Arsenal have been “advancing” in their talks to sign Lavia, despite the risk any deal could be scuppered by Manchester City.
Lavia’s former club have a £40million buy-back clause as part of the deal which saw him leave for Southampton last summer.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal now face competition from Liverpool as well.
The Reds have enquired about signing Lavia and are now firmly in the race for his signature.

Although Arsenal have been working on a deal for over two weeks, Romano adds that neither club has made an official bid yet.
Both United and Chelsea are monitoring the situation but are not currently in talks to sign Lavia.

Chelsea previously failed with a £50million bid for the Belgian just weeks after his move to St. Mary’s following an impressive start to the season.
Lavia, who can also play in central defence, made 35 appearances across all competitions last term after making his £10.5million switch.

He also scored once in the league as the Saints were relegated from the Premier League.
The 19-year-old’s performances were a rare bright spark for the South Coast side, though, and have seen him linked with several top clubs this summer.
Lavia’s form at club level also saw him make his senior international debut for Belgium in March. More

Now they are embarking on a new chapter after Postecoglou, 57, succeeded Antonio Conte as the Lilywhites’ permanent boss.
Lucas Moura has already left after his contract expired.
And he could be joined by as many as ten other unwanted players in Postecoglou’s squad.

Midfielder Harry Winks is another expected to be released as his contract runs out at the end of the month.
And youngster Alfie Devine is in line to be farmed out on loan in search of more game time.
Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele, who were on loan at Villarreal and Napoli last season, will almost certainly be shown the exit door.
Ivan Perisic’s time could also be up, just one year after being signed by Conte.

And centre-back Eric Dier is the 10th potential departure before the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
However, it is more likely Dier, 29, will leave when his contract expires in 2024.
Outside of Postecoglou’s list of expected departures, Harry Kane has been linked with Real Madrid and Manchester United – but looks set to stay as he enters the final 12 months of his deal.
Son Heung-min was attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, but it is unlikely he will leave this summer.

And Spurs are being linked with several arrivals.
They include James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Guglielmo Vicario, Alex Scott and Jadon Sancho.

However, Arsenal have already had two bids rejected by West Ham United and are now being rivalled for his signature by Manchester City.

As a result, Arteta and Arsenal have started looking at alternative targets in the event they miss out on Rice.

L’Equipe report that Fofana has been identified as a potential player of interest.

Man Utd fans say Onana is ‘better than Weghorst’ as keeper transfer target burns defender and scores goal in training

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have labelled keeper target Andre Onana “better than Wout Weghorst” after he scored a brilliant goal in training. The Inter Milan shot-stopper, 27, is being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.
Andre Onana sprinted through to score during training
It was reported over the weekend that the Red Devils are set to seal a £43million deal for the Cameroon international.
He is set to replace David de Gea in between the sticks as the Spaniard’s contract is up and he is not expected to remain Erik ten Hag’s No1.
But Man Utd fans were shown on Sunday that Onana is more than just a keeper.
He shared a training video on Instagram which saw him turn and outpace a defender, before he slotted the ball neatly into the far corner.

Alongside the clip, he added the caption: “Mamma Miaa. Denzel Dumfries [this] is the last time I teach you how to score.”
And United supporters were thoroughly impressed by Onana’s finishing skills as they insisted he would be an improvement on Weghorst up front.
The Dutchman, 30, netted just twice in 31 games for Ten Hag’s men after arriving on loan from Burnley in the January window.
Reacting to Onana’s video, one United fan said: “Our new keeper is a better finisher than Weghorst 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.”

Another added: “Better striker than ice cold Martial and pressing monster Weghorst.”
A third replied: “Wout Weghorst doesn’t bag that goal I promise you.”
And a fourth responded: “We’ve found David de Gea and Weghorst’s replacements in one person with less budget.”
Onana appears to be the frontrunner to succeed De Gea.
But he is not the only target United are being linked with as Everton’s Jordan Pickford is also being mooted as a potential option.
