He has also become a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squads since being selected for the World Cup.
But his rise has added some annoying elements to his life – including having to change his phone number due to pestering fans.
Wilson was discussing the issue on Jill Scott’s Coffee Club alongside England and Newcastle team-mate Kieran Trippier.
He told ex-Lioness Scott: “I actually changed my number – I’m serious.

“I had so many people coming out of the woodwork and I thought ‘How have you even got my number? I’ve not spoke to you for five years, now you’re asking for tickets for the game’.
“I had fans somehow calling me as well, so it was like ‘I have to change this number’. Fans trying to FaceTime me and stuff.”
When Scott then pressed Wilson about how fans would have obtained his number, he continued: “It must be.. You know when you have a parcel and you get stuff delivered to the club – your Amazons and things like that – you have to put your number on there sometimes don’t you.
“And the delivery people, they actually write messages on my box like ‘Great goal at the weekend’ or like ‘Sunderland til I die’.

Sunderland-born Scott, 36, then hilariously joked: “It’s me delivering your parcels. Now I’ve retired, I had to get a new job.”
Meanwhile, Wilson, who has bagged two goals in eight appearances for his country, is preparing to play in the Champions League for the first time in his career.
Eddie Howe’s men finished fourth in the Premier League last season, qualifying for Europe’s premier competition for the first time since 2003.
And they have already bolstered their squad after agreeing a deal for AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali.
Newcastle’s first league game of the campaign comes at home to Aston Villa on August 12. More

Kyogo opens up on Celtic transfer exit as striker admits ‘no one knows the future’

Kyogo has spoken out about the transfer interest coming his way though and insists he hopes to continue playing with the Scottish champions for years to come.
But the Japanese international admits “no one knows the future” amid all the ongoing speculation.
The 28-year-old also responded to the various Scottish Premiership critics too.
Japan head coach Hajime Moriyasu blamed the standard of the Scottish top flight as his reason for not calling the striker and his fellow Hoops team-mates for international duty.

Daizen Maeda has been a regular in the side and starred at the World Cup but others have missed out in recent selections.
Kyogo scored on his return to the team last month though after being called up for their double header against El Salvador and Peru.
Writing for Japanese outlet Sponichi, the forward said: “As I keep scoring goals and Celtic continues to win.
“I’ve heard that news was released in Japan that the level of Scottish Premiership is recognised as ‘not high’. Certainly, top teams play very good football, but Celtic also had a lot of tough games.

“It’s natural for various people to have various opinions. But on the contrary, it means that people are paying attention to my play and Celtic, so I think it positively.
“I actually have valuable experiences at Celtic, and Celtic is the club with great history.
“There are many players who want to play here for as long as possible, including me.
“But no one knows the future. Players may be injured or are transferred. And some players may be retiring.
“I never know about my future, so I just want to enjoy every moment at Celtic.
“But I still have room for development. I want to be a player who can score more goals.
“I will continue to work hard next season so that I can become a more powerful player.”

Some, such as Eric Bailly and Alex Telles, may not be around for long after they were loaned out to Marseille and Sevilla respectively last season.
The Red Devils could look to cash in on the pair who are surplus to requirements, though finding willing suitors could prove tricky.
There are also several young players who could depart on loan once again – Shola Shoretire and Charlie McNeill both joined EFL clubs on a temporary basis last season.
But Amad Diallo, who had a successful loan at Sunderland last season, will be welcomed back into the first-team set-up, according to Manchester Evening News.

He is set to be given an opportunity to impress during pre-season and will be included on the tour of the US.
United could have a vacancy on the right wing, with Ten Hag seeking an left-footed right winger to act as Antony’s understudy.
Meanwhile Hannibal Mejbri and Alvaro Fernandez will return to the squad following stints at Birmingham and Preston.
Fernandez is reportedly attracting transfer interest from Borussia Dortmund however so could make a move this summer.

New arrival Mason Mount is also on the verge of finalising his switch to Old Trafford so should link up with his new team-mates at some point next week.
Lisandro Martinez and Dean Henderson, who also spent last season out on loan, will also be welcomed back from injury.
Henderson is expected to be fit for the start of the season despite being sidelined since January with a thigh strain that required surgery.
The goalkeeper has still not met Ten Hag in person and could return to Nottingham Forest in a £30million deal. More

Greenwood is still on the books at United, despite being suspended.
The club is yet to make a decision on his future and is still to complete an internal investigation.
It is unlikely the Red Devils will try to sell him during the current transfer window.

United are said to have had contact with Italian teams Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan about a move.
He has also reportedly been offered a football lifeline by his former boss Jose Mourinho at Roma.
Reds boss Erik ten Hag and most first team players are said to be willing to give Greenwood another chance.
But executives would be afraid of the commercial implications.
