Exact date Mason Greenwood’s future with Man United has to be decided by as club probe suspended star

And because the forward is still an Under-21 player, United could include him in their squad at any time in the next 14 months without having to register him.
Had he been over that age, the club would have needed to decide before the end of the transfer window whether to include him in the senior squad or sideline him for at least another five months when it opens again in January.
Premier League clubs must submit a 25-man squad after each transfer window closes.
It can contain no more than 17 players who do not fulfil ‘home grown player’ criteria.

The remainder of the squad must be home grown – a player who has been registered with a club for three seasons before turning 21.
U21 players do not need to be registered in a Premier League squad.
It comes as Women’s Aid said the Premier League should do more to fight domestic violence in light of Greenwood’s suspension.
Greenwood, who was born on October 1, 2001, was suspended by United after being charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges on February 2 after key witnesses withdrew their involvement in the case.
He remains suspended pending an internal probe at Manchester United but is still a contracted player.
The investigation revolves around whether he brought the club into disrepute and was in breach of his contract.
Greenwood, who is expecting a child with his partner, has spent 19 weeks waiting for a decision on the probe.
SunSport exclusively revealed Juventus want to offer Greenwood a fresh start in Italy.
He has also been linked with a loan move to Turkey or Spain.
Greenwood has two years left on his £75,000-a-week Old Trafford deal. More

Chelsea star Thiago Silva reveals rare illness almost forced him to retire from football

He has won the Serie A title, seven Ligue 1 titles, and the Champions League.
The centre-back also lifted the Copa America with Brazil back in 2019.
But he could have been deprived of all of that had his tuberculosis worsened – a condition which forced him to undergo surgery on his lung.
It occurred during his time in Russia – where he was on loan at Dynamo Moscow but never played a single game – before he headed to Portugal to finish his recovery.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Speaking to Chelsea’s club website, he said: “I spent six months in Russia. It was one of the worst times of my life. I didn’t know if I was ever going to be able to play football again. I just had a dream that I would, but I didn’t know for sure.
“I moved to Dynamo Moscow in Russia on loan from Porto and during the pre-season, I suddenly started to feel very ill. I had some tests done on me and it was confirmed I had tuberculosis and that it was already very advanced.
“Because of how advanced it was, the doctors decided it would be best for me to stay in hospital for treatment.
“The doctors in Russia wanted to perform surgery on my lung. With that, I know with certain that I wouldn’t have played football again. It was a really tough time.”

He continued: “I listened to the advice of the people around me, those the closest to me. My mother, my girlfriend, my manager.
“I listened to them and knew I had to do what they were telling me to do. They wanted only the best for me and I knew they were the ones looking out for me. The decision was made.
“My solicitor came to an agreement to make sure that I left the hospital in Russia and could finish my treatment in Portugal. This was really important for me.
“I stayed three more months there. Every day, taking my medicine and going on my daily walks. It was a long wait. But eventually I had the chance to go to the specialist and he told me that I should remain calm.
“Calm?! How could I stay calm?
“Then, after a period of time, he told me what I so desperately wanted to hear. I could go back to playing football and fulfil my dream.
“Once you get past a difficult period in your life, you know you’ll be victorious. Not only for fulfilling your dream, your destiny of playing football but also for winning all the titles that you longed for and dreamed of.”
Earlier this year, Silva penned a 12-month extension to keep him at Stamford Bridge until the end of the 2023/24 season.

The South American joined Chelsea on a free transfer in 2020 and has gone on to play 117 times for the club.

Mason Greenwood case means all Premier League clubs ‘need to do more to stop “terrifying” domestic abuse’, expert says

THE Premier League should do more to fight domestic violence in light of Mason Greenwood’s suspension, Women’s Aid has said. The 21-year-old striker has not played for Manchester United since he was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault in January 2022.

All charges against him were dropped in February this year, but he remains the subject of an internal process being conducted by United.
While there has been speculation about whether he will ever play for the club again, he is still under contract until 2025.
Now Women’s Aid has argued all clubs should “work with specialists” to understand “the dynamics of domestic abuse”.
The charity also called on Premier League clubs to “develop” domestic abuse policies and procedures.
    Read more Sport News
A Women’s Aid spokesperson: “Regardless of the outcome in this case, it shows why it is essential that all football clubs have domestic abuse policies and clear safeguarding processes in place.
“Domestic abuse and rape are terrifyingly prevalent across society, many women who are abused will never see the perpetrator convicted, and clubs need to work with specialists in domestic abuse – like us at Women’s Aid – to ensure there is full understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse within the club, and develop relevant policies and procedures for a range of different potential situations.”
The Red Devils said in February that it would conduct its own process before determining next steps.
There has been no further official communication over Greenwood’s position, other than his inclusion on the retained players list, which was published on the club’s website on Friday.

The case against him was discontinued because of a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light.
It meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction, the Crown Prosecution Service said in February, adding that it had a duty to keep cases under continuous review.
It comes as The Sun revealed manager Erik ten Hag is willing to bring Greenwood back into his squad.
And most of his team-mates at Old Trafford would welcome him back into the dressing room if the club agrees.
Greenwood, who hit 36 goals in 130 games for United, still has two years left on his £75,000-a-week contract. More

Man Utd offered Benfica star Goncalo Ramos as cheaper Harry Kane alternative to solve striker dilemma

MANCHESTER UNITED are being offered the chance to land £80million-rated Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos.SunSport also understands that Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes is hopeful Tottenham can create a bidding war – should Harry Kane depart this summer.

United boss Erik ten Hag is on the lookout for more firepower next season to give Marcus Rashford – who scored a total of 30 goals last year – some competition.
The Red Devil’s chances of landing Kane, 30, from Spurs are dead in the water, with chairman Daniel Levy unwilling to do business for less than £100m.
A client of Mendes, 21-year-old Ramos could fit the bill at Old Trafford instead, having netted 25 times for club and country this term.
Ramos also made his name at the Qatar World Cup for Portugal, bagging a hat-trick against Switzerland in the Last 16 having replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up.

However, Benfica will not accept anything less than £80m – following on from selling Darwin Nunez to Liverpool last summer for £85m.
Mendes is working hard to get his player a Premier League switch, with United the priority, but the likes of Newcastle, West Ham, Aston Villa and Tottenham have also been approached.
Spurs could be in the market for a striker should Kane depart, yet this appears unlikely right now – with Real Madrid the only potential destination.
Real’s £115m splash-out on England starlet Jude Bellingham will limit their spending power for the rest of this window, thus being priced out of a move for the England captain.

New Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will be desperate for Kane to stay and continue his successful partnership with Son Heung-min, with Richarlison also in the ranks up top.
The star striker amassed a total of 32 goals and five assists in 49 appearances last season.
If the forward doesn’t pen a new contract and stays put at Tottenham then he will be free to sign with an overseas club for free in January. More
