Newcastle boss Eddie Howe insists Allan Saint-Maximin’s £30million Saudi move is ‘above board’

EDDIE HOWE is adamant that Allan Saint-Maximin’s proposed £30million move to Saudi Arabia is “above board”.Several Premier League clubs are ready to raise concerns about the French winger’s move to Al-Ahli given the deal is between two teams under the same majority ownership – Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

But while they will raise questions over whether it is an inflated fee, Magpies manager Howe insists it represents his true worth.
He said: “I’m sure it will satisfy the Premier League.
“We will be governed by the same rules as every club and I am sure we will fit every criteria to ensure any deal is above board.
“It will be no different to any other club selling a player that they have. We have a value on his head and that value was met.”

Speaking earlier on Saturday, Prem chief Richard Masters said: “We have very strong and clear transaction rules which dictate that anything that is inter-company is expressed at fair market value.
“Very clear rules are in place – whether it be sponsorship or a player transfer. These are new rules that were brought in in 2021 and we believe they are doing their job.”
Saint-Maximin, 26, joined Newcastle from Nice for £20m in 2019 but has scored just 12 goals across four Prem seasons.
He will be replaced by Leicester’s Harvey Barnes, who is set to join for £38m.

While the club are yet to confirm the transfer, Howe said he is hopeful that Barnes will join up with Toon’s squad in the USA next week.

Chelsea outcast Callum Hudson-Odoi set for reunion with old Blues boss as he closes on transfer to Serie A giant

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano though, he looks set to link up with former manager Maurizio Sarri in Rome.
Romano said there is no truth in reports of a loan move with an obligation to buy as Chelsea are only willing to sell the winger permanently.
His £120,000-a-week contract is set to expire next summer.
Sarri managed Hudson Odoi during his stint as Chelsea manager between 2018 and 2019 – where the winger made 23 senior appearances for The Blues.

Much of these came in cup competitions, with the young winger particularly impressing in the Europa League at the time.
His performances sparked a clamour from Chelsea fans to give Hudson-Odoi Premier League minutes, to which Sarri responded: “I don’t know if Hudson-Odoi is able for the Premier League at 18, especially in a big team.
“If he’s good enough to play in a big team in the Premier League at 18 then he could be the best player in Europe in two years.”
Hudson-Odoi was subject to extensive interest from Bayern Munich after he first broke into the Chelsea first team.
    Most read in Football
He was subject to a £70million transfer bid from Bayern in 2020.
Hudson-Odoi ultimately remained at Chelsea however, penning a five-year-deal on £120k-a-week.
Since then however, he has struggled to nail down a place in the Chelsea first team.
The winger has struggled with injury throughout his Chelsea career and last year found himself out on loan at Bayer Leverkusen as he looked to kickstart his career.
He struggled again with injury in Germany and was limited to just 14 appearances at Leverkusen.
A move to Lazio to reunite with former boss Sarri could be just what the winger needs as he looks to reignite his faltering career. More

Ten Hag cast Telles out of his squad after taking over last year, with the left-back joining Sevilla on loan for the season.
The 30-year-old made 38 appearances for the Spanish club and helped them win the Europa League.
But he is now set for a very different challenge after finalising a transfer to Al-Nassr.
It is believed Telles will earn £7million a year at the Saudi outfit, with Al Nassr paying United £4m for his services.

Ten Hag has been trying to offload fringe players in an attempt to build transfer funds, and Telles was an obvious option given his last appearance came in the last game of the 2021-22 season.
He could be joined at Al-Nassr by another forgotten man at United, Eric Bailly, who is in England training on his own.
Bailly came to United from Villarreal for £30million but never really established himself in the side after a promising first season due to injuries.
The defender is not expected to command a fee.

He has not played for United since December 2021 and spent last season on loan in Marseille.
The Red Devils could also raise funds by selling both Dean Henderson and Anthony Elanga to Nottingham Forest.
Goalkeeper Henderson would cost £30million with winger Elanga costing £15million. More

Bizarrely, there was also a post-game penalty shoot-out despite United’s victory at the MetLife Stadium.
United also triumphed in that, with a 5-3 shootout victory.
Despite the fixture officially being a friendly – there was plenty of needle on and off the field.
United defender Lisandro Martinez caused a ruckus after wiping out Bukayo Saka with a reckless first half tackle.

The foul enraged Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard – with the two going at it as Saka was left on a heap on the floor.
Martinez received a yellow for his troubles, but it seems the bad temper on the pitch affected those in the crowd.
A video emerged shortly after the game of two fans fighting in the stands – although it is unclear which teams both men supported.
The video, which was shot from another stand showed a man in blue throwing a punch at a man wearing an Arsenal shirt.

The two were then separated by bystanders, with the man in blue being dragged away from the scene.
The 2-0 loss to Manchester United was Arsenal’s first defeat of pre-season after a 1-1 draw with Nurnberg and a 5-0 victory over an MLS All Star team managed by Wayne Rooney.
United meanwhile continued their winning ways having beaten Leeds and Lyon in previous outings.

Man Utd fans says the ‘butcher’s back’ as Lisandro Martinez wipes out Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and squares up to Odegaard

MANCHESTER UNITED fans were full of praise for Lisandro Martinez after he wiped out Arsenal star Bukayo Saka. The Red Devils beat Arsenal 2-0 in the Premier League Summer Series fixture in New Jersey, US, thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes.
Lisandro Martinez threw himself into a tackle on Bukayo Saka
He then clashed with Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard
And one of the biggest talking points from the match was Martinez’s performance as he looked to rough up the Gunners.
Bukayo Saka received some harsh treatment from the defender, who was known as the Butcher during his time at Ajax.
On one occasion Martinez flew into a tackle on the winger despite having little chance of winning the ball, for which he received a yellow card.
The challenge sparked an angry reaction from Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, who confronted Martinez.

The Argentine was more than happy to engage in a face-off with the midfielder and fans loved his attitude.
One wrote: “He’s back! The Butcher is ready for blood!”
Another added: “They call Martinez the butcher for a reason!”

And another commented: “Might just be the best defender in the Premier League.”
Martinez upheld his reputation for aggressive, no-nonsense defending in his debut season at United last term.
He sparked fury in a match against Leeds in February after scraping his studs down Patrick Bamford’s face, yet avoided a red card.
And it is unlikely Martinez will change his style after admitting he puts everything into each tackle he makes.
Asked about his Butcher nickname, the defender responded: “I don’t even remember who gave me the nickname at Ajax or why. It must be because of the aggressive way I play my game.
“The truth is that I do go to each challenge like it is going to be my last one, so in one way it does suit me.
“Having said that, I’ve greatly improved the way I read the game and make decisions.” More

He was spotted wearing blacked-out boots during Tottenham’s opening training session in front of 6,000 fans at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday.
That was ahead of Sunday’s friendly clash with Leicester at the same ground as part of Spurs’ Asia-Pacific pre-season tour.
Kane, who turns 30 on Friday, is being courted by Bayern Munich.
The German giants have had bids of around £60million and £70m turned down already, with suggestions they will come in with a fresh offer when Spurs return home.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
Bayern are confident Kane wants to join them, with their director Uli Hoeness publicly confirming that belief.
SunSport understands the Three Lions striker is open to a move to Bavaria.
But he has also not ruled out either staying and running down his Spurs contract to leave on a free transfer next summer, or even signing a new deal.
Harry Kane’s openness to a move comes amid reports that his wife, Kate, was house hunting in Bavaria this weekend.

New Spurs’ boss Ange Postecoglou has had the last ten days to work with Kane.
Historically the ex-Celtic boss has favoured a centre-forward who naturally favours relentless pressing than Kane does.
Yet when asked if the club’s greatest goalscorer would need to adapt to his methods, Postecoglou replied: “No not really. I’ve had all sorts of strikers.
“I think what I look for in those type of positions is someone being laser-focused on scoring goals and part of that is if you work hard on keeping the ball close to the opposition goal then that’s going to help you.
“All the strikers I’ve had have bought into that because they know they’re going to get more opportunities.
“There are very little gaps in Harry’s game. His ability on and off the ball are more than enough for us.”
Kane’s England colleague James Maddison completed a £40million switch to Spurs in June and is hopeful the striker will stay.
Maddison, 26, added: “I’m not going to go into details on Harry’s situation. People speak about that enough and it’s out of my hands, really.
“But from my point of view I would love to be able to play with him, he’s a world-class centre-forward, the best No9 in the world, a brilliant role model and an uber professional guy. “Whatever happens, happens.” More

PSG are determined to sell Mbappe this summer – and have left him out of their squad for their pre-season tour of Japan.
News broke yesterday that Chelsea plus one unnamed Premier League club were set to enter the race to sign the forward, who has been heavily linked with Real Madrid.
And according to Marca, Spurs and Manchester United are the other unnamed clubs willing to throw their hat in the ring for Mbappe’s signature.

While a fourth responded to tweets linking Spurs with Mbappe with a string of laughing emojis.
Mbappe has entered the final year of his PSG contract and made it clear with the Parisian club that he has no intention of signing a new deal.
PSG are unwilling to lose the forward for free and believe that doing so would force an exodus of stars as they would have to balance the books in Mbappe’s absence.
The club want a swift sale and hope for a transfer to be sorted by July 31.
Mbappe is reportedly willing to sit out the entirety of next season in order to make a move to Real Madrid happen next summer.
It is looking increasingly likely that Spurs will be in the market for a striker this summer, with Harry Kane’s rumoured move to Bayern gathering pace.
Kane’s wife, Kate, was reportedly in Munich this weekend looking at houses amid rumours that Kane had agreed personal terms with Bayern ahead of a move. More
