“From day one, I felt a special relationship with donkeys. It’s a very calm animal: maybe I see myself in them because I’m calm too.
“They chill all day, don’t do much, just want to live their life. I loved them always.
“When I lost, I would go to the sanctuary. You look at the animals, see something human in them. It was a kind of recovery, a place I felt peace.”

United officials are eager to keep him at Old Trafford, but only if he agrees to take a huge pay cut.
They have been in talks with the 32-year-old for months, but a breakthrough was finally made in recent weeks… before club chiefs had a change of heart.

The Spaniard accepted a drastic reduction on his current £375,000-a-week salary, but United officials did not sign the contract.

Returning Spurs star Rodon faces a crunch summer under Ange Postecoglou after disappointing loan

JOE RODON faces a crunch summer at Tottenham but Wales want a say in the next step of his career path. The Spurs defender, 25, will return to Hotspur Way for pre-season under new boss Ange Postecoglou on the back of a poor season-long loan spell with Rennes in Ligue 1.

Rodon remains a regular for Wales but boss Robert Page would like a say in his future plansCredit: Getty
Rodon made 21 appearances for the French club – but only seven of those came after last November’s World Cup.
Rennes did not take up the option of signing the ex-Swansea centre-back in a £18million permanent deal.
And that has left his club future uncertain as ex-Celtic chief Postecoglou takes over in North London.
Rodon has been a mainstay for Wales and the 37-cap star performed well against Croatia and Latvia in March despite his club woes.

But the defender looked off the pace in an error-strewn display in this month’s 4-2 Euro 2024 qualifying humiliation at home to Armenia as a lack of regular football caught up with him.
Rodon produced a better display in the 2-0 loss in Turkey as Wales played with ten men for 59 minutes following Joe Morrell’s red card.
Now a decision needs to be made in the coming weeks on his club home for next season.
Wales boss Robert Page said: “He will want to play games because I know him as a character. He’ll want to play week in, week out.

“That’s up to the club now. I’d imagine he will do a pre-season there and then they will make a decision on what’s best for him next year.
“If we can have a little bit of input in that then great.”
Rodon joined Spurs in an initial £11million deal, rising to £15million, from Swansea in October 2020. More

Ampadu has experienced the drop in three successive club seasons.
His first relegation came on loan at Sheffield United in the Premier League before the same fate happened at Venezia and Spezia in Serie A.
The 44-cap Welshman was also part of the side which were relegated from League A of the Nations League last September.
Chelsea have set a £12million asking price on in-demand Ampadu, who has also played for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

On top of that, he has represented his country at both a Euros and World Cup finals in an already colourful career.
Ampadu, who can play at centre-back or central midfield, has one more year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge but there is interest from Prem clubs, Italy and Spain.
Wales manager Robert Page said: “Of course, the relegations will have hurt him personally.
“Ultimately, it will make him a better person and player.

“This is about Ethan’s development. I have nothing but respect for him for the challenges that he has faced over the last couple of years.
“He has chosen to experience different leagues in world football. I’ve nothing but respect for him for that.”
Ampadu, who turns 23 in September, joined Chelsea from Exeter in a £2.5million deal in 2017.
But he has only made 12 first-team appearances for the Blues with his last outing coming against Malmo in the Europa League back in February 2019 before his loan spells away from the club.
Ampadu is the son of ex-Arsenal, Swansea and Exeter midfielder Kwame, who is now assistant manager at Columbus Crew in the MLS. More

His exit from Stamford Bridge comes just a year after he was signed from Napoli for £30million.

Following his move, the 32-year-old fired a parting shot at Chelsea in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

“I had no guarantees to get regular playing time [at Chelsea],” he explained. “I was always professional but I don’t like to sit on the bench doing nothing.
“I prefer a place where I am wanted and at the centre of the project and can be an example for young players. The Premier League is fantastic and there are great players.
“They [Chelsea] expected the Koulibaly of Napoli, but I think my season was not so bad. I needed time and in one year I couldn’t prove what I wanted because of the coach’s and club’s choices.
“I am happy with what I learned about my limits, my family and my kids. My time had come and I had to make a decision.
