Souness, 70, would return to Ibrox in some capacity but only if the post was worthwhile and meaningful.
Gers boss Michael Beale is hands-on in the transfer market and doing much of the work that former director of football Ross Wilson did.
Souness is based in Dorset but would go back to Glasgow on a regular basis for his boyhood club if the job made a difference.
The Scot revealed he wanted to stay on with Sky Sports longer.

He fought back tears during his final appearance on Sky back in April after 15 years on the platform.
Speaking to The Guardian, Souness was asked whether it was he or Sky’s decision to part ways, to which he said: “Mutual. I mean, I was keen to stay another year.
“They thought it would be a good idea that we called it a day, gave their reasons and I accepted that and have zero complaints about Sky.
“I worked for them maybe 15 years solid – but it’s more like 20 years.

“They’ve been great for me, gave me the weekends to look forward to, the buzz of live football.”
Souness had teased a new job when asked if he will miss Sky.
He said: “Yes. But I’m talking to other people and we’ll go again. There’s life in the old dog yet.”

Man City mull stunning £90m Frenkie de Jong transfer that would see Treble winners deliver another body blow to Man Utd

PEP GUARDIOLA is mulling over a move for Frenkie de Jong — after Manchester City’s boss walked away from a Declan Rice bid.But Barcelona will want up to the £90million that Guardiola was prepared to pay in his attempts to sign West Ham ace Rice.

The City chief is keen to bring in a new midfielder after Ilkay Gundogan turned down a new deal and opted for a move to the Nou Camp instead.
Pep ended his interest in Rice when the fee went higher than he was prepared to pay, leaving the way clear for Arsenal.
Guardiola tried to sign De Jong in 2019, before the Dutchman was swayed by the huge contract at Barca – and he remains a fan.
He was a major Manchester transfer target a year ago, when his old Ajax boss Erik ten Hag tried to make him one of his first Man Utd signings.

But the 26-year-old Dutch star opted to stay in Barcelona and is still in no rush to leave Spain.
However, he is aware Nou Camp executives are open to a sale in a bid to improve the club’s desperate finances.
De Jong earns £400,000 a week after tax, has three years left on his agreement and retains the backing of coach Xavi.
But Barca would like his wages off the books and know that City have cash for a top-class midfielder after the race for Rice.

Speaking in February about last summer’s transfer saga involving De Jong, Xavi said: “He was very clear with me. He wanted to stay with us and there was no doubt.
“He is our player and I am very happy and satisfied with his performance and leadership.
“He is in a great moment, like the whole team.
“I think he is having a good time on the field, which is the most important thing.”

Fulham line up £20m Yunus Musah transfer as they look to beat AC Milan to World Cup and ex-England U18 star

FULHAM are bidding to land United States midfield dynamo Yunus Musah from Valencia in a £20million deal.Cottagers boss Marco Silva has money to spend and hard-running Musah is top of his wish-list — with the Spanish side willing to sell.

AC Milan are looking into a deal with the 20-year-old but insiders have revealed Fulham are “all over” the transfer and hope to pull off a coup.
New York-born Musah has 24 caps plus European experience, so he is ideal for Fulham as they look to build on a good campaign.
Musah will be sold to the highest bidder and, despite Milan trying hard to get him, they have yet to reach the asking price.
The lure of Serie A is big for the player and the possibility of also having fellow American Christian Pulisic joining him there, too.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
But Fulham think that the chance to come to the Premier League and London is even more attractive.
Musah already knows English football well, having represented the Three Lions at every level up to U18 before opting for the Stars and Stripes before the World Cup.
Fulham’s need may increase if a huge bid comes in for star man Joao Palhinha and they are left with a hole to fill.
The Cottagers also plan to sign up another US international, with a new contract in the pipeline for 25-year-old left-back Antonee Robinson.

Greenwood is still suspended as United chiefs investigate his conduct following his January 2022 arrest to “determine the next steps”.
Greenwood, 21, was charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.
But police confirmed in February that Greenwood “no longer faces criminal proceedings” as the Crown Prosecution Service had dropped all charges.
The England forward believes a fresh start at United is unlikely, despite manager Erik ten Hag and several team-mates offering him support.

Mourinho has contacted the player to offer him a second chance, if United decide to send him on loan or cancel his deal.
A source said: “Jose rang Mason’s dad and also spoke with Mason. He told him the best way out of his current situation is to start playing football — and that eventually all the hassle will fade away.
“Mason was pleased that he got in touch and it has lifted his spirits.
“He wants to get back playing and is just waiting for United to tell him what the future holds.”

Other Italian clubs Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan have also been linked with the player.
But Mourinho has a strong bond with Greenwood after giving him a chance as Red Devils boss.
In 2018, Mourinho picked Greenwood as a 16-year-old to go on their pre-season tour of the US.
Ex-United ace Nicky Butt revealed Mourinho identified Greenwood as a future first-team star — at 15.
Butt, who worked at United when Mourinho was boss from 2016 to 2018, said: “I was his academy boss so I wondered what it would be like.
“The reality was that he was approachable and friendly. He was single-minded and selfish — and that’s what the best managers are.
“He asked, ‘Who is this kid Greenwood?’ when Mason was 15. He said, ‘Bring him to train with us’, and I said, ‘We can’t, because he’s at school and there are rules’.”
Former Red Devils defender Chris Smalling — who played with Greenwood — left Old Trafford for Roma on loan in 2019.

Irons boss David Moyes is keen on the Belgium ace, 21,  but the player would prefer a Champions League club if he moves.
Meanwhile, West Ham hope to agree payment terms with Arsenal for the £105m transfer of Declan Rice by Monday, SunSport can reveal.
The Gunners have agreed a deal in principle to sign England star Rice, 24, for a record fee between two British clubs – £100m plus £5m add-ons.

Hammers chiefs want it all by the start of 2025 – whereas Arsenal would prefer financially to stagger a section of it across a longer period.

These minor payment issues have never been seen as derailing, but West Ham have been digging their heels in to get the deal they want.

The winger is still looking for a way out of Stamford Bridge following a successful World Cup campaign in Qatar that saw Morocco becoming the first ever African country making it to the semi-finals.
The 30-year-old had been talking with Al-Nassr and looked close to joining Cristiano Ronaldo in a £17million deal.
However, the move appears to have fallen through after the Morocco international didn’t pass his medical.
According to sports broadcaster Ben Jacobs, Ziyech flew to Madrid for further checks.

The tests showed there are “red flags” in the ex-Ajax star’s hip and knee.
Al-Nassr have thus modified their offer and are now offering the Moroccan a new contract with his basic wage reduced by a whopping 40 per cent.
Ziyech was not keen to accept that proposal.
Thus, a move to the Saudi Pro League appears to be “off” for the time being.
