Tottenham fans slam club as ‘disgraceful’ after undertaking massive hike in ticket prices ‘on the sly’

TOTTENHAM fans have slammed their club as “disgraceful” after they upped ticket prices for the 2023-24 season. In many parts of the ground prices have risen by as much as £13 for each match.
Tottenham fans will have to pay a fortune to attend matches next seasonCredit: Alamy
The cheapest ticket for a Category A fixture will now cost £65 – and this price will only be available in two blocks of the stadium.
Some seats will even cost as much as £103 for a single game.
Spurs chiefs have seen fit to raise ticket prices despite fans having to endure the cost of living crisis in Britain.
The North Londoners are also coming off their lowest Premier League finish in 14 years.

After lobbying by the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST), Spurs froze their season ticket prices for the 2023-24 season, having reportedly been strongly considering a hike.
They are now facing a huge backlash for their decision to raise matchday prices.
Many fans have slammed their club on social media, with one writing: “Absolute disgrace, and sliding Newcastle in as a CAT A opponent too…”
A second tweeted: “We really need to know the justification for this. Worst finish in years, worst football I can remember and a vile atmosphere for most of last season. Also, Newcastle have a good season and are now Cat A?”

Another pointed out: “£88 now to sit in my old seat.
“Completely priced out now, except for the FA Cup concession ticketing and/or pre-season friendlies. Shameful from@SpursOfficial.”
A further supporter opined: “Just a terrible misstep from the club. Really is all about profit and many times it feels when they claim to be adding more fan input it’s just a front.
“As a supporter from afar it doesn’t affect me as much as supporters from close, but it hurts to know some will miss out.”
Following the price hike, THST released a statement, reading: “Our ticketing team was informed of the plans to increase match day pricing on Friday morning.
“The Club is aware THST lobbied for a price freeze on all match day pricing and, having been informed this morning, we along with the wider fanbase have been told rather than consulted.
“This must change if dialogue is to happen and supporter input is genuinely desired.
Our match tickets are already amongst the most expensive in the Premier League and fans should not have to dig further into their pocketsTottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust
“The Club knows this is something THST cannot support and we feel an increase of this magnitude is excessive.
“Our match tickets are already amongst the most expensive in the Premier League and fans should not have to dig further into their pockets when they are already seeing their living standards squeezed by the cost-of-living crisis.
“We were also made aware of plans to move Newcastle United from a Category B to Category A game and Nottingham Forest from Category C to B. The split was previously five Category A games, nine Category B and five Category C. From next season it will now be six Category A games, nine Category B games and four Category C.
“We will now be looking closer at the breakdown of increases across all price points and will then calculate the additional income this will generate for the Club.

“Whilst we recognise the increased operational costs and lack of European revenue for this coming season, we believe there are other ways the Club can generate this lost revenue.
“This burden should never be pushed on to match-going supporters.”

But the Milan club are struggling financially and that has opened the door for other clubs to swoop in.
Chelsea are hoping to get the striker off their books this summer and had been hopeful of a deal with Saudi side Al-Hilal.
But Juventus have now entered the race according to Sky Sports.
The outlet report that Juve have held talks with Chelsea’s representatives over signing the Belgian international.

The striker is not part of new manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plans despite the club struggling for reliable strikers – and it is understood they will be in the market for a new forward this summer.
Lukaku struggled to make a positive impression during the first half of last season at Inter after struggling with injury.
The forward returned 10 goals and six assists in the Serie A in 25 appearances – despite many of these appearances coming from the bench.
It’s been a busy summer for departures at Chelsea after kicking things off by sending Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy packing to Saudi Arabia.

They have since focused on shifting players to domestic teams with Kai Havertz and Mason Mount joining Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.
Christian Pulisic is expected to follow Ruben Loftus-Cheek in joining AC Milan with the two clubs agreeing a £19million deal according to The Athletic.
Meanwhile Pochettino was asked about how his move to Chelsea will effect his relationship with Spurs fans during his first press conference as Chelsea manager yesterday.
He said: “I don’t believe that the fans will change but what can they do? Nothing.
“For me it is about being focused on trying to do my job here. What can I say or do if that happens [Spurs fans hating him] It’s up to them to keep or not the feelings they were feeling in the past.” More

He finished the season with 14 goals in his 37 appearances but was hampered with injuries.
And incoming Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino does not look like he will hand the Belgian a Stamford Bridge lifeline.
Initially, Inter were looking to negotiate another loan deal with an obligation to buy.
But Chelsea want to sell the striker, and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italians are preparing an offer of £25.6m.

Lukaku joined Chelsea at 17 from Anderlecht but after three years and two loan moves he joined Everton.
After spells with Manchester United and Inter, the forward established himself as a prolific scorer in Serie A.
It earned him a move back to London but midway through the season Lukaku revealed he was unsettled in the English capital.
That proved the beginning of the end for him and five months later he was back in Milan.

Hahnemann spent 13 years in England after joining Fulham in 1999 and ended his career with the Seattle Sounders in 2014.
He has since kept busy with a range of hobbies and business, including his own bar.

Explaining how he got his pilot’s licence, he told the Shropshire Star in 2022: “I always wanted to fly but what pushed me again was that one of my buddies lives on Vancouver Island which is an eight or nine-hour drive away.
“When I only had a pre-season of two weeks, we decided to charter a plane, and when you have to pay for that, both ways, plus the pilot, it gets quite expensive.
“So, I started to think about flying a plane myself.
“I came back to Wolves, found Halfpenny Green Airport not far from where we were living, and after one lesson I absolutely loved it.

“I carried on doing the lessons, reading all the textbooks, studying, and eventually got my licence.
“It gave me something else to focus on, away from being in the pressurised position of being a goalkeeper in the Premier League.
“And then, after getting home I bought a Cessna, got my float rating because we have a lot of water around here, got my instrument rating and a commercial licence so now I can fly passengers.
“My final training got held up a bit with Covid but now I am working for Northwest Seaplanes, piloting planes which can hold up to six people.

He also won promotion to the Premier League with both Fulham and Reading.
