      ARSENAL and Manchester United battle in an upcoming pre-season friendly this Saturday – and here’s what you need to know. Premier League rivals are prepping away before their meet-up in New York this weekend.

      Mikel Arteta’s side smashed the MLS All-Stars 5-0 on Wednesday but this will be United’s first game of their US tour.
      Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber have made their unofficial debuts and are expected to face Andre Onana on Erik ten Hag’s side this weekend.
      With Harry Maguire stripped of his captaincy the leader of the Red Devils this weekend is still up in the air.
      Both teams finished in the top three last season with Arsenal finishing nine points ahead of the Red Devils.

      The tweet was paired with a video to promote the company, with Marcus Rashford, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw and Alejandro Garnacho all making a cameo.
      However, Man Utd fans were all hoping for a different announcement.
      Some wanted the club to announce the signing of goalkeeper Andre Onana, while others wished for an update on a potential takeover.
      One person tweeted: “Kindly announce Onana please and thanks!”

      CBS initially reported that an unnamed club in Saudi had approached Arsenal over signing Pepe but personal terms were not agreed.
      Now, they say the deal is off and have moved on to other targets.
      Pepe, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Cedric Soares were all left out of Arsenal’s pre-season tour squad.

      Arteta has spent over £200million this summer alone, bringing in Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz.

      FORMER Tottenham icon Ramon Vega earned millions of pounds away from the game.But his various attempts to get back into football have been repeatedly laughed off.

      Vega, 52, joined Spurs from Cagliari in 1997 and spent four years at White Hart Lane, spending the final six months on loan with Celtic.
      He managed 84 appearances for the club – scoring eight – but was hardly a cult hero in North London, leaving to join Watford in 2001 where he was equally unremarkable.
      But after retiring from the beautiful game in 2003, the 23-cap Switzerland man took the unconventional route into finance.
      Vega, who read the Economist on the Spurs team bus, became a founding member of Duet Asset Management, a London-based hedge fund which managed £1.9billion of assets.

      Six years later he founded Vega Swiss Asset Management, where he started work at 7am, finished around 10pm and still found time to play 5-a-side.
      However, the effects of Brexit saw the firm collapse – and it dissolved in May 2023.
      Vega also had the Matterhorn Capital Rosalp which saw him develop luxury hotels.
      He co-owned a jewellery shop in Romford and opened a football school in Marbella, too.

      The former defender, though, told SunSport he is desperately keen to make a return to the sport.
      In 2009, he made an ambitious attempt to buy Portsmouth – but it fell apart.
      The Fratton Park club said: “As Mr Vega was consistently unable to demonstrate an ability to secure financing for his proposal, the board, which includes the owner, decided to reject the proposal unless Mr Vega could satisfy them that the club’s future would not be compromised. This was not forthcoming.”
      And Vega even had grand plans to take over as Celtic’s CEO and even as the Fifa president – in charge at the very top of world football.
      But once again his initial efforts in 2015 and 2019 were thwarted.
      However, he has not given up hope on succeeding Gianni Infantino at the next election.
      Vega told World Soccer: “Fifa is a closed shop. I’m an outsider and I’m up against a cartel.
      “I’ve spent my own money travelling around the world speaking to associations and they want change.

      Andre Onana, 27, is set to sign for United after a deal worth up to £47.2MILLION was finally sorted with Inter Milan.
      The keeper has already flown in and will put pen to paper on a five-year deal, with the option of a sixth, after undergoing his medical.
      However, that is only one part of Erik ten Hag’s goalkeeping problem resolved.
      United stopper Dean Henderson spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest after a fall-out with the club.

      He is being heavily linked with a permanent move to the City Ground after recovering from the thigh surgery that ruled him out for the last few months of the campaign.
      Henderson recently claimed that he “p***ed off the Dutch manager” and believes “he is not in line for a comeback” as he revealed he did not want Ten Hag to see him training as he believed the boss would want to keep him.

      And backup goalie Tom Heaton is also wanted by both Luton Town and Everton.
      That has left Ten Hag searching for another keeper to join his squad with the above two expected to be given the green light to leave should they get adequate cover.

      Chelsea consider shock transfer for former player after losing Wesley Fofana to devastating injury

      Mauricio Pochettino has had hectic summer allowing several senior players to exit while focusing on strengthening the midfield.
      However, the ex-Spurs manager may be forced into the market for a centre-back and it is claimed by The Guardian that Guehi is a key interest.
      The 23-year-old will not come cheap though as Palace have put a hefty price tag of £60million on the player, according to reports.
      Chelsea’s youth star left for The Eagles two years ago for £18m and made a great impression at Selhurst Park.

      If Guehi makes a return to Stamford Bridge their back line could be entirely made up from the academy, with Colwill and Reece James.
