Tottenham fans beg club to ‘give Ange just one thing’ as ex-Celtic boss Postecoglou endures nightmare debut first-half

ANGE POSTECOGLOU’S first match as Tottenham Hotspur boss has ended in defeat. And Spurs fans were all pointing out the same thing after the ex-Celtic manager lost 3-2 to West Ham.
Postecoglou’s first match ended in defeatCredit: AFP
Postecoglou, 57, left Parkhead at end of last season to take up the vacancy in North London.
He departed having won five of six domestic trophies available, leading the Hoops to a treble in his second and final campaign in charge.
Away from the trophy success, Postecoglou’s all-action style of football – often coined ‘Angeball’ – delighted Celtic fans over the past two years.
And it certainly wasn’t boring either as Spurs faced-off with London rivals West Ham in a pre-season encounter in Perth, Australia.

If his time at Celtic taught anyone anything, it was that goals were more or less a guarantee in games involving Postecoglou’s teams.
    And there were FIVE here.
West Ham raced into a 2-0 first-half lead with Danny Ings and Divin Mubama scoring, before Giovani Lo Celso and Destiny Ugodige struck twice in a three-minute spell to bring it level again.
The Hammers and boss David Moyes had the last laugh, however, with Gianluca Scamacca scoring a 78th minute winner.

And there were evidently a couple of things on most Spurs’ fans minds at the full time whistle.
Firstly, the first look at Postecoglou’s style seemed to impress.
Spurs had a huge 31 shots during the game, compared to West Ham’s five.
And that leads into the second thing Spurs fans were all talking about – improvement in defence.
One fan commented: “Result is irrelevant. That is the best I’ve seen Spurs perform in a long time.
“Give Ange one, just one, world class centre back and we will win a trophy 100 per-cent.”
Another added: “Very promising going forward. Defenders please!”
A third said: “Genuinely enjoyed that more than any competitive Spurs game for the last three years.”
Another added: “This was his first game. Imagine in three months time how well spurs will play”
A fifth optimistically added: “Two new centre backs and it will be perfect.”
Postecoglou will get another 90 minutes with his new players this coming weekend.

West Ham 3 Tottenham 2: Postecoglou suffers nightmare first-half on debut as Scamacca scores late winner in Oz

HARRY KANE played 45 minutes – but it was West Ham forgotten man Gianluca Scamacca who edged this thriller. Two quickfire goals in the first half from Danny Ings and whizkid Divin Mubama had put West Ham 2-0 up at half-time.

But Gio Lo Celso and Destiny Udogie, two of 11 Tottenham subs introduced at the break, clawed the game back for new Spurs chief Ange Postecoglou.
The topsy-turvy clash then swung back the other way as sub Scamacca, who rarely featured in the second half of last season, raced through to win the game.
Bayern Munich target Kane captained his side in the absence of club skipper Hugo Lloris, who has been left out of the tour as he tries to secure his own move away from Spurs.
The England striker looked a little rusty with a few heavy touches, which was understandable given he only returned to pre-season training on Wednesday.
    READ MORE ON TOTTENHAM
Yet he also would have had two assists had Yves Bissouma or Cristian Romero had their shooting boots on.
Postecoglou’s new-look Spurs played some intricate stuff at times and had far more of the ball than under defensive predecessors Antonio Conte, Nuno Espirito Santo and Jose Mourinho.
But Jarrod Bowen proved to be a thorn in their side – and particularly Sergio Reguilon’s – and it was the England international who set up Ings’ opener.
Bowen swung in a cross to the far post which Ings, brushing off a weak challenge from Reguilon, headed home from close range.

The lead was doubled five minutes later when Emerson Palmieri’s cross flew over Pedro Porro and England youth starlet Mubama headed into the far corner.
Spurs missed chances to halve the deficit when a clever Kane dummy played in Bissouma, who could not beat Lukasz Fabianski, and then Romero miscued a shot when teed up by the Three Lions icon.
Postecoglou swapped his entire team at the break and the switches made a difference.
First Richarlison, on for Kane, hit the crossbar and then Lo Celso grabbed one back, crashing home a volley after Davinson Sanchez had flicked on an Ivan Perisic cross.

Destiny Udogie headered an equaliser for SpursCredit: EPA
Spurs were back on level terms shortly afterwards when youngster Udogie flicked Perisic’s corner into the far corner via a clever header.
Postecoglou’s side were the one creating the vast majority of chances.
But they were undone as Scamacca converted goal No3 for West Ham, from just their fourth shot, as Pablo Fornals’ defence-splitting pass sent through the Italian, who fired past sub keeper Brandon Austin.
Spurs racked up more than 30 shots of their own, with Richarlison having more than his fair share but failing to convert them.
It will have given Daniel Levy much to ponder, given the Brazilian will likely be the team’s new starting centre-forward should the unthinkable happen and Kane leaves this summer.

How did the new boys get on? (2/2)
There were a number of new players on display for Spurs, here is how they got on…

Vicario – 5/10 – Wasn’t great in goal, but did prevent Jarrod Bowen from making it 3-0 in the first half. Couldn’t have done too much about the goals, but still looked somewhat shaky.
Manor Solomon – 6/10 – Similar to James Maddison, was not at his best but did cause a few problems for West Ham at the back. Came close to scoring a few times but for the brilliant Fabianski in goal.

How did the new boys get on? (1/2)
There were a number of new players on display for Spurs, here is how they got on…

James Maddison – 6/10 – Pretty standard performance from Madders on his debut. Had some bright moments and came close with a header, but wasn’t at his brilliant best.

Destiny Udogie – 8/10 – The full-back was really impressive on his Spurs debut. Coming from Udinese last season, most people didn’t know what to expect, but would have been pleasantly surprised when he popped up with an equaliser for Ange Postecoglu’s side.

    Man of the match
There was a number of great performances out there today.
Ivan Perisic made a great impact when he came on in the second half, as did Destiny Udogie.
But the star man today for us was West Ham’s Freddie Potts.
The youngster had a lot of pressure on his shoulders, being dubbed as Declan Rice’s replacement, and put in a sensational performance in midfield.
He was industrious in midfield, composed on the ball and did exactly what was asked of him.
    One to watch…

    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    90. There will be four minutes of added time here in Perth.
Four minutes to rescue Ange Postecoglu’s return to Australia.
    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    89. Chances for Spurs
They are pushing for an equaliser in this one, but you don’t want chances falling to the weak foot of Davinson Sanchez do you?
The Colombian gets his shot on target, but it is easily saved.
    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    87. A note on Freddie Potts
The young Brit has been absolutely sensational in midfield for West Ham, and if he is Declan Rice’s replacement then the Hammers might just be in fine hands.
    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    84. Perisic has been really, really dangerous since coming on at half-time.
He swings another cross into the box, but Fabianski is there again to read it and punch it away.
    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    80. Can Spurs get another equaliser?
Or will West Ham restore their two goal lead?
It looks like Spurs are going to throw the kitchen sink at this one now…
    Tottenham 2-3 West Ham
    78. Gianluca Scamacca gives West Ham the lead!
Pablo Fornals plays a lovely ball through the middle to the Italian striker, who is baring down on goal and slots it into the bottom right corner.
    Great finish.
    Tottenham 2-2 West Ham
    76. It is 23 shots for Spurs to just 3 for West Ham in this game.
A stat that really shows Tottenham’s dominance, but also their failure to capitalise on their chances so far.
They will need to be more clinical if they are going to find a winner here.
    Tottenham 2-2 West Ham
    74. Can Spurs go on and find a winner here?
They are really playing with confidence here, and Ivan Perisic has been crucial in creating chances for the Lilywhites.
This game has much more of a London derby feel to it now.
    Tottenham 2-2 West Ham
    70. Destiny Udogie equalises for Spurs!
They were known as second half FC last season, and it looks as though that may continue this year.
A corner is whipped in and the full back is on hand to flick the ball into the far corner.
    Great header.
    Tottenham 1-2 West Ham
    68. They can’t hold out! Lo Celso scores for Spurs!
A cross from Perisic causes trouble in the West Ham penalty area, the ball is headed down, and Lo Celso storms in to hammer home a volley.
Finished with style from the Argentine.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    67. Great save from Fabianski AGAIN
It is Alfie Devine who is denied this time, as a cross from the left hand side goes all the way through to the young Englishman.
He lashes a shot at the near post, but Fabianski is there again.
Surely West Ham can’t hold out much longer…
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    64. Non-stop pressure from Spurs here, surely it cannot be long until we see their first goal of pre-season.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    60. Yellow card for Emerson Royal
A late challenge from Emerson Royal on Emerson Palmeiri leads to the Brazilian getting the first booking of the game.
It caused a bit of commotion on the pitch too, with Angelo Ogbonna fuming at the Spurs defender.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    59. Richarlison hits the post!
That is the best chance of the game for Spurs so far, but Richarlison skims the outside of the post with a curling effort.
It was a great ball played through to him, and Tottenham will feel hard done by to not have opened their account yet.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    57. Mubama does brilliantly again for West Ham as he battles a few Spurs players in the midfield position.
That is the end of his cameo today, as he is replaced by Gianluca Scamacca.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    53. Richarlison looking bright
The Brazilian has looked impressive since coming on at half-time, following what was a lacklustre campaign by his standards last season.
This time he wins a free-kick as he is surrounded by West Ham players.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    51. Almost a sensational Spurs goal!
Spurs work the ball brilliantly on the left hand side with Sarr, and the ball eventually comes out to Emerson Royal on the edge of the box.
He side-foots the ball on the volley, but it sails over the bar.
    Bright signs for Spurs.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    48. There was a full change of Starting XI for Spurs at half-time, and this is how their lineup looks now:
Harry Kane’s evening is now over as Spurs have changed their whole team at half-time.
The new team is Brandon Austin; Emerson Royal, Davinson Sanchez, Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie; Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Pape Matar Sarr, Gio Lo Celso; Alfie Devine, Richarlison, Ivan Perisic.
    Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
    46. Huge early chance!
And it comes for Spurs. Perisic plays Richarlison in, and the Brazilian crosses into the middle but no luck this time either.
    Half-time. Tottenham 0-2 West Ham
Not quite how we expected the first-half to go, but it looks as though Spurs are experiencing those first game jitters as they find themselves 2-0 down to West Ham.
The opening goal was tucked away by Danny Ings, before Divin Mubama scored a header later in the half, which means the strikers in West Ham’s 4-4-2 shape have a goal each to their name.
Spurs will look to bounce back in the second half, they were causing some serious problems for West Ham at the end of the first, but couldn’t quite get the ball in the back of the net.
Something tells me Harry Kane may have something to say about that…

Tottenham fans say ‘season’s over’ just 23mins into FIRST friendly after conceding two ‘horrible’ goals against West Ham

TOTTENHAM’S first pre-season friendly under new manager Ange Postecoglou got off to a rough start after a 3-2 loss to West Ham and fans are already lashing out.Spurs took on the Hammers at Optus Stadium in Australia and found themselves conceding two goals within just five minutes after some “horrible” defending.

Danny Ings opened the scoring after just 18 minutes when he picked up a cross from Jarrod Bowen and beat Sergio Reguilon far too easily in the air to defeat new goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
David Moyes’ Europa Conference League winners doubled their lead in the 23rd minute with 18-year-old ace Divin Mubama’s header after Pedro Porro failed to head Emerson Palmieri’s cross away.
Tottenham fans absolutely loathed what they saw in the first half and some of them even went as far as to claim the “season’s over” already.
One fan tweeted: “New season. Same Tottenham.”

But Tottenham hit back within just three minutes in the second half with Giovani Lo Celso in the 68th minute and Destiny Udogie soon after.
However, West Ham sealed an impressive victory with Gianluca Scamacca on 78 minutes.
Postecoglou started Harry Kane in his line-up amid intense links with Bayern Munich.
The Australian tactician also handed starts to summer signings James Maddison, who had a bizarre shirt number, and Manor Solomon along with Vicario.
West Ham boss Moyes, on the other hand, opted for 19-year-old Freddie Potts to fill in for former captain Declan Rice in midfield after his £105million move to Arsenal.

Tottenham forced to apologise for West Ham friendly stream problem but despairing fans point out bigger issue

But the club has to apologise for issues with the stream
However, fans trying to watch on Spursplay were encountering problems leading to the club having to apologise.
The club tweeted a statement that red: “We are aware of the audio issues surrounding our live pre-season Broadcast against West Ham.
“Please reload your SPURSPLAY feed which should resolve these issues.”
However, fans were more concerned with the issues on the pitch as Tottenham fell 2-0 down.

Danny Ings opened the scoring before Divin Mubama doubled the Hammer’s lead with a towering header.
One Spurs fan tweeted: “Are you aware of the defensive issues surrounding the club the last few years?”
A second commented: “Can we reload our defending on set pieces?”

A fifth added: “Looks like the word defence has autocorrected to audio, admin.”
While another declared: “The audio is fine, it’s the defence that needs addressing!”
Meanwhile, other fans were baffled by Tottenham star James Maddison’s shirt number.
The midfielder donned the no.71 after Tottenham confirmed last week that numbers worn during pre-season may not be representative of their finalised squad numbers for the 2023-24 campaign.
And therefore the new signings have picked up available slots before making their decisions on their squad numbers.
On the pitch, the two sides played out a five-goal thriller as Danny Ings and Divin Mubama gave the Hammers a two goal lead at half time.
Spurs did level up after a quickfire double from Giovani Lo Celso and Destiny Udogie.
However, Gianluca Scamacca’s cool finish put West Ham back into the lead and they held on to win the match. More

Chelsea fans blast ‘worst squad in decades’ and ask ‘who are these people?’ as team pose for jet snap with stars missing

While others are on the transfer list and expected to leave this summer, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being lined up with a switch to Marseille.
That means the squad travelling to America is a little thread-bare with just six midfielders making the trip.
That group average just 7.6 starts in the Premier League each with Conor Gallagher and Enzo Fernandez the most senior amongst them.
Key midfielders such as Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount have all left the club this summer.

In total 13 first-team players have departed on permanent or loan transfers – leading some fans to fear there is a lack of quality in the squad.
Mauricio Pochettino has included several young players to make up the numbers on the pre-season trip, though there were some familiar faces on the plane like Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk.

Chelsea are planning to improve the squad and have made Brighton’s Moises Caicedo one of their main transfer targets.
Caicedo, 21, has agreed personal terms with the Blues but signing the Ecuadorian could still prove tricky with Brighton demanding £100million to let him leave.
