United are long-term admirers of the 24-year-old and view him as an alternative to Tottenham skipper Harry Kane.
But they could be forced to turn their attention elsewhere as fresh talks over a bumper new deal for Osimhen, who is said to earn around £95,000-a-week at the moment, are reportedly underway.
Sky Italia claim Osimhen’s agent recently discussed a new deal with Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis – who doesn’t want to sell the striker on the cheap.
Osimhen has two years left on his current contract at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

But he recently suggested he could extend his stay in Naples, telling TG5: “‘I’m at a great club and my career is growing constantly.
“I am already at one of the biggest clubs and I could not ask for more. Forza Napoli always!”
United’s potential pursuit of Oshimen could, however, be aided by his desire to play in England’s top flight.
He said: “I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world (Serie A) is an amazing feeling for me.

And following his success, the Manchester Evening News report the club may reward Garnacho with the coveted No.7 shirt.
The number has not been worn at United since Ronaldo’s unceremonious departure in November.
Ronaldo, 38, had his contract ripped up before sealing a move to Al-Nassr, making him the highest paid sportsman ever in the process.
Garnacho, 18, currently wears the No.49 shirt.

He penned a new five-year deal at United in April.
Should he adopt the shirt of his footballing hero, he will become the first teenage recipient of the shirt since Ronaldo himself in 2003.
However, to many United fans, the No.7 shirt is seen as “cursed”.
Big names and promising stars alike have taken on the weight of the shirt – worn by greats such as George Best, Eric Cantona, Bryan Robson and David Beckham – and failed to make their mark.

The likes of Alexis Sanchez, Angel Di Maria, Michael Owen and Memphis Depay come to mind in recent times.
Ronaldo scored 24 goals in his first season upon his return to the club but could not stop United slipping to their worst-ever Premier League season.
The start of his second year saw his form drop off dramatically, netting just three times for United before he was whisked away to Saudi Arabia.
He has since been joined in the Middle East by Karim Benzema and Ruben Neves, with even more big stars such as Bernardo Silva reportedly set to follow. More

And it is understood the Red Devils boss is open to offers for the Swedish forward.
Now the Daily Mail report Borussia Dortmund are considering going in with a bid.
The Bundesliga giants are keen to reinvest some of the £115million they received from Real Madrid for Jude Bellingham.
But it could only take £10m to convince United to sell their academy graduate, who joined the club aged 12.

Elanga’s Sweden team-mate Emil Forsberg wanted him to sign for RB Leipzig.
The United ace was also linked with West Ham alongside Harry Maguire and £40m as part of a possible deal to try and land Declan Rice.
However, now it looks as though Dortmund are in pole position.
Boss Edin Terzic is keen to bolster his attack and it appears Elanga could be targeted.

That is despite the winger’s disappointing campaign last term.
He managed 26 appearances in all competitions – including just seven starts – and failed to register a single goal for the Red Devils.
Elanga did manage two assists but will no doubt feel he could have had a better return.
He remains part of the international set-up for Sweden, though, and scored against New Zealand in the end-of-season fixtures before coming off the bench again as a late sub against Austria.
But speaking in March, Elanga remained positive about his situation at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag – who prefers Antony on the right wing.
Elanga told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet: “It is frustrating. You want to play, it’s important. But whether you play or not, it’s up to the coach not me.
“I know what he wants me to do and I just keep training hard. When the opportunity comes, I just have to be ready to take it.
“We have a lot of conversations, not only about [the gametime] but also what is happening around. That’s the good thing, we talk a lot and they help me a lot.” More
