My dad Ian Wright spent ages winding me up about Arsenal’s title charge, but I’m not worried about them this season

SHAUN WRIGHT PHILLIPS warned his old man might have to wait a while to get the family bragging rights.Arsenal legend Ian Wright was loving it last season as the Gunners looked set to pip Manchester City to the Prem title.
Manchester City hero Shaun Wright-Phillips is not worried about Arsenal this coming seasonCredit: Getty
So when Mikel Arteta’s men blew it, SWP took in the trophy and paraded it in front of his dad on live television.
More than £200million have been spent on new signings by the North Londoners already this summer in a bid to put it right.
But Wright-Phillips said: “We’re not worried about Arsenal next season.
“There are so many other teams who have got stronger since last season.
    Read More on Football
“I think there will be more opportunities for other teams to try to claw back at City and Arsenal.
“City have dominated the Premier League for more than 10 years and the challenge is to keep on doing it because other teams have got stronger.
“You never know with Pep [Guardiola]. After playing with four centre-backs last season, he’s probably now got something else up his sleeve.”
Wright-Phillips reckons what City are doing now stands comparison with what Arsenal’s Invincibles achieved.
    Most read in Football
He added: “When [Manchester] United did the treble, football was completely different. Arsene Wenger changed the game at Arsenal.
“And I think City are now doing it their way.
“If you look at the points totals over the last seven to 10 years, I think the Invincibles would have won the title once with how many they got.
“That shows you how much standards have improved.

Wright-Phillips said he never had any doubts City would lift the title even when the Gunners were in command.
So he said he had to get a cheeky dig in after Arsenal’s defeat at Nottingham Forest confirmed their title.
He said: “He got a bit carried away earlier in the season, so I gave him a little bit back when City came good – like I said they would.”
“To be fair, my dad took it very gracefully.
“He admitted City deserved it, especially after the games with Arsenal at the Emirates and the Etihad.

The Premier League giants are still embroiled in a £5billion-plus takeover tussle.
Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani reportedly wants a total buy-out of the club.
But it’s thought his main rival, Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe, would accept a majority share.
And United’s US followers showed they are just as fed up with the saga as their English counterparts.

In the hour before Saturday’s pre-season clash with the Gunners, supporters gathered outside the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to cause a stir with their anti-Glazer cries.
They jumped around yelling: “We want Glazers out, say we want Glazers out…”
And United fans online seemed delighted with the backing stateside.

Another even suggested that such protests were the only way to force the Glazers to sell up.
He argued it would end up with United being fined and forced to play indoors robbing the family of income from the club.
It comes after one of the Glazer brothers, Avram, watched the Red Devils training in New Jersey.
But there are growing claims that the brothers are divided over the possible sale of the club.

And that would be regarded as a sign that Toney is also preparing for a transfer to a new club, perhaps even before his eight-month suspension for betting offences runs out in January.
Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United are among the clubs to have been linked with the 27-year-old, who has two years left on his current Bees’ deal.
Toney has enjoyed a successful relationship with agent Simon Kennedy and still appears on the website of Kennedy’s company, Pinnacle Sports and Entertainment Limited.
CAA Stellar represents hundreds of players, including big names like £100million Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate and in-demand Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

Stellar, led by Jonathan Barnett and David Manasseh, also oversaw Gareth Bale’s then world-record £85.3m move from Tottenham to Real Madrid in 2013.
    Kennedy was unavailable for comment.
Toney was charged with 232 breaches of FA regulations before he was hit with the eight-month ban.
The centre-forward was also diagnosed with a gambling addiction after admitting to the offences.

The Brentford star is now prevented from playing until January 16 and is unable to train with his club until September.
The penalty infuriated both Bees manager Thomas Frank and England boss Gareth Southgate.
Toney will be a major absence for the club this coming season after registering a staggering 21 goals and five assists in 35 appearances last term. More
