have been brilliant with me since day one. I love the affection I get from them and that everyone has behaved so well towards me so I’m very happy and I’m enjoying myself as if I was 20-year-old kid.
“It’s because I’m very happy here and it isn’t just me, it’s my whole family too that are very happy here. More

Meet Man Utd’s ‘secret weapon’ coach who is invaluable to Erik ten Hag and won over Casemiro with impressive skill

ERIC RAMSAY has become a vital cog in the Manchester United machine this season. The coach has been invaluable to manager Erik ten Hag since the Dutchman’s arrival last summer and has been dubbed the club’s “secret weapon”.

Ramsay, 31, is one of the most highly-rated young coaches in world football while he works day-to-day with the players on and off the pitch.
The Welshman began to forge his reputation at Old Trafford in 2021 after being hired to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his reign as manager.
The former Chelsea U23 assistant coach was initially tasked with improving the Red Devils’ effectiveness from set-pieces.
Blackpool made an approach to make Ramsay manager at the club, but United executives convinced him to stay as they valued him so highly.

Ramsay has forged relationships with United’s stars due to his ability to speak fluent Spanish.
Players such as Casemiro were impressed by the young coach following his £70million arrival from Real Madrid as he was able to have a full conversation.
The skill to speak with foreign players has made Ramsay be able to help them settle in their new surroundings quicker.
United hired him after the club received a glowing recommendation from former club coach and current Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna.

McKenna and Ramsay studied at Loughborough University together.
Ramsay graduated in 2013 with a first-class honours degree and shortly after was hired by Swansea City and worked with the U21s and U18s for three and half years.
After leaving the Swans, Ramsay took up a role at hometown club Shrewsbury as the head of academy and coaching.
He even became the temporary manager for six games following John Askey’s sacking in 2018 ahead of Sam Ricketts’ appointment.
Ramsay and Ricketts had both studied for their Uefa Pro Licence with the Welsh FA before ending up together at the Shrewsbury.

When Ramsay got the role at United, Ricketts was not surprised as he said: “His personality is the big thing.
    “He’s a people person.
“He’s a very rounded individual who won’t be fazed by anything but who will be very attentive and detail-driven in everything he does.”
Despite United’s goalscoring from set-pieces not improving under Ramsay, he was defended by club legend and technical director Darren Fletcher.
The Scot insisted that the coach had been hired to solidify the defence when facing set pieces.
He said: “People only give the one narrative about scoring from set pieces.
“The biggest reason Eric was brought in was because we were conceding too many goals from set pieces.
“We have really improved our defending from set pieces and wide free-kicks this season.
    “Eric is a fantastic coach.”
That difference has been clear to see in the recent Premier League campaign as the club only conceded 43 goals, a record bettered by only Manchester City and Newcastle.
His skills have also been noticed internationally as he joined the Welsh backroom staff in March and was hailed by manager Rob Page.
He described Ramsay as “one of the best young coaches in football.”

Ramsay’s ability has aided United to one of their best seasons in recent times, having qualified for the Champions League and picked up a Carabao Cup trophy.
The Red Devils also have the chance to make it a domestic double on Saturday as they face City in the FA Cup final. More

And even though the treble is up for grabs over the next week for Manchester City, the manager has vowed to stick with him.
Some fans may consider it a gamble with so much at stake but the former Barcelona coach believes it is the right decision.
Guardiola said: “Stefan’s going to play yeah. It’s always like that, even in Barcelona, the keeper who has played FA Cup will start.”

And according to the bookies, Gerrard is being hotly tipped to take over as manager.
The 43-year-old has been out of management since losing his job at Aston Villa last October.
Gerrard is yet to take charge of a Championship club, but accepting the role at Elland Road could put his managerial career back on track following an underwhelming spell with Villa.
Leeds midfielder Jack Harrison has previously admitted that the former Liverpool captain was one of his heroes growing up.

In an interview with Football Focus last year, he said: “I grew up a Liverpool fan so Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen [were my heroes] but the biggest one for me was Ronaldinho. I always loved watching his technique and touches and he was just an icon for me.”
Along with Gerrard, the likes of Carlos Corberan, Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter, Ralph Hasenhuttl and Rafa Benitez have all been linked with the job.
Allardyce was appointed Leeds boss at the beginning of May following the dismissal of Javi Gracia.
He had just four games to lead the club to safety, but the Whites fell short on the final day of the season.

“I’d also like to highlight the outstanding work of Karl Robinson and Robbie Keane who have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks.
“At this stage in my career I am not sure taking on this challenge, which is potentially a long-term project, is something I could commit to, but I wish the club every success for the future and hope the club returns to the Premier League, where they belong.” More

The brand new launch of hit 90s show Gladiators will begin filming this week in Sheffield.
There will be 16 phenomenal Gladiators competing in the show in a series of new and classic challenges against a brave set of contenders in the ultimate test of strength and speed.
However, someone will be needing to ensure that everyone will be kept in line on the BBC show.
And that is now the task of the 48-year-old Clattenburg, one of England’s most-decorated referees.

We revealed in March how Clattenburg is taking some time away from football after leaving Egypt where he was in charge of officials.
The ex-Premier League whistler suffered some outrageous abuse from Mortada Mansour, the president of Zamalek Sporting Club.
That led to him leaving due to safety fears after threats from fans.
Mansour has been critical of Clattenburg’s role in Egyptian football and incorrectly claimed that the ex-ref had left his wife to start a gay relationship.

Clattenburg has decided to leave Egypt as he feared for his safety following threats from the supporters of Zamalek.
Clattenburg left the English top flight in February 2017 to take over as the head of refereeing in Saudi Arabia and he also had stints working in China and Greece.
Now the ex Fifa-listed official, who has overseen the 2016 FA Cup, Champions League and European Championships Finals, cannot wait to call out the legendary “Contenders ready, Gladiators ready” catchphrase in his new role.
Clattenburg said: “It’s amazing. When you look back to when it first started in the 90s, Gladiators was so iconic and wherever you go in the world, people have heard of Gladiators.”
He added: “Growing up, I used to sit and watch every show. John Anderson, the original referee, was so legendary.

And following Luton’s stunning promotion to the Premier League, Arsenal fans reckon a Friday night trip to Kenilworth Road is beckoning.
After a Twitter account posted a picture of Luton’s home ground, a disgruntled Gooner wrote: “I wonder who the definitely completely random Premier League fixture generator will have them start the season against on a Friday night.”
