Arsenal weighing up swap transfer for Galatasaray star Sacha Boey but face competition from Premier League rivals

Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen to strengthen his options at right-back in order to provide support for Ben White.
White played in all 38 of Arsenal’s league matches during the 2022/23 season as fellow right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu dealt with multiple injury issues.
Boey is understood to have been valued at £22million by Galatasaray, with Arsenal’s opening bid thought to be below this value.
However, the Gunners could now land their man for a lower fee by including a player in the deal.

According to journalist Resat Can Ozbudak, via Football London, Nuno Tavares could be included as part of the deal.
The report adds that Tavares’ representatives have met with Galatasaray over a potential transfer.
Tavares spent last season on loan at Marseille after joining Arsenal in 2021.
His future is not set to be decided until after the Under-21 European Championships in Romania and Georgia.

Boey will also appear at the tournament after being called up by France’s under-21 side for the first time.
Arsenal are not the only side after the 22-year-old, though, with Brighton & Hove Albion also making a bid for Boey.
Turkish outlet 343 Digital reported last month that Brighton had submitted a £16million bid, said to be more than Arsenal’s opening offer.
Boey made 33 appearances for Galatasaray last season as he helped his side win their first league title since 2019.

West Ham boss David Moyes is relishing this evening’s match – which he never even envisioned his team taking part in at the start of the season.
He said: “If you’d have told anybody before I came in that we would finish sixth and seventh in the Premier League, get to the semi-final of a European competition [the 2021-22 Europa League].
“And then the year after get to the final, they would have said, ‘No, that’s not true’.
“There’s a lot of really good things going on and we have given lots of the West Ham supporters and the club lots of really good times.
    “Long may it continue.

Five amazing Premier League teams who got relegated, including 2003 West Ham side and Middlesbrough with Juninho

THE PREMIER LEAGUE season came to a dramatic close with an intense relegation scrap.Southampton were already doomed as they had plunged to the bottom of the English top flight after a rough campaign that saw them change three managers.
Leicester were relegated just seven years after winning the Premier LeagueCredit: Getty
It all came down to Everton, Leeds as well as Leicester and two of them were condemned to follow Saints to the Championship.
All three of them carried a heavy legacy in the Prem, and so did Southampton.
The Foxes, especially, were fighting for survival only seven years after they shocked the world and won the title in what will forever be remembered as the greatest underdog story in football history.
At the end, Leicester couldn’t replicate any of the spark from 2016 and went down along with Leeds after Everton defeated Bournemouth 1-0.

Some of these teams may have felt too good to go down.
Of course, such a thing does not exist – you are down there on merit.
But, better teams have gone down in the past – as the below list shows…
    Newcastle – 2008-09
THE 2008-09 season was an utter disaster for the Toon.

By the time they were relegated, Newcastle had seen FOUR different managers scrape together just seven wins.
Kevin Keegan, Joe Kinnear, Chris Hughton and club legend Alan Shearer all took charge of the club.
But it was Shearer – who vowed to keep the Magpies up – who oversaw the eventual and somewhat inevitable demise, finishing 18th just one point away from survival.
For a team of Newcastle’s size and with a squad boasting Michael Owen, Damien Duff, Nicky Butt, Obafemi Martins, Jose Enrique, Joey Barton and Mark Viduka, playing in the Championship was utterly alien.
They would go on to win the league and bounce straight back to the Premier League, but for a team that strong to go down was remarkable.

    Leeds – 2003-04
MUCH like Newcastle, Leeds fell into the bracket of clubs ‘too big to go down’.
But in 2004, the Elland Road giants slipped out of the top flight and wouldn’t return for 16 years – even slipping into League One for three seasons during that time.
In 2003-04, Leeds won just eight matches en route to finishing 19th in the Prem, shipping a league-high 79 goals with the club in financial turmoil.
The Yorkshire side had a strong squad, too – with the likes of Viduka, Paul Robinson, Nicky Barmby, Alan Smith, Aaron Lennon and James Milner on the books.

    West Ham – 2002-03
EVEN the magic 40-point mark wasn’t enough for the Hammers in 2002-03.
To this day, West Ham’s tally of 42 points that year is the highest for a relegated team.
For context, the East London giants also secured 42 points in 2017-18.. and finished 13th.
But for a team boasting Jermain Defoe, Paolo di Canio, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Les Ferdinand, David James, Trevor Sinclair and more to go down? Madness.
Ultimately the star-studded squad finished two points adrift off 17th-placed Bolton.
More bizarrely still, it took West Ham two attempts to break back into the big time, eventually scraping through the Championship play-offs despite finishing sixth.

    Blackburn – 1998-99
IN 1993-94, Blackburn won the Premier League trophy. In 1997-98, they finished sixth.
And at the start of the 1998-99 season, they were being tipped to challenge for a second title, now under Roy Hodgson.
Rovers boasted the likes of Duff, Stephane Henchoz, Chris Sutton, Kevin Davies, Tim Sherwood and Tim Flowers.
Despite that, Blackburn finished the season in 19th after winning a woeful five games.
Hodgson was sacked midway through the disastrous campaign with no player in the squad scoring more than five league goals.

    Middlesbrough – 1996-97
EVEN the heroics of Juninho and Fabrizio Ravanelli couldn’t save Boro in 1996-97.
The Italian striker scored 31 times in all competitions – including an opening day hat-trick in a 3-3 draw against Liverpool – with the Brazilian midfield magician in full flow behind him.
However, despite that, Middlesbrough slumped into the second tier after finishing two points shy of safety.

After a strong start to the season – winning three and losing just one of their first six games – Boro failed to win a single match between September 21 and December 26.
Under player-manager Bryan Robson, Middlesbrough finished 19th, one point behind 18th-placed Sunderland and two adrift of Coventry and Southampton, who survived by the skin of their teeth.

Tuchel replaced Julian Nagelsmann as Bayern boss in March and was dropped into a season full of upheaval.
Despite the club securing the league title on the final day of the season, CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić were both sacked.
It is understood the new regime will give Tuchel free reign to swing the axe and bring in players he wants.
According to German outlet Bild, Sadio Mane is a top priority to be sold – despite only arriving last summer.

The winger has not lived up to expectations since joining from Liverpool to replace Robert Lewandowski – scoring just seven times and returning five assists in 25 Bundesliga games.
His frustration boiled over following Bayern’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final in April.
The winger was suspended by the club after he punched team-mate Leroy Sane and despite having his suspension overturned, was not able to nail down a place in the XI.
The club have lost patience with the Senegalese star and deem him surplus to requirements.

Sane could also follow Mane out of the exit door, with Thomas Tuchel willing to listen to offers for him and fellow German international Serge Gnabry.
Gnabry fuelled rumours of a return to Arsenal when he said “once a Gunner always a Gunner” when asked if he still follows his former club at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The club are also keen to cash in on World Cup winning right-back Benjamin Pavard amid reported interest from Barcelona, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Bayern are understood to be holding out for a £25million fee for the French international.
Rounding out the seven-strong list are former Manchester United loanee Marcel Sabitzer, right-back Bouna Sarr and goalkeeper Alexander Nubel.
Bayern hope the cash raised from the sales will help fund a move for top summer target Declan Rice – who is also attracting interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.
West Ham are reportedly holding out for a £100m fee. More

Maguire’s series of blunders last season led to him playing second fiddle to Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and even left-back Luke Shaw at the heart of United’s defence.
And Ten Hag recently hinted that he’s willing to let the England international leave the Theatre of Dreams this summer.
The Dutchman told The Times: “Let’s say I’m happy he’s here and when we needed him he did his job.
“But it’s also a decision he has to make.
“No one would be happy with this situation – he is not as well. He trains always on the best levels, so with 100% effort.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 after a woman alleged physical and sexual abuse on social media.
But the 21-year-old striker’s alleged rape and assault charges were dropped in February this year.
The CPS withdrew the case after his alleged victim and a dozen more witnesses refused to co-operate.
Despite this, Greenwood has still not set foot on the pitch with the Red Devils launching their own investigation earlier this year.

The outcome of this investigation will determine United’s next steps in tackling the issue.
And although this process hasn’t yet been finalised, it has reportedly moved forward and a conclusion is getting closer, reports MEN.
According to the outlet, a final decision on what action to take against the player will be made by club owners the Glazer family, in consultation with chief executive Richard Arnold.
It comes as The Sun exclusively revealed in April that Greenwood has told pals he will never play for United again.

The striker is said to have now been resigned to trying to reignite his career abroad.
It also emerged that Juventus are ready to offer Greenwood a fresh start in Italy alongside former teammate Paul Pogba.
Greenwood, who hit 36 goals in 130 games for United, still has two years left on his £75,000-a-week contract.
Manchester United said in February: “The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps.
“We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”
The Old Trafford outfit already have a number of big decisions to make on the future of players such as Harry Maguire and David de Gea this summer. More

His contract was extended by a further season earlier this year, meaning it now runs until 2024.
However, according to French newspaper Nice-Matin, Ramsey wants to stay at the Allianz Riviera Stadium until at least 2025.
Nice are currently understood to be reluctant to sanction another extension, so the midfielder could be “tempted” by a move elsewhere this summer.
Ramsey made 34 appearances for the French side during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring once and assisting three goals.
