Mystery as new pics of £100m plans that will make Premier League stadium look unrecognisable ‘removed’ from public view

NEW pictures of Crystal Palace’s stunning proposed Main Stand surfaced yesterday as the Eagles prepare to modernise Selhurst Park. The proposed new stand, which received planning permission in principal from Croydon Council last year, will see Selhurst’s capacity rise from 26,000 to 34,000.
New pictures of the proposed new Main Stand at Selhurst Park were revealed this week

It is set to house 13,500 fans, up from a current 5,200, while providing modern corporate facilities and greater disabled access.
The huge stand is set to modernise Palace’s historic home, with its predecessor having been built in 1924.
Fans will also be able to visit an improved retail store as part of the new build, as well as a club museum.
It will also enable Palace to bring their pitch up to Uefa standard.

Palace have partnered with KSS Group in designing the ambitious new Main Stand.
KSS Group have worked on a number of high-profile projects – including Tottenham and Liverpool’s state of the art training grounds, as well as the redevelopment of the Reds’ Main Stand and No.1 Court at Wimbledon.
This week, new images emerged on KSS’ website of the proposed new Selhurst Park Main Stand.
Fans marvelled at its exterior, which takes inspiration from the historic 1851 Crystal Palace Exhibition Hall.

Another image depicts how it will look from inside the stadium – with the three-tier stand featuring a corporate layer between the upper and lower decks.
Latest images of the spectacular new design were posted to social media by Palace fan HLTCO.
Within hours, however, the page on KSS’ site featuring information on the Selhurst Park Main Stand redevelopment mysteriously vanished.
Crystal Palace and KSS Group have been contacted for comment.
Following HLTCO’s post, Palace fans gushed at the exciting design.
One wrote: “That must be a nod to the old Crystal Palace building. Really like it.”
While a second tweeted: “Looks bloody lovely. I can’t wait to see it completed…”
A third tweeted: “That looks really impressive. Hope it happens.”
Palace first released plans for a new £100million Main Stand in 2018.
Council red tape and discussions with local residents have delayed the project, with Covid-19 also playing a factor.
In October 2022, Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “I would like to thank Croydon Council for their continued support for the stadium redevelopment, which will bring substantial investment into the borough, as well as breathing new life into Selhurst Park.
“We would have liked to have started the project sooner, but our plans were delayed by financial constraints caused by the Covid pandemic. In the last couple of years our focus has been on bringing our exciting Academy development to fruition, but our attention will now turn to the stadium project.

“It has long been our ambition to extend and modernise Selhurst Park, making it a home fit for the 21st century.
“We are looking forward to getting started on the project. There is a lot of preparatory work to be done in the coming months and we will update on a likely timetable in due course.”

Ex-Tottenham star praises ‘game-changer’ new rule that will ‘definitely bring more goals’ to Premier League

FORMER Tottenham star Alan Hutton has praised a game-changing rule that could bring more goals to the Premier League.Fifa have proposed a law that could massively help strikers.
The new offside rule proposed means all the attacker’s body has to be beyond the defender for the flag to go up
Alan Hutton thinks defenders will find it harderCredit: Getty
With the new rule in place, an attacker’s entire body would have to be beyond the last defender for it to be deemed offside.
Fifa are set to trial the change in pre-season clashes in Netherlands, Italy and Sweden.
Arsene Wenger is believed to have been key in pushing the testing of the idea forward from his role as Fifa’s Chief of Global Football Development.
It would see the numbers of goals chalked off decrease and hopefully lead to less frequent time-consuming VAR checks.

Several controversial goals last season were disallowed due to marginal offsides.
Manchester United’s controversial 2-1 derby win over Manchester City in January is one of the goals to have triggered a potential rule change due to the calls for the laws to be clearer.
Bruno Fernandes netted after Marcus Rashford appeared to be offside in the build-up.
Hutton, who played for Spurs and Aston Villa, believes it could help the game.

He told Football Insider: “It’s a game-changer, there will definitely be more goals within the game, no doubt about that.
“Obviously this favours the attacker, they get maybe that yard on a defender and as a defender, especially if you were a centre-half, it will be very difficult, as you’re going to have to hold such a high line.
“But I do get it, there’s such a grey area at times and when VAR was introduced with offside rules, we were talking about the width of the hair.
“It will be much easier to differentiate between onside and offside now, and a correct decision will be made.
“There will certainly be more goals and more excitement.”
The Premier League are currently against bringing in semi-automated offsides as seen at the World Cup. More

Arsenal fans beware, all but one of Prem’s £70m-plus transfers have been instant FLOPS.. but Declan Rice feels different

THERE is nothing more exciting for a football fan in the summer than a big-money signing. Then, almost without exception, there is nothing more maddening than watching a player recruited for a vast transfer fee either frustrate or flop at their new club.
Rice has joined Arsenal in a record-breaking £105m transferCredit: Getty
The midfielder is the most expensive English player in the Premier LeagueCredit: Reuters
Declan Rice will become the most expensive English player in the Premier League after the completion of his £105million switch from West Ham to Arsenal – and the 17th man to move to a Premier League club for £70m or more.
And those signings have rarely hit the ground running.
The previous 16 to make such major moves are Enzo Fernandez, Jack Grealish, Romelu Lukaku (twice), Paul Pogba, Mykhailo Mudryk, Antony, Darwin Nunez, Harry Maguire, Virgil van Dijk, Jadon Sancho, Nicolas Pepe, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Wesley Fofana, Kai Havertz and Casemiro.
Only Van Dijk and Casemiro proved an instant hit.

And while Grealish is now thriving at Manchester City after a tough first year – and the jury is still out on a few of the others – most have been severe disappointments.
Rice, however, feels different. Here is a 24-year-old, approaching the peak of his powers, with more than 200 Premier League appearances to his name, with the ability and personality that makes him look like a sure-fire success.
It is difficult to imagine Rice feeling overawed by his new surroundings at the Emirates as he prepares to make his Champions League debut at a club which is returning to European football’s top table after a five-year absence.
Rice has just lifted a European trophy as West Ham captain – a feat Arsenal haven’t achieved in almost 30 years.

Sun Sport runs the rule over the previous transfers to break the £70m mark
He has also been outstanding for England at a World Cup and a European Championship.
And for Arsenal, Rice is clearly an upgrade on Granit Xhaka, who has left for Bayer Leverkusen after a lengthy stint with the Gunners.
This is not to suggest that Rice is necessarily going to prove the difference between last season’s runners-up finish and title glory for Arsenal next term.
Many believe that last campaign, when so many other major clubs were struggling or in transition, represented Mikel Arteta’s best ever chance to lead Arsenal to the crown – especially as they topped the table for the vast majority of the season.
But Rice’s signing, along with those of Havertz and Jurrien Timber, represent a serious show of ambition from the Gunners, a determination to prove that last season’s title tilt was not a flash in the pan.
Manchester City had a dabble for Rice, just as they did for Jude Bellingham, and if Pep Guardiola had landed either England midfielder, it would have been more difficult than ever to imagine anyone finishing above them next term.
Many of those other expensive Premier League recruits have struggled in new surroundings – especially those moving from abroad – and others could not handle the weight of their price tags.
Neither is likely to apply to Rice.
Pogba joined Man Utd for £89m in 2016, but left as a free agent last summerCredit: PA
Off the field, he is one of the most likeable men in football. On the field, he is a fiercely competitive and self-confident leader – a more obvious captain than either Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard or England’s Harry Kane.
It is likely that Rice will wear the armband for both his new club and his country before long, although the issue of captaincy in football is usually over-rated.
Rice has a natural authority and he is unlikely to shrink at Arsenal, especially in such a young dressing-room.
You will struggle to find any Hammers fan who seriously begrudges Rice his move – especially after that Europa Conference League Final send-off against Fiorentina in Prague last month.
Rice has been honest enough to admit his Champions League ambitions, without ever kicking up a stink about wanting away, publicly or privately – and the Hammers, in turn, were realistic in accepting his departure, while still garnering a huge fee.
It helps, also, that West Ham fans tend to loathe Millwall, Tottenham and Chelsea, while Arsenal are only regarded with a mild dislike.
During his last couple of seasons at West Ham, Rice – who originally emerged as a centre-half – developed into a box-to-box midfielder, a role he says he relishes more than the more disciplined anchorman duties he carries out for England.
Arteta encourages a fluid style, so Rice is likely to have a decent amount of licence to roam.
While England boss Gareth Southgate will never openly express opinions in his players’ club futures, he will be pleased that Rice has joined Arsenal and Bellingham has arrived at Real Madrid, as well as Mason Mount heading for a career re-fresh at Manchester United and James Maddison switching to Spurs.
A year out from a European Championships which England have a genuine chance of winning, four of Southgate’s midfielders have made positive moves this summer.
    Read More on The Sun
Nothing is guaranteed, especially when it comes to Premier League players with vast price tags.
But little seems more certain than Rice tearing it up for Arsenal from the word go.
