Southend defender Ollie Kensdale has been likened to Stones
The Tractor Boys have been keen on Kensdale for the past 12 months.
They were considering snapping him up last summer before loaning him back, but talks broke down.
Despite getting promoted to the Championship last season, Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna – a former coach at Manchester United – could still do a deal for the National League defender.
Kensdale broke through at Colchester United before spells at Bath City, Braintree Town and Concord Rangers.

He has been compared to Manchester City star Stones.
Like Stones, his ball-playing ability from the back has caught the eyes of numerous scouts.
However, he has gone the opposite way to Stone, evolving from a midfielder to a central defender.
Kensdale has a year left on his current contract, with Southend expected to demand a sizeable fee.

Top 10 most expensive British footballers of all time as Jude Bellingham smashes record after Real Madrid transfer

JUDE BELLINGHAM has become the most expensive British footballer of all time. The 19-year-old midfielder completed a record-breaking £115million move from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid on Wednesday following months of negotiations.

The midfielder is now the most expensive British player of all time
He now sits at the top of an elite list of players including the likes of Jack Grealish, Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and Ben White – all of whom cost their respective clubs a substantial amount of money.
The majority of those stars have justified their hefty price tags with consistent performances, but some have struggled to impress.
SunSport’s Emillia Hawkins takes a look at the top 10 most expensive British players of all time to see if they have been a hit or missed the mark.

Although we are yet to see Bellingham in a Real Madrid shirt, his performances for both Borussia Dortmund and England have largely warranted his record-breaking fee.
    READ MORE ON BELLINGHAM
At just 19-years-old, the midfielder is yet to hit his prime and still has at least a decade in the game ahead of him.
He already has 24 senior England caps under his belt along with 124 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, including some as captain, so he is more than comfortable on the big stage.
    Jack Grealish

The fun-loving winger joined Manchester City in a huge £100m transfer from Aston Villa in 2021.
Although he struggled to find his feet during his first season at the Etihad, Grealish has since established himself as one of Pep Guardiola’s most important players.

This season, he made 50 appearances for the Cityzens and helped them to a historic treble, so it would be fair to say that his £100m fee was justified.
He has entertained the nation both on the pitch and off it, on his four-day Treble bender.
    Harry Maguire

Maguire joined Manchester United in 2019 for a then-world-record fee of £85m.
He has since made 175 appearances for the Red Devils, but his time at the club has been mixed.
The defender fell out-of-favour with new boss Erik ten Hag this season following a poor run of form.
And he is now expected to move away this summer – for a much smaller fee than what he was initially bought for.
    Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho was another marquee signing for the Red DevilsCredit: Getty
Another one of Man Utd’s marquee signings, Sancho signed for the Red Devils in a £75million transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
Like Maguire, his time at the club has been mixed.
He struggled to find his feet at Old Trafford, scoring just five goals in 38 appearances during his first season.
Sancho’s mixed form continued into the 2022-23 campaign, but his performances were also affected by injuries and illnesses.
He is now being linked with a move elsewhere, with Tottenham readying a £50m bid.
    Ben White
Arsenal spent £50m on Ben WhiteCredit: Alamy
The defender joined Arsenal in a £50m move from Brighton in 2021.
Although many fans were sceptical of his price tag, White quickly became a mainstay in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
He is now considered as one of Arsenal’s key players.
White played a crucial role in Arsenal’s Premier League title charge this season, appearing in all 38 games.
    Raheem Sterling

Sterling made the blockbuster move from Liverpool to Man City in 2015.
The move set the Cityzens back £49m, which felt like a fortune at the time.
But that fee was certainly worth it.
He scored 131 goals in 339 appearances for Man City during his seven-year spell at the Etihad and won four Premier League titles, an FA Cup and five League Cups.
Sterling signed for Chelsea for a similar fee last summer and made 38 appearances across all competitions this season.

The full-back joined Man Utd in a £49m move from Crystal Palace in 2019.
The majority of his time at Old Trafford has prompted mixed responses from fans.
But Wan-Bissaka flourished in the second half of the season under the management of Ten Hag.
    John Stones
John Stones joined Man City for £47.5m in 2016Credit: Getty
The £47.5m Man City paid for Stones back in 2016 now looks like a complete bargain.
It was considered a lot of money for a defender back then, but when you look at what the England ace has won during his time at the Etihad, it is easy to see that he was worth every penny.
Stones has five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and a Champions League title to his name.
And he will go down in history as a crucial member of Man City’s historic Treble-winning squad.
    Kyle Walker

Like Stones, there is not much on a club level that Walker hasn’t won.
He joined City one year after his England team-mate, but the full-back has the same number of accolades.
His £45m move from Tottenham can easily be justified by the impact he’s had on Guardiola’s squad.

Johnson, 22, impressed for Forest last season and the club are unlikely to let him go for a fee of anywhere near £30m.
Brentford first tried to sign Johnson in 2021 and then repeatedly attempted to land him in January 2022 with the biggest bid being £18m.
The West London club also registered their interest last summer but Forest, newly promoted to the Premier League, insisted they were not interested in selling their star asset.
Brentford are now trying again although they face competition from Villa and also West Ham.

It looks as though clubs would have to offer way beyond £40m before Forest would even think of selling.
Brentford have only just completed the permanent signing of German forward Kevin Schade for a club record fee of about £20m.
But they look set to lose keeper David Raya as Tottenham and Man Utd circle for the Spanish shot-stopper, 27.

Reports suggest that Tottenham could look to sign players that Postecoglou has worked with before.
Kyogo Furuhashi scored 54 goals in 83 games at Celtic and is likely to attract interest this summer.
SunSport previously revealed that Spurs could launch a £20million bid for the Japanese striker.
And it would not come as a surprise to those at Parkhead to see Kyogo follow their former boss in moving to the Premier League.

Ex-Celtic ace Mark Wilson believes Postecoglou will be desperate to be reunited with his star man.
He told The Herald: “I wouldn’t like to see any of them [Celtic players] going out the door.
“I believe they give Celtic the best chance of retaining the title against a Rangers that, in my opinion, is definitely going to be better than we’ve seen.
“It also gives them the best opportunity in the Champions League.

“But who could I see Postecoglou coming for? The obvious one is Kyogo.
“Kyogo was brought in and was the catalyst for everything that happened at Celtic.
“Postecoglou made everybody aware of that, Kyogo was the signing that kicked everything off.
“Even when you hear some of the players talking about Kyogo; the way he plays and the character he is, he really does set the tone for a Postecoglou team. You can understand why he would look at him.”
With speculation that Harry Kane could leave, along with Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski’s dip in form last season, Spurs are likely to add to their attacking options this summer.
Meanwhile, they have also been linked with Brentford goalkeeper David Raya. More

The Manchester City winger has only just halted his four-day bender in order to link up with the England squad ahead of their European Championship qualifier against Malta on Friday.
Grealish is not expected to play in Friday’s game, with Gareth Southgate set to assess his City players’ readiness ahead of Monday’s clash with North Macedonia.

Wales boss Robert Page monitors Wrexham hotshot Paul Mullin after incredible 46-goal season

Wales boss Robert Page will monitor Mullin’s form in League Two next seasonCredit: Gemma Thomas Photography
Mullin, 28, was born in Liverpool but qualifies for Wales through his grandmother.
The ex-Cambridge hotshot hopes his goal scoring heroics for Wrexham, owned by Hollywood A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, can lead to an international call-up.
But Wales boss Robert Page, who overlooked Mullin for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Armenia and Turkey this month, wants to see how he fares in League Two next season.
Page said: “If he’s playing in League Two and scoring goals, then we will look at and consider him.
    read more football news
“But there’s a massive gap from where he’s been to League Two. We will continue to monitor him.
“I watched him against Sheffield United in the FA Cup and I was very impressed by him. I wouldn’t want to play against him.
“Forget his goal scoring and his eye for goal, I like him because he’s a pain in the backside to play against.
“He’s like a rat, I like his work rate and I want that.
    Most read in Football
BETTING SPECIAL – BEST SPORTS BETTING APPS IN THE UK
“We will keep monitoring him and if he keeps scoring goals as he goes up the levels he’ll prove himself.”
Meanwhile, Page reckons Brennan Johnson dropping to the bench for Nottingham Forest in the closing weeks of the Premier League season will be the best thing for his future.
Forward Johnson impressed with Steve Cooper’s side on their return to the Prem with eight league goals.
But the 22-year-old found himself on the bench for big matches against Chelsea and Arsenal in the final month of the season as Cooper turned to Taiwo Awoniyi to keep Forest up.
Yet Page, who will start Johnson against Armenia in a Cardiff on Friday night, believes his time on the sidelines will benefit the forward in the long-term.
Page said: “You get a level of inconsistency of performance with your younger players, and it certainly won’t have harmed him in any way to have missed a few games at Forest.
“He has to manage that when he gets a little dip in form.
“Because he scored so many goals, and because he is a constant threat – one of the best counter attacking footballers in the Premier League – he set a precedent.
“You have to manage the pressure on your players then and it’s probably not the worst thing in my opinion that he’s found himself out of the team for the last few games.”
Johnson is back in the Wales fold after missing the March qualifiers – a 1-1 draw with Croatia and 1-0 win over Latvia – with a groin injury.
Forget his goal scoring and his eye for goal, I like him because he’s a pain in the backside to play against. He’s like a rat, I like his work rate and I want that. Rob Page on Paul Mullin
Page was unhappy with Forest’s handling of the injury as Johnson continued to play for his club despite carrying a fitness problem which then ruled him out for his country.
But the Dragons chief is delighted to welcome back the speedy Johnson into his attack.
Wales bid to move a step closer to Euro 2024 qualification in Germany next summer with positive results over Armenia and then Turkey away next Monday night.
Page added: “Brennan was playing week in, week out for Forest in the Premiership and he was kept at the top end of the pitch from a counter attacking perspective.
“You are always going to miss your best players, but we had to ask others to step up to the plate and the two performances overall were outstanding.
“To finish off in the Latvia game with the highest percentage possession we’ve had in the last five years goes to show we’ve got rid of the disappointment of the World Cup.
“The players are embracing what we’re asking them to do moving forward and it suits the players. They enjoy playing that way.”
Wales are wary they must score more goals in the post-Gareth Bale era after the record goal scorer hung up his boots in January.
Page said: “It’s one of the things we are addressing.
“We won the last game 1-0 and while I was happy with the performance and how we controlled the game, that final detail at the top of the pitch is where we need to improve.
“Having people like Brennan back fit, DJ (Dan James), Harry Wilson and David Brooks available is only going to help us achieve that.
“The difficulty at international level compared to club level is you can’t go out and buy a player to suit your way of playing.
“You have to adapt – even when the game is going on. With the personnel we’ve got we can have two or three different formations without any problem.
    Read more on The Sun
“The game plan might change with a game. Having players like Brennan will give us the opportunity to get higher up the pitch and score more goals.
“We’ve got some good players and the problem now is finding out how to get them all into the same team.” More
