However, he has not held a managerial position for 12 years and appears to have turned his back on coaching.
Former team-mate Dwight Yorke believes that this is because Keane is “his own problem”.
Yorke played alongside the Irishman at Old Trafford and played under him at Sunderland.
Asked what it was like to play under Keane, he told AceOdds: “It was great.

“I saw him as a potential manager [while playing alongside him at Manchester United], you know, just because of his great leadership and the respect that he gains within the dressing room, which is what you require to be a manager.
“I’ve said it time and time again, Roy Keane has all the potential to be a great manager and he should have been. But Roy Keane is his own problem, really.
“He’s his own problem, saying it as it is, you know, if he was a little bit more guided and a little bit more cuter in some of his approach, I think he would be the current manager of Man United today.
“Roy Keane lives and dies by the way he sees things and that’s fine. And when it goes your way it’s great.

“But I loved playing under Keano, loved my time being there [at Sunderland]. Getting to see the transition from him. I learned a lot. What to be like and what not to be like.”
Yorke ended his playing career in 2009 following three years with Sunderland.
During that time he scored six goals in 58 appearances under Keane between 2006 and 2008.

He then secured Premier League survival the following year, only to be sacked in December 2008.
A spell as Ipswich Town boss followed but he has now been out of management for 12 years.
In that time, he has had stints as an assistant with the Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest

The Italian midfielder has agreed terms on a six-year deal with the Magpies, with the signing said to be imminent.
That is despite the 23-year-old reportedly breaking down in tears when he was told by Milan that they were selling him.
Milan’s hunt for a replacement is already underway, with the club interested in signing Sofyan Amrabat.
Tuttomercato report, via Football Italia, Milan expect Amrabat to leave Fiorentina this summer and are making movements regarding a deal.

Although no offers have been tabled for the Moroccan so far, an official approach from Stefano Pioli’s side could come within days.
Fiorentina are understood to value Amrabat at £26million this summer as he enters the final year of his contract.
His performance’s at last year’s World Cup have caused an increased interest in his services.
Morocco’s shock run to the semi-finals even prompted Barcelona to make an approach for Amrabat in January.

The move fell through, though, as Barca could only offer a loan with an option to buy.
Atletico Madrid have also been linked with a move this summer, along with several Premier League clubs, including United.
The Red Devils’ interest has been confirmed by Amrabat’s brother Nordin, who has claimed United made a loan approach with an option to buy in January.

Amrabat is expected to move clubs this summer, having been given permission to leave the Morocco squad ahead of schedule earlier this month to help him find a new team.
Having played in the friendly match against Cape Verde, Amrabat was absent from the subsequent Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with South Africa.
Manager Walid Regragui later confirmed this was as “he’ll be signing for a new club soon”. More

Roy Hodgson, 75, to stay on as Crystal Palace manager next season after winning over fans and players

ROY HODGSON will STAY on as Crystal Palace manager next season. The 75-year-old returned to the Eagles in March after Patrick Vieira was sacked following a dismal run of form.

It was thought that Hodgson would depart in the summer despite a successful two-month stint at the end of the campaign.
But now Sky Sports are reporting he has reached a “verbal agreement” with Palace to remain at Selhurst Park for one more year.
It comes after SunSport exclusively revealed last month that Hodgson was closing in on a deal to stay on.
Club bosses are said to have considered longer term options – with Graham Potter and Paulo Fonseca both thought to be in the frame.

But they felt the ex-England head coach’s “popularity with the players” along with his results were “key” to him being offered the job next season.
And contracts are expected to be signed “shortly” as Hodgson prepares to extend his stay in West London.
Prior to Hodgson’s second spell, Palace had not won in 13 matches in all competitions.
After returning to the club, Hodgson picked up 18 points from Palace’s final 10 games of the season – a run which included five victories, three draws and just two defeats.

He is the oldest ever Premier League manager and will turn 76 three days before his side’s opening game of the season away at newly-promoted Sheffield United.
When asked at the end of last season whether he will stay on as Palace boss, he said: “I don’t know. I’ll wait and see if ever that moment comes along and then I’ll make a decision.
“I’m not prepared to say now that’s what I want, or that’s not what I don’t want, because there is no mileage in that for me at all.
“I have had some experiences in the past where I have been burnt with people trying to get me to draw a line under something. But my point is that I don’t want to draw lines.”
It came after he had initially left the club in 2021 following four years at the helm.
Many expected him to retire, but he went on to coach Watford and has now returned for another turn as Palace boss.
But Hodgson could lose star forward Wilfried Zaha shortly after agreeing a new deal.
The Ivory Coast international, 30, who is out of contract at the end of the month, is being linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Lazio have also approached him, although they did so at an inopportune time as he had already jetted off on his stag do. More

Rooney, who played with Sigurdsson for one season at Everton from 2017, is currently in charge at DC United.
Iceland international Sigurdsson, 33, left Everton last June when his contract expired and has not played since.

But they beat FC Cincinnati 3-0 on Sunday and are currently ninth in the 15-team Eastern Conference, with David Beckham’s Inter Miami bottom.

Inside tragic downfall of ex-Premier League star who went from millions to Universal Credit & court rows

AN EX-PREMIER League star has gone from earning millions to claiming benefits and fighting court battles.Marcus Bent, 45, enjoyed a stellar career with spells at Everton, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Wolves and represented England at U21 level.

The London-born striker notched more than 100 goals across 14 different clubs, before falling out of the professional game in 2012.
He attempted to make a comeback with non-league sides Wick, based in Sussex, and Suffolk-based Cornard United, but his life deteriorated as he moved away from full-time football.
Last week, Bent fought off bankruptcy trustees who tried for four years to seize a London property.
London’s specialist Insolvency and Companies Court heard he owned the house and should hand it over to help pay off debts.
    More in news
But Bent said the property belonged to his 19-year-old daughter after he purchased it for her in 2006 and intended for it to be held in a trust.
Judge Clive Jones ruled in his favour, but told the court Bent’s estimated debt following bankruptcy proceedings brought by tax officials was “a couple of million”.
It is a fall from grace from the £20,000 a week he earned at the height of his football career, amassing £10m in total.
Bent turned to alcohol and drugs following his retirement, being hit with a conviction for drink driving and a suspended sentence when he called police to his home while under the influence of cocaine.
    Most read in Football
Struggling with managing his finances, Bent was also forced to claim Universal Credit benefits.
The revelation emerged as he was banned from the road after admitting drink driving in February last year.
Bent was caught behind the wheel while nearly four times the limit while driving his grey BMW X5 three-litre diesel on the A3 at Tibbet’s Corner in south-west London.
He was disqualified from driving for 32 months following a hearing at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court.
A probation officer blamed his split from his ex-girlfriend, mental health issues and bankruptcy.
Bent’s lawyer Scott Ewing also told the court the ex-footballer was “remorseful” while outlining his financial woes.
Mr Ewing told the court: “He is not working at the moment, but does some football match commentary and recently was on Universal Credit.

“He has no income, save for a £20,000 return on an investment, and says he had depression that led to drug and alcohol issues in the past.”
The lawyer also described how football had been a “comfort blanket” for Bent, who struggled with going from a “high-profile, successful career to nothing”.
He added: “Unfortunately sycophants and leeches provided unregulated investment advice.
“He has now hit rock bottom, from where he’s looking up and there’s only one direction to go and that’s to give advice to others so they don’t fall into the same traps.
“It is a pity it has taken something like this for Mr Bent to get the assistance he needs.”
The troubled former footballer received a suspended prison sentence after a conviction for possession of cocaine and affray following an incident in which he was Tasered by police at his home in Esher, Surrey, in September 2015.
Bent called police from his bathroom fearing for his left shortly after 9.30pm.
He believed someone was inside his apartment and three officers arrived 16 minutes later.
A battering ram was used to break down the door, but officers when then faced with a topless Bent holding a meat cleaver and knife in either hand.
Bent told The Athletic: “I was paranoid. I was hallucinating. I felt there were people in my house. I remember thinking the door handle was moving.
“I called the police and I picked up something to defend myself. When the police came, I went to the door with these knives.
“If I think back, obviously I should have put the knives down but I wasn’t in a good way. So, of course, they were terrified — someone who’s on drugs, someone who’s paranoid, with two knives.
“They tasered me and I think you know the rest. But I remember going into the police station and actually feeling secure and safe. ‘I’m locked up now. No one can get me’.
“That’s how my mind was at that time. Then, the next morning, there was talk of me being charged with attempted murder. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“At no point was I ever going to take someone’s life. I called them because I was hallucinating, paranoid, terrified.”
Bent was given a 12-month suspended prison sentence for admitting affray and possession of cocaine in February 2016.
He found himself back in trouble with police when he was arrested at Chessington World of Adventures in June later the same year and charged with cocaine possession.
Bent was fined £385 with £85 costs.
But he was successful in court last week when the Insolvency and Companies Court found the London property “fell outside the bankruptcy estate” and that trustees administering the estate, had “no interest” in it.
