He made the admission in a hard-hitting interview with Gary Neville in which he also revealed he was sexually abused as a child.
The star, who spent part of last season on loan at Besiktas, also opened up on his difficult childhood during which he sold drugs at eight and was hung off a bridge at 11.
Today Dele was pictured working with Toffees staff in Evian, France as he takes his first steps to returning to the game.
With Dele watching on, Sean Dyche’s men began their pre-season  with a 2-1 win over Stade Nyonnais.

A leading sleep expert agrees with the Everton ace that the addiction to prescription drugs is ‘rife’ in English football.
James Wilson, who has worked with several sides in England, said: “You hear stories from players and staff that say: ‘You should go and work with this club because every first-team player is taking sleeping pills every night.
“They are not generally good for your sleep and they are not good for recovery so that is why they are not a good idea in football.
“The fact they are addictive is the cherry on the cake. The use is rife in football because the job itself contributes to poor sleep.
    Most read in Football
“They can be addictive but also the sleeping tablet doesn’t give you sleep, it knocks you out. Sleeping pills impact on REM sleep.
“Without that  REM sleep, the sleeping pill without him knowing will have contributed to him not being able to deal with the mental health issues that he was living with.”
Wilson does not blame club doctors for prescribing sleeping pills but has urged further training and education to ensure a severe change  in the attitude towards them.
He added: “We need to be educating players younger about sleep and we need to support players around their mental health.
“Often poor sleep can be caused by things going on in the players’ lives.
“We are not great at supporting men’s feelings. There needs to be more done there.

Dele also revealed he suffered abuse when he was a childCredit: Getty
“There needs to be better-trained staff. It is more about nutritionists, physios or sports therapists having a better understanding of sleep so they can advise better.
“There also needs to be a cultural change. If senior and successful players are taking them then younger players look up to them and it becomes a myth.
“The problem in football is we approach sleep like we approach training: ‘The harder I try the better I get. If I put X, Y, Z in, I’ll get X, Y, Z out’ but sleep is not like that.”
Former Oxford United psychotherapist Gary Bloom added: “Football clubs are only just waking up to the realisation that when people have off-field issues, these inevitably end up on the field.

“More clubs should be employing psychotherapists who are able to mix and  mingle freely with players and warn them of the consequences if they don’t clean up their personal problems.”

He returned to North London for pre-season training earlier this month, but on Friday he took to Instagram to a share video of another knock.
In the clip, Reguilon is seen with blood running down his leg from what appears to be a deep cut on his shin.
He then pans the camera to jokingly accuse team-mate Cristian Romero of inflicting the injury.
The caption with the clip reads: “Cuti is back @CutiRomero2.”

Spurs fans were far from surprised to find out who the culprit was.
One person tweeted: “He’s a bigger problem than we thought. Injuring his own teammates.”
Another added: “People will laugh at this, but its this trait that is currently stopping him from being a top class centre half.”
While a third wrote: “Average Romero moment.”

Steven Gerrard catapulted into top 5 best-paid managers in the WORLD by Al-Ettifaq deal but how do other bosses compare?

STEVEN GERRARD is earning an incredible £15.2MILLION-A-YEAR in Saudi Arabia. The former Liverpool midfielder has become one of the world’s highest-paid bosses in his new role at Al-Ettifaq.
Al-Ettifaq boss Steven Gerrard is one of the top-five best-paid managers in the worldCredit: AFP
Gerrard only makes less than Diego Simeone, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola
The $20million tax free amount means Gerrard is only banking slightly less than £16m-a-year Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
And only Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone (£30m) and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola (£20m) are also earning more than Gerrard.
It is this huge sum of money which finally persuaded the former Rangers and Aston Villa manager to make the controversial move to the Middle East.
Gerrard is now hoping to persuade former Anfield team-mate Jordan Henderson to join the club on a £700,000-a-week deal.

Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha is another player in the Liverpool legend’s sights and he is being offered about £16m a year.
Zaha has yet to be completely convinced over making the move to Saudi Arabia.
But those huge wages could still see him turn down a new deal at Palace and make the switch.
Al-Ettifaq is based in Dammam, Saudi Arabia’s fourth biggest city.

While the country has strict laws completely banning alcohol, Dammam is just a 70-minute drive over the border to Bahrain, which is one of the most liberal countries in the region.
So Gerrard will be able to attract British players who know that despite living in an incredibly conservative country, would be just 50 miles from Bahrain’s bars, off-licences and nightclubs.
A number of stars have moved to Saudi Arabia this summer after the country’s Public Investment Fund, who control an 80 per cent stake at Newcastle, bought Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal.

Why have Luton Town postponed their first Premier League home game?

LUTON TOWN claimed promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history last season. The Hatters overcame Coventry City on penalties in a dramatic play-off final at Wembley.

Luton have enjoyed a fairytale rise from the fifth tier of English football to the Premier League in just eight seasons.
The Hatters will go into the top flight with the same home they had in non-league, the iconic Kenilworth Road.
Why have Luton Town postponed their first Premier League game?
Luton Town have been forced to postpone their opening Premier League fixture with Burnley because Kenilworth Road won’t be ready in time for the opening day.
The statement from the club read: “Luton Town Football Club has reluctantly requested that its first home match of the 2023/24 season against Burnley is postponed from the scheduled date of Saturday 19th August.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
“Kenilworth Road is undergoing a programme of extensive ground improvements to be ready to host Premier League football, including the construction of a new stand to meet broadcast and media requirements.
“Whilst ongoing work is progressing extremely well and currently ahead of schedule, the Premier League understandably requires guarantees to its fixture schedule within sufficient time to advise supporters and broadcasters of any changes in advance.
“Due to the extent of the project, the Club cannot absolutely guarantee supporters that any future unforeseen issues would not cause any delay potentially impacting upon the scheduled opening game at home.
“Therefore, together with the Premier League and Burnley FC, all parties felt this was a sensible outcome which gives supporters of both teams sufficient time to plan for what will now be a free weekend and subsequently make arrangements for travel for the new date.
    Most read in Football
“The new date will be shared by both clubs to their supporters at the earliest available opportunity.”
When will Luton Town play their first Premier League game?
Luton will kick off their first-ever Premier League season away at Brighton on the opening day.
The following week the Hatters were due to play Burnley at Kenilworth Road, but that week will now be free for Rob Edwards’ side.
Luton’s first home match of the season is set to take place on Friday, September 1, against West Ham.
The Hatters will end the 2023/2024 season at home to Fulham on the final day.
When does the Premier League 2023/24 start?
The first match of the Premier League 2023/24 season is scheduled to get underway on Friday, August 11.
Champions Manchester City will travel to Championship winners Burnely in a tasty opening encounter.
And the mouthwatering match kicks off at 8pm BST. More

Premier League already forced to POSTPONE fixtures weeks before start of the new season including historic clash

LUTON fans will have to wait until September to see the Hatters play a Prem game at Kenilworth Road after League chiefs announced their scheduled top-flight home return match is off.The promoted Bedfordshire side were due to host Burnley on August 19.

But Luton had to undertake £10m-worth of rebuilding work at their tiny home to meet Prem requirements.
And while the club started the work almost immediately after securing promotion with the play-off win over Coventry, the timescale is too tight for League bosses to give a definitive green light.
In a statement, a League spokesperson said: “The Premier League match between Luton Town FC and Burnley FC, scheduled to take place on Saturday 19 August, will now be postponed.
“Luton Town FC were unable to offer the League and Burnley FC a guarantee that ongoing work to Kenilworth Road would not impact the scheduling of this match at late notice for supporters.”

The news will be a huge blow for Luton fans although it had been expected that the venue might be switched and the game played at Turf Moor instead
That will not now happen and Luton will begin their top flight season with away matches at Brighton and Chelsea either side of their blank weekend.
West Ham are then due to visit Kenilworth Road on Friday September 1.
League bosses also formally confirmed Manchester City’s scheduled home match against Brentford on December 23 is off as the Champions League winners will be playing the Fifa Club World Cup Final in Saudi Arabia.

“It’s the end of an era. I have a desire for something else. I will carefully study what is possible.
“However, I haven’t forgotten that I have a year left on my contract at Tottenham, and in football, it’s always hard to predict what will happen.
